I am so jealous of you vegas people. J sorry about the job sucking. I feel your pain. I work with a bunch of lazy bitchy 50 somethings who feel entitlement because they have worked longer than me. Too bad I can run circles around them and have learned more in a year and a half than they have in 20. The only saving grace is the work i get to do in the bariatric center. I heart my nurse coordinator.

Renewed... your boys are beautiful! What a nice picture! Luluc... LOL, I think I would have been pleased by the comment! BTW, did you say your intervals are: Run 5 min, Jog 1 min, repeat for 30 min?? So you don't walk!! In the HEAT!!! Ok, now you're my hero!

Suzanne...it is soooo much easier when your spouse in on board! Althought my hubby doesn't run, he is FINALLY on board with me about food and losing weight. He's lost 9 lbs in 3 weeks and has been going to the gym with me. I'm sooo proud of him. Not to mention it makes it a lot easier for me to stick to my diet when we are doing it together. Good luck! Renewed...how are you feeling today? Kathy..Hope you are having a great time! I miss your posts...

mamato3 - my DH almost killed me the first time I cut off my hair. It was right after my youngest daughter was born...It was mid back then. This time he really liked it. I asked him the difference. He said I had an ugly haircut before. renewed - kuddos to you for your run. I know you had to have been tired. Also I admire you for taking in foster kids. I myself am an ex-foster kid. I was adopted at 6 months. Of course I don't remember my foster mother, but I admire her. She kept a picture album and diary for each child she kept - then forwarded them to the adopted parents. I still have mine. I'd love to find her someday, but I don't know where to start. Sugarbean - Are you ready for school to start? Do your kids know you've dropped so much weight? Where's Georgia?

Help! My Family Is Against My Weight Loss Surgery!
GinaCampbell replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
My family were totally against my having the vsg. Their fears were that I was not well enough (I have fibromyalgia) to survive the surgery itself and that I might have post op complications. They also felt that I could actually lose weight without bariatric surgery. Unfortunately, I did have post op complications that required re admission to hospital, then contracted clostridium difficile. It was very serious and obviously all of their fears were justified. But four months later, the drama is history. They do learn to live with your decision and they still love you. I did try and explain my reasons for going ahead with the surgery during the three years or so that I was in the pre op bariatric program, but they all really were just dead set against it. They felt that I was risking my life having elective surgery. Now that they can see that I will live and now that they see that I can sit with the family during meals and eat some food (I mostly just fake eating), things have calmed down. Even if they stay against the idea, I definitely think you should always inform your family that you are having surgery. It is upsetting, I know. I had no idea how frightened they actually were that I might not wake up from the actual surgery, until the day after. I feel that I didn't understand their specific concerns. Maybe I wasn't listening well enough. Regardless, my relationships were not permanently damaged because I went ahead with the vsg. As long as you feel comfortable with your decision and have done your best to inform them, you will be okay. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Liquid vitamins
FindingCarrie replied to Sleeveforme2017's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@"Sleeveforme2017", you can read more about them here on their website: https://gettespo.com/ They are a bit pricey, but they taste good, and they have been easy on my stomach, both pre-op and post-op. I prefer liquid vitamins to any others because there are no fillers or additives that other vitamins have. Plus I believe that they are more easily digestible. I have just never been able to find a liquid version that tasted good. The Tespo ones are really good. The multivitamin tastes like orange Tang, and the bariatric one tastes a little fruity. I don't now what to compare it to, but it is not a bad taste at all. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Bariatric surgery was a big mistake
anjmayb replied to Alvinchicago's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You can still eat things you want.. but the point is moderation.. and everyone should be carrying around a water bottle all day long.. the point is.. this was designed to be a tool! It's not a fix.. those holidays were ruined because your head was in the wrong place.. you made the choice to make those holidays about food instead of the company.. now it's time to make holidays about the company and not the food which it was supposed to be about anyhow! and why dont you make something you can eat to contribute.. so what it takes you a while.. you can eat and talk at the same time.. let people think whatever they want.. and sad to say.. this surgery is actually quite the norm.. if it wasn't Dennys wouldn't have a healthy place on their menu and except a bariatric surgery card and same goes for other places. I dont know about you but food I like got me to weighing 262 pounds because I liked it a little too much! And taking 20 minutes, eating and drinking at the same time.. that's stuff our generation was taught growing up, old habits are hard to brake.. but it can be done. I'm sorry you are frustrated.. but I hope I give you a new prespective.. maybe it will help put you in a better place.. Sent from my SM-J337AZ using BariatricPal mobile app -
Bariatric surgery was a big mistake
JanJan19 replied to Alvinchicago's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
If you were trying to warn people off bariatric surgery with this post I think you've done the opposite. For starters, I'm not even sure you're real. Second, if you got a major surgery such as this without doing any research... that's on you. Six food trucks and there was NOTHING you could eat? You sound like you're purposely being difficult because you're so angry. There were no hot dogs? Pull it off the bun and eat half. No big deal. A taco truck? Eat the meat & cheese, skip the shell. You are being purposely difficult in some attempt to punish everyone for your anger. Mother's Day - you couldn't go out for breakfast? Why on earth not? Assuming you were 4 weeks post op by then you could have ordered scrambled eggs with cheese and a side of cottage cheese instead of hash browns. IF the point of the holiday was to spend it with loved ones, that's what you do. If you're so mortified by the waitress asking if you enjoyed your meal ask for a to-go box the moment they set it down and pack up what you won't eat. You look like a fool carrying a water bottle - are you serious with this? American's have a drink in hand ALL THE TIME. Soda, coffee cups, frap cups. People are constantly walking around with drinks. Im not sure if I hope you're real or not. If you're not real, you are a real sad individual to come on here and troll people trying to improve their lives. Get a new hobby. If you are real... please get help. For the sake of your family, please. -
Bariatric surgery was a big mistake
JessLess replied to Alvinchicago's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Depression, and I believe regret could come from a similar place, is incredibly common after WLS. I hope anyone feeling down considers seeing a therapist and/or psychiatrist with experience with bariatric patients. Feel better and be well. -

