Diet Soda at 9 months post op?

The issue with diet soda seems to be the artificial sweeteners trick your body into thinking you are eating something sweet, but you are not, and this can make you crave something that is sweet. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2892765/ https://www.usnews.com/news/health-care-news/articles/2018-04-23/study-artificial-sweeteners-linked-to-diabetes-obesity The chemicals in soda also leach calcium from your bones which is horrible for women, and especially anyone that has had weight loss surgery. There are a lot of reasons to give up diet soda. I drank Diet Coke for years, over 25! I hope to stay quit of the stuff for good!

    Why isnt it working?

My mum has had her lap band in for a few years now. She weighs around 130kg and hasnt lost a single kilo. She has had the band filled and unfilled, and it doesnt make any difference. The band has slipped up once and she had to have surgery to fix it, then it slipped down and had to have surgery to fix it. The specialist she has is very well known and has performed heaps of lap bands. My mum is the only "failure" he has had. She doesnt have any fluid in her band at the moment, yet cant keep anything other than water, tea, yoghurt and thin soup down. If she dares to eat anything else, she is vomiting for hours, no matter how much she chews it and how long it takes her to eat it. Has anyone else experienced this? What can she do now? She only become over weight in her late 30's and is now 55. She has never eaten "like a fat person" ie never eats junk food, chocolate, sweets etc. She is being treated for thyroid problems but all tests come back fine. Her cholesterol and blood pressure are also in the "normal" healthy ranges. So why no weight loss? Thanks for your comments.

    Tweek

I know about those big bites! I get stuck, too - too much! Even if I take smaller bites, if I do ANYTHING besides concentrate on chewing, then I forget to chew well enough!!! Arghhhhh. Do not worry about talking to the doc - look at how much weight you've lost! You're doing great! Good luck on that fill if that's what you end up doing!
  5. It shouldn’t matter but it did for me. Even post COVID with virtual visits so it made no sense but according to the insurance coordinator they would not accept my psychologists very detailed documentation because he didn’t weigh me each month. He documented my weight but didn’t weigh me himself. I am hopping It’s different for the OP but this was my experience.

    Frustrated!

I haven't had any Achilles issues, which is amazing since a torn Achilles ended my college football experience before it really got started. I did recently have had some rotator cuff issues in my shoulder which held up my triathlon training. I have 3 sports to train for so it did allow me to focus on the others. Weight training / core training is really good for you though and should still benefit you in running.
  7. Help! My hunger subsided for several weeks between 10 and 13 weeks or so, it was very manageable and normal and i had no gain. Now, it has returned very fiercely and I am craving all the bad stuff..Taco Bell, carbs, fries, etc. I don't know what to do, I'm already up a pound this week and don't wanna make it 2 lbs! The band has been a bit tight so maybe that's restricting my meal size a bit, but did anyone experience just major hunger at the start of 2nd trimester?

  10. Hi. I had my surgery on sep 14. Lost 30 up to today . I am stalling for 3 weeks maybe more. I meet my nutritionist for the first time after surgery . She told me I should take fruit and vegetable with my protein. My surgeon was so against fruit . She told me no fruit or just few berries only. But the nutritionist said the reason I do not Loos weight is because I had too much protein and no fruit or vegetable . How about you guys? Do you eat fruit ? How much a day ? Thanks
  11. There's a great solution do not tell ppl that act this way ppl that don't have the weight problem cannot understand if it was simple as just stop eating and go to the gym there wouldn't be a need for bariatric surgery it's the same as drug or alcohol addiction just stop drinking and taking drugs we gee that's so easy why do we have rehab then? I know it sucks but sometimes you just can't confide in ppl you must be your own cheerleader remember it's only your opinion that matters they aren't living in your body or with whatever issues you may have because if it they don't have to live with it you do don't listen to the opinions of ppl who cannot possibly understand the issue

    Average monthly weight loss?

The stretch marks are my issue, if not for those my skin would be rebounding. If I feel I can't live with the skin on my inner thighs and arms after losing all of my weight then I will just save up for one more procedure. Wow Ninaboo, I have had three children, twins and a single and i had stretch marks from my boobs to my knees! Awesome for you!!! Some of us are not so lucky!

