I bought a Ninja from QVC just to puree my foods. Two days ago I tried the banana ice cream! YES! Freeze some cut up banana ( half is enough!) Drop it in with a four blade and a splash of milk ( 2 T ) pulse then run it a bit. It is absolutely the texture of soft serve. It was a devine treat. - I had to share with my son and husband, a whole banana; it was way too much for me to eat. Now to be a good RNY revision girl, ill try my chocolate protien shake instead of the milk, should give me my Protein, a new flavor and yet, the creamy treat! I suppose yogurt would do the trick also. It is worth the Ninja to have the ability to have " banana cream"

Are you doing preop diet? I added Greek yogurt. Go for Fage or chobani because they have a lot of Protein in it and that will keep you fuller longer.

I Am Constantly Getting Stuck!!!! I'm Miserable!
Puppypaws commented on Nicole Sikes's blog entry in nsikes' Blog
WOW - me too! A couple bites and that is all I can eat and I get hungry. I can drink OK. I was banded Dec. 13. Actually, it was a revision (i think that is right). First time thru the tube wasn't connected or came undone, so he removed that band and gave me another one. If all I am eating is a few bites, shouldn't the weight be just falling off?? I have lost 23 lbs and I do eat healthy. I can only eat so much. 2 or 3 bites of cottage cheese, yogurt, whatever. I thought this was how it was supposed to be. -
First time Stuck....questions?
pamela3782 replied to Stargurrl*'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok now that you have restriction here are a few things.....pizza is most of the time going to be a no no along with any type of doughy bread, dense meat, or rice. Everyone is different but those are a few that I have a problem with. #2, after a day of having food slide through your band at night the stomach does tend to swell and you get dehydrated which in turn means your band is going to be tight when you wake up. My suggestion to you is either do a protein shake, yogurt or oatmeal for breakfast OR before you attempt to eat, half an hour prior, drink at least 12 oz. of water. It should help. Take it slow and remember that although the amount of chewing you did before was ok, this is now a whole new ball game. #3 if you drink with your meals, stop. Liquids can expand certain foods and make it more difficult to go down although it would seem it would push it through. Congrats on the restriction though! Remember the band doesn't work for you, you work for the band. -
well, its hard to say. What I really wanted to say something about was the going back to the fish. You do not wan't to do that. When you are comfortable and have had enough you should stop and put it away, don't go back to it ten or twenty minutes later to have more - because you could honestly do that all day. It probably doesnt seem like grazing but thats what that is. You should be comfortably unhungry when you stop eating, not full, not stuffed. I would encourage you to examine if what you are feeling is really hunger or if it is thirst, or if you just have a pattern of snacking and psychologically, that 4 ounces of fish just wasn't doing it for you. If you are truly hungry you should probably switch to something more substantial to snack on then pudding, and Jello. a harder cheese, a 2 oz piece of chicken, a small salad even. I try to have at least three premade salads in my fridge at all times. They have 3oz lettuce, 1 oz of tuna and 28 grams of cheese. I usually have half at a time with greek yogurt ranch dressing. One is a meal, half is usually a snack.

Going from Liquid to soft food today, a bit nervous :)
Plucky posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Today I'm allowed my first soft foods; eggs, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, cooked veggies, and fruit. I'm a bit nervous! Wish me luck with the next steps. Sadly I don't love eggs and hate cottage cheese but will make this work! -
Feeling weak and nearly fainted
pixigrl replied to ReadySetFit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here's a thought. How about combining the two? I have hydrolized protein powder (fruit punch flavor) that I add to my liter water bottle. It's 280 calories (great for weaknes) and it's 60 grams of protein! Also, try the bariatric soups and puddings. They have 20-30 grams of protein in them and they are easy to digest and made with the intent of dealing with sensitive tummies. Please don't be freaked out by the amount of calories. We eat so little now that it evens out. Plus the protein in the water will help you to stay full for a longer period between meals. For the rest of the day you can focus on "comfort" and soothing foods that may not necessarily meet the protein needs. Have that yogurt or soup or frozen yogurt that will settle into your stomach and stay. -
I did not get up this am, however, I do have plans to exercise. I just had a rough night last night and woke up with a headache. So, I've decided to exercise today during my lunch hour. I brought my stuff to work, so there will be no excuses. Tomorrow, I will resume my 5 am routine! Todays menu Bfast coffee with cream/ iced coffee snack - M2 yogurt with a handful of granola lunch salad with salmon dinner chicken breast, green beans water, water and more water. Exercise - 20 min of HIIT on recumbant bike Wt - 179.9- grrrrrr - but, I have no one to blame but myself! Cannot wait until my fill in 10 more days!

