I am now on day 7 of the liquid diet and the lbs. are definitely coming off. I am losing about a lb. a day right now. It is exciting to see such rapid results from this crazy diet. My body seems to be adjusting to the fact that I can only eat these 5 different items (3 Specific protein drinks, 1 light yogurt, 4c. romaine/2Tbsp. light dressing, 2 1/2 c. SF Jellos, and 2 c. unsalted broth). I am doing the 3 shakes as meals and randomly doing the rest throughout the day to spice things up. It is getting better, but next Tuesday still feels like it is a long way away right now!

Yes, as long as you puree it. You will get lots of protein with both the tuna and the egg.. Try adding a little plain greek yogurt instead of mayo and you will get even more protein! I usually just use the mayo, but I thought I'd pass that along because I've heard of other ppl doing it. :-)

Anyone having surgery tomorrow? 8/6/09
kbecker replied to pnksteph's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi everyone! I was banded on 08/06/09 and released from the hospital the next day. I am not very hungry and everything seems to go right through me. I have been drinking egg flower soup (strained), I also had a yogurt. My pain is very tolerable but I am finding that I need help getting up from the recliner which is where I can sleep comfortably. I usually sleep on my tummy so this is a challenge. I am not sure if I really need the help or if I am scared to hurt. I will be braver tomorrow. -
I ate to soon and I'm petrified. PLEASE Help!
TrailAngel posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Everyone, Whomever opens this link and has any words of encouragement I would greatly appreciate all you could say. I was bande 11/22/10, 12 days ago. It took me a long time to recover because I do not respond well to anethisia. Once I did, about 4-5 days ago I started not doing so well with the post-op diet. As always I start off great. I have a protien shake for Breakfast and greek yogurt or Soup for lunch. But there has been about 4 days where I ate something a bit more then a "mushy". I did'nt understand why the doc said not to eat regular food. I felt NO restirction and food past through me with no problems. Then I read an article saying that harder foods make you not be able to heal properly inside and cause your band not to solidify with the stiches correctly and stuff and makes it more likely to slip in the future. DId I screw myself up already only 12 dayas out. I am devistated about telling the doctor. I see him tomorrow, day 13. I have lost about 4 pounds since surgery but the few meals I ate in the evening have me petrified. How do I know if I caused long term damage to my band? For those who have had problems, and had band surgerically adjusted or port adjusted, did yo9u have to pay surgery fees all over again? Please, any words of wisdom would help!!!!! Sandi -
Eating wise, no special strategy or secrets. I just ate/eat less consistently, day in day out, than I did before banding. I eat from all food groups and I have the occasional treat. I dont count Protein, calories, fat, carbs. Today is a typical day - a handful of raw macadamias for Breakfast, I have a yogurt for morning tea, about a cup of vegie and lentil Soup for lunch, when I get home from work is usually when I want something sweet, my son made some great choc chip Cookies the other night, I'll probably have one with a cuppa. dinner tonight is going to be tacos made with home made cilli and salad ingredients. I dont do any products like shakes and bars, I consider them processed foods and not the healthiest choices. I cook from scratch and try to include plenty of fresh produce, I buy organic most of the time. The one thing I think really made a difference to me was running - an hour most days of the week. I wont ever give that up.

Hard to eat soft foods..please advise!
jfhartrph posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I am 3weeks post op and moved to the puréed/soft food stage on Friday. I first tried small curd cottage cheese, and it did pretty well. Today, I tried chicken salad that I made yesterday. I mixed the chicken in the mini-chopper....sooooo finely shredded/chopped....and made it super soft with mayo. Both times I tried it, it was painful moving through my chest. I chewed it so much it that it practically dissolved in my mouth. Now, I just want to go back to yogurt and those full liquids that didn't give me so much discomfort. Any ideas?? How long does this last? What should I do? -
I have been steady losing 2lbs a day for over a week. Ever since the day I left the hospital 12/18/2012 have lost a total of 38lbs now today I've gained 2 almost 3 lbs and I only eat 3 oz of yogurt every night nothing else but water goes into my body so what gives?????

