6 Months Post-Op Down 45 Pounds
Rebecca Cain Salpacka posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
im down 45 since my banding (4/26) and 58 total since March 1 The fill I had just before my 5month post-op visit ended up being too tight, so i was back at the doc on 10/2 and had .5cc removed. it made a huge difference. since then I have been eating just about 1 cup food per meal (which is what my nutritionist wants me to be eating) however, some foods i can eat about 1.5cups. I try to stay away from those and just eat the ones that satisfy me with the smaller portions. I was hoping to have lost 8 lbs in the last month (2 per week) but 5 lbs is still good, and i know that had i got to the gym more this week (only made it there once) and didnt cheat and have ice cream a cpl of the days this month...i would have been at least 1-2 lbs closer to that 8 lbs. So i cant blame anyone but myself. I now know what i need to do this next month (and from here on out) if i want to up those weight loss numbers. I am suprised that 6 months after the surgery, I am still "learning" what and how to eat. I knew this wasnt going to be something i mastered overnight..but I still thought i would have a better grasp and better control over my eating by now. Good luck to everyone out there...i am very happy with my band and with what I have done so far...and its good to know that i can still change things up and do even better in the future, if i just put my mind to it. -
Awesome progress! I am 10 weeks post op. I do a shake for breakfast and 2-3 snacks a day and 2 meals. My snacks are mostly all protein. So my third snack depends on where my protein is for the day. I do like to drink the breakfast essintials no sugar add for my night time snack if needed. I am down 36 lbs since surgery today. A total of 70 lbs since Oct. 17th. I measure all my food. Last night I tried a baked lasagna(spinach, chicken and mushroom) I measured 3/4 c. and was able to eat it all. It was also my first pasta to eat. Again, awesome progress and good luck on your continued success!

I always catch a cold over winter, but geez not this early. My problem is I can't eat. I even tried forcing the protein shake down, but I feel full. I think it's the drainage, just taking DayQuil or something equivalent otc. I'm just exhausted and slept the entire weekend. I'm about 10 weeks post op, had lab work not too long ago and everything was fine. Any sleevers that are farther out or have been through something similar have any advice?

I'm the weeks out and in only getting between 300-400 calories a day also. Getting all my protein and liquid in. I lost 10 lbs the first week and unfortunately nothing since. Hi Everyone, On Friday, I made a last minute decision to go to New York for my sisters 40th birthday. My family consists of thin folks who eat carbs, Teddy Grahams, cheesecake , biscotti and lots of Pasta. So naturally from the time I arrived until the time I left, I ate what others ate. First there was the party which consisted of penne ala vodka, a five foot italian sub sandwich, eggplant parmagiana, lemon chicken, potato and macaroni salad and for the rest you get the picture! Dessert consisted of three different choices like cheesecake, cannolis and birthday cake. THere was also champagne, MUDSLIDES to follow and homemade wine. Well needless to say, I had to try everything. I guess I was surprised at how much I could eat with the grazing over a 5 hour period. I knew it was bad since once I get on the carb trail, I have trouble getting off of it. Saturday and Sunday were pretty much the same. I tried to get some exercise and walked a little and did the elliptical machine forabout 15 minutes. I am afraid to get on the scale and find myself back over 200 pounds. Here I am 15 months post op still obsessing about food some of the time. I know I could use a fill, but my doc wants me to wait 2 more months. (I recently had an unfill of .20 after a fill of .10 which made me looser and more receptive for food.) I dont believe in the elusive sweet spot that everyone talks about despite my success losing 136 pounds so far. I do have restriction and when I attempted to find the sweet spot, I just got overfilled and had to take more out than they put in . So I do know my maximum which is somewhere between 2.5 CC. and 2.6, but not a drop more because I was miserable for about 2 days before having the .10 they put in . I now have 2.4, which is not enough but still offers me some restriction. So I am upset with myself for making such bad food choices. I could have just said no. I was hoping to drop another 5 pounds before coming to Vegas next week. Now I will be lucky to just be the same weight I am today. I think I am going to do Protein shakes this week and see where I get.... Do you sense my frustration? Babs in TX 334/198/170 -136

