  1. Also from TX - just had my Lap-band done on 9/11 (obviously not superstitious) and doing great. Preparation and information will help more than anything to get ready. Make sure you have your mind completely at peace about the procedure. Make sure you're ready to change everything about how and when you eat. Ask lots of questions and be ready to go on 10/1. We're excited for you and know you'll do great.
  2. I'm 10 months out today, and down 126 from HW. 14 lbs to goal, and loving my new life. I am currently 10 weeks pregnant with twins, and a little worried about gaining too much, and not being able to lose it. I'm snacking on the wrong things too! Slider foods are the easiest to eat right now (I have pretty bad morning sickness), but as soon as I can I am going to get back on track. I'm still doing water aerobics, but am worried that I'm not getting enough activity to keep up with my increased calories. How are you all doing?
  3. I was banded on 04/23/08 (15 days since surgery). I don't think I have totally followed the recommended post-op diet. I have been eating soft foods since about 10 days post-op. I am pretty much eating all foods accept junk food and fried foods. I have lost 11 lbs since my surgery date. A few days post-op I had no appetite and I felt full all the time. I had to make myself eat something. Then about 7 days post-op I was really, really hungry. About the 10th day, I ate some eggs and I had clam chowder for lunch (I went back to work 5 days post-op). I tolerated the meals with no stomach ache and I never had any nausea/vomiting. So I felt it should be ok to just eat things of that consistency. The only reason why I believe I am still loosing weight is because my portions are significantly smaller and I am eating healthier. I cannot eat a lot at a time (I get full really fast). Its been great because I've been eating what I want and just having a little makes me feel satisfied and full. What really gets me is that I actually want things that ae healthier. I have not called for my first fill appointment yet because I thought you can't get a fill until your weight loss has come to a halt. Is this true? Can someone elaborate more about the fill procedure? Does it always hurt? Resi [/img]
  4. I had my first fill today! I had my surgery 3/25 and suddenly felt like I was capable of eating much more and felt hungry more than I thought I should. I had my regular 2 wk appt today and told the doctor, thinking that he'd have me make an appt and instead he did it right there and then. Silly me, I had read a book and other things that made me think they had you go to the hospital for a fill so they could see the port through an xray, so I'd have time to prepare myself, but he just felt around and away he went. It hurt for a sec, I'm on liquids today and soft food tomorrow and back to regular stuff Friday. I did ask him "how much of a fill" did I have (I don't know if numbers matter but everyone seems to talk about how many cc's) and he didn't really answer the question. Its not that he ignored it, I think we just moved on, so I don't know if I will feel any different but he told me to call on Monday if I didn't and they would adjust it again, or to call RIGHT away if I felt at all uncomfortable. Though I want to lose it all now, he always asks "how long ago were you at a weight you liked?" My answer is about 10 years, so he tells me...if it took you 10 years to get here, it is going to take a reasonable and healthy time frame to get rid of it.
  5. Hi, Was operated on Tuesday 6/19. Felt pretty sore through Wednesday and Thursday. But today I have soreness only around port area and some bruising there. Could hardly tolerate anything first two days but have increased each day and I too am walking and it helps with the gas pain. I weighed myself yesterday(Thursday) already down 5lbs from day of surgery. I don't expect it to be that quick all the time but it felt good to see it on the scale right after surgery. Everything gets better with time. Stay strong, be faithful to the plan and things will be great!!!
  6. Need to loose 10% of weight before surgery where do I start. What works for you ? I have 12 weeks before surgery Help! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Long term

I was sleeved in August 2015. My weight the day of surgery was 349 and I currently weight 217 I'm 5'9. My goal weight is 165/170 depending on my clothing size. I always wanted to be a medium sized women's 10/12 and I'm a 16 now. I fell off the program a little bit and carbs have slowed my weightloss. I'm getting back on track with clean eating meal prepping and exercising moderately for 6 days a week with HITT cardio and strength training. I have 50 pounds to lose before I get to goal. Let's do this together and hold each other accountable.
  8. I only weighed myself a couple times/month in the beginning. I can actually remember each one.... day 1 of preop diet, day 11 of preop (to make sure I was losing what my surgeon required) surgery day postop day 5 (when I returned from Mexico) postop Day 11 (New Years Day) 6 weeks, 7 weeks, 10 weeks, and 3 months. Don't even know if I had the infamous 3 week stall! But I do know I gained 3 pounds between weeks 6 and 7 and still weighed the same at 10 weeks. Then randomly lost 13 pounds by the 3 month mark. Not weighing myself drove one of my friends crazy. She had bypass 8 years ago and she weighs daily. She couldn't believe I never knew my weight when she'd ask. It was fun torturing her ???? Ever since then I've weighed once/week so I have something to post on the challenges on here. I don't own a scale, so I weigh at work on the dog scale (after Breakfast and coffee), fully clothed with shoes or boots. No clue what my actual naked weight is. For me, NSV's mean so much more than numbers

  10. I think it's great that you are taking your role in the process so seriously...unfortunately that's not the case for many. My psych evaluation was in some ways offensive and in others ways comical. At times I was pretty sure that I was being punk'ed. I would have loved to have talked openly with a well prepared psychologist...but what I got was a quack that was doing an interview on the phone while I filled out my own mental health evaluation. My insurance covered the visit without question...infact, they paid for 9 visits that I didn't even attend! On my way out the door he told me that he was charging me for 10 visits but didn't want to see me again and handed me a stack of business cards to distribute to my friends!

