  1. AIM, at about 2 weeks post op, I consulted with my team (Surgeon, PA, + NUT) and I started mashed foods and pureed meat added to that mashed food. I've been on that same regiment for the last two weeks and will continue to do so (I agreed) for the next month. Talk to your NUT about adding in avocado, soft meats - not much more in quantity but spaced out (ie, not 3 square meals).
  2. You're definitely not alone! I'm 2 weeks post-op too. I'm having a hard time with the protein and getting enough as well. And I'm eternally running out of energy. I used to do 10k steps a day at work + all the physical duties. And here I can barely go a few minutes of doing something and I have to sit down for a while and catch my breath. I'm looking forward to when I can add in meat etc - I'm hoping it'll help with my protein intake and my strength.

WOW! Good Job!! 18lbs!!! I hope you have the same luck this time. . and so smart of you to do that. I, on the other hand, have not been as disciplined. I've been focusing on cutting out the caffeine and this week, cutting out the sugar.

    January Surgery buddies

I start today! I get two protein shakes plus one carb-free meal per day. I actually did a trial run of it last month, and it got really easy after the first couple of days. Plus I lost 18 lbs over three weeks. You got this!
  5. Hey, OP here. Congrats to everyone. I lost the majority of my weight while on WW. I rejoined again 1 week before Covid hit( March 2020). I was so stressed and depressed that I put on 10lbs. I've lost it since and even more. I started at 290, I'm now 185. I haven't reached " goal weight" since my sugery, but I'm ok with it. I'd like to lose 20 more, and I hope I do. I'm not obsessed with it. WW makes me too obsessed, counting points, worried about my next meal. Now I try to practice intuitive eating.
  6. December 7th for me! And a hiatal hernia repair . I was under the impression the hernia repair would be the easiest part of recovery, but it’s actually been the most uncomfortable. The sleeve itself was not nearly as scary or hard to recover from as I thought it would be. The first week has been hard but it’s gets so much easier each day!!

What do non-cooks eat in the 4th month?

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. I’m 9 weeks post op and I think I need to stop trying to incorporate different foods and stick to the more simple suggestions that are here. At Whole Foods, I’ve found a brand called Tribal Foods and the have lots of flavorful protein/meat options, like Thai Chicken Patties, Asian meatballs and Chipotle chicken Patties. Just that and a little veg should be enough.
  8. A new NSV for me at 9 weeks post-op is getting out of the tub is much easier and I can push myself up with arm strength alone.
  9. backstory: I was sleeved 9/14, left hospital with midline because i couldn't handle fluids. midline was taken out week 2, then week 3 i ended up in the hospital for a week with severe dehydration, was sent home on a picc line. picc line was taken out around week 8 because i was finally able to handle 40-50oz of gatorade zero/vitamin water (cant handle regular water) and 2 protein shakes, and then eventually i could handle about 1oz of soft/puree food. this was until about a week ago when the nausea came back, currently taking 12mg of zofran a day because of it (not all at once). it's been getting worse since last week and now im basically back on clear liquids and even that is giving me ridiculous nausea. I'm also on 80mg of pantoprazole. I talk to the PA and dietician on alternating weeks over zoom. I am going in person this week. I might also go get a second opinion. No imaging or tests have been done to rule out any causes. They basically have given me no answers as to why this is happening. does anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to why this is happening or what to do? has anyone gone through anything similar? i feel so helpless at this point. I don't know what to do.
  10. I’m having the same worry! Monday will be 4 weeks for me (RNY on 11/22), and right now I’ve only lost 11 pounds since surgery. I have no problem getting enough protein — 60-90g, right from the start — but I do struggle to drink more than 40-50oz of water each day, and I’m definitely not walking as much as I should. I know my weight loss will be less dramatic than someone who had a higher starting BMI, but I wonder if I’m on track. I just transitioned from liquids to soft foods at the start of the week, and I find myself worrying (a tiny bit) about the “extra” calories…crazy, right?!
  11. Although at first things are very restrictive, they become more loose after a few weeks. Like others said, I will have thin crust pizza once every couple weeks, equivalent of one slice. I also steal 3-4 of my children’s french fries on weekends, and am satisfied. However, I haven’t eaten anything with added sugar since the sleeve. Not even a bite. The occasional sugar-free chocolate, as well as protein bars, more than satisfies me. I think it really is dependent on the person, but this works for me.

    weight loss

most people lose 15-25 lbs the first month. Of course you'll always find a few who lose more or less than that, but they're outliers. So you're perfectly normal. if you're basing your loss on that show "My 600 lb Life", then you need to adjust your expectations. Those people start out MUCH heavier than your average WLS patient, so OF COURSE they're going to lose a lot faster. Your loss is completely normal. In fact, it's even a little on the high side. P.S. I lost 16 lbs the first month (so probably around 12 lbs or so in the first three weeks - but I have only my monthly weigh-ins recorded from that far back), and I started out MUCH heavier than you. You are fine. Quit worrying. If you're following your program and your overall trend is down, you're golden!
  13. Yeah a home health nurse comes once a week to take blood for lab tests and change my bandage on my central line.

