    Gall Bladder

:faint: i had my gallbladder removed after having had my band 5 years and i was told it was due to rapid weight loss and is quite common with banders so i was relieved as i was sure something was wrong with my band but its fine.so i think you might hear more banders having gallbladders removed.

    Any sleepers from Ga?

She had lap band with him around 5 years ago. She had complications and had to have it out in December. I think she's going to have a revision and get the sleeve. I hope so. She lost a lot of weight but she didn't follow the rules.

    The Gym

I'm 12 days post op and I was wondering when everyone else started going to the gym. Before surgery I use to workout all the time (every other day). I lifted weights and did cardio. So my desire for the gym is through the roof right now. However, I've had a slower recovery and I know that if I went, I probably wouldn't last too long. I have no weight restrictions anymore but I know well enough not to go back and try to squat the 150 pounds I could before surgery. So when did people go back to the gym and what exercises did they start with first? Obviously my surgery and my health come first so I'm willing to wait. My surgeon just said when you feel ready.

    Where the doubters ever right?

There will always be haters. Sad, but true. I experienced that at work tonight. In a group setting a few ladies were commenting on my weight loss. One person said "I could do that too if I had surgery".
  9. Has anyone experienced this...i am doing Protein and liquids....i can eat reg foods now but still am full really fast so i dont understand why i am gaining weight....helppppp Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App
  10. Change and increase the intensity of your exercise regime' and analyze your caloric and water intake. If it's too low, carb and sodium laden, and too low in fat, those things alone can account for slowed weight loss.
  11. I understand I think if I would have stayed at my same weight 338 he would cancel my surgery. Now I'm 315 as of this morning 315. I'm trying my best to make sure I shrink my liver for a safety surgery. It's so hard being on this pre op diet. It's more of a mind thing for me. Do you have a surgery date? Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. My official started date of pre op diet was July 13, so far down 21lbs. I'm happy my goal is to lose 10lbs in 6 days. I think I can do it with liquids and a little excercise. My doctor didn't want me to gain weight. Does anybody have a goal to reach in there Pre op diet? Or do your doctor have goal for you? Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Rant

It's amazing to me when I get the "Oh but you can do it without surgery" statement especially from people who know I've been in more and more pain for a few years. I always respond with "So you're saying you would rather see me try to lose the weight and fail over and over again than to choose a safe and proven method hmm!" Always no response.