Renewed, we read the Christmas story each year too. It's been a tradition in my family for a long time. We go over to my mom and dad's on Christmas day and we always read the Christmas story from the bible before opening gifts there. It's been a special tradition for me and I hope it will be for my son too. What a neat idea about getting 3 gifts....very cool!

Renewed - Great job!!! I know that was a major accomplishment. I just finished WK3 Day 1. I am really enjoying this. I see such improvements from week to week. Day to day for that matter. I could never imagine myself as a runner. I am not sure that I have earned that title yet, but I think I will earn it one day. For those of you who run outside. How many people run on a track? I run on my little one lane country road. But I seem to hit that blooming hill on a running interval. Boy does it kick my butt. I think next week I am going to have to hit the track. 5 minutes on my road might put me 6 feet under. Happy running!!!

Glad you're home Renewed! Take it easy and call me if you need me to update everyone for you. Praying you recover quickly!

Hi Everyone, I stumbled across this post and found the download for the C25K program. I was so excited! I have alwys dreamed of being a runner and my long term goal is to run the Royal Victoria Marathon 8k. I walked it at 305 pounds prior to my surgery and have also walked a 10k this past spring. Now that I am down 80 pounds I figured my knees can handle the run/jog. When I am on the elliptical trainer or treadmill I visualize myself running across the finish line. It was a real emotional vctory to do it at 305 pounds!! What a satisfying feeling! I read all the posts from beginning to today and I have to say YOU LADIES ARE AMAZING!!!! I am so inspired by you! I did day 2 of week one and it went really well. I am excited to take this on. My thoughts and prayers are with you Renewed as you go through this day and the days of adjustment to follow for you and your family. Bless you amazing ladies! :crying: Barb

Mamato3~ I feel your pain! Not running has been torture! The RICE thing really helped out with my knee. Hope your hip gets better soon. Renewed~ Girl, we are so much alike it's scary! I have battled with that all or nothing mentality for as long as I can remember. It has gotten a lot better but since I am not running, I find it's really hard to get into anything else. Some days I feel like just quitting everything but I'm trying really hard to push through it. It's a head thing. Glad you let your body catch up. I'm sure you will feel much better now! Sugar~ Good luck at your appointment! I hope your legs are healing nicely. Leslie~ I know, 70 laps is insane!! I could barely do ONE without stopping! It's so weird how different activities effect us in different ways. Kathy~ Enjoy golfing with DH! Kick his butt, lol!! Tootie and Jeannie~ Congrats on starting week 2! Ya'll don't worry too much about speed right now. It will come in time. Just go at a speed that you feel comfortable with. My knee was a little stiff last night from walking on the treadmill and I expected it to be really sore today, but it feels fine. Now I'm thinking I could have ran but I will try to refrain until my appointment. DH did week 1 day 1 of C25K last night. I am so proud of him! I've been 'hinting' that I wanted him to do it with me. I haven't 'hinted' in the last week or so, and without telling me, he downloaded the podrunner intervals and started doing it. I was so excited! He expected to be sore today but this morning he said he wasn't sore at all.

