Had revision surgery almost two weeks ago and I am completely amazed at how easy it has been. Have walked quite a bit, came back to my business one week after and am so thankful everything has gone so well. I have had some troubles with the Proteins so now am shaking Greek yogurt with every kind of cream Soup I can find and heating it up. I finally decided the Protein chemical taste was making me slightly nauseous since I previously cooked and ate mostly fresh, not processed, foods.

Less than 5g Sugar and Less than 5g Fat
dhrguru replied to VanessaVSGforme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm rny, and wad told something similar re: sugar grams. I try to follow it, but the only greek yogurt I like has like 15g sugar. I eat it anyway, it's not daily. I don't dump. -
It takes time to work up to it. I doubled up to increase my Protein. My first shake of the day I made with 1 scoop of Protein powder 26 gms protein, 1 cup of Water and ½cup of greek yogurt (Fage 0%) 13gms protein. That started my day with over 30 gms of protein in one drink. I'd serve it over ice for a tiny bit more water, and I counted those 8 ounce of water towards my fluids. It took me an hour to drink it in the beginning. lunch was the same deal. The nice thing was I had hit over 70gms of protein by 1 pm. I then just sipped on water until dinner. That first week if I was lucky I got though an entire 24 ounce water bottle. However counting the water in the Protein drinks, by the time I was done, I had gotten in 50 ounces of Fluid before dinner. I could take it easy at dinner. During the full liquid stage I would have half a cup of veg broth or non chunky Soup with a scoop of unflavored protein powder mixed in for another 26 gms of protein. Once I was on purees, I would have a ricotta bake, refried Beans topped with a bit of cheese or scrambled eggs. After dinner I just sipped on water for as long as I could stand it or I hit my 64 ounces. I needed my dinner to be savory and not sweet so it was important to have that soup for dinner.

Hi Reetz. Fluids for first 3 days - drinking yogurt, shakes, broth. Then purée casseroles, runny porridge, protein shakes with a bit of fruit. Up and Go Energize is great too -

Aussie girl sleeve Fri 28 August!
smileygal replied to smileygal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
2 weeks post op yesterday!! Had my follow up appointment with Dr & dietician - I am a 'model' patient! Eating 1-2 purée meals per day plus shake and yogurt for snacks. Wounds all healing. Not much weight lost in last few days. Not sure why. But ok with it as I don't want to lose too fast. Back to work Monday. Good energy levels. Looking forward to soft food at the end of this week and doing some lunchtime walking. How are you all doing?? -
Things I didn't expect my first month post-op
wheezysmom replied to SleeveMe247's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That it would hurt to swallow anything for a couple of weeks. That I would be scolded by the PA because I lost too much weight post op. How little I can eat. That I could no longer tolerate Protein shakes. I am working on it but I get nowhere near enough protein. It takes forever for me to eat a container of yogurt. I still struggle with chewing thoroughly/slowly and not eating too fast. -
Protein powder - Smaller scoop?
ttdish replied to ttdish's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm actually looking for something I can add to my food- yogurt, Soups, etc. that's why I want a small scoop, because my portion size is so small. I tried putting some in refried Beans, and the amount I needed to add to get a decent amount of Protein was equal to the potion of my beans! I'm going to try one of the ones listed that has 25 or so grams of protein per scoop. At least then I can add 12+ grams of protein using half a scoop. -
I am almost 3 weeks postop. I couldn't stand the premier shakes at first. I like them now. The chocolate tasted way to sweet to me the first few days. I know that sounds crazy because I am a sugar addict. I make my shakes in a nutribullet now. I put in one premier shake, 1/2 banana, a little bit of Greek yogurt and a few teaspoons of nonfat dry milk( adds extra protein) then I add ice and blend. It tastes great like this!

