I am having a revision surgery myself due to my lap band constantly slipping and causing issues. I am extremely excited as a co-worker of mine had a revision as well last October and has had fabulous results! Hopefully, this will help put you at ease. My surgery date is rapidly approaching on August 31st! Best of luck to you! -

Considering revision to sleeve from band
LoisinStA replied to LoisinStA's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Thanks for your replies. I have many friends who have the sleeve surgery, not the revision, and they are going well, If I pay attention to stop eating or drinking before bed, I am hoping to avoid GERD, I never had the problem with the band. -
Considering revision to sleeve from band
Amy4a2381 replied to LoisinStA's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am 23 days post op from having revision surgery. My band had a slow leak so I had no restriction. So far it has been smooth sailing for me. I have not had and nausea or vomiting. The only reflux I have had is if I lay down right after eating or drinking. I started sleeping with more pillows for an incline. So besides the surprise bill I received yesterday for 60,000 I am very happy with my decicsion. The first 2 wks was the hardest. I paid for mine upfront. -
I do believe my C-Section was the worst pain in my entire life(25staples4lbbaby). I hand lapband revision to sleeve. It was painful but a different kind of pain. For me the gas was the worst.

Revision Surgery on Tuesday 8/11
monieanne replied to samskiles's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had revision surgery on Monday, 8/10. For me, I think the pain is worse than the band. It's the gas pain that is getting me. Not the incision pain. But today was a better day because I was able to walk more. And that is helping alot. Walk and sip. -

When I had Lap Band and Sleeve I had Cigna, they denied my Sleeve but I appealed with my doctor and got approved. Now I have FL Bcbs but no bariactric benefits so in order to get revision approved their rep said I can mention morbid obesity or any co morbidities, only medical complications to see if I could get it preauth. -

Barret's and the sleeve
chasingpolaris321 replied to Miranda2.0's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had no GERD prior to having the sleeve and now have both GERD and Barrett's. I'm only a year out of surgery and am in the process of revising to bypass. If I knew I had Barrett's there's no way I would do the sleeve. Bypass might sound more intense than the sleeve, but having two weight loss surgeries is certainly more risky than going the safe route to begin with. Everyone's decision is very personal, this is just my experience. Good luck! -
Lap Band & port removed 4 days ago with post op picture
Dream4tc replied to Dream4tc's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Great to hear! I initially was seeking revision to sleeve, but with my history of GERD problems and with the scarring from my band, my new surgeon told me that I would most likely would have the same problems with the sleeve. He also said the surgery with the bypass would be easier versus the sleeve. Looking forward to bypass and I have a great support system. Looks like you have done well with your bypass, Congrats!!! What are your challenges or struggles? -
Lap Band & port removed 4 days ago with post op picture
James Marusek replied to Dream4tc's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
One individual in our Bariatric Support Group meetings had a lap band to RNY revision. His band was wearing into his stomach and had to be removed. When they did the RNY because of the scaring he had to have a smaller pouch. It meant that he had to eat smaller meals than most but he was fine with that. He was very pleased with the revision. -
Lap Band & port removed 4 days ago with post op picture
Dream4tc posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi everyone! I had lap band November 2011. This worked well for a while. I lost about 80 pounds, until I had complication Nov 2014. I had problems with vomiting everything I would eat, so my previous surgeon ordered an upper GI and esophageal manometry. Both of those tests confirmed I had a prolapse. Long story short, my insurance company made me switch to a different surgeon. I had my band and port removed 8/10/15. My new surgeon said that my band had also slipped and was sitting sideways which was causing me to have the vomiting. He also did an intra-op EGD to look at my esophagus to see if there was any damage from 9 months of vomiting. He said it didn't look too bad,but I needed to continue my Zantac and Prilosec. He said he had to remove the adhesions(scar tissue) from the band. I am not going to lie, the port removal and scar tissue removal is painful! It was supposed to be an outpatient procedure and go home same day, but I ended up staying the night in the hospital due to pain control and I am really glad I did. IV Dilaudid was the only thing that was helping my pain. They eventually switched me to percocets and that seemed to help with the pain. I am attaching a picture of the port site. I am now 4 days post-op band and port removal and I am still taking percocets for pain, but it is improving. I will be revising to Gastric bypass in late October, early November based on my surgeon's recommendations and my history of GERD. My insurance company wouldn't allow me to have the revision done in 1 surgery, so it has to be done this way. I am interested in hearing from those who have had band to bypass and what their experiences were. There were 3 total incisions. 2 small ones which don't bother me at all, and one large painful incision where port was. This larger incision is the mean monster.- 23 replies

Any Band to Sleeve Success Stories Out There?!?
swoman2 replied to lisaluvsgreys's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm having my gallbladder removed along with the revision from band to sleeve all in one too. My surgeon says it doesn't add any additional time so no need for me to worry. -
@@parisshel The fills never hurt me (even through the layers of scar tissue) and I was never offered a pain med for it. Didn't even know that it was available! A band patient will always have to research new Drs in any area they move too. They might have to end up driving hundreds of miles for a Dr. willing to service them (an existing band patient). Many don't want to service them. And here is another thing to consider - it is not permanent! It will have to come out eventually. It is a hard thing to accept when you just get banded, because you are still excited and it is still working for you. My mother had her's out after 3 years. Just found out my band is not in the right place, so that might help speed the revision along (after 7.5 years I was lucky!) Why invest in a procedure that doesn't have a good track record? My Dr. doesn't even perform bands anymore or even offer a monthly support group for bandsters. We are lumped together with the other WLS groups.

Barium Swallow Shows Band Not in Right Place...But Not a Slip...?
betrthnever replied to betrthnever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@PSRS520 Thanks. I hope that it only helps me to get a revision to RNY, and that of course I don't end up in ER. BTW a barium swallow is a normal (yearly) part of having a band. Nothing hard about it! -
No thankfully I don't have any problems like that. I've had to have all fluid removed. So many issues with trying fills then having to get unfilled. The band just didn't work for me. My cardiologist actually thinks it's causing my high heart rate issues. She specializes in electro-cardiology and has seen this issues in several lap band patients. So thankful my insurance covers the revision. Surgery on Monday the 17th. I'm excited and ready to go????

When your spouse/significant other is still obese...
dhrguru replied to dhrguru's topic in The Lounge
My sister who had VSG has never made it to goal. her starting weight was over 300#, lowest she made it to was about 250ish. She works out hard core, but IMO wasn't eating well and drinks too much alcohol. She is now @ 260 and doesn't like the fact I'm approaching where she is. She is working at eating better. My neice who had lap band lost almost all her excess weight, from over 300 down to 178ish. She has gained back to about 230. She's young and in love for the first time in her life-- love will make you gain every time :-) Though-- her BF just had VSG-- so i think she's determined to not let him get lower than her. My cousin has a band complication now and had to be unfilled-- and she has started to gain. Her insurance won't cover revisions- so she's stuck. I chose RNY because I saw my sister with VSG was still able to eat a lot of crap after her surgery. I knew the malabsorption feature would help *if* I chose to eat crap. And we both loved sweets...I also wanted the 'safeguard' of dumping to keep me away-- but it looks like I tolerate sugars so far. My sister gets heartburn and throws up more than I care for-- I didn't want to live like that. (and for the record-- I thrown up a handful of times in my life-- mostly pregnancy related-- anything beyond that is abnormal in my head.) I never wanted band-- too many complications and too much risk of not maximizing my weight loss considering my high starting BMI.
