I have only been walking. I plan to start using our elliptical next week to see if that helps also. We do have weights in our basement also, I will have to start using those too. Thanks for the reply. And a 4 month stall...WOW....I feel for you! I'm glad your back to losing now! -

Ditto here, After 2 yaers and three months and 220 pounds lost, lots of those sensations. The biggest to me is since I work in and around thr criminal justice system, sitting on those damn courthouse wooden benched. My butt is actually bony now. However, its a trade off I am totally willing to make.

Well, tonight the Pizzaman had his last slice of Neapolitan heaven for a long time because tomorrow he starts his one week pre-op diet for the banding. pizza is not on the menu. Oh mama mia! :faint:

BKNY, I understand how you feel. I was banded a week ago today and have many of the same feelings. Blue, depressed, frustrated...the only think I can find that helps is talking to my husband, who is very supportive. I've also kept myself busy at night, watching tv shows that I like, and relaxing. That helps to keep my mind off of "things". I'm still healing so I can't exercise yet, and that is also frustrating. I think exercising will help - but it's so hard when I'm so used to turning to food to make me feel better - and now not only can I not do that, I have a super strict "diet" to follow. I hope you feel better. It sounds like you've really hit it off w/ some of the other posters, hopefully they can be the support that you need!

:thumbup:Hi All: Was banded on 11-19-08. On puree now but am trying to get liquids down. I don't think I have been getting enough Protein because I feel really tired. Going to drink the Protein drinks at least twice a day. I realized today it has only been 3 weeks since the banding and that the doctor did say six weeks for healing. Everyone is different. Even with it being laproscopic surgery we have to remember it was still surgery. I think I should be up and running a mile lolololol. I never ran a mile in my life but I hope to walk a mile or two. I am so glad I had this done. I think all of us will be glad. I appreciate all the advise that I read about from all those who have gone before me and had this done. I have lost 28 pounds since I started on the pre-op and after surgery. Good luck to all. I get my first fill on Dec 23-08. Let me know if anyone else still feels tired and sore.

This may be in the wrong place so if so please move it! I just wanted to do this post as food for thought (oh yes picked that for a giggle lol) I think a lot of us try to “run before we can walk” with this surgery. I know I read for days about others both before and after my op what to expect at what stages how I should do things how I should eat etc etc I did freak out on a few things puking pain etc So what I want to really say is this STOP lol Its great to see what others do and how their journey is going but it seems the second we are home it’s a worrying stress fuelled time. Not drinking enough, not eating enough, pain, lbs not going fast enough, Protein, meds the list goes on and on. And in the first few weeks worrying about what you will be able to eat in 4 months or 6 or a year. For me when I stopped comparing myself to others and going by my own body I felt better. I read a lot of posts about people weighing there self more than once a day every day. This is not good for you it becomes a obsession- no joke people were stepping on the scales before and after Breakfast then later in the evening constantly watching the scale to see movement. Me honestly I do not weigh myself at home only at the hospital or doctors I personally do not want to become obsessed with the scale it can be very disheartening when you don’t see movement. If I have ever stalled I have never known about it because whenever I go I am always down from the last time so I never have experienced the feelings of that myself which suites me fine. Pushing the Fluid intake even if it hurt or taking protein when not told too. Follow your own medical teams advice on these things I wasn’t told to introduce Protein shakes for 1 month after my op I asked about the liquid ones he said I can if I want as its not milk but I am healing and not to worry just yet. Being told the general food/drink capacity is another we are all told this much at this stage this at this but end of the day your sleeve may not be the same size as mine. Mine is small more wasn’t taken away the same 80% as every other person having the op I just happen to start out with a smaller stomach to begin with so its smaller. After the op we can have sleeved stomachs ranging from a 4oz-10oz holding little thing that’s a VERY big size difference and it all depends on the size of your stomach before the op. The bigger sleeves are not even meant to test or push to see if its bigger and go by the recommended portion size regardless of it being bigger to actually lose weight. I know I try to be careful with advice yes I still give it but I don’t say do this or that this is what you should do as I did, I say what I did say I have a smaller sleeve and do what your told or your body feels is right for you- just be a little responsible with the advice and not do as I do replies. To sum up before I go off on a major what the hell she saying tangent don’t try to run before you can walk- don’t try to heal before your able to, drink more than your body allows be it food or Water, willing weight off wont help it will come. This is a day to day process for at least 2 years it gets easier of course you listen to your body and know what you can and can’t do/tolerate. To get to the end result you HAVE TO walk first and listen to your body and work out whats best and right to fit you. Anyway thanks for reading if it helps anyone I am glad I stood on my soapbox!