It's official!! I'm an April Bandster!!!
pamela3782 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So at 5:30 this morning I was on my way to Good Sam for my lap band surgery. Surprisingly I honestly had about 6 seconds of nervousness and then was fine. Got down there, got in my gown, stats were taken and I was good to go by 7. Had to take out my tongue ring but luckily it didn't close lol. At about 7:10 I was in the room getting nice and looped up on what the anesthesiologist liked to call my double margarita lol. They rolled me in to the OR around 7:20 and then "sent me to the Bahamas". Next thing I knew I was waking up. Very groggy but I recovered very quickly. They expected me to be in recovery for about 2 hours before taking my xrays and moving me and within about 40 minutes I was up and ready to go. Drank that HORRIBLE contrast for my xrays and then everything seemed good so they moved me to another room. My dad and Kev came in. I talked to them for a while and then I slept for about 20 minutes. Woke up talked a few more minutes and they said they wanted me to pee. They had me drink some apple juice and my dad and Kev went out. By the time they came back I had peed and gotten dressed into my normal clothes. The nurses kept calling me "Miss Independent" because I didn't ask or wait for help from anyone. I even started to straighten up the room a little when I came back in lol. They then offered me a job lmao. I was expected to be released around 4 but being I was improving so quickly I was on my way home by 12:30. Dr. Pucci and the entire Good Sam staff were amazing. I could not have asked for better people to deal with! They told me to expect gas pains from what they filled my stomach with in my shoulders and it would probably move around. I have been in and out of sleep all day but have stayed awake for the better part. I even went to my cousins house to visit with her and my aunt. With the exception of the gas pain the surgical part of it isn't unbearable. I will probably feel worse tomorrow but today it feels like I just took a really powerful punch to the stomach. I ate some broth and Jello and have been drinking my Protein and Water when I can actually breath. The air bubbles are right beneath my rib cage right now so breathing is a bit of a chore lol. Anyway I will keep everyone posted on whats going on but I really from the bottom of my heart appreciate all the prayers, well wishes, and love. You have no idea how much that means to me -
Yep, lesson learned, right? Bread took me forever and I still only eat a tiny bit of it when I do have some. Pasta and rice are my real no-nos, even 19 months out. I can only eat a few bites and I swear they swell in my stomach and cause me discomfort every stinking time. I always overindulge, forgetting that my limit on these foods is only a Tbs. or two, not half a cup. Guidelines are there for a reason, cheater cheater! No, it won't be this way forever. Eventually you'll be able to eat pretty much whatever you want but not in nearly the quantities you used to eat. Once you heal, it's a different story. I'm in the minority but I advocate eating a normal diet without restricting carbs or sugar down to Atkins levels. I suggest if you wish to eat this way to accept that 1) you'll have slower loss and 2) you'll have to track your intake religiously so you don't exceed your nutritional guidelines. I think too many of us approach the sleeve like a diet and get burned out. Restricting our diet drastically builds the expectation that we'll see a drop on the scale every single day. Not so - this is a lifestyle change. You removed most of your stomach. Be responsible and healthy and you'll reach your goals. But for now? Heal! Follow those guidelines and drink as much liquid as you can each day. ~Cheri

PLICATION DONE BY DR ROD ON 3-25-2011..HERE IS MY STORY
bizzy replied to TEXAS DIVA's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
HELLO! For those reading this...not every experience is the same! The nurses were all helpful...you do throw up after surgery...I did, but not every hour...maybe a total of 6 times in three days. The pain meds and nausea meds worked great for me..but I take absolutely no other medications at home, so maybe things work stronger for me. No appetite in the hospital. Some pain but not excrutiating or anything. One thing I did that I think helped A LOT was ..while I was in bed I would bring knees to chest one at a time like I was walking only more of a bend than if on my feet...and burp burp burp..got rid of a LOT of gas...also, pressed into left shoulder...gas there too..burp burp burp. I felt sickly in the hosp...spiked a fever a few times...a shower worked well. It was surgery after all..but not all that painful...for me.You forget why the pain, and then walk and voila! Could lift my suitcase easily leaving the hospital..was surprised at that! The hospital IS gorgeous...and only saw Dr Rod once, just before I went under before surgery. Dr C was very helpful.Just thought I would write this..as all experiences are different. From April 1(10 days preop)to April 18th down 21 pounds...will weigh again on Wednesday April 28 or whatever... Went to work one week after surgery (surg on Sat so the following Monday..10days) ...felt yucky a bit. Back ache from sitting. A bit woozy now and then...had a lot of that after surgery....but second day, perfect. so thats the scoop. -
I was sleeved on 2/19 and I am still on a liquid diet. I have noticed that I don't have a taste for anything anymore. All liquids that I used to love make me want to vomit now. Sweet juices taste bitter, and broths taste strange. Has this happened to anyone else??

