How often is it okay to eat?

@@_Kate_ - I'm still allowed to drink Protein drinks, yes, though the NUT does want me weaned off of them when I'm able to eat actual food since she explained drinking the shakes despite their high protein won't actually continue to register in your brain that you've eaten. Actually being able to still get through a shake without feeling nauseous is a totally different matter.. And I've also been told the premier shakes don't count towards my fluids because they aren't a clear liquid. As opposed to trying one of the Isopure drinks. @@Folly - So as I'm able to eat more, I'll be able to go longer without getting hungry. Makes sense! Thanks! @ - My body feels like it's physically starting to reject the Protein Shakes and smoothies I make... I can't drink them without feeling ill now. So I drink my Water and stick to soft foods and yogurt. @@Sharon1964 - I could understand doing it this way when I can eat more, but I've figured out my body's difference between head and real hunger and right now I'm feeling real hunger every two hours. Though I do hope to get to this eating pattern when I'm able. Thank you! @@AngelaWilliamsMD - I'm glad I'm not alone in this. I'm still eating less than 500 calories a day even with high protein micro-meals, and I know I'm at that phase where my body may be going through a stall and/or is readjusting to actually getting real food instead of straight up liquids. @@Inner Surfer Girl - Like I mentioned earlier, my NUT told me the shakes don't count towards the Fluid goal anymore since they aren't a clear liquid.. As it is, I can get about 40oz of water in and up to about 40~50g of protein altogether in a good day. Sans the protein shakes. Do you think that's still okay? @@Niki15 - I was trying to do something like this, but now that it takes me SO long to get through a Protein Shake because they don't make me feel well, I believe that's why I've supplemented with the high protein micro-meals every few hours instead (varying by class schedule during the week). Thanks for all of the replies so far!

Sitting here eating my yogurt and thinking about you guys. I miss you! I'd love to say I'm at goal weight and stuck to my plan. However, that's not the case. I've been on a six month roller coaster, emotionally and physically. Today, and I'm only doing a day at a time, I'm on plan. How are you guys? Anybody need some accountability? I could sure use some! @@JustWatchMe - how did the summer internship go for your daughter? @@bacon - how's your father? @@punkinvine - have thing settled down in your world? @@2babutterfly - is school back in full swing?

    Go-to sleevey snack

Greek yogurt, lunchmeat, string cheese, hard boiled eggs (though sometimes I still have trouble with them at 9 months out)...sometimes I like to get the frozen grilled chicken chunks and by the time I'm ready for them, they're thawed. Those are okay to just eat if you can't heat them up. Premier isn't terrible warm, though

    Go-to sleevey snack

Get a small lunch bag and keep an ice pack in it with a protein shake, yogurt, cheese, ect... I go to college and I there from 8:15am -4:00 pm so I have to bring stuff with me. I just keep my lunch bag in my backpack or messenger bag. Being prepared is key!

Over a year out: How much can you eat?

I'm almost 13 months post-op. My meal-time volume limit is is 3/4 to 1 cup of food. My dense (meat) Protein limit is 3-4 ounces. I always try to eat that (or most of it) first. Makes a big difference! In order to get in all the calories I need to stop losing, I am now eating more Snacks than I once did. I try to include some protein in those snacks, e.g., cheese, yogurt.

  7. So tomorrow is my three month mark and I'm down a little over 30 pounds. We went grocery shopping tonight and I looked for new ideas and wanted to check to see what others do and if what I do is good:). I purchased some to go tuna packets, turkey meatballs with wild rice, deli fresh turkey meat, string cheese, thin sliced deli cheese-45 Cals, cottage cheese, 100 cal Greek yogurt, cucumbers and salad stuff...I bought light Italian dressing as I wasn't sure what to put on my salad. A typical day for me is a protein shake for breakfast, deli turkey, cheese and mustard with maybe a few veggies for lunch, string cheese after work/before dinner, meat with veggies for dinner and sometimes i do some yogurt with almonds or cottage cheese for night time snack-is this a normal routine? Thanks for the advice:)

I cook everything from scratch. My fav is to use really good fruit in season because then you don't need to add sugar. I don't really use recipes. You could try adding a little yogurt to the mix to help soften them.

Sept date I am all set

@@dragonfly78 glad to hear about the same time frame we are on. I juust now openedd new nutribullet and what an amazing device! Several people asking me about what I was told to puree. Basically anything but was told it should be high protein (eggs, greek yogurt, beans, cottage cheese, lentils) The lentil stuff is from Costco and yum! I was told to puree the scrambled eggs and that was terrible. I read some where else just to scramble the eggs and undercook them and that was better. Cottage cheese from Cost co is pretty runny so haven't pureed that or Greek yogurt, tomorrow will try pureed chicken and broth. Yes I have been eating pureed food since day 2 in the hospital. I've also used applesauce to get some of my meds down. I am a total worrywart but have been pleasantly surprised that it's been easier than I thought it would be. It's great not needing to eat much and having little hunger

