  1. Well if you are talking about the larger incision then yes I have. This incision got an infection, took antibiotics for 2 weeks and it is healing nicely.
  2. I hate to ask this question but I am month 4/6 in pre-approval process. My whole life I have tried anything you can think of and I have been so very sure each one was the answer. I usually lose between 8-12 pounds each attempt and then stall. It's been the same thing pre-op. I did intermittent fasting with being gluten free since 7/31/19, no problem fasting 20-22 hours but when I would try to do alternate day fasting or 24 hour fasting I would gain with the lower calories. I have researched starvation mode and most experts agree it does not exist. I ended up averaging 19 hours and plateaued at 12 pounds after 3 months and then started gaining again even with the fasting. When I did my pre-op I was at one of my lower weights (my weight plot looks like shark teeth) and was told I was not allowed to gain at all during the process or my surgery would be denied. As part of my pre-op I have continued intermittent fasting for an average of 16 hours but I also gave up all grains, dairy, sugar, and soy. I have lost another 12 pounds for a total of 24 but cannot get any lower. I've played with calories, food types, anything I can think of. I track all my calories and activities and range 1200-1500 being mostly on the lower end of the range and get at least 30 mins of walking 5 days a week. I have no emotional issues with food and am very disciplined. I do have Hashimoto's thyroiditis but my hormone ranges are good according to my bloodwork. My thyroid is almost not existent except for a large nodule so my endocrinologist wants me to have me thyroid removed in addition to the sleeve. My big fear is that there is something weird with my metabolism and that I'll have the surgery and not be successful. It sounds crazy to even say that but this is a support group and that is my truth.

    Emotional Wreck!!

I feel for you, and can relate. I started a blog to help me. I used to love to write, and am hoping to restore that hobby. Somewhere along the way, the stress of life took over and instead of turning to my other talents, I turned to food for comfort! I had my surgery last week, and am still on Clear liquids per my surgeon's orders, and it is much more difficult than I thought it would be. Under normal circumstances of stress I would turn to food. Right now I can't, and it is tough cookies! See, there I go referring to food again!!! Lol. You are not alone in your struggle! So take the good advice you get here and put it to use. It is helping me. Hugs! My blog: Lap Bandit Girl I just started it, so there is not much there!

    Not losing

I had a one week stall at 3 weeks and it is fairly common and totally normal. I even gained a pound when I went to purees. Your body is just adjusting and will start dropping again. I had another one at 5 weeks (and i got frustrated again) but rationally i knew it would come off again...no need to panic. Stalls are all part of this. I'm not looking forward to the 2 month stalls I've heard about. 1 week is nail biting enough for me

    Not losing

http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/351046-embrace-the-stall/ Your body is still traumatized and pumped full of fluids and meds from surgery and usually you're lucky not to gain weight within the first week to 10 days. And the first stall usually hits around your third week. Your body has to take pauses every once in a while. No one loses weight steadily. Think of it as it needing a small rest break while it figures out whether this lower calorie/low carb thing is going to be permanent... it is? Well okay, guess we'll drop another few pounds and see what you're doing then. Still low cal/carb and adding in exercise? Well maybe it's time to build a bit of muscle and drop some fat so you won't see the numbers on the scale drop but you'll notice the difference in your clothing since a fat is way more bulky than lean muscle. Rinse and repeat for the next year with varying lengths of time spend in stalls. You'll be fine. Do read Inner Surfer Girl's post about Embracing the Stall and it will all make sense.
  6. Hi! I had my band put in on July 28th and a few weeks later developed an infection. Unfortunately, the infection would not resolve and the band was removed on September 26. I just went to my surgeon for a follow up appointment. He told me that the infection wasn't bad but because it wouldn't clear up it was necessary to remove the band. He is confident that the infection is completely gone and has said he will put the band back in whenever I want. I am wondering how soon is too soon. I really miss having the band and the restriction it offered me (I had a fill during surgery and had pretty good restriction - not perfect but pretty good). Has anyone had the band out and then had it put back in again very quickly afterwards? Initially I thought I was going to have to wait until January but now I am hoping for maybe early November? That will give me 5 weeks recovery and 6 weeks before I leave for my Christmas holiday. Does that sound reasonable? Has anyone does this that quickly? It'll be 3 surgeries in just over 3 months. Thanks for your replies!