Things I didn't expect my first month post-op
SleeveMe247 replied to SleeveMe247's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Omg this is a plethora of information, just what I was hoping for. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that hasn't had a BM at almost a week out. And I'm drinking Water like crazy with no problems but still don't have a desire to eat much else. I'm able to have full liquids now but hardly have a desire. My pain is still pretty bad at my incision site but it's not infected or anything. I'm taking it easy today. I was able to swallow a Colace soft gel and my Narco pill cut in half today, that suprised me because I couldn't take them crushed. I only did it out of desperation because my syrup is almost gone. Also I licked a small amount of Trader Joe's Cookie Butter off the spoon when I served my daughter her afternoon snack of apple slices with cookie butter, and I didn't get sick. Nothing has made me sick so far actually. If I can just poop and get past this pain, I would actually be one happy camper. I don't even think about food very much anymore, it's actually kinda off putting and I have to force myself TO EAT. So I'm hoping this propels me to get rid of more than the 60% excess weight. Quick question...has anyone tested the waters yet to see if they "dump"? I bought some Greek yogurt from Trader Joes yesterday and realized it still has 17g of sugar although I got the nonfat. Granted, I can only eat about a quarter of a serving anyhow, but I'm debating if I should try it at all out of fear of dumping. Any thoughts on this? -
Today I had my one month follow up. I can eat solids and I did eat at lunch 1/4 cup of chicken salad. It did take me 2 hours but it sure felt good to eat real food again. I wasn't really hungry but thats what my diet says to eat. No pain just a few gurgling sounds coming from my sleevester. I still have applesauce think i will save for later. I made the chicken salad the consistency of a spread with greek yogurt and 1 boiled egg. I made enough to last a few days. Next time will only make one chicken breast so I don't get tired of eating same thing. I need to prepare better.

Do protein drinks count towards your fluids intake?
honeybunz replied to mismatched's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, his opinion is that high protein is what's killing America. He wants us to eat plenty of beans, whole grain oats, nuts, fruits & veggies. I have incorporated more of what he wants into my diet but I do love my Greek yogurt, meat & cheese (which he highly frowns upon). I just do my best and do what works for me. -
How often is it okay to eat?
BLERDgirl replied to theother_onefoot's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was newly sleeved I couldn't eat much as well. I needed to eat every 2 hours. I'm one of those people who actually does get full on liquids. I started combining things in to meet my Fluid and Protein goals. I mixed plain greek yogurt in my Protein drinks which upped the protein. I thin would serve them over lots of ice which helped increase my fluid intake. By adding a quarter cup of yogurt (13 gm protein) to my Protein Drink (26 gm protein) by 1 pm I was more than 2/3 of the way to meeting the minimum of 60 gms protein. I would then sip Water until it close to dinner. If I got hungry again, I had a small Protein shake or some kefir. I was able to meet minimum protein and fluid goals by week 2. Things got easier once I moved onto purees. Even then I still planned for 3 meals and 2 Snacks. However I always started the day with that protein drink. -
How long do you ache inside?
samy278 replied to POSE2VSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get your Protein in. It helps with that. At this point, I guess your only on liquids so have some Protein shakes, greek yogurt (your new best friend), light cheese, etc. Also, it's important to get your Water in and it helps with hunger. I dont think anyone has ever been able to get at least 50g of protein and 2 litres of liquids on one week post-op but that's what you should be aspiring to get to. Hunger comes and goes at first. Personally, on the first month I couldn't even stand the idea of food. Now I'm craving a bunch of things and I get more hungry. Its just our bodies adjusting and our brain checking in with our satiety. I think it's a great thing. Basically we are resetting out satiety and now we can really know when our body is hungry and for how much. My nutritionist says that now, all we need to do is really LISTEN and give our bodies what they really need : if we get some practice, we will actually know what we need (protein, carbs, veggies, etc.). -
For my chewing pleasure, I'm chewing ice. I need the crunch. SF popcicles do about the same thing. I can have fruit juice (diluted with some water), just not citrus. For extra protein I prepare SF pudding with 2 c of FF milk, adding in 1/2 c dry milk. (It's all allowable in my plan.). The pudding really helps my protein needs. Also can have SF yogurt. I mentioned earlier I make my own broths with simple spices; I crave that savory flavor, get tired of sweets. I just can't/won't drink the protein shakes sold by the docs and GNC anymore. It just tastes like chemicals to me. I hope you can find something to satisfy your cravings. You've lost more than I have, I'm only at 12#, 7 days after surgery. No wonder you're hungry for protein! But we can do this! I know we can. We've paid a heavy price for what we're going thru, so hang in there. I can a light at the end of the tunnel!

Worried about my protein intake
BLERDgirl replied to tinatina119's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So what are you drinking? Are you tracking your protein at all? High protein liquids: 1. Kefir or yogurt drinks 2. Boil a chicken breast. Puree it, thin it down with chicken broth 3. Black Beans, lentil or split peas pureed & strained. Again thin down as needed. 4. Instead of milk based Protein shakes, try Protein Drinks. Try brands such as Proasis, Isopure or even Special K Vitamin waters. You need protein to heal, protein to lose and protein to maintain your hair/skin & nails. You also need to keep your fluids up to prevent dehydration. If you are still having trouble, you should wait until the 24th. Call your nutritionist and speak with them about your concerns. In the meantime, keep working on getting in more protein, even if you have to literally sip all day. -

Get non flavored protein powder and add to soups, yogurt, or any other thing you are eating/drinking. I just did not add to yo plain water. I found premier chocolate shakes the best -
6 months and I start working out more regularly, and more intense work out, I'm starting getting hungry but I do protein shakes, protein bars, nuts, Greek yogurt, chia seeds etc, trying to stay away from bread, or pasta.