My typical weekday looks like this: 6am: Premier shake 30 g of Protein 9am: egg (soft boiled) + 2oz of plain fat free yogurt (Chobani/Fage) 22g of protein 12:00 3 slices of turkey breast deli meat 12 - 13 g of protein. 2:30pm cheese stick 6g of protein 1/3 Peach 7pm I'll have a bite or two of whatever protein we're having and a spoonful of veggies. I have about 5 16.9 oz of Water a day, sometimes a cup of tea, which is around 16oz. My doctor wants me to have 60g of protein a day.
  12. August 11th so today is day 30 and I can transition from pureed foods to soft foods. Eating 80 grams of Protein a day and about 800 calories right now. Lost 22 pounds pre-op but only 13 in the 30 days of post-op. No idea why. I've been following the program and feeling really good. Just stuck at this weight for eight days now. Frustration. I've been eating mostly yogurt and Protein shakes, some eggs, some pureed meat with light mayo, a little fruit with no skins and some cooked carrots. Not sure what to start up on next for the "soft food" phase. Add more vegetables I suppose. I can handle more than the 3 ounces I'm supposed to have (unfortunately) but haven't been abusing that. Oh well, time will tell.

    Calories per day?

When I was on liquid and soft food I mostly ate: Protein shakes, protein pudding, liquid beverage concentrate with protein, protein Soup, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans, tuna, soft fish (like salmon and tilapia), melted cheese on everything!, etc. I tried to make sure almost everything had protein but also had no sugar added diced peaches, pears, and applesauce, as well as V8, and soft vegetables like green beans and squash. For protein shakes I like: Premier Protein, GNC Lean 25, ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates, and Syntrax nectar. My surgeon said that there is no physical reason someone couldn't drink 3 premier protein shakes (90 grams protein) the day after surgery, so I just committed to getting it all in even if that meant not going to sleep until I had reached my goal. If your protein goal is 60-80 grams, I would recommend working very hard to get in at least 80 grams every day. I think you will feel better and it will help with healing and weight loss. Plan out meals and Snacks of no more than 20-25 grams of protein each time for the day. Keep in mind that early out those meals and snacks may sort of run together because you are going to be sipping and eating something all day. Plus, the more you can include protein in your fluids, the easier it will be to reach both your protein and 64 oz Fluid goals. Good luck and just keep working at it. And make sure you record everything because if you are like me, I can't remember what I ate or drank 10 minutes ago!
  14. I love what some of the other posters here have said, and I agree with them. Having food at the absolute center of our lives is what got us here in the first place, and is what has kept us obese. My surgery is on Sept. 11, so I'm only a few days away as well. I understand your feelings. In my family, I have always been known for my cooking, both of meals and baking. I love cooking and making great tasting food for my family and friends. One thing to consider, however, is that all of your cooking skills don't just have to go away. As a really good cook, you know a number of techniques that can be just as valuable post-surgery. Put that knowledge to good use developing new ways of cooking that are more healthy, flavorful, and eye-catching. Consider some of the alternatives: nonfat greek yogurt instead of mayo, pureed cooked cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes, small turkey sandwiches with cucumber slices instead of bread, etc. There are lots of places out there with great ideas that you can adapt. One place to look is http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/. She has great ideas. I hope you can see that we can still enjoy our craft, we just have to change the focus from high-fat, high-carb, large quantities, to a more healthy style. And remember that food, while important, is not the center of our lives anymore. We should be defined by more than the food we make or consume.

Maybe try taking in a little more protein lopez1628?? thankfully, I haven't had cravings...one friend on here said Greek plain yogurt and mix in a little sugar free strawberry cheesecake pudding powder...she says it's great! Once I can tolerate thicker substances, I'm going to try!! stay strong!
  16. Hi, I was sleeved on 26 August . I am down 18 lbs. I am on a puréed diet but have had some pineapple today though I didn't swallow the pulp. Mostly soups and porridge and yogurt and I even tried a scramble egg, more like a spoon full. Gas is giving me pains but I am trying to walk as much as I can which is twice a day around my park. Say 45 mins of walking.
  17. Are you keeping a food diary? I recommend people try it for at least 6 mths - 1 year. There are folks like me who always need a diary and others who do well without after a while. You have to plan you meals AND your Snacks. The good thing with a food diary is after you plan your meals, you then work your snack in. An occasional bite sized snicker won't kill you. A daily routine of them will. Especially if you are eating them when you haven't met your nutrition goals for the day. What works for me is first thing every morning I plan my food for the day. I think plan and afternoon snack. Sometimes I need it, sometimes I don't. Try the usual things: drinking Water, doing something physical. If you are then still hungry and not just having head hunger or bad habits creeping back then get a nutritious snack. I am one of those people who don't allow anything in the house I will binge on. It's a good habit to have. Some healthy snack ideas: 1 ounce of nuts - I buy single serving packs of pistachios, almonds or cashews. I ONLY buy one pack at a time because I will binge. Than means if nuts are the snack for the day, I have to go to the store and buy them. Once at the store, I make myself walk around the store before checking out. That way I get in a few steps and I feel like I worked for my snack. 4 ounces of yogurt, with chocolate Protein powder mixed in. I mix it, and put it in the freezer until it gets a pudding consistency. I also occasionally add a tablespoon of almond butter for that candy bar chocolate/peanut taste. ½ an orange Oatmeal/vanilla yogurt parfait. You can also add a few nuts and berries. oatmeal is good Fiber & protein and really filling. You can make this overnight and have it for Breakfast. I buy plain rolled oats with none of the sugars and fillers that the prepackaged stuff has. cheese and meat cubes. 1 ounce of each. Again, high protein and good fat. It will fill you and not derail your WLS efforts. If you still love snickers, save that for your once month or once a week treat. If you meet all your protein goals and you meet all your water goals then allow yourself one bite sized treat. The holiday's are coming up. if you don;t get a handle on this now, you'll really have difficulty. If your program has them, stop into a few support group sessions. Nearly a year out, I still stop in on mine from time to time. In fact I'm trying to figure out when I can make one this month. It's a good place to go for an in person tune up.