Will I be relegated to slow loserville. I had a bmi of 47 going in, and have 140 to lose. Im terrified I am failing. I try and usually eat under 800 calories. Help please im discouraged

1 Year Anniversary, 55 Pounds & 2 Sizes Gone
crystal525 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Friday the 13th was my one year anniversary. And...I finally broke down and went shopping for some new clothes. I had no non-work clothes at all to wear and wanted to wear something for a night out with friends. All of my work clothes are hand me downs from another friend of mine losing weight. I decided to skip trying on the size 16s. Even though I thought there was no way I was fitting in the 14s. they looked so small. I have been wearing 16's but they were all light weight "stretcy pants" --and we all know jeans are different! But even though they are all getting big, I was shocked to fit in a size 14. I fit in every pair I tried on and actually got to decide which pair I liked more, and which ones I didn't like...not only just buying the ones that my butt fit into. But--after all this. I don't feel like I'm a size 14. I don't feel like I look that much different, even though it's obvious to me in pictures and in other people's reactions. It's almost funny. When I started this journey I said I would be happy to just fit in a size 14...but now that I'm here, I'm not satisfied. I still feel like a fat chick with a cute face. Now, I've reassessed my goal --to a size 10. OMG.. it's actually a possibility. I'm one of the ones that took forever to start losing. Now that I'm at my sweet spot, 7.1 ccs in a 10 cc band (I only got small fills every couple months and had to wait 2 months before getting the first one), I finally feel the weight coming off. But my question is this...am I supposed to feel skinny now? How should a size 14 feel? I'm still struggling mentally with the loss. I have to realize that everyone's first reaction to me is not, damn she's fat. I have to realize that it's really happening for me this time. Maybe that's why I never bought new clothes...I thought I'd gain it back again??? And now that I'm a year out, maybe it's the realization that this time it's working?? How does everyone else feel after gettin down to a normal size? Sorry for the vent. My hubby just does not understand... Supportive yes, but everyone here really understands. Thanks for listening. Crystal -
I've read it here before and have been wondering how getting to a low BMI actually helps with excess skin. I'd picture having a little fat to fill things out to be a good thing. My goal BMI of 24 wouldn't cut it? I've been thinking that pumping iron in a serious way on top of carrying an extra 10 pounds or so would be the key to sleeveless shirts. Wrong? Obviously different for different individuals but I'm curious about the consensus.

Plateau for 8 weeks now
catfish87 replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi my fellow Wildcat fan! I'm gonna suggest a couple of things...obviously, just my opinion. Maybe the reason you eat that bread and rice now, is because you have adapted/learned to chew better and have slowed down your eating? I seem to remember not too long ago when you got a fill and were having difficulty with some of those foods. So possibly, you've just adjusted to this restriction level. Concentrate on making the best food choices, and let the band help with quanity. If you end up with more than a cup...don't stress as long as it's good food choices most of the time. Maybe a small tweak is in order....only you and your doctor can determine that. Hopefully, this next suggestion comes across the way its intended. Encouraging. If you really want to break that plateau, you must find something, whatever you can do, to increase your cardio activity. Safely, under direction of a professional, there is something you can physically do to increase your heart rate and burn those calories. KICKSTART that metabolism into high gear! Maybe its only 5-10 minutes the first little while...build slowly, increasing only when you can safely do so, but get that heart rate to whatever your doctor will allow. The rewards are so worth it! Best wishes my friend! -
10 Days Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery And Feeling Weak
Flagstaffian replied to MissE's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello there! I am sorry to hear that you're feeling so weak, but judging by what the other Talkers say, it's pretty normal. You DID just have major life-changing surgery! I just had my surgical consultation yesterday. I only have to lose 10 more pounds to get to my pre-op goal weight! The reason I responded to your post is that it is very concering to me that your surgical program did absolutely no follow-up with you. I guess it is a business, but I have to wonder, what are you doing during recovery? Do you just meet with your PCP back at home? You are totally, 100% RIGHT to be a bit miffed on their lack of caring. It seems odd that they would have no contact with you after the surgery. I wish you the best of luck in your weight loss journey, and a happy new year~ Sarah Flagstaffian -
You are doing great with your weight loss! I have lost 29 pounds so far and it has been 10 weeks. You had your surgery a week before me. I'm sorry about your loss, but to have gone through the surgery and to have gotten this far you are a strong person! Take it one day at a time. Start taking your vitamins, maybe with your protein drink. Are you exercising? That is my downfall. You can do this! I will pray for you!