Sept date I am all set
dragonfly78 replied to chas4022's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@pindoctor I love my nutribullet, although I haven't been pureeing foods at this point. I have been sticking to either greek yogurt, small curd cottage cheese (I got the Breakstone in the individual cups) and I've done a couple eggs while just chewing the eggs and cottage cheese well before swallowing. Thankfully I only have to take one small pill twice per day along with any pain pill that I need so I have been able to take them with sips of water (weird sensation feeling the pill do down all the way now). I am looking forward to using the Nutribullet for more "involved" protein shakes in the near future. My surgeon's nurse gave me a sheet with some great recipes. It has been amazing how you really do feel full after only a few bites. I am looking to my next stage of foods, which is day 14-30, when I move into 2-3 ounces of regular textured proteins per meal (other than red meat) and a couple bites of soft canned or fresh fruit. Oh, and I can add beans, so I am planning on making a ground turkey chili!! -

Inner Surfer Girl replied to confusedgirl18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please talk to your NUT. The last thing you need to be eating is rice and Pasta. Since you are on soft foods try: cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, tuna, soft fish, refried Beans, etc. if you must have carbs stick with complex carbs like oatmeal or soft-cooked vegetables. Try soft-scrambled eggs (although some people have trouble with eggs early out). Did your NUT provide you a list of appropriate foods? Why not give your NUT a call? -

I hate all protein drinks too, except premier - the chocolate is the best! I tried an "Oh Yeah" brand today... nope - ugh. Try premier if you haven't, and/or unjury chicken soup. Or eat lots of Greek yogurt. Good luck! -
1st question, Why couldn't I loose on my own? Next -How do I not regain?
sparksrn posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
We have all asked ourselves this question, why can't I loose the weight on my own? I think different things contribute to the whys, but for most of us it's because we are hungry all the time, food is everywhere, we like stuff that isn't good for us, we are busy, and food taste good! It's hard to resist foods we want, WLS doesn't give you that choice for a while, if you eat to much or bad it comes back up! You can fill up on very little with WLS. Eat to much fat or sugar and you'll be sick. Food is still everywhere but you start noticing that you can probably find something good for your WLS tummy just about everywhere also. I'm only a little over 3 months out and I've lost 50lbs. I'm just now getting where I feel hungry sometimes, some folks don't get that hunger feeling for much longer. Your taste buds change, I used to hate Greek Yogurt, now it's good! Does it really matter as to why you haven't been successful at losing weight and keeping it off? What matters is you know you can't and you know there is something that can help you, WLS. It forces you to eat the right things, and it forces you to eat very small portions, and your not hungry while doing it. The only way it fails is if you don't learn a new way of life before the maximum effects where off, then you have a good chance of gaining it back. I am hoping that when this time comes I will be 100lbs down and that will give me the motivation to stay on track. What ever you decide, we are here for you and we have all been there! What your feeling is totally normal. I felt so guilty about having the surgery, I felt like a failure and couldn't believe I was spending all that money and missing work because I couldn't keep from stuffing my fat face! Then for a few weeks after surgery I kept asking myself "what have you done" apparently that is a normal feeling also. Now three months later I am so glad I did it! I know for a fact I never would have lost this 50 pounds (and hopefully another 50) without the surgery. Now the next question-- How do I make sure I don't regain the weight? I know I'm worried about it already, I need to prepare myself now while my surgery is working so well. I need to change who I was, because the person I was is still the person I am now. I still love food, I still love the taste of foods that are bad for me, I'm still crazy busy, and food is still everywhere. How do I become someone different from the person I was before surgery? Help! Really worried. -

Looking for those who had sleeve in August 2015
stelsewhere replied to Sherri1964's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all! I was sleeved Tuesday, 8/18. 3 weeks in and feeling great. Still get a little lightheaded when I get up from sitting down, but I know I need to push myself a little more with getting liquids in. I'm kind of a mess with food. I'm scared to transition to anything "soft" and I'm never hungry. I make sure I get my Protein shakes in, and I eat greek yogurt, watermelon, cottage cheese. I'm ready to start branching out but I don't know what I'm supposed to start with? I'll say, hm, maybe some hummus? But aren't Beans super hard to digest? I have my one month appt next Wednesday so hopefully I get a little more clarity on the soft food part.