Nothing only about 20lb in three weeks. How much were you expecting to lose by this time?

    Disgust to food

Again, always good to give the team a call to be sure! But yeah. Week 2, and my protein shakes had no way of going down. Had to get sugarfree powder instead etc.
  16. So i had surgery about 23 days ago, and as of Monday of last week, I was able to start my soft food diet. Everything was going extremely well and nothing hurt my stomach or didn’t agree with me. Up until maybe 3-4 days ago, every single thing I take a bite of or eat, I get extremely disgusted and repulsed by it. It could be foods that I have eaten in the past week that agreed with me and i loved, or even new foods. I take about 1-2 bites and I cannot continue because of how grossed out I get. I still make sure to drink my water, my protein shakes and take my vitamins but it does make it a lot more challenging to hit my daily protein goal. Is this something that would be considered normal at this stage? Has anybody else experienced this and have any advice on what to do?

"Only" 20 pounds in three weeks?! I think that's a fantastic amount, especially considering that your body has gone through a big trauma and is still healing. I know it's hard not to compare yourself to others, but progress varies so much, since it's affected by your initial weight, how much you lost before surgery, how damaged your metabolism is from previous dieting, your genetics, and like a million other factors. Keep sticking to your plan and be proud of the success you've had so far!
  18. HI all!!! So I had my bypass on 11/17/21 a few days after I started getting really nauseous and couldn't eat of drink. The Friday after Thanksgiving I begin throwing up massive amounts of blood and clots. My surgeon rushed me to ER. They did a CT scan and everything looked good. They admitted me and started fluids. over the next week I had an endoscopy and a text on my gallbladder. The endoscopy showed no new blood but my stomach lining was VERY irritated. The gallbladder test showed it was not draining properly. He decided he was going to remove it. At the same time he was getting concerned because my numbers were out of whack and my protein levels were dropping. They put a central line in and began feeding me TPN through it. Gallbladder surgery went well and he was very happy he removed it because it was very distended. I was discharged a week ago with TPN. So now I am home with my central line and TPN every night. I still can't really eat anything and even drinking causes me pain and nausea. Anyone experience ANY of this???

    Home from surgery

Oh good! Glad to hear. I did some searches after I asked and saw that most people are able to lie flat after the first week out or so. Sitting in a recliner for too long is making me sore already!
  20. Pre-surgery, I am down 3-4 sizes on bottoms (size 26-28 from size 32). I'm wearing big baggy tops for now. I've stitched up the size seams of all of my underpants and bras and swimwear so I won't have to buy new during the immediate transitional period. Surgery is just a week away, so I will have to buy more soon and also take a trip to Goodwill to buy pants and tops. I think can get by with my winter sweaters and coats. Best NSV of all, I went out to lunch last weekend and sat in a booth, with room to spare between my belly and the table. That hasn't happened in years.

    Coffe

My program allows coffee, up to 2 cups per day. Even though I'm a coffee addict I didn't want it the first 2 weeks post op.

Only 9 pounds almost 4 weeks post op

how far out are you? Those amounts are low, but not crazy low. If you're early out (like within the first couple of weeks post-surgery), focus more on the fluids since being dehydrated can land you back in the hospital. I was able to meet my protein requirements right away, but it can take a month or so for some people to reach them. Never mind - I just noticed the title of your post - almost four weeks out. Just keep working at it. It does take some people longer to get their protein intake up. And like I said above, yours isn't crazy low. having the first stall within the first month is SUPER common, so you may just be in a stall if you're not losing weight. Are you following your program to a "T"? If so, the stall will eventually break and you'll be on your way again... also, I don't know what your starting BMI/weight is, but if it's on the low side (for a WLS patient), you're not going to lose as quickly as someone who starts out at over 300 lbs...
  23. mine isn't chronic, but I was experiencing occasional reactive hypoglycemia (RH) when I got to be about two years out (it'd hit me about two hours or so after eating - not all the time, but enough that i knew something was going on and had a complete work-up). My PCP recommended eating something about every three hours - preferably a protein - and if I DID eat a carb, to be sure to pair it with a protein. Seems to have helped - I rarely have that issue anymore. btw - if yours is due to RH, that's not unheard of with bypass (not sure about the mini version of bypass, though...)

    Oatmeal

I just use the quick oats... 1/3 Cup Quaker Quick Oats 2/3 Cup Fairlife Milk 15g of Powdered Peanut Butter (this is epic) 15g Unflavoured Protein Powder I have had this everyday since about week 4
  25. I'm feeling worried,. I'm not getting all my protein in or water. I'm getting like 50 ounces of water in and 50 to 60 protein in. And not losing weight. I can't walk much I need a new hip and back surgery. I feel like I am failing.. sad for me Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app