I need to know the truth.
LovinMe2013 replied to jenRRT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was able to get off of my depression/anxiety meds about 6 mo post op. I had been on them for 2 years before surgery. I did lots of research & knew what to expect each step of the way after surgery. I never hit a depression & never really mourned the loss of food. I just always looked at it as I can't have that right now, but one day if I want to in moderation I can. I was sleeved 1/22/13 at 241 lbs & I'm at 165 lbs now. I went from a size 20 to size 10. I'm also 32 yrs old & had the same worries going through my head. Is this the easy way out? I'm way too young to do this. I have a long life of complications if it doesn't work out. I'm happy that I did it & so far I haven't had any complications. My family finally respected my decision & now they are happy for me. I did "train" my husband before hand on things that I read just to prepare him for how to support me. You do go through emotions as your body changes, but nothing that the support of family & friends can't get you through. I think alot of people end up depressed when they think it's a magic fix, cause it isn't....I still have to calorie count & think of every bite or drink I take. Good luck & stay strong if this is what you truly think will make you happy. -
I GOT MY SURG DATE!!!! It is Aug.6, 2009. My surgeons office will call me with the time. Since I have already lost 19 pounds he told me to continue doing what I am doing and for now. I am surg ready. That was good news! How about that Donna, I too am a RN (retired). However this surg is about me so I am like a baby in the woods and I'm not a good-caregiver for myself. I took care of my Mom until she died 2 yrs ago and now my youngest sister is ill and I'm her primary care giver as well. I just wish I were a better care giver for myself. I posted a tread about a month ago about how I hated exercise and asked if it were mandatory for weight loss with the band and after hearing almost everyone say a resounding, YES!! I decided to start walking and found that I like it. I do sweat a bit but somehow I don't mind it much. I'm getting more excited by the day! Thx everyone!

1200 calories a day, but what about sugars?! What's your food plan look like?
emsbugbug replied to sawyer77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I track my sugar for everything!!! I eat nothing with over 5 grams, but really like to keep it 3 grams or less. It is my belief that sugar is a HUGE factor in weight loss. My pre-op diet was the Sugar Busters diet and I lost 18lbs in 3 weeks. Now I am not saying that once in a while I eat a cookie or something, but I do have my general rule that I like to follow and it has really helped me. I have lost 63 lbs since Sept. 10. -
Surgery set for 11/29 & 11/30. First dr. visits in Sept., took about 10 days for insurance approval. I agree with Corrigan; about 2 months.

I was banded on oct 16th too and felt the exact same way in my oirt area. Doctor put it in a spot where my waistband is and I felt very irritated in that spot-went to doctor yesterday for 2 week followup and he said it is normal.. I can resume exercise, like walking, weights as long as they are not over 10 lbs. Today I can start having one meal of protein. I'm so excited to be ating real food now. I lost 12 lbs so far. Good luck to you. -
Dannon Greek Yogurt w/Special K Protein cereal - yummy!
WildGrits replied to terry1118's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kashi GoLean Orginial is good too. One cup is a serving with Protien at 13 grams, Fiber at 10 grams, sugar only 9 grams and 160 calories. I asked for a Yogurt maker for Christmas so my daughters and I are going to try our hand at making our own. My youngest is Lactose Intolerant so we are going to try making plain yogurt Lactose free so we can add stuff to it. We found some sugar-free syrups at wal-mart quite cheap. -
Banded Aug 11..constipation?
Chippy31 replied to sweetkissez42061's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All Bran makes a drink mix similar to Crystal Light that has 10 grams of fiber. It comes in 2 flavors. I've only tried the pink lemonade it's really good and you can have it while on the liquid diet. It helps a lot. Benefiber is good too but one serving only has 3 grams of fiber. -
Try Papaya enzymes. They help me when I have food lodged/stuck to push it through your stoma at a much faster rate. It especially helps with meats for me. Unless you have too much food stuck, the enzymes will push the food down. If you have a big clog, then it will come back up. :help: You can get them at GNC or Vitamin World and they are relatively cheap and yummy. Hope this helps ~Liz~ banded 03/10/06 Dr.Ortiz 237/210/150 5'7''