    Another Saturday in the country

Well guess what..First day of winter vacay and I am sick. I am hoping its not the flu because my bones feel like they hurt. My band is tight as a 10 year old virgin! (sorry, but I have wanted to say that for a long time!) I suppose that's good because I don't think I will be burning many calories today. Getting my butt from the bed to the easy chair to the bathroom isn't exactly aerobic. I subscribe to a newsletter from Hungrygirl http://hungrygirl.com. She is a super peppy non banded (I think) chronic dieter. I know that she is financially hooked in with some of the companies she reviews, but her reviews are pretty straight on. She reviews new diet food and has come up with some good ones before I have heard of them elsewhere. Some of her recent rave reviews have been on the light double churned ice creams-haven't tasted a bad one yet (100-120 cals). Quaker Mini Delights in caramel drizzle (90) flavor. These are fantastic! She is fanatical about Fiber One and uses it for breadcrumbs in the recipies she adapts to make them low cal. She is also nuts about tofu shiratake noodles. While I suppose they don't taste too bad after cooking, when you open them they smell like old seafood. I just can't get past it. My new fave is using ranch dressing for a dipping sauce for anything savory. It packs a taste punch with just a bit. It also helps to "lubricate" food for us bandsters. Anyway-I got on this Hungrygirl topic because I ordered a case of Vitatops (muffin tops) http://vitalicious.com at a decent price through her website. They are really expensive, but I got 30 for $29. They have 5-6 grams of fiber and about 100 cals each and are enriched with vitamins. I know some people with bread issues might not like these, but they are delicious if you can tolerate this sort of thing. I had the peanut butter fudge for breakfast this am. So back to moping around garnering sympathy from my DH and DS. Trystelle

How Long Does The Surgery Take?

I was on the table at 8am, remember asking the recovery nurse the time at 10:20 and home by 11:30. Think the actual surgery was about 1hr-1hr15m. I was on the operating table for a bit while they did the IV and hooked me up to the monitors.
  14. Hey folks, just wanted to give an update! 8 Months out, down 90 pounds from surgery, completely loving my sleeve. Still can't recommend Dr. Illan enough!! I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Only 10 pounds from Onederland! Starting to think about plastic surgery for the darn extra skin, but I wouldn't change anything.

    Getting closer and having doubts

Hi, this is my fist time posting. I guess at this point I am ready to begin posting as I finally have a surgery date scheduled for 4/22/15. I am eager and nervous... Eager because I am excited for a new chapter of my life to begin but nervous as I am not in fear of this procedure but that I have two toddlers who love mommy's hugs and cuddle time! I've contemplated holding off until their a little older, but, I feel if I do, I will regardless be prolonging the inevitable and start to a healthier lifestyle! I'm 5'2" @ 225 (good days) 232 others... I've lost about 10 lbs while attending the program before being cleared for surgery. I could absolutely use any help or feedback with anyone who has gone through a similar situation as mine having kids...