Ready to start mushy food this week
Bufflehead replied to goosefam's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yogurt and tuna are very different. Yogurt is not dense protein and it tends to slide right through your pyloric valve, thus your restriction is not engaged. Also, at two weeks out your stomach nerves are still healing and aren't necessarily capable of reliably telling your brain that you shouldn't give it any more food. That's why it is so important to measure or weigh a small portion and eat that, and only that, regardless of what physical signals you may or may not be getting. Good luck! -

REGRET -doctor Changed goal weight
Inner Surfer Girl replied to AWD12368's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree, it is critical to reach your protein goal every day as soon as possible after surgery. As soon as I passed my leak test in the hospital they started giving me ProtiDiet liquid concentrates. Even on the clear liquid stage, which it sounds like you have passed, you need to be working on getting in your protein. For the full liquid phase it is easier because you have more sources: protein shakes, yogurt, etc. I would definitely revisit your program materials and give your NUT a call if you have any questions. Getting in enough protein helps with both healing and weight loss. -
I just replied to a question just like this on the general forum. I had my first stuck experience last week, and originally, just thought I'd try to "eat through it", really focusing on small bites and chewing. Unfortunately, it just lead to 2 more time of food getting stuck and me having to throw up. I'm sure it was from inflammation and swelling in the stomach and at the band site from the original thing that got stuck. Anyway, I ended up doing liquids for 24hrs (soups, protein shakes, yogurt) and then soft foods for 24hrs and since then I haven't had a problem.

What are your "automated meals"?
MarySue33 replied to TerriDoodle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree 100% on the Trader's Joes fish. We have a little toaster oven at work and I eat mine at lunch time. In fact, the ladies at work were all getting envious of my gourmet meals every day! Plus, between that and my Protein shake, I get my 60 grams of protein in before I leave work and don't have to worry about it at night. I am definitely into the automated meal. For me, the whole structure of not having to decide what to eat helps a lot. Here is my typical day: Breakfast: Protein Shake Lunch: Trader Joe's fish broiled with a small amount of veggies Dinner: Either soup with a few oyster crackers, yogurt, tuna salad or more fish and veggies Bedtime snack: One more protein shake I was just thinking the other day that it is absolutely amazing that this is all I am eating and that I am satisfied by it. My kids and I went out to dinner the other night (the first time since my fill) and I brought home about 85% of my meal. In fact, I just finished the rest of it up tonight. I was able to make four very filling meals out of just a part of what I used to eat at one sitting -- plus, if I went out to eat, I never turned away dessert. It's a nice feeling to feel like I am starting to get some control over this...a very nice feeling, indeed! -

