  1. So...I got up on Sunday morning and much to my surprise I had lost another 2 lbs...I was down to 173. I was AMAZED to say the least. I began to try on clothes that finally fit and pulled out the box with all of my old clothes. Several 12s fit and the 10s actually could be pulled up but not zipped. I was excited but something was bothering me. I could not figure it out. I went to the grocery store and decided to buy myself a treat of baked cheetos. The entire day I wanted to eat them....not uncontrolled binge like in the past but just steady need to eat. I was sabotaging myself and I couldn’t figure out. Something about being really cute again and fitting into shorter clothes scared the hell out of me. I have been trying to figure out what it is… First of all, it is such a foreign feeling…so much so that it felt uncomfortable and second, is the male reaction. My best guy friend of 5 years hit on me two weeks ago. It really bothered me bc he never has hit on me before and because now I feel like he sees me in the “sexual” way—what about our friendship??? In addition, I find guys hitting on me and giving me the time of day that didn’t use to. When I was fat I wanted guys to still see me as pretty and now that I have lost weight—I want them to see my personality and not just me as a sexual object. Does this make any sense? Now—how do I get out of the self sabotaging way and move past the uncomfortable-ness of this new foreign feeling and the male reaction to my outside and not me as a full person. By the way...I was up 6 lbs between yesetrday and today. I finished th4e bag of cheetos and had a frozen yogurt. WAY less bad than I would have been 2 years ago but still frustrating. I suspect part of the weight is all the sodium. I didn't eat enought o gain that much weight. ARG!! HELP! <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->__________________
  2. I ate a lot of Hummus, it is one of my favorite foods by itself. I also did Greek yogurt, refried Beans, mashed sweet potato, mashed banana with some Peanut Butter. I found that Gerber baby food tasted better than Beach Nut. I liked the roast chicken and roast beet. The little jars of Gerber (yes, baby food!) were easy and convenient because they were just the right portion. I also ate Tuna and Chicken as well as Krab salads I really enjoyed a scrambled egg atop mashed avocado, Mashed squash is tasty also, I put some organic vegetable broth on a plate and place the squash face down on the plate and microwave it for about 20 minutes...so delicious!

    Repeatedly overeating

My surgeon and nutritionist suggested low fat too, but I think as more of a "general rule". I mean, you have to be able to use your brain. They probably put things in absolutes in your instructions because they expect that most patients aren't going to read nutrition labels. But if you use your brain and see that the low fat version is full of sugar and has just as many calories as the low fat version, then there is no reason to choose the low fat version. I read labels. I eat low fat string cheese and low fat greek yogurt, because when I compare them to the full fat versions, they are better nutritionally all the way down the list. But that isn't the case for everything. Guidelines are good, but we have to be allowed to use our brains as well.

food and why I love/hate it.

I HATE those sweet shakes. I now use Gene Pro. Its 30g of flavorless protien in ONE tablespoon. You heard me right. Google it. I add it to my yogurt in the AM. The food thing gets easier. I started on pulled pork yesterday. Oh, I'm 7 weeks out. I'm eating meat, chicken, some pork, and I've made beef stew and ate it with no problem. Just have to chew well. I also measure out how much to eat. Don't push to hard. Eat to much or to fast, and the food comes back up, and you wind up "sliming", that is saliva that is foamy.

What To Eat Post Work Out?

My nut told me a yogurt and fruit would be good for after work out.