Sleeve in Colorado - 33 bmi

I had the Lap Band and had to get it removed and revised to a sleeve. I wish I had not wasted so many years with the band but the sleeve didn't exist back then. I would strongly suggest you not go with the band due to the many cases of it being ineffective at weight loss as compared to the sleeve and bypass. If you are self-pay then your lower BMI should not stop you from getting the sleeve. Those BMI requirements are usually tied to insurance approvals. You should get a second opinion.

    Depressed?

You are doing great, please don't compare yourself to others because it really is something you can't control. Your body will lose at the rate it decides. Wanted to also mention that as you lose weight, all the hormones stored in the fat you're losing gets flushed back into your system and can cause epic mood swings - depression and anger and weeping are common throughout this time and could last months and months. Just a heads up so you don't freak out, and also just in case you already are feeling so down without really knowing why - don't get caught up in the feelings of worthlessness or depression because they are being ruled by that hormone dump right now!

    Exercise

I've been doing weights since the day I came home from the hospital. I got permission for 10 pounds or less. I walked for the first two weeks then went back to the gym but was told no twisty moves (like elliptical or dance classes). So it's been walking or treadmill mixed with light weights until I got clearance for full workouts (4 weeks? 6 weeks? I can't quite remember).

    Day 2 post op

Thx guys! yea I walked around the block last night but I too have loose stool and bad gas pains. I'm not physically hungry but more mentally but I'm so tired and bored. Can't care for my son or daughter, can't wash laundry or dust I'm a huge OCD freak so this is what I think gods testing me on. But today I woke up with more of the pain in my neck and chest still from the c2o and gas bubbles. I see my surgeon on Tuesday and hopefully I lost some weight lol.

    Chew and Spit

I must say I've been tempted because I had an empty stomach and was so hungry for just about anything. It helps to have your shake in your hand while you're around household foods. Don't linger in the kitchen when you know temptation is there. I cook dinner every day and remember the delicious taste of every ingredient and every bite; I talk and remind myself that this liquid diet is not forever. I will eat again one day soon, these same foods in smaller quantities. Be patient, remember your weight loss goal, and stay on track.

    Relationship changes

My boyfriend is very supportive. During my Psych eval, the dr did say that if your relationship is good before it will be fine, but if it was bad before surgery it will just get worse. He stated that even with the best of relationships your spouse will at times think about the weight you will lose and the thoughts of your cheating. Because we are all human and that's how we think. With my fella, I tell him to eat what he wants. Just because I am changing my eating habits, I don't want him to feel like he is having to miss out on the food he enjoys. I focus on myself and what I need to do and still allow him to feel like he isn't deprived. That way we are both happy:)

first picture 215 second picture 180

I honestly have to wonder how you can even be 180, swear you look atleast 30lbs lighter than that, if only I carried MY weight that well lol You look awesome though!
  23. Yoga and weights help build up the muscles to give tone to the skin. Stay out of the sun, tanning beds. Hot Water is not good for the skin, so cooler showers and stay out of hot tubs. Moisturizing seems to help, but there are no "firming" creams that have been shown to help (sorry, but there is no "cream fairy" to the rescue despite all the hype). Protein, water and pick your parents well, because genetics is the biggest factor.

    Anyone around 23?

Turned 23 in December, my birthday present to myself was my band. I was banded Jan 23. Sorry it didn't work out for you these complications scare the crap out of me especially knowing they are very common! So far so good though. I just hit my first short term goal which I wanted to do -25 by the end of March. Hoping for -25 more by the end of July. Don't know we will see! The sleeve is very good. I know a few people at my work (hospital) who have it and have lost a ton of weight. It melts off because they physically can't eat as much. They don't have to mess around with bandster hell and adjustments. I am just too chicken about the fact that they cut 75-80% of your stomach off. One of the main reasons I am doing this is to become body ready for a baby in a few years. I had a son 1 1/2 years ago who was stillborn due to many complications which aren't necessarily attributed to weight but definitely didn't help the situation. I want to be able to have an unfill when I do become pregnant. Good luck!!

    Weight Loss and Sadness

No, I've never been the victim of any sort of abuse. That is an interesting theory though. I think many of us (meaning obese and overweight individuals) use our weight as a sort of guard though. I'm not sure what I have been guarding myself from, but I have no doubt that my weight shielded me from something.
