    When Is The Stall

I don't think there is an exact stall date for people. Generally it happens first between 3-5 weeks. I had one in my second week. I had a second in week 6. I wouldn't worry about jump starting anything- instead you should temper your expectations. If you go a month without losing any weight and see no changes is measurements or clothing sizes, then you may want to talk to your doc or nut. And stop weighing yourself every day. That will only drive you crazy. Two pounds a week is great progress for normal weight loss, so you are probably way ahead of the game right now.

    When Is The Stall

I will be having my surgery in less than a week. I have a question about stalls. When you get in a stalling period, do you need to do something different or keep doing the same thing. I have heard of people trying to jump start their diet in some way but do you do this in a stall after VSG?

    Anyone else?

I am scheduled for 3/16 NEXT WEEK. Yikes. :scared0:Getting my payment check today. Saw my PCP last week she was sooooo supportive! I was nervous about telling her. So I am all set to have any post-op tests that need to be done. Good luck! D.
  4. I was banded on 3/6/07 and yesterday I finally felt better than I had since surgery. I was even able to sleep on my favorite side for a little while without a ton of pain. Kudos for you for going back to work so quickly. I took off a full five days (I have a desk job) and the first day was rough but now at day three I feel "normal". Good luck to you!

    Scale isn't moving

Congratulations! You have reached The Dreaded Week-3 Stall. It's perfectly normal, and just about all of us have suffered through it. You're not crazy, and your doctor didn't screw up. In fact, you might not lose any weight for two weeks or even longer. But don't worry – after that, the weight will start falling off if you stick to your program. And, the inches continue to come off even while the scale isn't budging. If you're interested, here's a good article that explains why it happens and why we all have to go through it. Hang in there. Pretty soon it'll be in the rear-view mirror and you'll be dropping weight again like crazy! (Apologies to BP regulars who have seen this repeatedly, but it's a big deal to those who are going through it!)
  7. I'm returning to work tomorrow (just half days til next week) after my panni & abdominoplasty. I'm so not ready for this, but I guess I have to eventually. I can't say there's still pain per se......maybe a little incision pain on my hips, but a tightness & soreness in my muscles that were repaired that is hardest. I just remember how drained I was at the end of the day when I went back after the sleeve. I only took 2 weeks then and probably could have used 3. For this I took 3 weeks and could have used 4. lol. Anyway. Me=Super Nervous. Any tips for returning to work after this for those who had it done? I'm open to any and all advice!!

    Vitamins

@@lucy0911 - Talk to your doctor. I was allowed to return to regular pills after 6 weeks. If you are someone who has difficulties swallowing pills you may want to look into liquid vitamins instead.

    Jealous

It's cliche, but true. Try not to compare yourself to others. I lost at a rate of 3/4 of a pound per week. Slower than the expected 1-2 pounds per week for most patients. I was seeming my fellow band mates losing much faster than I. But I kept marching on. And you know what? I now wear a size 10, sometimes an 8, and I have been there for a year now! I am wearing out clothes before I grow out of them. How exciting is that!? Time keeps moving, whether you are losing 5 pounds a week or 2, you will still get to your goal. It might take a little longer than you'd like, but you WILL get there. That's the thing with a band. You are doing a drastic diet that comes to an end. You are eating right and creating habits that you will continue forever. Keep doing what you are doing! You'll get there!
  12. Yup. All normal. You're doing great! The gas still happens to me sometimes when i drink or eat too quickly. Mine don't often come all the way out, but I can feel it traveling up inside me. The weight gain is from the fluid from the IV. It will come off quickly. And your sore incision is probably where they removed your stomach. Mine was pretty sore for a couple weeks and was the last to heal up. Again, all normal! Good luck.
  13. Well, I know there is a bottom limit, so if she has mentioned it, make sure you stay above. For me it was above 40 when I went to get approved for the surgery. After that I could drop as much as I wanted. But I got approved 13 days (my surgery got moved up by 4 weeks because there was an opening and everything but insurance was approved at that time.) Thank you. My motivation has always been to prevent another back surgery, which I did. Now I need to find another motivation to pull myself together a little. I have been slipping a little lately. I do have extra skin. It might not look like ut, but it's there, especially on my legs. I know I have been lucky, considering I'm close to 100lbs and have no overhang. I'm up and down on my kcal, I have also been up and down with tracking lately. I'm anywhere from 1100-1600 I think. Today is a high day of over 1500 if I eat everything I have put into myfitnesspal. I believe one key to my success is that I meal prep. It gives me less options to stray into eating unhealthy stuff. So do you know when you'll have surgery?
  14. hi,after my last fill 3 weeks ago,i had the same problem (even posted it on here, asking for help myself),was very scary especially when i couldnt even hold down fluids but it did eventually loosen up.By the second day i was able to drink fluids, not in big gulps but in small frequent sips, and if that fails you could try sucking on ice blocks or icypoles,or even a wet face washer if you dont want to get an unfill, like i didnt. i will say though, after 3 weeks i am still having problems eating which really frustrates me,especially when im hungry, and i am having my hair falling out and bruising which i know is not good, but i am being able to keep small amounts down now.unlike when i first got the fill. I have got 6.2 in my band now and have heaps of restriction. Im not saying this is the way to go,but its the way i chose and all the best to you.
  15. I haven't weighed myself for 2 weeks. Kindof scared to. I don't want to be disappointed if I haven't lost that much. 2 weeks ago I was in a stall.
  16. Okay gals--- I had my SECOND fill of another c.c. (2 c.c. total) last week and still no restriction. I can still eat like a truck driver. Most of the time I don't, but I did today (two parties). Although, I must say that I did eat less than I normally would have, but still too much! I am wanting the restriction so badly but it's just not there. And what if it takes to 3 c.c. or more to feel restriction? Then I won't have restriction later on, right? Don't you need an adjustment every few months or so as you lose weight? There won't be any room left in my 4 c.c band. Getting discouraged...........

