Anyone from Houston, TX? Need some real barbaric pals!
knmcd replied to Savannah Lee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I live South of Houston. I'm using Dr. Audencio Alanis. I'm getting a revision from the band to sleeve. Right now I'm getting through insurance red tape, so no exact surgery date set yet, but tentatively it's looking like September 22nd, or 24th! -

I had a band to sleeve revision on June 1st. I've lost more weight since June 1st than I lost in the past 2 years with the band. I haven't thrown up. I don't have nausea. I don't have that sharp stabbing pain when the port moves and slides over a nerve. I can eat chicken again. I was never able to eat chicken in any shape, sort or form after the band. My tastes changed. Sweets don't taste good and don't even look appealing. I've eaten more vegetables in the past 2 months than I've eaten in the past 6 years.

Band to Sleeve and other questions!
NoMoBand replied to iamshazza's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm 4 months out from lap band to sleeve revision. Was very successful with band, but, ended up with stretched esophagus. Best thing about sleeve is when you fill your sleeve you are "full" and "full" is definitely "full" and no room for overeating!!! No more measuring food, I know when to stop on my own, no more getting stuck, slimming, night coughs, frothing, throwing up. I can have about 1/2 cup of food at mealtime depending on what kind of Protein I eat and no more. Being sleeved is very different from being banded. I am very pleased with the sleeve so far. 30 lbs. lighter and feeling great! The only discomfort with sleeve is I get slight heartburn at times, but, this is one of the possibilities with sleeve and doctor tells me it usually goes away and nothing that Pepsid doesn't take care of. I'm glad I did this because at first I seriously considered just getting the band removed and continue with my life and the gym, but, after having my band emptied, I started gaining weight rather quickly and changed my mind very quickly. Hope this is of some help. jake -
diluted esophagus and restricted band
NoMoBand replied to bandproblems's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my band 4 years and my journey ended having it removed and revised to sleeve 4 months ago. My issue was also a stretched esophagus. With my esophagus working as a 2nd stomach, I could eat more and I gradually started gaining weight was my first symptom. When my esophagus issue was discovered my band was emptied and I put on even more weight very quickly. With the weight gain I qualified on the BMI requirement for revision. In addition, I was still on medications for high blood pressure, which also helped me qualify. Getting the band removed was a very tough and sad decision for me and revision was even tougher. Four months out and my feelings have completely changed about my revision. 30 pounds down, no more stuck episodes, no more slime, no more puking, night coughs etc. and the very best is that "feeling full" is really "feeling full"! No more measuring meals, I can now do my own push aways very easily. I understand how you are feeling and the unknowns. Hang in there. If band removal is in your future, don’t let revision surgery scare you. Of course, I’m going to say that sleeve is the way to go, but, then I would be saying different had I had the by-pass done. One thing I do know is that I still need my weight loss tool! Having my band emptied a few months, I started gaining weight and started to fall back into my old habits of overeating. Much luck to you and please do keep me informed of what happens. jake -
One month stall, beating myself up.
India928 replied to meyouus's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
PKinneB...I am scheduled for revision surgery in September but have been attending my bariatric support groups since May (three a month). At my last group there was a woman who spoke about her stall. She was doing everything right: sticking to the dietary plan, Water, exercise etc.... She did NOT lose weight for the first THREE months. Her body was holding on to everything it could. Finally, when her body realized she was not starving, she began to lose weight rapidly. (two pounds a DAY) Eventually she leveled out and everything worked out. She is eight years post-op and looks great. Her advice to the group, and mine to you is, do not give up! Ride it out. Do what you need to do, stick to your regime and stay clear of the scale- weigh once weekly if you can. Keep the faith! -
Hey there September sleevers! Any one out there?
knmcd replied to notforthefaint's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was banded 3/13/2013, my tentative band to sleeve revision date is September 22nd, or 24th! So excited to get this thing OUT of me!! -
Hi, I'm almost 2 months out from revision to rny. I lost 40 pounds before surgery and 35 pounds post surgery. I have been at a stall for nearly a month and I am really getting down on myself. I get all the right Protein and liquids in, I don't cheat. One problem I do have is not eating enough. Could this be why I am not losing weight? I have mobility issues that prevent me from doing traditional exercising, but my surgeons PT gave me some exercises I can do in my chair. But I don't think they're doing anything to help. I'm extremely upset about this stall. I feel like I failed the surgery. I beat myself up every day, while trying to force myself to eat. Has this happened to anyone else??? I feel alone and would love to hear others' stories. Maybe a month stall is common? I did lose 75 pounds, but it just stopped, dead. HELP!!!

I just started soft foodsI'm sticking with the Dr's plan and I'm worried. I started at a lower weight and my surgery was a revision from the lap band. and two days of it and I've gained 4 lbs. Is this normal?

