    Greetings

I went to the hospital today and waited around for 4 hours only to be cancelled. I developed a boil of all things on my stomach and my surgeon said we would have to wait till it clears up. So he put me on antibiotics and said to make an appointment at his office in about 10 days. He said that he would try to fit me in for surgery asap. Unbelievable! He was right of course but all the planning for time off with my job and my husband's job out the window. Plus I was psyched and ready to go. Grrrrrrr

    What was it like ?

My experience was little pain. I told them I am ready to walk that hall way. The nurse laughed and said lets let you drink something first. I slept all evening and night after my two hour ride home (about 430 pm) . Surgery was at 930 am . Woke up in recovery room at 10:15 am!!! I had soreness for next two days only when I forgot and bent over to pick up something (dog toys). Good luck, edie

    Dr David Kim Colleyville

I'm with you Donny! I would really appreciate a 1 week pre-op, too! I sleeve with Dr Kim on 10/23 at Baylor Trophy Club. I did NOT have to buy his shakes so was sorry to read that someone felt they had to. Started my pre op diet two days ago. I'm not as miserable as I thought I would be. My cravings are the only thing bugging me right now...my hunger isn't an issue (thank goodness). Best wishes everyone -Kym

    What? Why So Confusing

I have BC/BS of Alabama & was denied immediately ( after the required 6 mos nutrition visits, psych eval & so on) because bmi was not documented @ 40 for 3 yrs, & the nutrition visits not signed by PMD . BMI 37 to 38 for 10 yrs... No where in the policy did it say any of this ! Have decided to pay out of pocket using other resources. It is worth it at this point. There was no way to appeal.
  5. I've sold some and donated some. The best stuff went to a friend who is my old size. But yeah, I have been buying and selling on eBay for over 10 years.
  6. I think that's what I'm gonna miss most, sushi. I LOVE LOVE LOVE sushi. Well, California rolls, actually. I used to be able to eat two or three rolls. I really enjoyed going to a bar with friends and us all getting a couple different rolls and sharing pieces of them. Some night I'd have 10 or 12 different pieces of sushi. The symphony of flavors was amazing. I know that's what I'm going to mourn most.

I eat a third of a banana with real Peanut Butter almost every day- and I'm 10 weeks post op and have lost 56lbs- since surgery- some peoples bodies handle it! Fruit is good carbs! And they help me to lose every day!

Quest Bars are not what they say they are

I think the quest bars are great for a 10 mile hike, or to stash in your car or desk in case you get caught too long without any real food. Where they become a problem IMO is when people eat them at home as a daily meal or snack. You're right, at home there are always better choices. Agreed. I haven't had a lot of luck keeping "a few ounces of sliced chicken pieces with red pepper or apple slices with almond butter" in my cubicle drawer for an extended period of time. Fiddle is right about the mystery ingredients tho - I made the mistake of staring too long at the insides of a Quest Bar. I won't be doing that again!

    My big NSV!! (pictures)

What a great NSV and what a great looking bunch of lass's. I can see a slight resemblance in the cheek curvature of everyone. P.S., I hope to look as great as mom does when I am her age and I would hope I look just as great after having 10 kids...wow! Hehehe, I fell completely apart after 2 kids. I was 145 when I got pregnant with my last one and skyrocketed to 240lbs . Not even 3 kids yet.. I plan on taking one of these pictures when I see my mom in July or August and my sister. I used to be the smallest and now I am the biggest..even still after dropping the lbs, I'm still the biggest. Can't wait to "not be" anymore:cool: .

Are others in your family overweight/obese?

Oddly enough, my parents were thin through their childhoods, and into their 30's. 3 of the 4 grandparents were average sized, weight wise, but tall. My grandma on Dad's side was short, no taller than 5'3" and was pear shaped. Dad said I am built like her, but taller. My siblings are all sized 12 or larger, the reason I want to be a size 10!!!!

    Shrinking feet???

I sort of hadnt noticed that my feet had gotten bigger. I have size 10 feet anyway, pretty much the biggest you can get in Australia in women's shoes, without going into specialist shoes or having them made. Because of the ankle problem - chronic bursitis - that I'd developed that was my main reason for surgery, I had huge swellings on the lateral side of either ankle, in that hollow at the side of your heel and it was very painful to press. So for a year at least, all I'd worn on my feet apart from boots or similar when I went out at night, was clogs and birkenstocks. Which is my general everyday style anyway. But with all the loafers and the like that came into fashion last winter, I suddenly realised I couldnt get size 10 shoes on my feet anymore. Since losing 29kg, and getting my ankles better too, I'm now a 9 to 9 and a half again.
  12. They are treating me with antibiotics for 10 days "just in case" it might be cellulitis. It's slowly getting a little bit better...and it's good that it hasn't gotten worse. I'm just supposed to keep an eye on it and go to the ER if it gets worse. I think it will be okay. Thank, everybody!