    Pre op diet start Monday

My pre op diet is a 14 day diet with liquids and authorized bowl or can of soup, only restriction stay away from creamy Soups and basil. I’m scheduled for my Gastric sleeve on 07/29/2013 I’m currently on week 2 day 10 OF 14. A few things I have noticed during my pre op diet Day 1,of my actual diet was quite easy because the day before I started, I ate several large meals that consisted of a bunch of Protein and salad type veggies, with very little carbs for example I had taco salads with no tortilla(s) or chips. So on my first day of liquids I spent a lot of time in the Restroom taking care of business because of the large meals. Day 2-4 I found myself battling with the temptation of cheating with cheat meals, only to then start battling with myself on what type of cheat meal to eat. I was goggling every web site and ad I could find on how many people cheated on their diet, what they ate, did their surgeries go ok, and etc. The majority of information I found that people were cheating and still made it successfully through their surgeries. No one that cheated badly even reported they didn’t have their surgery. Some people had binges and ate like the surgery was a funeral for food. I did cheat on my 6th day; I gave in to my mental distress of not having what I wanted. For my cheat meal I had a light chicken salad instead of dressing I had salsa to replace it. At this point I figured hey I really need this because I’m oh so hungry and I can’t go on. Well this couldn’t be farther from the truth in reality I only wanted to cheat because I’m an emotional eater. I was bored stuck at the hospital with my wife the night before and the stress of everything was piling on top of me. I also found out by goggling in different states various surgeons were requiring little to no pre op diets. So how dare they put us on this crazy diet (lol)? I wondered with me drinking a bunch of fluids and having no solid food for 2 weeks really that healthy for me, in my opinion it’s no more healthier than the taco salad I ate, and it’s no healthier than the guy or girl who has that binge meal every night because the depression of being overweight, and their dissatisfied with their quality of life, I included. So my food addiction like so many others have made us seek out a surgery that lowers the appetite, our intake of food, strict guidelines on when we can advance our diets. So why was I so shocked and paranoid about a simple diet, lord knows if someone told me that I would need to eat a medium pizza, drink several beers ,and eat various sweets like cakes or ice cream for 2 weeks straight I would be like you’re crazy. Why would I eat all that unhealthy food on purpose. So the pre op diet is not that bad in my opinion, is it hard hell yes, can someone really do it yes you can, why, because your new life depends on you, and the food choices you make. The pre op diet in my opinion is more mental than physically damaging. I believe this because my ego, my man hood was challenged because I had to be told what I could eat and drink , this just can’t be right because I’m my own boss right (lol)? Not so fast remember I’m the guy who got me into these bad eating habits and I was the one who was so quick to look for an excuse to blame my mental health, my work conditions, the bad news I got, and that failed promotion that didn’t go through. At the time these excuses seemed to make so much sense to me. But 10 days later now my Food detox is complete , my caffeine detox is complete but I’m not cured by a long shot. Since day 8 I have removed my soup and just made it with all liquids and Protein shakes. So it was and is all in my mind that I just couldn't do this 2 week liquid pre op diet. My starting weight was 316 lbs and day ten I’m down to 289 lbs, with only light walking as exercise. 4 more days to go and I’m actually looking forward to it. I have had a lot more energy than I have had in years, my head is a lot clearer, I even have more patience with people than usual. This by no means is something I (us) could do for life, but two weeks no problem. I’m excited about changing my life in a positive direction and welcome the new relationship with food. So stay busy and don’t stress about the diet just take it one minute, one hour, one day at a time. I’m doing it and you can to.
  15. Well, I got my third fill on Monday. I am up to 2.5cc's and FINALLY feel some restriction. Although, truthfully, I think I still need more. I have only lost about 18lbs since the surgery (3 months ago) and boy I am feeling discouraged. Anyone else have to have so many fills before getting adequately restricted? You know the psychological element of this whole thing plays such a role with me. I am so flipping performance oriented, and a perfectionist! I realize that I am scared to go home for Christmas, because I don't want to hear my mother say... "Gee... I thought you would have lost more by now." (Before I got the surgery, one of her friends who wants to have RNY, spent a considerable amount of time convincing my mom that Lap-Band's don't work!) Ugghhh... I am thinking of doing Atkins for the next week to convince her. Good Lord.... see what I mean about being screwed up in the head about this? Ok... enough whining! On a positive note.... Last weekend I bought one of those Gazelle excercise machines so I don't have to be trudging around in the snow. It's really ideal for me, because of the low impact. It's quite fun, so I am hoping the added excercise will help speed up the weight loss! Also, even with only losing 18, I am already down a dress size. I was a 26, now the 24's are very loose. All I want for Christmas is for my cherry red size 22 skirt to fit. Anyway... enough blathering on. Happy Holidays everyone! 255/237/150

    Need help from sleeve vets

    Shake Weight

In NC our local new station did a consumer reports thing on it and basically it's junk. You would be better off buying standard hand weights and use those during work outs or when walking. The only buy off TV work out equipment that I have that has worked well is a total gym. I do a 30 min session every other day on it. My strenght has increase along with my balance and how I feel. Plus, more muscle ups my metabolism.
  19. Deb, You're doing great! Congratulations on fitting into your jeans! The next time those negative thoughts start to enter your mind, physically carry a bag that contains the amount of weight you've lost. I used to do this when I would hit a plateau and become discouraged, and it truly helped me focus on my success. Keep working hard!
  20. I've decided it's just too hard to weigh myself everyday. I'm going to focus on my food intake and stop getting frustrated because I'm only losing an ounce or 2 a at time. I was really hoping to lose more weight faster but like the old song says: "You can't always get what you want, and if you try sometimes you'll find you get what you need!" TURTLES UNITE! julz~ <<<pushing the scale under the bed
  21. Springers, what we have lost so far either slowly or quickly is NOT a " little weight"! Go to the store and pick up 15# of sugar! it is significant! So Turtles unite! We are doing great! Let's keep on....1-2# per week is a victory! We are doing great and getting better at this process every week!
  22. Great advice Elizabeth! Yogi 15 lbs is great. I'm at about the same as you and if I think back to how much I struggled and failed prior to surgery it helps me realize how well I'm doing now. I'll take what little weight I've lost as a victory and remind myself that losing slowly is better than not losing at all.

    31 and pre-surgery

Hello Tiana. I am Nicole and I am in the pre-op part of this process as well in Northern California. I have my insurance through Kaiser and I have currently completed the 2 hr orientation, 4hr class, 1 surgeon appointment, and nutrition class. I have my next appointment scheduled on May 21st for my psychological exam. I am 3lbs shy of the goal weight they have given, but will hopefully reach that when I go back in. Good luck on your journey
  24. My surgery was 9/13 and I hit the stall too. It shocks me that my body is getting less than 500 calories and the weight isn't dropping. A bit frustrating for sure.
  25. I'm on the same schedule as you (except I started pre-op 9/9) but my belly is still so bloated from the surgery that I know I'm holding weight from that. Think of all the carbon dioxide that is pumped in to perform the surgery, the IV fluids, the swelling - we're still healing from all that. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
