  1. Hi all - I had my surgery on March 31 and have no fill in my band. When I switched to solid food things were going well. I can eat everything with no problems (no PB, no sliming, no vomiting) I do eat a lot less and try to stay on the healthy side. In the last few days however, I am eating a LOT more and craving the foods I used to eat. I have my first fill scheduled for 4/29 and don't quite know what to expect afterwards. I understand the process, as I had an unfill the day after surgery (3 cc to none.) But what will happen after? Will I have to fight the horrible gas bubbles and pain I had at 3 cc post-op? Will it keep my appetite more in control? I haven't lost anything this week, but have lost 34 pounds since surgery so I can't complain...but I'm just so frustrated to feel like I may be failing my band.

    Eating Disorder

Man, I really can relate to so much of this. I do a "chew and spit" thing all the time, too. Not only do I not enjoy food but the process of planning what to eat or forcing myself to eat is extremely anxiety-inducing for me, too. I didn't have all of these complications you had to deal with, but from day 1 I've had a really (irrational) intense worry that my new stomach isn't strong or that if I get something stuck it will just tear or explode... things that don't even really make sense or have any chance of actually happening. I feel much, much better when I restrict my calories. Maybe not physically. But mentally, on the days I have some reason (whether real or invented) to greatly restrict my calories, I feel like I'm doing well. The days I actually eat 1000-1200 calories - I've only had two of these days - I feel absolutely horrible and the urge to drink nothing but a Protein shake or two the next day is almost unbearable. The fact that I do lose more when I starve and stall or gain when I eat enough, coupled with how good my bloodwork still looks, just reaffirms my positive reaction to not eating enough and my anxiety and self-criticizing just pushes me further away from actual physical health. I'm in therapy too. Let's hope we both kick these problems in the ass in the end.

    Intimidating

MK, It took me a LONG time to get up my nerve to try the elliptical. Then I could only do about 3 minutes before I thought I'd pass out. I tried the one at my community center and did 15 minutes with no problems. The second one is about worn out, so no resistance and easier to make it move, but it helped me figure out the motion that I'm looking for on the one at the gym.
  4. Hey, just read your post. How in the world are you getting in around 1000 calories?? I feel like I'm drinking all day and I'm getting in around 500-600. Each protein drink is 110, so I'm having 3 a day, chicken broth, crystal light, water, which hardly have any calories at all.
  5. Im 12 days post op rny and I have not lost any weight for 5 days... im hiting my protein and water goal and I exercise (focused) for at least 30 min a day (the last 2 days I've been doing an hour) the only thing that comes to mind that could be why im stuck already is that my period is about to come in and ive always gained before it starts. Anyone gone thru something similar♡♡ Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. I threw up violently the first 3 days after surgery and I asked the dr that same question and they told me to not worry about that , that it did not cause leaks

    Why am I so nervous?

I'm 5 weeks out of surgery. I can tell you that the anxiety before hand is probably the second worse thing about this whole thing. The first worst is Clear Liquids - pre op post op - it sucks. However - all of those things are temporary. Keep in mind that you are choosing to do this and that is your must successful decision ever! You've just started on this road and you have the rest of your life to go..don't beat yourself up over the bad days (ESP pre op). I think the bad days keep you in check for why you are doing this in the first place. Stay strong - you've for this!

    Why am I so nervous?

Sure, I felt that way. I started reading everything I could get my hands on about sleeve surgery. There are lots of books on Amazon written by other sleevers. By the time of my surgery, I knew exactly what I was getting myself into. Best decision I ever made. Nearly 3 months out, 47 lbs lost, co-morbidities resolved, and I feel fabulous! Good luck on your journey. It's going to be amazing!
  9. Had an infection took antibitics for a week was fine

    Starting to Freak Out (Hair)

I lost a lot of hair from months 3-5. Judging from the diameter of my pony tail I would say 40-50% of the volume. But, literally no one can tell, unless I pull my hair back and the loss at my hairline and temples becomes obvious. And everyone will be so amazed at how good you look from your weight loss, they won't even notice your hair.

    First Fill?

I just had my first fill last week and had 2.8 cc's put in and my doctor also uses Floro under xray to watch the flow. I still don't feel much restriction, so I can get another fill in 4 weeks. I appreciate that the doctor does this slowly because I would hate to be too tight and get stuck. Good luck!
  12. I haven't stalled, but I slowed tremendously and although I have had a 5# loss in one week my average is quite a bit closer to 2.5#. My lowest loss was around 1.5#. I agree though, follow the rules and you will be fine, stall or not.

