Fears! Need your Help!
ranchersdaughter replied to karaserene1985's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You sound so normal it's scary! Lol! Like you, I had the same fears and trepidations. One day after I lost a whole nights sleep worrying about all the negatives that "might" happen, I just dropped to my knees and gave it all to God. I told Him point blank that this was in His hands and if He saw fit to see me through or not, that I would respect His decision. My mind has been at peace ever since. I know not everyone has these convictions, but it worked for me. Something else that someone told me before surgery has also helped...... "You're 98% more likely to get in a car wreck any day of the week, than you are to have complications or die from this surgery!" Breathe deep, write down everything you can about the surgery that you can think of or that you have read or learned in your research. Write down the good, the bad and the ugly and keep your mind open!!! Do not let fear sway you to thinking negatively, and I think you will find that the good FAR outweighs the bad! I'm 10 days post-op and feel FANTASTIC!!! I would do it again in a heartbeat and I'm more than happy to answer any questions you might have, or simply lend a quiet ear if you need to vent or get things off your chest! Welcome to the family!! Another protein shake question
Wannabeskinnie posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had my last class today, and the more I think about it, the more confused I get lol. I have read many delicious recipes for protein shakes, but many include peanut butter or bananas or sf pudding mix, etc.. My program says I need to have protein shakes for 3 weeks after surgery....is it ok to include the extras during this 3 weeks or do I simply have to gave protein shake mixed with milk/ water? -
When can I take tablets/capsules? (If ever)
TxDumplin replied to Pam Peltz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I cut mine in half until i was about a week out. -
I'm so sorry! There's someone posting in the January surgery forum that's going through the same thing, though i think her surgery is a week from Monday instead of Monday. Time's getting pretty tight for a recovery. Have you talked to your surgeon's office? Have you seen a regular doctor? I think the likelihood of cancellation depends somewhat on the nature of the illness and how well it responds to treatment. If you go in to the doc, you may be able to get a massive dose of antibiotics or other treatment to speed things along.

FIRST post op appointment today and the weight loss is..............
CraftyChristie replied to Lillie24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great job!! I had lost 18 at my first week appt. Can't wait to find out what it will be at 3 weeks! -
Relax, this is so normal. I lost 12 lbs the first two weeks and then nothing for the next 3.5 months. You're still in the healing phase. Many of us don't lose weight and lose our appetite till our bands are adjusted and we're exercising. If you're not consuming enough Protein your body will tear down muscle and use it for fuel.

Feel Like Giving Up
Pinky Green replied to Ms.Rosie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also losing the weight somewhat slowly after the initial 20 pounds. I have lost 32 pounds since starting the 2 week liquid pre-diet - that was September 12th. That's 10 and a half weeks. My doctor thought I should have lost more. But that is still an overall average of about 3 pounds a week. If I even lose 1.5 pounds a week after a year I will have lost 78 pounds. That would put me down from 240 to 168. Another 26 weeks would make that 39 pounds more putting me at 129 pounds and under my doctor's goal of 130. Today is a really great milestone. I was able to get up and dance for 2 songs. I danced to the video on my laptop to Rolling Stones - Brown Sugar (3:33min) and then my boyfriend put on Cyndie Lauper's Girls Just Want to Have Fun (3:54) and I danced to that too. . I have not done that in at least 4 years. We are going to the park in a minute. I'm going to walk around the park. It's a big loop around several soccer fields that informal groups go to play "futbol". If anyone in Houston reads this and would like to form a walking group I would be interested. Or if someone wants to meet up to dance or ride bicylces - or swim. If you are interested message me and I will send you my phone number. -
Whatever you do, don't give up!!! I've had two major stalls since my surgery at the end if June. Each lasted 3/4 weeks and it gets frustrating because of the expectations we place on ourselves for the surgery, I'm learning that's not the way to think. I just broke that second stall. I'm here to say it will get harder mentally if you start letting yourself think like old you. I don't mean just the food habits. I mean, you are strong, you are worth it! Keep staring down your goal and you new lifestyle! It's so worth it! I have to become a snob about food to keep myself on track the best. When I see junk food, I start making myself think, "eww, you put that in you body!? Do you know what's in it? All those chemicals and..." You get the idea. I politely refuse any that is offered. Just don't give up!!!

Question about vomiting
LoserHeather37 replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a stomach virus this past week and immediately called my bariatric doctor. They told me that once I stop vomiting and can start eating again to just have warm liquids the first couple of days and then move to mushies for a couple of days. I'm not a doctor, but seems to me that if you have a stomach virus, it's best to get it out of your system and not just take meds to make you not throw up. I know the dangers of vomiting, but you can't go the rest of your life popping a pill to keep from throwing up, can you? I don't know, this, like almost everything else having to do with the band, is different among doctors. -
What do you do when you haven't seen reached goal weight and your spouse says if you loose anymore weight it will be a problem? What do you do when your friends and family say you are getting too skinny? What do you do when you have expensive suits and clothing that you don't want to let go of but can't fit? What do you do when you loose first your assets that made you feel sexy i.e. Round booty to droopy booty, plump breast to sagging breast? I'm 9 months out 233 SW 216 CW 157, I've come across many stalls and have been staying at consistent weight for 3 months now. It takes a toll on me as if my spouse will still have an attraction towards me if I loose anymore weight. Is it selfish of me to say screw my spouse feelings and put me and my goals first?