g-girl, I know what you mean about the wii fit hula hoop. I am doing the 6 minute segment (which gives you 7 minutes credit) and I TRIED 10 minutes and couldn't do it. i thought about starting a wii fit thread so we can go on and on about wii fit because I certainly could. I am still struggling with the Tree Pose even WHILE I am hanging on to a chair! I just cant keep my leg up there. The shoulder stand is CRAZY. I am getting better, but I am sure I look NOTHING like what my trainer does! I put in an hour on wii fit today. renewed-I am so glad things are working out for your kids and their placement. I will continue to pray for them and for you and your hubby. Leslie-I am sending anti-stall prayers your way! Thats very frustating! Thats usually when I would give up...BUT DON'T! However, some people do say "have a splurge for a day" and then you will start losing after that. Maybe that would work...either that or you would gain 3 pounds and be even more sad!!! So I don't have any answers for you, seems like everyone stalls at some point but don't give up! You will get there!

Same for me...I can't keep up with Renewed and Whosya, lol! My goal is to see just how far I can push myself and try to get in as many miles as possible. Let's keep up the good work guys!!

Any July 2011 Bandsters?
Tammy Shannon replied to LisaB68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What made me decide to do the lap-band? I've been wanting it for years. I lived in NE Florida until 2008. My insurance company there did not cover it and I could not afford it. Simple as that. Moved to Chicago...and everyone here knows 2-3 people who have had it or some form of bariatric surgery...so I thought why not? Insurance covered 100% of it, woo hoo! I'm looking forward to being healthy, not skinny. I want to be able to go ride my bike on the bike trails here with my family. To go up and down the stairs without huffing and puffing. Oh to be able to buy clothes in any store...my dream. I would love to be able to wear boots during the winter. I want to live a long life and enjoy my children and grand children (if they have any...but not right now). I want to feel good about myself for the first time in my life. Even when I was 104 pounds and 20 years old, I still had self esteem issues. After spending the second half of my life on the otherside, I realize that the problems are still there; skinny or overweight. I've worked on fixing the inside me...now time to make the outside reflect the inside. Day three of pre-op...no cheating. Lost 4 pounds, which is what is keeping me from sneaking a bite of something I shouldn't have. Everyone at my job knows I'm having the surgery...I'm not ashamed; proud to share. Anyway...my boss comes to me yesterday and asks if I want to go to Panera's for lunch tomorrow in between two meetings we have....really???? She forgot. I don't think she was being mean...she is actually one of my biggest supporters. Hope everyone has a great Wednesday!!! Pre-op'ers....stay focused on your goal. July banders...thank you for ALL your support. I feel very blessed to have you all around me. -
Post-Op January 2014 Losers Club!
path2me replied to Eroper6's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Congratulations everyone! I am 8 days out today. Feeling so much better, but am having some pain under right tube incision spot. Pain meds help, but am almost out. Not sure it's closing properly after tube removal. I think I'll have to go back to dr, make sure everything is ok and hopefully renew pain meds. Stitches should come out tomorrow or Wednesday. Overall though feeling pretty good. On full liquids now. Had watered down (and double strained to be sure) tomato basil soup yesterday. It was delicious! Could only eat 6 sm spoonfuls. So weird to be full like that. I'm already down 14 lbs and 5" around my belly!! Amazing. So happy the worst is over and the future looks so bright What flavorless protein powders do you use in soups? -
Vitamin / mineral Deficiencies with VSG
WL WARRIOR replied to Kindle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm experiencing low levels of Iron despite adequate supplementation and continually eating foods high in iron. According to my PCP, it is an effect of my screwed up hormones. My hormones have been wacky since surgery and it is also effecting my red and white blood cell count. It still is not clear to me why this is occurring, but it has never occurred before surgery. I feel quite tired throughout most of the day. I did skip my one year follow up because my PCP seemed like an adequate replacement. However, I have finally realized that a second opinion would be important. My bariatric center does NOT let patients visit with the surgeon, period. I can't even e-mail the guy. So, I am going to try out the new bariatrician. This is the third new guy they have hired since my surgery. I am hoping he has a better opinion of what is going on.