4th fill - too tight?
Mangofish replied to Dawnana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My last fill - I was so close to going back b/c even drinking felt uncomfortable and I had slight chest pain around the band area. I toughed it out and it disappeared after 3 days or so. I have lost about 15 pounds since late June which is a lot for me. It took a couple of days and drinking hot liquids seems to help but the tightening did loosen a bit. Prior to surgery I could eat 5 slices of pizza. After surgery before 1st fill - 4 slices. After 3rd fill maybe 2 slices. Now after the 5th fill I can barely eat the toppings. I thought I was too tight but my doctor said that's what its suppose to feel like. Generally it will stay tight when you wake up so I have a Protein shake or a yogurt in the morning b/c that is all I can tolerate. If you are throwing up this is a different matter entirely and terrible for your band. -
2 cc in band and too tight?
k-statearmywife posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been banded for 6 months, had 4 fills for a total of 2ccs. Since my 4th fill (over 4 weeks) ago I haven't been able to eat ANYTHING without it getting stuck...we're talking applesauce, yogurt, pudding, EVEN DRINKS!. It's so frustrating and I have given it time to settle itself in...it's been over 4 weeks now. Every time I eat something mushy have to to go the bathroom and spit out the slime (gross) and most of the time PB. I get full very fast but get hungry within 2-3 hours afterwards.... My band has NOT slipped by the way. Anyone else felt too tight with a small amount of saline? -
What if I can't 'do' puree?
LipstickLady replied to Smile!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ate cream soups, refried Beans, chicken/tuna/ham/seafood salad, yogurt, mashed taters, grated cheese, guacamole, hummus, soft scrambled eggs, applesauce... You can find things, this phase is short and you won't want much anyways, so... -
Tell me about unflavored protein powder?
rgr26 replied to Bndtoslv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you can add the unflavored powder to pretty much anything. I've added it to my scrambled eggs before I cook them, yogurt, cottage cheese, jello (add it to it when it's still in liquid form). -

I love Premier Protein Bars. I get mine at BJ's. 18 bars for about $17. It comes in a variety pack with 3 flavors: Peanut Butter crunch, chocolate peanut butter and yogurt peanut crunch. They have a lot of other flavors but these are the 3 that come in the variety pack. You can also find them at Walmart and they sell them by the bar for about $2/bar. I find them to be very tasty and honestly have them quite a bit for Breakfast throughout my weight loss. I'll list the basic info so you have an idea if you want to try them. I know they're a bit high in carbs and at 1st I was very leery about that. But I've lost 150lbs so they couldn't have 'hurt' my weight loss that bad. Calories: 290-300 depending on flavor Protein: 30g Sugar: 9g Fat: 10g Cabs: 24g -
I've had lowfat cream cheese, about a tablespoon, and other low fat dairy products with no problem. I had gastric bypass. You could also substitute non fat plain Greek yogurt. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Its definitely a mental thing for me I was sleeved on 10/12/16 and I was so hurt when I came home I thought the surgery would take away my desire for food completely however it actually made me realize I had a real problem with food. I never noticed how much I consumed since I struggled with weight my whole life. My parents always made us finish our plates before we got up. And I do the same to my children what they didnt eat I would cuz I couldn't stand the thought if wasting food or throwing it away... After surgery I was chewing up food and spitting it out. Food was everywhere, TV commercials, fliers, fast food restaurants on every corner or billboard I just couldn't focus... Long story short preparation works keep a lunch box with the right things such as yogurt, string cheese, boiled eggs, turkey, Peanut Butter, Jerky, slim jims, ect whatever is healthy that u can tolerate set alarms on your phone to eat nd drink every couple of hours so u dont get hungry nd find something else to focus on reading or exercise work for Me. When I'm going to the gym regularly I dont won't to mess up all my hard work by eating poorly. It does get better but we all have to do our Part our surgery's are not cure alls but helping tools. MILK is doing my bidy bad nit good
Kindle replied to robertweisman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is not unusual to become intolerant to certain foods (including lactose) after VSG. My surgeon explained that our new sleeves are not quite functioning normally and food molecules end up passing into our intestines differently than before. Not quite as "digested" as with a normal stomach. Our intestines may react negatively to these "new" molecules. The intolerance may be temporary or permanent. As for me, plain Water, artificial sweeteners and milk all caused stomach pain right after surgery. I simply drank lactaid milk, coconut milk, almond milk, decaf herbal teas, diluted fruit juice and diluted regular (not low cal) sports drinks. The odd thing was I could eat Greek yogurt, cheese and cottage cheese, just not milk. After about 4 months, all of these intolerances went away, and I could finally drink milk and plain water with no problems. -
The past wk or so, I've been increasing my Water and Protein intake, trying to lose the last 10 lbs. I'm not fond of dieting so I thought Id keep that for a last resort. Why do carbs fill me for longer than protein? I thought it was sposed to be the opposite? Has a 5.3 oz container of Fage Greek yogurt for bfast at 8 am this morning. By 10, I coulda eaten my arm. I had 2oz of tuna mixd with a little mayo and sweet pickles. Again, starving by noon. Had a green salad with a cpl ozs of chicken about 1. Again, starving. Oh, and forgot the 4oz of Protein shake with an extra scoop of unfl Protein powder I had about an hr ago. I'm already up to 60gms but literally am starving. Everything sounds good right now Planning on grilling steak for dinner. That and another salad. That will put me at about 80gms before 6pm. I know Ill be hungry again 2 hrs later. While I can increae my protein and lower my carbs, why am I not normal in that protein fills most people up better than carbs? Gawd I hate dieting counting, or wtaching what I eat. Here I sit 1 hr after my protein shake (which in itself had about 23gms + what's in the milk) ready to eat anything that walks by. What's the deal? Does protein actually keep u full longer than 2 hrs? Or do I hafta add fat to it 4 it to work?