    Home-made Wendy's Chili

Tonight I ended up making a single serving size of chili. I wasn't sure exactly how it would come out, but it wasn't bad at all! I'm a single person, so it's tough to find recipes for just one to make. I'm sure you could multiply the ingredients to size it up if needed. 4 oz lean ground beef (I used 96/4 Meijer brand angus beef that I found on sale a week or two ago) 1/4 cup Ragu Old World Style Sweet Tomato Basil Pasta sauce 2 ounces left over chicken Soup sans chicken (chicken broth, diced onions, diced tomatoes, diced bell peppers - green, red, yellow and orange that was part of my crockpot chicken soup that I made a couple of days ago - but I didn't cut up the chicken, so it was without chicken) 1/4 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp pepper 1/4 tsp Mrs. Dash salt-free fiesta lime spice 1/4 cup shredded low-fat cheddar cheese Brown the ground beef, add in the pasta sauce and chicken broth with veggies. Let it simmer for a while and then add the spices. Continue simmering until liquid is reduced to about 1/2 of original. Serve in a bowl and top with the cheddar cheese. I'm sure you could substitute any meat for the ground beef. But I wouldn't use anything that would have more fat.
  14. Wow I can not believe my surgery is less than two weeks away twelve days to be exact.... I think I am starting to get nervous. I been trying to figure out everything I will need but I am at a stand still. I need help with the most essential things that I will need pre-op and post-op. I really want to be prepared. I don't want to go in this and no have everything I need because I will not have anyone to help after my surgery to go the store and what not. PLEASE HELP!!!!!
  15. Alright so I hate having to post about this because other than this one pesky vitamin, I've had no issues. See, I take the vitamin patches. I take the multivitamin with has 1000mcg of B12 already in it. On top of that I take the B12 patch, which has another 1000mcg in it. In July for my year bloodwork, my tests came back to where my B12 was super close to being deficient. I'll post an image of my results below for each test. After those results, my PCP started having me come in to get an additional B12 shot every month. I've had 3 months of that. Then, as you can see, results from the other day come in. While it's gone up a bit, she's still concerned enough that it's on the lower end to have me still come in every 2 months for a shot. Here's my thing... with my supplements, that's 33,334% of the daily value. On top of the foods I eat, and THEN the shot every month. It almost seems like my body isn't absorbing the vitamin. What the crap? I already sent my PCP a message asking clarifying questions and expressing my concern to her wondering if anything else could be contributing to this, so I'll see Monday her response. My question is, has anyone else dealt with an issue with their B12 post-op? I know thyroid issues or anemia can cause/effect it, was this the case for you? Or was it something else? My results:

    Stalling....[emoji20]

Sounds very similar to me (RNY 1/26). On another thread they reminded folks that a) different people lose differently and the lighter you are to begin with the slower it will go. Two pounds a week CONSISTENTLY without backsliding will still be a blessing imho.
  19. 3.5 weeks out and I've been hungry almost the whole time. It's a different feeling of hunger but it's definitely physical and not "head" hunger. I ignore it for the most part, and keep drinking. I was really hoping it would go away, like I've heard.
  20. Has anyone gone into this operation already diagnosed with the heparin allergy? I've had a blood clot and been diagnosed and it seems to be throwing my surgeon a curve. He hasn't decided how to handle yet and I'm a due to be scheduled in a few weeks. This is making me wonder if I should do it at all.
  21. It might make sense in your mind to take 2 100% vitamins, but if you do, don't take them together, certain vitamins in some forms are not bio available easily, I have heard shaklee is great, I ended up purchasing a liquid vitamin from Nashua Nutirition, I take a brand called Bell, Liquid multi vitamin complex, I also got bariatric advantage calcium citrate carmel chews and Celebrate brand B-12 sublinguals. I have no problem taking them everyday. I was self pay in Mexico, so i did not get a lot fo direction as far as what brands they recommend etc, but I will be having my blood work done this week probably, and will know if I am deficient in anything then.

Question about amount of weight loss

My surgeon is scary, he wanted to take down 100% of my excess weight (110 lbs) in 6 months!!! I guess I'm doing ok for the first month (I've lost 18.48 lbs - 3 weeks out) but now it's getting slower and slower, not sure if I can lose 10 lbs next month. :-(

    Sit ups

Hi lalaredd, you and I aren't far from each other; I am in Sterling. I started ab exercises somewhere between six and seven weeks post-op. I started slow with crunches and leg lifts etc. and added a few more reps each night.

    Comfort eating crisis!

My husband had to have open heart surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota a couple of weeks ago. I was VERY worried about how this would effect my weight. My triggers for eating have always been boredom and stress. I was going to have a lot of both. I started buying sugar free gum and breath mints. I made sure I had a couple bottles of water to drink in the car. The nervous eating was taken care of by the gum and mints. To my amazement, I actually lost weight over the week we were in the hospital. I made a point of getting a walk in everyday, but other than that did not get any other exercise. This is a very stressful time for you and your family. Take some time to take care of yourself.

Oh hunny I'm there too right now n was banded on Jan 2nd. I've been at 219-220 for 3 weeks now n have totally upped my exsersize. It's verry frustrating but I'm wondering if it has to do with loosing weight so fast at first. Idk if that's the case but my cloths does feel looser. We'll get there as long as we keep moving in the right direction, exsersizeing n eating the right foods.