Stage IV Diet aka Real Food

I am almost 4 months out and can tolerate most everything that is okay to eat at this stage. Per my drs. instructions, I cannot add Pasta, rice, bread, potatoes, etc. until 6 months. I can do coconut and apples. I have a fav snack with greek yogurt, apples, unsweetened coconut, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds and pistachios. Granted, I am only eating 1/4 of an apple with each serving. The very first time I tried it, I had some issues. However, I waited a couple weeks and tried it again and didn't have any problems. I now eat that a couple times a week. I have also had pineapple, kiwi, all sorts of berries, watermelon, cantaloupe, and grapes. Because I focus on Protein, anytime I have something like that it is in very small quantities. I have not had any issues. I think the most important thing to realize is that everyone is different. What might cause an issue for me may be something that you don't have any problems with at all. Just test things in small quantities and see what happens. If you do have an issue with something, then wait a couple weeks and try it again. Good luck!
  8. I ate yogurt, cream of wheat, got homemade Soups from the grocery store, applesauce, drank 2 Protein drinks a day (Premier Protein 30gms) SF pudding, at that phase I wasn't really hungry. A little bit goes a long way. I spoiled myself with mashed potato and gravy from KFC. I couldn't deal with mashing things that have texture. I looked at baby food but it is so high in calories, carbs, sugars it's not worth it. Best of luck on your journey!

    mini update.

can you try greek yogurt, or even plain 1% milk has protein! every little bit helps
  10. Amie

    mini update.

Try drinking milk. I lived on milk for 3 weeks as it was my pre-opt diet. Try to put your vitamins on the kitchen counter so you see them all of the time, hopefully that will help you not forget. And yes you should try some different protein shakes and Greek yogurts. You can do this!!

    Breakfast

I make a smoothie with Greek yogurt, almond milk, 1/2 a banana and 1/2 cup on blueberries. Next I'm going to substitute pumpkin for the blueberries.
  12. I had my surgery on Nov 1 and I'm doing good, no pain just sore. Sometimes I get lightheaded and nut said I'm not getting in my protein. This is true but I can not tolerate protein shakes, I feel like I'm going to throw up. I also don't use sugar free products so I am limited on what I can have. I have unflavored protein powder (10 grams) I have been putting it in my cream soup and yogurt, which is only 30 grams a day. Does anyone have any suggestion on what else I can eat? I don't think I can go like this for another week. One positive thing is I have no hunger, its amazing. Thanks Janine
  13. I have little one too. We eat alot of chicken now. I didn't really freeze much. But I've got cheese sticks, yogurt, shaved black forest ham, Whisps, and vegetarian vegtable soup on hand all of the time.

  16. I was banded on January 12. So far, I've lost 18.5 lbs, 15 of them the first week! I haven't lost anything in about a week and its FRUSTRATING! I eat every 4 hours and about 1/2 cup of food for meals then maybe a yogurt or Protein shake as a snack. I exercise 5 days a week, on the treadmill for at least 30 minutes usually more like 40 minutes each time. I have to wait 8 weeks for my first fill which is scheduled for March 29th. Is this normal and is there anything else I should do?

    This Stinks To No End!!

Sorry to hear that! I think there are a few organic brands of lactose free milk, maybe check some of those out. I think in general lactose intolerant people can still eat cheese and yogurt, but there are exceptions! I think that would be a good one for your dr, to avoid another vomiting episode. Good luck!
  18. I'm only 10 days post op, so pretty close to you in the process but I've not had any troubles getting liquids down. I never felt full at all with liquids. I started adding yogurt in yesterday and it's the first I've noticed starting to feel a little "full" before finishing the cup. I can tell you I have a LOT of head cravings but no true hunger I don't think. That having been said, I'm frigging sick of liquids. Soo ready to move on to purees Monday. 19. Happy mothers day to all the sleeve mommy's and even the daddies who have to fill both roles. I am a bit upset this year as my husband has decided that he will not join us for any mothers day things so I now need to visit my mom and HIS mom alone with the kiddos and hopefully get a lil break in there myself but I well right? So the real question now that I vented is this... Can I have a taste or 2 of Greek frozen yogurt as the yogo factory just opened in my town and my oldest wants to treat me to that(using my money of course) ?