Full Liquid Stage Suggestions
kayte819 replied to chyna86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lived on malt o meal. I'd put splenda in it & some milk or even evaporated milk & it was good. My nut said grits were ok too but I couldn't manage them. My nut ok'd strawberries & blueberries so I cut them tiny with splenda on them & mixed with cottage cheese (I much preferred the smaller lumps - can't think of what it's called for some reason), greek yogurt blended with milk, frozen berries & sf banana pudding is delish...like a fruity milk shake-smoothie (I'd add protein powder sometimes but its a lot of protein w/ just the yogurt & milk). I couldn't & still can't eat eggs unless they were like egg drop soup. I loved hot & sour soup from my local Chinese restaurant with egg & tofu only - no meat. If you like malt o meal - I made a bigger size batch then put it in Tupperware so when I wanted some I didn't have to make it every time....I'd just scoop out a 1/4 cup & microwave it. Cream of wheat is similar but I don't like it as much. I didn't enjoy the mushies stage at all & hated most of the cream soups....I have a pantry full of them & they will never get eaten! Also, I HATED all protein shakes but muscle milk light vanilla latte rtd tastes just like a Starbucks vanilla chai latte & has a thin consistency...try it! I love it! They sell it @ my local 7-11 but I haven't found it anywhere else Good luck! -
Severe gas pains...what is the cause?
BetsyB replied to krstjump03's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some foods are sort of notorious for gas production--Beans, certain veggies, etc. So this may be a contributor, depending on what "normal food" means to you. I found, post-banding, that I've become lactose intolerant. Anything containing milk (except yogurt and cheese; the bacterial cultures in those prevent the problem) makes me terribly gassy. It's my understanding that this is not unusual post-bariatric surgery (but more common after RNY). I also have NO tolerance for sugar; I found this out when treating my just-discovered lactose intolerance with Rolaids---it didn't even occur to me to be concerned about the amount of sugar in a Rolaid, but it caused great gastrointestinal distress. So, two new intolerances identified at once! (Fun.) BUT--the most common reason for gas is swallowing too much air when eating. I assume you're not using straws or drinking during meals, since your doctor probably forbade these both. But also remember to chew slowly and carefully and don't talk while eating. (I don't mean don't talk during the meal--just not between putting a bite in your mouth and swallowing.) -

I had my first "mushy" meal today. I had some salmon and peas. I felt good. Ate real slow and even set a timer to chew for a full 30 sec and then laid my fork down for a 90 sec before taking my next bite. Stopped at 20 min and I was satisfied. About 3 hours later I had some plain Greek yogurt, ate small bites and waited. Then wound up with a wicked stomach ache???? Has anyone had that happen? Wondering of my stomach just was shocked after going so long without food and then got bombarded. Any suggestions???

I've always been one to get hungry quickly after eating a breakfast of Cereal or oatmeal - carbs. I find that Protein stays with me much longer. A scrambled egg or some yogurt works well for me. You should check out the Surgical Weight Loss 5 Day Pouch Test. Lots of folks here swear by it for helping get back on track. In fact, there is a whole thread dedicated to getting ourselves back on the bandwagon: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f178/starting-holiday-detox-early-anyone-wanna-join-me-84070/ . Lots of good support and advice there!

when did you guys start seeing results?
maquinn20 replied to Nicki13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
13 pounds is amazing! A pound a day!!! That is the rate I am about running...17 days post-op and I am 20 pounds down!! You should calorie count - even if it is just for one day - and you will realize we are "eating" barely anything. I drink like 4 double skim milks a day (8 oz skim milk + 1/3 cup nonfat dry milk = 160 calories x 4 times daily = 640). Sometimes I add a small 5-8 oz yogurt in. Clearly that is so much less than we used to eat. And even as we are allowed to add more solids in, it is minimal and again, way less than what we used to nosh on before! You will be fine! We will be fine! -
Struggling, Disappointed with me.
JessO221 replied to Lia M's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can completely relate. This past weekend I had a cheesy bacon potato skin Friday, a chicken finger Saturday and part of a gyro Sunday. Stomach tolerated it all fine but I felt gross because of all the grease, and disappointed in myself for going back to foods I used to eat. Monday was reset day for me and since I haven't had anything but lean meats and Greek yogurt. On one hand it's really nice that my food options are increasing but on the other hand it's making it so much harder to avoid temptations.
