    Not losing weight after sleeve

Oh goodness. I feel you! Lost 15 lbs to start and then it sloooooooowed! I was completely frustrated but decided my body needed to adjust and I would not watch the scale. Best decision ever. At three weeks post op had my BMI checked at the gym- down 5 points! But the scale really wasn't moving. That said, I've dropped another 6 pounds this week. My nut said everyone is different. May not see a move then a week later wake up 10 lbs less. Keep rocking this!

    Pre-Op

I've done all my pre requisites and started a diet to lose 14lbs before surgery. I'm down 10 so far and hoping for a date soon! We sound like we're in the same boat!! P.S. I LOVE your shirt!

TY So much for your helpful information...walking right now kills my knees and thighs. But I will try 5-10 minutes a few times a day.

    what can be digested?

I have had 3 fills totaling 3.5cc. I had my surgery on 12/30/09. My last .5ccs was on 05/19/09. I find myself being unable to digest more foods such as bread, tuna, salmon, and beef. Since I have not lost anymore since my last fill I feel I may need another adjustment. I was advised to come in every six weeks if I am not losing 1-2 pounds a week. I am just nervous that soon I won't be able to eat not much other than pureed food. Is this what I have to look forward to? I am missing something. I even have that uncomfortable feeling like something is stuck in my throat when I drink something too fast. Any advice will be appreciated.
  5. I am soo excited. I am doing it. I am a mother of 5 ( ages 11,9,5 and twin 10-month-olds) amazing boys who deserve a mother who will be able to keep up with them when they are older :-). I lost 48lbs since march 21, 2016 but now it is sooo hard to keep on this liquid diet. I am not going to beat myself up over this but I would like some nonjudgmental advice from experienced sleevers. I know I have shrunk my liver and all my bloodwork is good. I will continue to try to stick to it.

Cut carbs, now I can't sleep?

Hi there, I got sleeved in Manhattan on 8/5. Exactly 3 weeks ago. I have recovered so quickly, it is almost ridiculous. I have been able to eat everything, love the sensation of getting full and leaving food in my plate. This had never happened before in my entire life. But I am having 2 major issues, number one is insomnia (despite keeping active during the day--I go for long walks or cycle in the afternoons), My insomnia leads to late night eating. I have eaten nuts and yogurt, feeling very guilty. As a result my weight loss has slowed down. I have only lost 10 lb since my surgery (I'm 5.8" and weighed 258.5 on day of surgery. BMI 38). I had an appointment with my surgeon 2 days ago. She said my weight loss was on target and there was nothing to worry about. She advised me to eat 4 smaller meals to make room for my late night cravings. But she did advise me to seek help for my sleep issues with my primary care physician. My second issue is that Soup and pureed foods, like pureed bananas do not make me full. Few nights ago I had 14 oz of lentil soup and was still hungry. I had another 6 oz afterwards. So total of 20 oz of soup! My surgeon said this was most unusual and that I should stick to solid Proteins instead as they DO infact make me feel really full. She also advised me to have my Protein shake late at night. Love to have your feedback!
  7. Have any of my fellow July 09 bandster's considered PS? I had a consultation in Las Vegas (at the Las Vegas Meet and Greet organized by the you tube weight loss community)this past Feb with a surgeon from California who was there giving a talk on surgery after weight loss. I submitted for a abdominoplasty, breast lift and augmentation. They declined the breast lift and aug as cosmetic but, approved the tummy tuck...which is definately my biggest issue. My surgery date is Oct 27, 2010 in Beverly Hills, CA with Dr. J. Timothy Katzen. Super excited and need to use these next 7 weeks to focus on losing 10 - 12lbs. In, other news, I had a complete unfill on July 1, 2010 due to a horrible stuck episode caused by terrible reflux. Since, my unfil I have lost about 6 lbs and my doc doesn't think I need a fill and he's right I don't. I need to exercise, decrease the carbs and drink more Water. The protonix has been a lifesaver, I occassionally have a little heartburn but, a tums or two does the trick. I'll keep you guys posted on the PS countdown and continued success everyone :blushing:

    Does everybody do this?

What? This is the second post i see about that! This is unreal! That would make the lap band the most annoying , torturing thing. My doctor is known to be very strict with his instructions and he is the once who installs the most lap bands in canada, he says to eat fast, in 10 minutes to feel full. I know that is different, but he says, and i have tested it, he says that when eating fast, it hits ur hunger nerves in your stomac to your brain, and you fool your brain! It works for every one of his successful patient ive talked to. Also, he is very tough with fills, he does not like to fill the bands a lot, only when hungry during meals, he does not want his patients to block on food and vomit after and slipping the bands. As for drinking, he said drinking right after is no problem, but after the meal wait 1h30 min. I think the 10 min thing is the most ridicoulous thing ive ever heard! Imagine the catastrophe:)

    Does everybody do this?