    Has this happened to you?

You have been banded what 6 weeks? I don't think your sutures can come undone from eating. What are you eating? Are you eating slow enough? Are you chewing to goo? Tell us more so we can help you better. My first guess would be that maybe something is sticking slightly, not enough to slime or PB just be really uncomfortable.

    Days Nothing Goes Down?

Fills sometimes don't kick in until days to weeks after. It is not uncommon to be able to eat for a while and then tighen up.

    Surviving Bandster Hell...

I was banded two weeks ago today. At my follow up last week, I was told I could start trying soft foods. Now, one week later, I have tried some other foods and have done well. However, I'm being sure to eat light (liquid or very, soft food) in the morning and at lunch and am starting to try other things. I'm chewing very carefully, eating slow and I've not had any issues so far.

    Debating referral

I did speak to the nurse in my PCP office and asked that they start the referral process... been a week and haven't heard anything yet. Not 100% sure on the surgery yet, but I definitely want the nutritionist and such... Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  23. I've been having issues trying to get my Calcium additives in daily, because the chewable tablets I have are SO unpleasant. I need to eat four of these daily to meet the dosage, and it's rare that I manage to chew all of them without feeling like I'm eating chalk. So yesterday I was at costco, and found their Kirkland brand calcium chews in a bag of 180 count, on sale for about $10.00. That alone was reason enough to give them a try, but then to find they each have 500mg(?) of calcium per chew, they're chocolate, and best of all: They taste like Tootsie Rolls! Three a day will fill the need, and they are much easier to eat than those chalky tablets I bought. Awesome!!! Dave

    hair loss

Hi. Okay, same thing happened to me, and I started freaking out. I went to a nutritional MD and they did all sorts of blood work on me, and being this was three years ago I'll tell you what I remember. I do remember I was on about 17 vitamins, which newly banded without the restriction I could actually tolerate, but as time went on, not so much. Despite the attempt at protein my iron was low, folic acid low, b1, b6...i was taking fish oil capsules, b1, b6, SILICA, had a few b12 injections and this doctor did IV vitamin infusion. to be honest I don't think much of it helped. Some people react to the surgery itself, some people react to the sudden loss of calories. It's like if the body thinks it's going to die of starvation it puts its resources into organs and not things like hair and nails. I think it did mellow it out a little, but it wasn't until I stopped the dramatic weight loss and stayed in a 5 lb range for a few months that it really stopped. I don't think it will ever be as thick as it was, but it's not falling out anymore. It's really freaky, I know. try not to focus on it, don't put your hair back more than you need to. My dermatologist also gave me a mousse called olux to try and calm the follicles. My first stop for you would be an endocrinologist or another doctor who can take a whole blood workup of you and interpret the results in a way that makes sense for you. Good luck  If you're in the NYC area I can give you the nutritional doc's name
  25. DW and I were banded by Dr Marsden about 5 weeks apart. I'm used to buying here clothes in the 18W-22W range. Yesterday I decided to surprise her with a new outfit for all her hard work. I bought an outfit at Macy's with the top and bottom in size 14. I thought it might be incentive to work a bit harder. Low and behold, I brought it home and she tried it on and it FIT PERFECTLY. WOW I can't remember the last time she was able to wear that size. Way to go EgorsGirl!!! :rolleyes2::thumbup::biggrin: gk