    Mothers Day Matters

As long as you aren't on the liquid diet phase I don't see why not. As a matter of fact I am just a bit over one month out and once a week I go to yoyo yogurt with my son and get 4 oz chocolate frozen yogurt. It is only 110 calories and in general I tend to be low on calories. I am learning how to live healthy with the occasional indulgence. If you don't allow yourself some of the stuff you want once in a while, it makes this just another "diet" not a lifestyle change. You are looking at the long term changes and frozen yogurt is a great alternative to a cheeseburger and fries or a pint of icecream. Keep up the good work!
  21. Here are my best tips: * Be patient with yourself until you have good restriction. Try to focus on healthy food and exercise rather than the scale during "bandster hell". It can be a frustrating time, but it doesn't last. * Once you're on regular foods, Snacks are my secret weapon. I make sure to always eat a small healthy snack mid-morning and mid-afternoon. That way I don't get too hungry and go crazy at meal times. A few almonds, some yogurt, string cheese, a piece of fruit, whatever. It helps more than anything else, because when I let myself get too hungry my judgment becomes impaired. Suddenly I'm "starving" and all I want is fast food. * I can't get solid food down in the morning, so I drink a Protein shake for Breakfast every day. I really like "Pure Protein" chocolate shakes from Trader Joe's (or other health food stores or online). They have 35 grams of protein and are pretty decent tasting in my opinion. * Fast food is my enemy. No matter what, I try to avoid it like death. Anything I make at home (no matter how unhealthy) is better than fast food. Fast food makes me gain weight, always. * Exercise helps me immensely with mood and motivation, in addition to just being all around wonderful for you. Strength training, especially, is great because muscle tissue burns more calories (all day long, even while you're sleeping) than regular tissue. Even if it's just sit-ups and wall push-ups at home, and walking around the block, exercise is terrific. * If you make a wrong turn, don't despair. Every day (every hour!) is a new chance to get up, brush yourself off, and get back on track. Perfectionistic, all-or-nothing thinking has been a liability for me. I will always make missteps. I just try to focus on getting back to the basics that work for me. Small healthy meals, small healthy snacks, lots of protein, lots of Water, go to the gym. Plenty of sleep, etc. Taking good care of myself is a new thing for me and it takes some practice to get consistently good at it. The reason I consider myself inspiring is that I have had a pretty hard time sticking to anything remotely considered a "diet." I try to eat healthy stuff, but I screw up all the time. I eat sweets. Fast food is my kryptonite. I don't get to the gym as often as I'd like. And yet I'm making slow, steady progress. I know for a fact that I never ever would have lost nearly 50 pounds without the band. I'm 4 pounds away from "onederland." My husband calls me "Skinny Bones Jones." I even feel a distinct improvement in my overall mood (I've suffered from debilitating depression my whole life). And the better things get, the more motivated I feel. I eat better because I don't need to "fix" crushing depression with food. I can get around better so I'm happier doing active things. It's like an upward spiral -- the better things get, the more I do to make them even better. I'm in this for the long haul. It's a good life. Best of luck to you.

  23. @@Shaunie I'm doing pretty good, still trying to figure this whole thing out. I definitely am overdoing it physically at times because we just moved into our dream house and I just want to unpack and make it my own, but I just don't want to cause problems with my incisions and new stomach. From what I gather, everyone has different post op eating instructions. Mine is to get in 56 ounces of Fluid and 30g Protein. I am really limited on my eating to broth, pureed Soup (non cream based) and yogurt. The yogurt...whoa, I feel it going down into my stomach, not a great feeling yet! How about you, how are you?

    The Soft Solids Effect

honestly I would not waste stomach space on things like potatoes at this point. Maybe try a tiny bite of something high protein and soft, like refried beans, tofu, Greek yogurt, or cottage cheese.

    The Soft Solids Effect

veggies, even cooked veggies, can be tough to digest. try things that are easier... cottage cheese, yogurt, soft cooked eggs. even just drink milk. fyi, at 13 months post op i cant eat 5 ounces protein! 2-3 at most.