Your surgeon is crazy. Here's what mine says: 1. Wait 15 minutes after drinking before you eat. Don't drink until an hour after you eat. 2. Don't spend more than 20 minutes on one meal. Chew, chew, chew. When you think you're done chew some more. 3. Take toddler sized bites (Mine actually says the size of a pencil eraser but it would take a year to eat at that rate). Unless your pouch is the size of my fingernail, there is no reason you need to wait 10 minutes between bites. Maybe a minute at the most. I remember you posted about this before...who is your surgeon?
  10. It was pretty quick and they had me drink barium and did an xray to see the restriction. They said it looks great. I have 2.7cc in my 10 cc band. I have to do liquids for two days than one day of mushies. I get to go back in 2-4 weeks for fill #2. So far, so good.
  11. 120inside- I was banded Nov 9th and I feel the same way as you, but right now since we eat such small amounts( 2-3oz) I was told to eat every few hours. It is working pretty well for me. But I have noticed if I eat more or fast i get a stomach ache too! 10 lbs lost in 7 days 212/202/140

    Silly Question

My doctor said surgery was day one. I was scheduled for a 11:00 surgery which due to complications from the 10:00 surgery I was pushed out to 4:30. Buy the time they got me to my room all I did was sleep until day 2.

so how much have u lost so far...?

Tiffanye: How much weight have you lost? If you are not chewing you might not be tight enough to lose weight. PB is not the greatest, but it is due to not taking small bites, kind of a learning curve that makes you eat the way you should with the band. If you are not taking small bites you may not be tight enough to have the band work for you. I eat about 800-900 calories a day and have am loosing anywhere frmm 6-10 pounds 9 months out. Each case is different but just curious how much weight you have lost.

Did anyone lose weight 6 weeks post op?

I was banded on 10/21 and I've lost about 10. I'm glad I saw this thread-- I was just wondering what the average was, since I'm on freaking 600 calories a day--I should hope I'm losing weight LOL! I hope time goes faster until I get my first fill in December! I would love to be down 30 lbs come Christmas, but I'm not even sure what's realistic because I know everyone is so different! Good luck to everyone!

19 And Trying To Figure It All Out

I am 16 and had my surgery on 10/19/12 (9 days ago). I have already lost 22 pounds! My mom got the lap band 8 years ago, and has lost (and kept off) 150 pounds! I was tired of struggling with my weight, and I knew this was one of the best things I could have done for myself. Yes, I am young, but I have my mom who can guide me through living with the lap band. So far, it's been nothing, but a blessing! Good luck on getting yours(-:

Will Someone Kick my Ass, Please?