    May 5th Surgery time

Omg yes small world, and yes Mercy was the hospital. I was let go at about 10:20 Wednesday morning. Wednesday was ok pain wise cause of morphine still in my system. Come Thursday say 1 or so in the morning, all hell breaks loose in my body (my mind really) lol. I had my first stomach acid reflux attack. I was so scared to vomit. I didn't thank goodness, but nonetheless it was still traumatic. I was praying to the powers that be, for a miracle healing right then and there.. Well the powers helped but I was still in some pain. Each day gets better, pain is still there but I'm able to mover more comfortably. I'm just taking it as slowly as possible with anything. And that seems to work. I'm down 16 pounds from 2week pre-op and another 10 from surgery this week, so a total of 26 pounds yay me.. Thanks for reaching out. I'd love to stay in contact ????
  18. I had surgery on a Monday morning, went home Tuesday early evening. On Wednesday my mom drove me to Walgreen's & the grocery store. I walked around both pushing a cart and felt fine. I drove (mom was passenger) on Thursday. I didn't take anything stronger than Tylenol after Wednesday at noon. Returned to work 10 days post surgery and felt fine. Perhaps a bit tired by the end of the day, but really not too bad. Making yourself get out of the house, walking, drinking your fluids and getting enough Protein is key to having energy and feeling good.
  19. Hey! So my name is Mary and I'm 21 years of age. I'm new to this..and very nervous. I really don't know what to say. I just scheduled my surgery for Aug. 11 with Dr. Ortiz in Mexico. I leave for T.J. on Sunday, Aug. 10 and come back home on Wednesday, Aug. 13. For those that are questioning prices (as which I did), the total cost is a little less than $8,000. This covers surgery, pre-op tests, hospital stay as well as 2 nights at a 5 star hotel, and transportation to and from San Dieago Airport. I think it is a pretty sweet deal  Umm...so a little background about me. I currently work for an airline, so I have free travel benefits. I can fly down to San Dieago and back for nothing. However, a week after my surgery will be my last week with the company. I received a new job with the FAA as an air traffic controller and will be going to government training at the end of August. Here comes my tricky part. I want to get the surgery done before I quit so I have the free flights, and also my training consists of Monday thru Friday and definently no days off allowed. However, I will be relocating from Kentucky to Oklahoma, where the training is held. That is for 3 months, and then I will be relocating to Stockton, CA to start my career. I'm going to try to get down to T.J. at least for my first fill while in Oklahoma, but not sure if that is going to be possible. I'm going to need to find a fill doctor in Oklahoma, and then in Cali. I feel like it would be smarter to wait off...but I will get this surgery done and then be able to relax in a class room for 3 months. Well, anyways that is me. I hope that didn't sound stupid lol.

    Getting A Head Start.

I'm getting sleeved on June 11th....I have my last pre-op appt on May 22nd, that's when the NUT suggested I start...so I'll be on the pre-op diet for almost 3 weeks (its my own fault, my doctor took some Fluid out of my band in Feburary because I was starting to get really bad acid reflux, and I've gained 10 pounds ( ) I've bought alot of sample packets from bariatric pantry.com as well as CHIKE.. I'm in Houston, Texas, my surgeon is Dr. Yu
  22. Hi Bariatric Friends ...... I would like to lose approx. 28 kgs. I have just lost 9.5 kgs. in 10 weeks with Slimming World. I have been discussing Bariatric Sleeve surgery but my daughter is so against me having it done. She says that I will never again be able to enjoy a family meal or a meal out .... that I am not heavy enough to have Bariatric Surgery .... that I can lose this weight by watching my food intake and not necessarily having a bariatric sleeve, which is quite drastic. I have a neurological auto-immune illness, which has caused my weight gain - I was very thin until the onset of this illness. I am on lots of (weight inducing) medication. I am going to be taking this medication for life. I am now wondering whether Bariatric Surgery or basic diet change is the way to go. There is no guarantee that I will lose weight even if I become anorexic because of my illness and the associated medication. Would you recommend surgery or just diet management for my situation. If I could get my jaws wired for a time I could find out if I'm going to lose enough weight to make me happy ...... Thanks in advance for your advice ....... I'm very confused !!

    My RNY journey

Hey, I was kind of reluctant to share my story but, I think it’ll be good for me. I’m 2 weeks and 5 Days post-op. I had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass on 9-19-17. I spent two nights in the hospital. When decided to have gastric bypass surgery I was 331 lbs. The day of surgery I was 311 lbs. I am currently 297. Surgery actually went fine and there were no complications. I was in pain but that’s normal right after surgery. When I came home, again I was in pain but I was given hydrocodone for relief. As the pain started to go away I was able to do more. I was walking fine, getting out of the house, just simply getting back to my normal routine. Eating was a little difficult at first but transitioning into the different stages got easier to deal with. Of course, everyone is different but the earlier stages is where you find out what foods you can eat with no problem and what foods you can’t keep down. This past week, my pain began to increase where my main incision site is. I can’t lay in bed, get out of bed, tie my shoe laces, or pick anything up off the floor. The hydrocodone had finished so my dr suggested I take a liquid form of over the counter pain reliever ( which worked for 30 minutes at a time). I called my Dr once again because the pain had gotten so bad. He had prescribed me tramadol. Currently I’m taking tramadol and I’m pretty much still in pain. My 1-month post-op appointment is on the 18th with my surgeon and I’m hoping the pain subsides by then. How long has your pain lasted? How many of you get emotionally overwhelmed by the pain? -Christine D-
  24. All of this. I'm very proud of how far I've come, relieved that I don't get gawked at when I go out in public now (when I was almost 400 pounds people would stare. I hated that), and being able to fit in something that I buy off the rack without having to actually try it on and it looking GOOD! (that was rare before my weight loss. I'd try on a dozen things and be lucky if I like even one of those dozen things. Now everything fits and my problem is deciding what I want and since I'm still losing to try to not buy too much because I'm likely to go down at least 1 or 2 more sizes. I figure with the way my clothes are fitting right now if I lose another 5 pounds I'll be in a different pants size and another 10 for a different shirt size)