Help! I need a new surgeon asap!

Congratulations on choosing Dr. Kurian -- I just saw her today and love her. She greeted me with a big hug and kiss and was so incredibly attentive. (I'm 10 days post-op now). I managed to be scheduled for surgery with her 3 weeks after my consult. Her surgery days are Tuesdays and Thursdays.

    Hungry

:wink2::biggrin:I feel like I eat too much too. But the times when I do best are the times when I 1. eat very slowly (eat as if food doesn't interest me that much--even though normally I would wolf it down!) 2. really concentrate on the tast of my food WHILE I am eating slowly(if you are enjoying conversation with a friend, then put your fork down while he/she is talking and listen, talk back if necessary, then pick your fork back up and resume eating, slowly. 3. eat 6 small meals of mainly protein (truly this doees work) a ahlf a cup of egg beaters with a piece of FF cheese melted on it for breakfast ( Ieat one piece of WW toast with it)...a protein shake about 10:30...tuna made with mustard and old bay wrapped in a lettuce leaf for lunch (I was suprised at how good this was!!) and a SF pudding... either another protein shake or about 6 shaved slices of turkey deli select wrapped in a piece of cheese, or a cottage cheese cup with applesauce...then your dinner of baked chicken breast and veggie, or broiled seafood and veggie, then exercise then another high protein snack in the evening..about every three hours . That't what MY surgeon reccommended, and it does work for me....just a suggestion.

    Pre Op Diet

Hi Everyone... I am having my surgery on 4/9 - I feel so excited - even though it is my last weekend with food. I am a ton of faith in my doctor, he is the head of bariatric surgery at the hospital where I am having my procedure. My pre op diet seems to be different then most. I will be on Optifast shakes and bars for 12 days, then two days of clear liquid. A little nervous but I can loose between 10 and 20 pounds before the surgical date. Is anyone else on a pre op diet like this?

    April 2022 VSG surgery..

to gain 4.6 lbs in a week, you would have had to have eaten 16,100 extra calories - that is, calories above and beyond what your body needs. So unless you've eaten that many extra calories this week, then the "gain" is likely due to water retention or very full intestines. In either case, it should be gone in a couple of days. and yes - you do have to monitor your food intake for life, unfortunately. I gradually put on 10 lbs over the course of a year because I wasn't monitoring myself as closely as I usually do. Working on taking that off now (have lost 7 lbs of it it so far - YAY!). This is a lifelong battle.

    Unladylilke Gas (serious question)

when i first met soon to be DH i had good restriction. about 7 months later i went 1 year without ANY restriction. during that year my burps became AMPLIFIED. i tried to cover it up and excuse myself but there really wasnt much i could do. i would tell calvin that 'its my band' he of course thought it was me being comfortable with him and letting it fly....TO THE TUNE OF A 10 YR OLD! he even started burping louder, his way of showing me that he *knows* i can control it then he would laugh and say 'its my band' *shakes head* he has RNY!!!... lol...so now that i am restricted again i cant burp to save my life and i TOTALLY am giving him hell about teasing me for my uncontrollable burps... now that i am tighter, i AM rumbly in the tummy (like i should have to run to the bathroom) all day but so far i havent *noticed* anything more than usual actually coming out gas wise. i HAVE had problems with constipation like you wouldnt believe but i am 100% positive thats from ATKINS and sugar free CANDY. 2 things i will NEVER touch again!
  19. None of those figures are really appealing to me. As long as I can get into a size 14, I'll be happy. A 10 would be even better.