Hi, my name is Chris - I was just banded on Wed 1/23 by Dr. James Davidson in Dallas. I'm 44 and have been fighting my weight since college. it has been a slow upward spiral with lots of weight loss followed by even more weight gain. I finally decided to do something about it as I hit an all time high of 304 and a BMI of 40+. My insurance excludes bariatric surgery so I had to go the self-pay route, fortunately Dr. Davidson was running a $9500 special and I decided to go for it. I lost 18 pounds on the pre-op diet (but have my expectations set a lot lower for the next few weeks based on all the posts about stagnant weight during the post-surgery period). anyway, just wanted to say hello to everyone. I'm looking forward to the journey! Chris

My weight loss charted since pre- op 50% to goal weight.
BigUtahMan posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I weighed 355 (Nov '16) Surgery weight 338 Current weight 283 (I didn't track very often before so I would disregard previous data points.) But you can clearly see sudden drops, weight gains and stalls. Rarely matching my consistent dedication to my plan. I know as I change my relationship with food and make good choices in each moment and day, the rest will take care of itself. Just not in a perfect line. TOM made a huge difference for me as well. I have always lost in fits and starts throughout the banding journey. The only time time I lost regularly was the first several weeks. My weight loss graph shows plateau, dip, plateau, dip and repeats repeatedly throughout banding. The only difference now that I am pretty much at goal is that the changes are a lot slower and the losses smaller. I always had a steady decline a week or sometimes more right after a new fill. Right now I have been holding steady for about of month . . . but I am half unfilled for being preggers and I went on a three week vacation in the middle east where I ate whatever I wanted. Even with all that, I don't seem to be gaining for which I am very grateful.

I never loose any weight 2 weeks before my TOM. I always loose my weight the 2 weeks after.

Yes, my weight does this as well! My weight is up and down ... up and down the same 3 lbs and then BAM, I'll drop 3-4 lbs over night and keep it off permanently. I had to get an unfill yesterday because I hadn't been able to eat correctly for the last 2 weeks. My body was stuck and going into starvation mode. I was able to eat a chicken salad last night and then I weighed this morning and I lost a few lbs... I think because my body finally got nourishment.

A little pain when introducing new food?

Most foods have not bothered me, but the first time I ate steamed cauliflower I was quite uncomfortable for about three hours. -
Feelings of anxiety one week post op.
Lilikchen posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on Dec. 19- In the past 2 days I have been unable to sleep, feel the Adrenalin running through my system, chewing my nails, feeling hyper, anxious--NOT depressed. I am excited about my surgery and potential weight loss. Could this be because I have had a few cups of regular coffee and tea instead of decaf? Has anyone else had this problem???? -
Gawd. I'm still losing the Water weight I gained from IV fluids and now I'm expecting to stall 2-3 weeks out? That will give me 1 week of losing this month. I feel cheated out of my 1st month of significant loss. So not fair. <petulant foot stomp>

It is annoying, I agree. I came out of surgery weighing 5 lbs more than when I went in, then I lost ounces for the first few days, then the water drained. I was losing about a lb a day until 2 weeks post..... then nada, nix, nihl, ZERO, for about a week and a half! It has picked up again and now I am losing about a half a lb a day. I was told by my NUT that a lb of fat is bulky, so I can lose a lot of inches before losing a lot of lbs. She said, a fast drop in lbs usually means we are losing muscle. So just stay the course and let your clothes be the judge. They will get looser even if the scale won't budge!

I'm three and a half weeks post op and I had my first bout of Dumping Syndrome yesterday. I felt horrible, and even though I'd read about it, it was much worse than I ever expected. Today I'm still feeling sluggish and not at all like myself. I'm crying because I don't know if I made the right decision or not. I'm scared because I just don't feel like myself and I'm scared to eat for fear of starting the nausea and pain all over again. Can someone please give me some encouragement and advice?