I just downed a medium sized bowl of fruit salad in one sitting, how is this possible?!
FluffyChix replied to Brotherman Bill's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First and foremost it is all about the volume. At about 4 weeks here is your VOLUME rec. Liquids = 4oz at one meal (4 oz of anything liquid) Soft Foods = 1/8-1/4c (that means 1-2oz by WEIGHT) maximum per meal. That means at THIS time? It's ALL about the protein. Until the time when you get ALL your protein in from food. Protein first. Then if room, a bite or two of well cooked, soft veggie at 4 weeks. The ONLY time you might add a little frozen or canned fruit (ie fruit without peel and low or no added sugar) would be with a tiny bit of yogurt. But emphasis is on a bite or two--not a whole bowl. For one it's WAY too much sugar/fructose at 1 meal and for two, you MUST get your protein in. At 4 weeks, you MUST get your protein in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Non-negotiable. -

starladustangel replied to Brotherman Bill's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Calories are not the only thing to watch out for. Fruit is high in sugar and carb. The nutrition binder I got from my nutritionist says the most fruit at the soft food stage is a 1/4 c of unsweetened apple sauce or a 1/4 of a a mashed banana. That's total per day and they recommend mixing it with plain unsweetened yogurt or cottage cheese for the protein. I'm extremely carb sensitive and can only tolerate berries pre op so not sure I will eat any fruit. -
I'm 8 weeks post op and am on stage 4 (mechanical soft). I need ideas for Snacks in between meals. No nuts. I have babybel and yogurt. I'm looking for something with good Protein that I can throw in my lunch bag and not have any prep to eat it (I'm a teacher so want something quick and easy I can eat in 5 mins during passing period.) I'd love to hear what you suggest! Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

first day transition from liquid to mushies
wannalise replied to cwalker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to go at it pretty slow. I am almost 6 weeks out and still am pretty careful. I do 2 protein shakes a day and then 3 soft meals, the greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and I did really well with scrambled eggs mixed with cottage cheese because they are super soft. It is crazy how different food goes down then liquids. Please just listen to your body and if it isn't ready for something hang on. You will get there. Also, my sleeve is different on different days. Some days things go down easily and some days my body is just more into liquids. Good luck and take it slow! -
Breakfast .... If I'm in a hurry, a Protein shake. Otherwise, Greek yogurt, low fat cottage cheese (which I happen to love), scrambled eggs, low fat cheese lunch .... low fat Soup with cheese and some whole grain crackers; salad with chicken, black Beans, low fat cheese and low cal dressing; leftovers from dinner the night before. Dinner .... Last night, baked chicken, peas, a little stuffing; night before, chicken dipped in an egg wash and coated with a little crushed French's onions and baked, with mixed veggies; baked fish with half a baked potato and a vegetable (everybody in my house enjoys this meal, so we have it regularly, just changing the type of fish and vegetable).

first day transition from liquid to mushies
cwalker replied to cwalker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks guys, it just seemed as if you get in 2 oz liquid with no problem on the clears that it wouldnt be a problem on the mushies..but it is a big difference so I backed up and started on smoothies with greek yogurt and soups blenderized, got to remember to get liquids in. I feel great even drove myself 2 hrs to see Doctor 8 days post op..yay for the grannies!!:001_smile: -
I weighted 217 when I had my surgery. I'm now 190. I go to the gym for two hours 4 days a week. I do cardio and strength training. I also walk a lot. I don't count calories but I try and sick to three meals a day. If im starving then I have a snack. My Dailey meal plains looks something like this: Greek yogurt plan with maybe a banana or a Protein shake with kale. A salad with grilled chicken or maybe a turkey chili or left overs from dinner. Or a Kale shake. Dinner is 4 oz of protein and a green veggie if I have room. I have an appoint with my dr this Friday! I'm just so disappointed I thought I would have done better!