    Post op

I needed someone here. I had the VGS, Hiatal Hernia repair and gallbladder removal. I needed help for 2 weeks.
  12. First off I wanted to ask a question. My Dr told me my band is empty and they dont fill it until 6 weeks post op. I just started mushies but feel like I can eat like I did before the banding:eek: I have no restriction. Is this normal???

Why can I eat so much!!!!

I'm feeling ya! I am 5 weeks post-op and I had my first fill yesterday. I feel fine. I was only able to eat up to 8 oz of food, but I started to get very hungry before my fill, I also ate 6 times a day. But I lost 13 lbs. So don't worry about it. The change will come. But something I noticed was that because I felt normal, I was eating to fast so I slowed way down, and that helped. I take half and hour to eat a meal. And the full switch comes on.

    Post op diet and amount

I had my sleeve on Oct 14. Up until about 2 weeks ago (3 months post op), I felt like I couldn't eat more than 3-4 bites of anything and I was full, sliming, throwing up. I feel like I have finally turned the corner and can have a small, but normal meal. I have even dined out a couple of times and been able to order a small entrée or an appetizer, and eat a decent amount of it vs taking it all home in a to-go box. My normal routine: Breakfast: 1/2piece of toast with 1/2 yogurt Lunch: small sandwich, piece of fruit Dinner: usually some sort of meat (palm sized portion) and 1/2 baked potato or about that much In between meals....lots of Water, water, water.

    Post op diet and amount

My 9yo wanted to eat at Olive Garden last night for his birthday, so after a couple of hours bowling (something we rarely do but probably should more often as the kids enjoy it) we headed over. The wait was 1-1.5 hours. Ugh. I didn't eat at the bowling alley and now I was going to wait another 1.5 hours to eat. It sucked, but I made it. My wife mentioned that from now on we should pack a small cooler for me with food to eat so we never find ourselves in this situation again. 2.5 weeks after surgery, this was my first day like this so it became a valuable lesson. I ordered the chicken Abruzzi which was really, really good. Grilled chicken strips over a bed of kale (which I'm not allowed yet, so I picked out), zucchini, cannellini Beans, green peppers (see kale), and squash. It came with Soup or salad, so I went with the Pasta fagioli and enjoyed the broth, beans, and some of the ground beef (sadly omitting the forbidden for now carrots, tomatoes, and more). It took me about an hour to eat 3-4 of those strips, being sure to chew it to an applesauce consistency, but it was fantastic and I've got leftovers to enjoy for the next few days. Those little yellow things in the picture are not corn (as I thought when I started to eat) but yellow squash cut up extremely small. Not allowed corn and it was nice having the veggies chopped so small.

    Nausea and vomiting

Are you feeling any better? I am almost 8 weeks out and I still feel awful. Can’t eat or drink much of anything without throwing up. They have ran multiple tests and just keeping saying it takes time for you body to heal. I feel nauseous even when I am not eating or drinking. I just want to not feel bad. I have also had horrible acid reflex, which I never had before sleeve. Anyone had that, and does it ever get better?

    Dang dang dang ... *sigh*

I'll be happy losing a pound a week. Has anyone seen that commercial about losing 1 pound takes 4 pounds of pressure off your knees?! That's what I think about when I only lose a pound!

    Dang dang dang ... *sigh*

The first 3 questions are answered in my original post darlin. No fills until 8 weeks post op (July 1st), I work out 30 minutes a day (going to boost it to 45) and I don't really count calories I just try to make the right choices, which I have been. As for eating around it, no I don't.
  25. Ok, two days later and no blood now. I kept down about 3/4 of a small can of chicken broth yesterday. Then nothing else. This morning, so far, I have kept down little over a cup of Water, a TBSP of vanilla pudding, and about 2 TBSP of very thin mashed potatoes and gravy. I think I may be on the mend. Guessing I had some massive swelling? Or is this normal after a fill?