well, if the protien shakes are getting a little much (because after two weeks of them I couldn't hardly stomach mine anymore), I did find a site with some samples of other stuff. I got my order today but didn't try anything yet. Thought I would have some Protein for Breakfast tomorrow. There were tons more flavors than those stupid shakes come in. Hopefully they aren't as thick. When I get my protein I stay full longer. I'm not GREAT at getting it in though. In my job I don't seem to be able to do that OR the amount of Water. I just forget to drink. All of a sudden it's noon and I haven't had even 10 oz yet. That is what is frustrating me. Keep getting your protein. Hopefully that will help. I know that at this point I just want to CHEW something. I miss chewing. I LOVE chewing. I haven't been perfect on my post-op because I just have to chew sometimes....and I can't spit it out after I've chewed it! Learn fro what triggered this response and try to keep yourself out of that situation again. Sometimes easier said than done, but if you don't put yourself in the position, you may find it not nearly as difficult to resist. Let us know how you're doing. Steph
  17. It's been one week for me as well. I started feeling better on Friday. Went out shopping, grocery store, etc. and then crashed on Saturday. I am going to go to work for a few hours today. I only work part time but will start my three days a week on Wed. No nausea. I was so expecting it because I puked all through my three pregnancies for nine months. I am sooooo tired of my liquid diet. I am literally hungry all the time. I'm behaving because I don't want to hurt anything. However, I can't wait to start on mushy foods next Monday. At this point I would love to eat oatmeal, fish, well let's face it, anything. A week ago I couldn't have imagined I would be craving healthy foods. I have my post op appt on Friday so I am hoping he puts me on soft foods then. Easter was difficult. I brought my broth and watched my family enjoy their ham, potatoes, etc. The fun part was when my dad brought out my favorite cheesecake from costco. If looks could kill.... My biggest obstacle, besides hunger is my 8 month old. Not being able to pick her up has been impossible. My husband, mother and even my 4 and 6 year old have been helping with that. The 4 year old is frightening though, and is no longer allowed to pick her up. Tomorrow no one will be here with me, my 6 year old is back at school so I will have no choice but to pick her up. Unfortunately, she weighs 19 pounds. I am really going to be careful and hope nothing slips. It's not the pain or anything, I'm really not sore anymore, just a little twinge here and there. My main concern is not causing any problems with my new lapband. Just wondering what everyone's lifting limitations are? Take care, Jessyca
  18. Gosh, I am so happy right now. I'm so glad I decided to do this, especially now. I'm 25 years old, and I've been overweight since age 17. I was always thin as a kid and a teenager (I even suffered from anxiety that led to anorexia at age 10). Who would have thought that a once anorexic person could be obese? I packed on a whopping 50 pounds in only 3 months during my Senior year of high school because I was put on oral steroids for sinus issues. I went from a size 6 in pants, to a size 12. I was mortified, but I couldn't stop eating. My highest weight was 255, while I was only 125 at age 15. That means I put on 130 pounds in 10 years. I was diagnosed with Pseudotumor cerebri at age 20, even though the symptoms started at age 17; obese women are most at risk of getting it. Pseudotumor cerebri controlled my life. I was having visual obscurations (even though my vision is 20/15), I would get severe migraines that made me vomit, and I basically slept my life away from feeling so fatigued. After losing 60 pounds, I am no longer having visual problems or migraines. It's so much easier to get out of bed in the morning. I used to sleep until 2 p.m. on the weekends. This past weekend, I was up by 9:30 a.m.! I was like, "Is this clock right?!" Ha! I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea earlier this year (I stopped breathing in my sleep over 30 times per hour). I had already decided to get a Sleeve before I found out about the sleep apnea, because I was miserable carrying all this weight on a 5'2'' frame. I recently bought myself a Fitbit after my surgery as a treat to myself, and to keep up with my walking. I noticed it has a sleep feature that records when you're awake, asleep, and restless. I looked through my old sleeping records and matched them with this month, and I can see a HUGE difference. I was only getting maybe 1-2 hours of restful sleep each night. Now, I am getting at least 6 hours of restful sleep. I know it will improve as I lose more weight. This surgery has given me my life back.
  19. How's your life changed since surgery? How many of you have gone from a 5 to a 10? Haha. How has your confidence changed? Your dating life? The looks? Opportunities? I want to hear all the changes. It gets me excited and makes me feel amazing hearing all the success stories. I can't believe I'm living in my own success story. Too much or too little?

1300 calories is maintenance level for a lot of us. I can maintain on 1700 calories, but that seems to be on the high end for female bariatric patients. I just checked my records, and at 10 months out I was averaging 1000 kcal/day. Maybe try eating closer to the bottom end of your current range for awhile (1000 kcal) and see if you start losing again. If you're walking 4-4.5 miles a day, than you're probably about as active as I was, so that part should be OK.

    When doctor says rest.. REST

I agree totally. Rest while you can...take it easy in anything you do. I went back to work 6 days after surgery and it was really hard. No one knew what I had done. If you have the option to lay around and take it easy do so. Don't over do it with anything. I am almost six weeks out and I still am not lifting anything over 10 pounds. It just isn't worth it.

    Thrown through a loop

I felt the same way. I had to jump through so many rings of fire to finally get my surgery that I almost convinced myself that it was a sign NOT to do it. I even thought, maybe I won’t survive this one it was so bad everything they made me go through. I felt like I was on staff making calls making sure people were on top of THEIR job. To the point that after I received my surgery date, they said … You know you need to see a cardiologist (I’m hypertensive, but my heart is great). When I went there 15 days before my surgery he was insisting on MORE tests. I just finally broke down crying. I said my goodness, are you serious? It’s a sign! But lo’ and behold, I recieved a call a little less than two weeks before my surgery date (11/24) and was told if I would mind coming in the next day (11/12). I said with all my nervousness, I WILL BE THERE! 10 days post op, I am doing well through the Grace of God and those appointments the cardioligist wanted to me do … canceled Stay positive, and your husband is 100% right. Have to work hard for what you want, and it is worth it! Keep your head up, you are on your way to healthiness and longevity

    gallbladder problems?

this is what was happening to me I would get cold.. and soon realize that I had a chill, could not get warm, and got the shakes of shivering.. then I would get a headache, pretty close to a migrane but not quite (i have had less than 10 in my life) then I would have horrifc nausia and heave and heave but nothing would come out. then I got diareha (spell?).. I did not have a fever (that I knew of) this happened 4 times in 2 months... and so they gave me an ultrasound and I had gallstones.. But I have not had my follow up appoinment so I am not sure of much else.