  19. I am so glad that you just posted that because I was thinking the same thing. I talked with the nutritionist and she said I should be eating sugar free pudding sugar-free Jell-O sugar-free yogurt and sugar-free drinks. I'm the type of person that would rather juice my own juice make a smoothie in my vita mix it with some protein powder and make some homemade soups. I get the worst heartburn when I drink those prepackaged shakes. I am three weeks out tomorrow what should my daily diet look like
  20. Hi tinatina. Your Drs in the USA (I'm assuming that's where you are from) seem to take things very slow. In Australia, I was on a purée diet from 3 days post op and can have yogurts, custards, purée casseroles. I'm only having about 10 teaspoons to a meal but I can't imagine still being on only shakes. One tip if you want to stick only to them - try blending them with ice. I found a cold frothy shake a nice alternative. If you want to bend a little, my current breakfast shake at 12 days post op is the protein shake powder with a banana and some berries, some yogurt and milk. And ice. Yummy! Makes enough for breakfast and morning tea! Have you tried a protein soup?? Good luck! Great advice Becca!!

    Numbers....

@@nomilktoday I have always loved the powder Protein mixed with Water and after surgery I had three a day, Soup with added protein, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt etc etc. Once I was on pureed foods, I still had the Protein drinks every day. Now I am on 2 a day, one for Breakfast and one before bed. That’s 50g in itself. Otherwise I eat, for lunch and for dinner plus 2 Snacks, a mix of the following (weights can vary depending on what I have had or plan to have the rest of the day): Roasted chicken breast 3oz: 24g protein 2 poached eggs: 15g protein 0% cottage cheese 100g: 10.2g protein Tuna Steak 2.5 oz.: 21g protein Fat free Greek yogurt 100g: 10.3g protein Coconut protein drink: 19g protein Salmon 3 oz.: 16g protein Homemade Beef meatballs 100 g.: (no bread) 33g protein Medium skinny latte: 11g protein Mini light baby bel: 5g protein Grilled pork chop 2oz.: 12g protein Syntrax nectar drinks: 23g protein King Prawns 100g: 15g protein I still use unflavoured protein mix as well and as soon as I can a more varied diet ill ditch it. At your stage post op I would drink Syntrax Nectar, the protein drinks and add unflavoured protein to Soups. Plus cottage cheese and farg greek yogurt. I added unflavoured protein to yogurt once and it was disgusting lol. Hope this helps and congratlations on the surgery
  22. It all depends on your surgeon though. I am currently in my pre-op diet, and I am only allowed clear liquids and Protein drinks, no solid food whatsoever. No pudding, no pickles, no applesauce, just clear liquids. I have been trying Miso soup (with all of the tofu and other stuff strained out), which has been very tasty (I really like Japanese food). I have also tried chicken broth with Old Bay seasoning added, which is very yummy (nice spiciness to it). SF Jello and SF popsicles, of course. I don't just stick with one Protein Drink, I try different ones to give me some variety (I use Premier Protein and Isopure right now). For me, after surgery (which is this Friday, 9/11) when I get home I will be on "full liquids" for two weeks, which will include milk, blended Soups (like cream of tomato), and yogurt. I can hardly wait!

    Running my first half/full marathon

When I run a half I eat overnight oats (oats, Greek yogurt, milk and peanut butter al mixed together and put in the fridge the night before) about 90 min before the start. I then have a shot blok every 2-3 miles to keep a constant stream of energy (a serving is 3 bloks but they make me sick if I try to have 3 at one time). I also alternate water and Gatorade/powerade but really try to make sure I drink a bunch. Good luck!

Oh, I have one more tip, the Greek yogurt-plain- is LOADED with protein but not so much on flavor.. I mix a little SF cheesecake pudding powder in it and voila girl, you're eating cheesecake!!! And no, mine didn't have plain but the piña colada is pretty plain. Tastes just like plain coconut water
  25. My doctor told me to try milk of magnesia and it helped within 1 or 2 hrs since I have been regular. Of course fluids and activity helps. But i think yogurt also helps. Hope u feel better. Ask your doctor for what to take.
