    Celery Is A No-No, But ......

I don't have problems with either. Heck, yogurt can some times cause problems. It is all an individual thing. Also, both can be pealed, that would help a lot.

    Is there a problem here?

Ok here goes.. I had been in denial about how much I was vomiting(my roommate reminded me)I was throwing up meds and Water at times In the last two weeks I fainted twice. I landed in ER and was diagnosed with vasovagal syncope and my pcp said I was extremely dehydrated. After some introspectal thinking, I have come to the realization that I am totally turned off by food unless it is sweet and junky. I usually do Greek yogurts with babybel and granola for lunch and dinner and a Protein shake for Breakfast I am getting really tired of what I eat.. Any suggestions for a low maintenance preferably no cooking meal plan? I do see a therapist and IM working with her. I just find yogurts so vile right now and will put anything else in my mouth Went to surgeon today for unfill. Injured my knee and foot unable to exercise :-( Thanks for letting me put this out there... -Mary

I'm 10 Days Post Op And Not Sure About Fullness

Thank u so much!!! I was getting worried because so many others here are having a hard time getting in fluids. And I certainly don't want to stretch my sleeve esp this early on. I was hoping it was just fluids passing through easily. I could never do that with thinned yogurt! Thanks again (-:
  4. Here are some suggestions of foods you see on "healthy food lists": Chobani Fruited Greek Yogurt for breakfast (with added protein powder), Occational Whey Protein shake made with Fat Free Milk, Fruit or string cheese for afternoon snack, Lean Cuisine for lunch, Grillled/Baked Chicken breast, Turkey Chili, Hummus and carrots, Egg Whites/egg beaters, Fish, Apples, oranges. Just incase you hit writers block!

    Cooking help!

bariatric foodie has some easy recipe. I highly recommend ricotta bake (google "eggface ricotta bake") - super easy and tasty. Sometimes I add some sauteed spinach or a spoon of pesto. If you like shrimp, it is super easy and tasty. Defrost a few, add a bit of oil or butter to a pan over medium heat, and saute for a few minutes until they're pink. You can add some spices. I like cajun seasoning (if you can deal with heat), or italian seasoning. Added: this is super easy, don't even need to defrost the fish: https://www.bariatricfoodie.com/one-pan-cooking-tilapia-fire-roasted-tomato-sauce/ But, one fish fillet will serve me three times, and I don't eat thawed fish more than two days after it thaws, so I often have to toss some fish. Also really like egg salad - just 2 hard boiled eggs, masked with either a bit of ripe avocado or 1 TBL mayo and 1 TBL greek yogurt.
  6. So i am on week 4 of my whole lap band experience (2 weeks liquid pre-op diet, 1-week post op liquid, 1-week soft/mushies). I have lost almost 40lbs since i started and it feels great. Weight loss has slowed a little lately but i'm not too worried. What i am worried about is the amount of food i am allowed to consume while still unrestricted. When i was on liquids (post-op) i was allowed 4-6oz every 2 hours or more. Suprisingly i did just fine on that, i mean i still got hungry at times but then i just poured myself 6 oz of strained cream of chicken and ate it over the course of 20-30 minutes as directed by my post op instructions and i was good for a few hours. This week i am allowed to start having soft foods (yogurt, pudding, mashed potatoes, refried Beans, ricotta cheese, etc..) but i am only allowed 1/4-1/2 a cup of food according to my sheet. Well i have been sticking to it but 30- 40 minutes later i am hungry and my stomach is growling. Now i have been good. I never cheated once on liquids which was amazing and i pride myself on that. I feel it shows that i am ready to change my life. My problem though is that i am still hungry and i have another 90 minutes to go before i can eat. So my question to those of you that are doing this or have done it is how much do you eat? I was thinking about eating more to feel more satisfied, but last thing i want to do is to start restretching my stomach. I have been really good and i am seeing my surgeon Tuesday so i was going to ask him the same question anyways but i figured what the Hell i'll ask here too. I was even thinking about going back to my liquid diet protien shakes since they kept me fuller longer. I'm very confused and it gets a little annoying some times trying to stick to the post-op instructions. Any input is greatly appreceated.