    Stretch Marks

When I look at pics, I notice NO One has as many streach marks as I do. I want to post my scar stages but the wriggly lines all over my stomach are so hideous. I want from like 135 pounds to 235 pounds from age 15 to 19.. (3 kids) The only place I dont have streach marks is on my hands, lower arms and ankles and feet and face. AGE 15 I had NO stretch marks at all. NOT ONE. I had big boobs but they had always been big and I was curvy but that happened at a young age and my stomach was really flat. I knew friends who had stretch marks who were thinner than me but I never did. Then I had my first born. (age 16) MY SON, gave me these HUGE streach marks, they look like big fat slugs. They are like 10 inches long and up to 3 inches wide, maybe more (I should measure.) All over my stomach. I also got these HUGE ones on my pubic bone, behind my knees and under my arms. AND MY BOOBS have never looked the same.. Long, deep marks that have never ever gone away and he almost 19 yrs old now Then my daughter came not even 10 months later and gave me TONS and tons of these long white and red thin lines that made me look like a zebra, all over my stomach along side the Big slug ones and higher. All over my calves and the front of my legs and the front of my upper arms.. zigzaggin all down the back of my legs right to my ankles. My thighs are like the moon with craters of long holes.. THEN.. my next child came at 19, and she went and gave me a bunch of these sideways nicks.. They ran verticle instead of horizontal.. and instead of being long, they were short, like stab wounds or something.. So, I bet no one can beat that stretch mark story.. lol Once in teen parenting class, this really really skinny girl, who was like no more than 105 pounds.. got pregnant and I exspected the same thing to happen to her.. BUt she got two tiny nicks on each side of her stomach and thats all.. I was so jealous.. But then I realized, Hey she didnt gain 100 extra pounds.. BUT still, her belly was HUGE after being completely flat.. so OH well.
  21. I am going through the same thing. I haven't hit goal yet, but I am close. I had surgery 10 months ago and have lost 139 pounds so far. For the last month or so, I've been letting myself have popcorn and a few bagels. It's such a slippery slope, and it has stopped my weight loss in its tracks. I can't help but wonder if I'm suddenly eating these foods again not because they're my favorite, but because so many people have made such a big deal about my loss (in a positive way) that maybe psychologically I don't like the attention? I have read that people like myself get big to hide behind it. And now that I'm getting attention, I'm uncomfortable with it. I don't know for sure that's the answer, but it's a theory. Even on my wedding day I didn't care to be the center of attention. So I might be onto something.
  22. Go to my profile and look up previous posts I've made/contributed on this subject for specifics. Overall I don't have a lot of loose skin. Zero on my arms. A little bit on my inner thighs. A lot on my abdomen. It doesn't look bad when I'm standing up, but bending over, I look like I could welp a litter! I can grab handfuls of skin starting just under my breastbone down to my pubic area. All of my stretch marks are below my belly button and are from two pregnancies. A tummy tuck is the only thing that will fix that if i eventually go down that route. Genetics plays a HUGE role as well as how long you were over weight and how much you were over weight. I have a naturally athletic hour-glass figure that works in my favor, so I'm hoping with a little toning and exercise, I will see some improvement. There are some red flags. For example, if you have pockets of fat that start right above your elbows, you will likely have bat wings. Just remember that it takes your skin 2-3 months to bounce back every time you lose weight. There are times my thighs would look horrific and a fews months later they would look fine. I took the photo below 3 weeks ago when I weighed 153 or so. I'm 5'7", 43 years old and was 245 at my heaviest. 226 the day of surgery. My goal is to get to 145ish although now I'm not so much focused on a number as what my body looks like. I am an active person but just started "exercising" (walking 10,000 plus steps a day) this month 11 months post-op. I haven't lifted weights at all. I swallowed my pride and originally posted this picture a few weeks ago because I know pre-op I remember having a lot of questions about loose skin. Even now, most people are covering themselves up in their after photos and it leaves me wondering what is lurking underneath. So here is my loose skin. Be kind. The reality is losing the weight is the easy part. The cluster-f*** of body-image issues that arise post-surgery is real and is something we all should be aware of and expect as part of the journey. I am a middle-aged woman who has had two children. I will never have the body of a 19 year-old. I'm learning to love the skin I'm in. Even if it is a tad loose in places! I'm healthy and I look smoking HOT in clothes! I'm working on the looking smoking hot naked part! ????
  23. Hello everyone, My name is Tamika, and I am from Michigan. A little bit about me, I am 35, engaged to be married (8/20/16), work in information security, and have been on a weight loss journey most of my adolescent and adult life. I have normal cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar/A1C, and no heart issues. I do have polycystic ovarian syndrome, and suffered reproductive issues. I did lose about 100-200lbs on my own in spaces, but have been hovering between 275 and 368 for about ten years, with the last two years essentially at a stall in weight loss (most likely due to PCOS). I finally decided I need help through weight loss surgery. I was thinking of the sleeve originally, but may entertain the gastric bypass since my BMI is over 50. I am in the beginning stages, my initial appointment is on Monday, January 17th with Beaumont Weight Control Center. I did the seminar on 1/7. I was told by my insurance company they will cover surgery and the 6 month requirement of a weight loss program is waived if the patient's BMI is over 50 (currently at 58). The requirements for Beaumont is to lose 5-10% preoperatively, do some medical tests. For those of you with a similar BMI, how long was the wait from initial appointment to surgery? Thanks,
  24. I haven't had the surgery yet, (scheduled for next week, 4/19!:clap2: ) but noticed that a lot of responses list protien shakes as a meal replacement. What are some of the best shakes and where do you get them???? Also, it is good to see that a lot of you eat really normal foods, just not a lot!! Thanks, Jen V.

how long would someone be off work?

That is good advice, to ask your dr... I was told not to lift more than 10 pounds for 3 weeks. No ab work (sounds like your job needs abs) for 3 months. Maybe you can transfer departments for a while? Best of luck to you...and be careful!