What does it feel like to have the sleeve v. band?
Maia Hilyard replied to buttercup06's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I currently have the band and want to make the switch to the sleeve but I am Very nervous since first off I have been big/mostly unsuccessful losing weight since birth, ha ha. Secondly, it was really embarrassing to pay out of pocket for the band & put my family in debt only to feel like the biggest failure ever! I read these revision stories & they all sound so positive. My experience with the band has not been a rough one so I just want to make sure I don't make the same mistake if I end up getting a revision. I have so many questions but my biggest one is when I did lose weight with the band it was because I was eating/keeping down almost nothing. I had to go to ER due to dehydration, got kidney stones a couple of times, my hair was falling out so badly I hardly had eyelashes or eyebrows & I felt weak and very sick but everyone would rave about how I looked which made it even harder. I remember thinking if this is how thin feels I don't want it. I was tired/shaky all the time and struggled to do everyday things like go to work, play with my kids & work out. I still struggle to get in my Protein since it gets stuck so easily and causes pain. I would like to know how do you all feel overall with your revision. How many calories are you eating roughly? How is your energy level ? -
Revision Surgery
CowgirlJane replied to maxxwill30's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Contact some local"center of excellence" bariatric programs. They all do revisions just pick one that has a good track record and program. Good luck! -
Hmmm interesting. I just told the Nurse I wanted to start the ball rolling on a revision from band to sleeve. Waiting for someone to call me back on that. But I may change my mind for about 300th time. I'm so afraid of doing this and it not working for me. I've been having band issues, but no slip or anything like that - just reflux, chest pain, nausea...which are all also symptoms of gallbladder disease apparently as well. I just wonder if I should get the gallbladder taken care of and see where that leaves me with the band. Oh geez! This is really hard. Truly. Because on days I don't feel so bad and am not having any band issues (like not being able to eat without it hurting) I think I'll just wait...yesterday I felt like crap so I was ready to get rid of it. I wish I had a crystal ball.

11 years post op, have gained 40 lbs, need to get rid of it.
rte837 replied to watterberry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Consider all the $ you've spent in the past. Consider all the "programs" you've tried in the past. Did it make a difference? If you're Dr. (bariatric surgeon) is still in the area, consider asking him/her first. If you're willing to go on a program, perhaps the original bariatric rules would work just as well and cost less. Just a thought. I myself gained back 60 of the 108 lbs I'd lost. I ended up having a revision. But my Dr. was very supportive and worked with me before we came to that decision. Good luck. -
Why did you choose the Sleeve over the Bypass

Need insightful thoughts.A revision is a big deal.Lapband out.....Sleeve or RNY -
I'm excited and nervous! I'm going in tomorrow to have a band to sleeve revision. My surgery is at 3pm and I have to check in at 1pm. Send prayers or good vibes my way please!!
-
I cancelled my date twice before I had revision surgery because of apprehension. Had it 6 weeks ago and am down 33 pounds already. I hardly had any pain. Band was more painful.
-
Had my revision in one surgery and it was an easier recovery than from the Lap band. Have lost 33 pounds in 6 weeks. Been great so far !
-
I was wondering if any of you had your revision surgery in Tijuana, Mexico. I am considering going there since my insurance company won't cover my band removal and the gastric sleeve surgery and I cannot afford the self pay option.

Good Day, I am seeking a surgeon near Alabama or in AL who performs revisions. Thank you so much for your help.

SLEEVE TO BYPASS REVISION
chasingpolaris321 replied to MissLaLa05's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm hoping that will be the case for me. I have to fly back in September to do testing and meet with the surgeon so I won't know more until then. I am crossing my fingers that things go smoothly! I don't think the coordinators are used to this type of revision and so it is frustrating to try to get ahold of them through email and Skype and get nonsensical answers. Good luck to everyone! -
SLEEVE TO BYPASS REVISION
SleeveandRNYchica replied to MissLaLa05's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Yeah I am dealing with a coordinator but she is challenging doesn't return calls or emails. I am done with my requirements I go to see my PCP tomorrow and will be sure everything is documented for me so it's more that just lack of weigh loss even though that is an issue too. I don't think the coordinators understand the revision process in total. -

Smoking! surgery 2 weeks away
Shustar replied to lealor's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I quit smoking a year ago after 43 years. Using a vape with 0 nicotine worked for me. I used it for a couple of months and now seldom think about it. I got my sleeve in Mexico and I will tell you there was a woman who had a band to RNY revision and she and her husband were both smokers. You might get the lecture in Mexico but it probably won't affect whether they do your surgery. If you can get off the cigs before your surgery you will heal better. Good luck!