    help i'm starving

I stuck to liquids for the first week. However, I did include some yogurt and applesauce into my diet in that phase. Week 2 I ate pretty much whatever I felt like, I just put it in my food processor. Didn't look great, but after weeks of soup and broth it was a dream come true. I'm now starting on week 4, have never puked or felt ill and I eat everything I used to except I have not had ground beef or pork. I did have a piece of round steak made in the crock pot with a sauce and that went very well. I personallt think you could have cottage cheese, yogurt, pudding, mashed potatoes, applesauce, ice cream, whatever. Oh sure, they say not to eat ice cream, but lets face it, If you're living on 400 calories a day via soup, a little ice cream won't kill you and you'll feel much better. Just my opinions and it worked for me. I am still scared to try salad and brocolli or raw veggies, I think I'll wait till week 7 for those. Good luck and you'll get through it!

    Help

I think you need a Protein burst. Do you have Greek yogurt? I mix the plain with sugar-free blueberry preserves and some Splenda. Gets me protein and a little fruit sugar at the same time. Or you could do the same with cottage cheese. I know. Not the same as a snickers bar, but it is long-lasting energy, not that quick high with a dramatic thud in about an hour. Plus for me sugar is a trigger food. I don't want just one sugar thing -- I suddenly find myself wanting all sugar things. Hang in there and Good luck on your journey. It's going to be amazing!

    1,000 calories a day & not losing

I'm sorry you are having a tough time. But going back to old habits is really just that...a habit. Habits can be broken. You honestly have to ask yourself how much you want this. If you want it more than anything then you will have to get really strict. By this, I mean you need to be tracking everything. Eat your Protein first for real. Eat the 4-5 bites of dense protein (beef, chicken, etc) and then whatever room is left..and it won't be much, eat a couple of bites of veggies. By this time you should be full. This is for your two to three main meals. In between meals if you feel like you need to have a snack then maybe have a yogurt, steam a pack of Edamame, or peel a cutie (halo) and eat it slow. But seriously track everything! Losing weight is 90 percent what you are eating so it's got to be a problem there. Don't guess, track it. You can do this if you really really want to. In fact, nothing is stopping you. I say go for it! You still have a sleeve. Good luck!

    Surgey date!!

I know what you mean. I work at the hospital where I'm being banded on August 20. I have seen great results from the folks that had 3 weeks of liquid diet pre-op. One gent lost 33 lbs in that time. Had lunch with him and his wife (he was banded a month ago, she was banded last week). She had yogurt. He had tuna salad and some chopped veggies. Both seem to be doing quite well. He took a week off work. She is taking 2 weeks. She did not do the liquid pre-diet, but I can see the 8 lb difference in her already. Seriously.
  11. I've had my band for a year and the honeymoon is over. I do love my band, but I'm so tired of eating the 'easy' foods. I used to have a pretty well-balanced diet pre-band, but not any more. My nutritionist just called yesterday to say I am severely deficient in vitamin D and I am anemic. I totally know why. I don't eat well anymore. I eat what's easy to eat - carbs. I know I'm not getting the right nutrition because my habits have changed. I used to eat yogurt (calcium and D) with my lunch. Now I can barely get my protein down for lunch. I used to eat more red meat (iron). Now I barely do because it's such a struggle to get down. My weight loss has stalled as a result of all this. I know I need to jump back on the bandwagon but it's so much easier to not fight with my band. Has anyone had the same experience? Any suggestions for more Vit. D/iron-filled food? Help!

    1,000 calories a day & not losing

I avoid Pasta all together. Occasionally I'll have a slice of bread or 1/2c rice, and this is maybe once a week. Other than that, the carbs come from fruits and veggies, yogurt (Carbmaster yogurt) fat free cottage cheese etc. My work outs include both cardio and strength.
  13. I have been in the dreaded "3 week stall" for about a week now, which corresponds to the time I started introducing the standard "real" foods (cottage cheese, tuna, yogurt, etc.). Are the two related? Just curious about others' experience.
  14. Dense proteins are protein that is heavier and will stay in your sleeve longer. Such as chicken or fish as opposed to say yogurt.

    So Much Conflicting info

He definitely said I need to up my exercise. I dont think he meant neglect protein, but just not to worry about restricting carbs. For instance I love oatmeal and chobani greek yogurts but i dont eat those cuz of the carbs...i am gonna try those for the next week and see what happens...lol
  16. feedyoureye

    So Much Conflicting info

Eating carbs and Protein at the same time reduces the surge of the carbs. Yogurt should be no problem. People who are sensitive sometimes even eat fruit with protein, nuts, cheese or something like that to avoid a spike.