Feeling Sorry for Myself
kellyw74 replied to lkcraig316's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am sure that you probably know this, but make sure you are eating enough. I was not losing for about 2 1/2 weeks and figured out that I was not getting enough calories. I upped my calories by about 200 and started losing again!! Kelly -
Hungry! Hungry! Hungry! Help me please!
kefirchick replied to kefirchick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Jack- I do recognize satiety, and I experience it after eating a small meal. If I eat my 4 ounce high Protein meal, I can lay down my fork, and say "fine" I am satiated. I am no longer hungry. And believe me, I am happy as a pig in s**t after I eat. But two to three hours later, my hunger reappears with a vengence. Just like a full bladder. It tells me to take care of it NOW, or there is going to be an accident. I can temporarily wipe out my hunger with phentermine, but I don't like the side effects that go with that drug. Plus, even phentermine slowly looses its effectiveness after a few months. It is the sensation of hunger that drives me crazy. And the longer I am hungry, the more intolerable it becomes. Doesn't matter if I am under stress, or just hanging out having a pleasant day. Once I get hungry, I am miserable until I get something to eat. (High protein diets keep me more satisfied than Hi carb diets, but I even got hungry when I was mildly ketotic on Adkins!! Go figure.) That is why I took the plunge with the band. From what I read, people are successful because they are no longer hungry. Seemed like the answer to my prayers. I know. I know. Man plans. God laughs. Arrrrrgh! kefirchick -
Hungry! Hungry! Hungry! Help me please!
kefirchick replied to kefirchick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
 Hi shortgal- I am too-short that is. (5'2") I was banded 12/21/08, about a month after you, and I have had two fills, scheduled for third in two weeks. I have not lost weight as quickly as you have-6 pounds pre-op, and only 6 since the surgery, all in the first two weeks. This really is much more of a struggle than I thought it would be.:wink2: I am glad I found this forum. I get more information and support here than from the doc. Not that he isn't attentive-but he isn't living this 24/7. Just knowing that I am not the only one with my particular problem is very helpful. I don't feel like such a wus complaining to him. So thanks for reminding me that I am not alone. Makes me want to go out and sing a chorus of Kum-by-ya, Si se puede! and all that stuff ha ha! kefirchick -
Hungry! Hungry! Hungry! Help me please!
kefirchick replied to kefirchick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi sfeiner: Oh No!!!! You are two months ahead of me in band dates, and you are still hungry? That sucks!!!!!! :eek:Tell me it ain't so. Q: Why did I think that the hunger would disappear? A: That's what they told me. Silly me. I actually believed them. (Thing is, I am hungrier with the band than when I was dieting preband! At least then, I could stuff my pie hole with lettuce and celery-something I can't do now.) How many fills have you had? I am at two fills for a total of 6 cc in a 10 cc band. Doc says they start filling slower now-maybe 1/2 cc addition at a time. Next fill for me is in 2 weeks. kefirchick -
Feeling restriction??
Nicole74 replied to extraonme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was the same way..I have had 3 fills and after the 3rd I finally had restriction...however, the really good restriction only lasted about 2 weeks than I was able to eat more again. after my 3rd fill I had a total of 7ccs in 10 cc band. My doctor told me most people start feeling restriction at around 7cc's. I still can eat close to 2 cups before feeling full. It depends on what I eat..somedays I feel more restriction than others and some meals I can eat more than other meals..I havnt figured it out yet. I got banded july 29th. before my 3rd fill and for the first few months after surgery I had no restriction! and it sucked! Im waiting for my 4th fill which is scheduled on Jan. 11th. I think this fill will get me at my sweet spot,at least I am hoping. I do get stuck occasionally now and can't eat a ton of food but I still can eat more than the half cup they reccomend. You will get there...before my 3rd fill I was freaking thinking I had 6cc with no restriction and that I may never get there ...but I thikn now with each fill I will feel a little more. I asked my doctor what happens when I get to 10cc?? and he said "not be able to drink water"..lol..so not saying everyone is like that but you may not feelgood restriction until closer to your max.