9 days post op, feel great :)

Well for the first week after the surgery I could have sugar free jello, sugar free Popsicles, broth like bouillon, crystal light in water, Gatorade powerade. Right now I'm in phase 2, so I can have skim milk, nonfat yogurt, low sodium cream soup that's been strained, cottage cheese mashed up. I attached a picture of the stuff I can have now.

    Can't Do The Puree!

greek yogurt, unjury chicken Soup Protein, sf jello/popsicles, COTTAGE cheese, milk, peanutbutter, baby food, i even blended some meatballs with mashed potatoes veggies and some chicken soup protein at one point. you have to get it in otherwise you'll lag in healing and feel worse for longer (trust me, i was in the saaaaame boat and only JUST started to regulate and getting in what i needed) goooood luuuck!!!
  19. I'm still on a pretty heavy Protein kick. I "front load" a lot of my protein early in the day with Greek yogurt (and a scoop of high quality protein) and either a Protein shake or Quest Protein Bar. I haven't found a ready made protein shake I can tolerate, so I mix my own with unsweetened almond milk. The one food group I'm enjoying more of is fresh fruit, but it has to be cold and I keep the portion size very reasonable.

    Healthy nachos!

Hey! So I came up with this with the help of my mom. I'm sure there are probably other people who thought of it before, but I wanted to share just in case there wasn't! I took lean ground angus beef (I looked for bison - which would be better because it has less fat, but couldn't find any) and put it on top of multigrain tostitos and cheese on top of that, then I broiled it for a minute in my toaster oven and dipped those chips into fat free Greek yogurt in place of sour cream (it tastes exactly the same!!!) It's a great way to get Greek yogurt in which is high Protein and absolutely delicious alternative to real nachos. I had to make it tonight because I was craving nachos like no tomorrow! I attached a picture! I hope others try it and love it as much as I do! Oh! And I know it looks like a lot in the picture - don't worry I didn't eat it all! I could only fit in 3-4 chips and the rest I'm saving for lunch even then I probably won't finish! And I even used a small side plate! :S

    advice please!

tanya i usually have one scrambled egg every morning borrrrrrring - i need to find something else easy to get some variety lunch is usually my FAGE yogurt with fresh blueberries and granola ummmmm ummmm good i frequently will have a baby bel cheese mid day lunch - tuna, or egg salad , cottage cheese w/pineapple - or my favorite standby of yogurt i have a cannister set - with coffee, then sugar, and cream (for hubby) and then sweet 'n low (put one in my yogurt) and last cannister is kept full with granola dinner - chicken i.e. i will have about 4 oz then veggies snack later like i said earlier, its ok/good to remind yourself you "might" gain weight but don't dwell on it!!! those thoughts are a reminder for me that i need to be careful with my choices and quantities for the rest of my healthier, happier, longer life u can do it too - i have confidence in you keep up the good work kathy congrats

    SLIDER FOODS

Protein shakes and yogurt are slider foods but the protein in them is high. Soup is definitely a slider as it doesn't take much effort on your part to eat it. We need the protein but eating soup also lets you eat and drink at the same time. At this point I would say have more filling Proteins then soup.

    New help me????

@@beckyparks what does your pre-op diet consist of? It's normal to feel a little weak and light headed as your body is going through a bit of a detox at this time. Though I am banded I found that what helped me was to be doing something every hour. If I wasn't having a shake I was drinking Water, on my pre-op I was allowed to have yogurt and fat free sugar free pudding. You have to make this at home with fat free milk and sugar free pudding mix but it gives you something to occupy yourself while making and it's good. I would wake up and start with usual cup of coffee, but had to switch to decaf on pre-op. Then I would move to my first shake of the day around 8 then I would have some water at 9 and then some yogurt at 10 more water at 11, or decaf tea or coffee if I need a switch up from the water. Even a sugar free ice pop now and then breaks it up and gives you the "crunch" factor. if you can have Soup I would make that my lunch and dinner "option" on that hour and then shake shake shake and water water water. I made it through my 2 weeks. It was the full of Clear liquids that made me a bit bonkers but I made it through. Just keep yourself drinking and eating something and your tummy won't know your hungry cause you will always have something in there. Gum is another awesome way to chew without eating!! You got this!