Great to see you guys. Well done on your progress. I finally went to buy new clothes last week and I am down from a 26 to an 18 in pants and from a 24 to 14 in tops. Feels good to wear clothes that fit! It has been a stuggle at times and I hate when a PB shows it's ugly head but I would do this whole thing again. It's the best decision I ever made and I shout about it to the whole world. I am half way to my goal and I can't wait to get there. Any other November 2005 kids out there? Don't be shy. We still need to stick together!

Is this restriction, eating too fast or food doesn't agree with me????
Forensikchic replied to Sunny702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am four weeks out and I get that feeling when I eat too. Most of the time I get it when I eat too fast. If I slow down and take small bites, wait in between for a minute or two, I dont get it as much. You are right... if that is the new full feeling, its WAY different than the full stomach feeling we all know and love. I am just trying to learn mine too and I hope this helps some. I think if we slow down some, measure the food if we need to and take smaller bites, it will be easier to tell when we are satisfied, not full. -
I am 3 weeks and 4 days and I am so sick of shakes. I had tilapia today. It was blackened.

I am 2 weeks out, physically I feel okay (a little pain at incisions, but that is it) but emotionally I am on edge. I used to spend my nights watching TV with my laptop on my lap and munching on junk food, now that isn't cutting it for me. I want to go-go-go, but not sure where to go or what to do! I guess I need to get a hobby or start a new project but am clueless as to where to start! And I would have to do it alone because hubby works so much overtime that he comes home and crashes and has no energy to do anything. I am sure this is an adjustment period and I will get through it, but it is a byproduct I wasn't expecting!

The feelings you're having are pretty normal at the stage you're at. I think the depression (to an extent), the fatigue, the "remorse" are nothing more than your body reacting to the fact that it's not getting what it's used to in terms of foods (good or bad) at this very moment. I noticed a very large change in attitude at about the end of the week 2 mark and it's gotten better and better every week since. Embrace the positives. Look at what you've accomplished so far. Grasp onto that, try new things. Some of the foods you thought you didn't like before you may now, and vice versa. It's amazing how our tastes change after the surgery. I couldn't eat anything overly sweet, and things that didn't taste too sweet or too salty to me before surgery were amplified by what seemed to be 100% after surgery. Best thing for me, honestly. If you told me even a week before surgery that there would be days I would actually be craving a salad, or a few slices of a tomato, I would have probably told you that you were crazy. I've always liked those things, but never craved them. Now, the healthier I eat, the more I crave healthier foods. You can succeed and looking at your progress, I'd say you already are. Stick with it...it really does get better!!! Best of luck!

Feeling a bit dizzy and nauseated ...question
stcyt replied to mp8btpc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got that way off and on for about 6 weeks. I think I just wasn't taking in enough nourishment. Now I eat more... not too much more... but I am learning about what my body needs and getting better at listening to myself. Also its easier to eat than it was in the begining. Eventually all that weakness and dizzyness goes away... hang in there stacey -
What Is "normal" Pain
ab76307 replied to peacequeen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is where your stomach came out... They place an extra stitch there so every time I moved it pulled/ stringed but the pa told me it was totally normal. It lasted about a total of four weeks until the stich dissolved. -
Nausea And Vomiting. Does It Ever Stop?
iegal replied to Twyla's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call your surgeon who performed VSG surgery and let them know what is happening. Next are you on a PPI? This might help. While I experienced nausea those first two/three days, I never became dehydrated enough to be hospitalized. Yes, I saw foam & bile that 2nd day. To help me drink, I dribbled room temperature liquid down my throat in small dosages, using a shot glass so as to ensure small dosages using G2 (sugar-free) Gatorade or slightly warm decaf peppermint tea to settle my stomach. Did this every 15 minutes all day long to make sure I drank that goal of 64oz. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. -
Thank you. I came into work today still feeling a little lightheaded. Forced myself to walk and felt a little better. When I got back to my desk I found out that most of my team has been sick since last week. I didn't know that and now I know why I wasn't feeling well.

Is this restriction, eating too fast or food doesn't agree with me????
LilMissDiva Irene replied to Sunny702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How far out from surgery are you? I remember getting those pains too for the first 2-3 weeks post op. I would even take tiny sips, wait in between - it just didn't matter. Every swallow hurt. If this is what's happening to you, just know that it's quite normal in a lot of us and it will go away in a few weeks. Continue to take tiny sips, or itty bitty bites, wait a little between each one and definitely measure your portions. *hugs* -
Hi everyone. I am new to this board but so glad to have found it. I am from Leavenworth Kansas and am about to have my gastric sleeve surgery on 9/7/17. I am hoping you can help me figure out if I screwed up. I bought the Muscletech Premium whey isolate protein powder for my two week liquid diet. It was the only one with the lowest fat and carbs. I need to know if this is okay to use as we don't have a lot of money and I can't really afford to buy more. Thanks everyone.

The thing is people focus to much on feeling restriction and not enough on eating correct. I am less then 2 months post op and down 65 lbs. It has not been easy. I go to the gym 4-5 days a week for 1 hour of cardio. I also am eating 800-1200 cal a day. That is it no snacking no soda very little carbs. I do nto have as much restriction as I should but I have learned to eat to live and not live to eat. You should start looking at all lables and working out 3 days a week start slow 15-30 min is all you need. I know it will work. I have a almost non existing matabolism but with the right caloric intake and exercise the weight will come off. Just keep your head up.

6 months pre op diet Fail
Sosewsue61 replied to starshine123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do your best. I used a free app called Baritastic to track my food. The pre-op is mainly to make you aware of your food choices, to examine your relationship with food, teach you nutrition, and for you to gradually stop bad habits. You have to look at how you use food - are you hungry or bored, anxious, stressed, etc so you can change from using food to solving those issues to solving them without food. It's hard, but your head needs fixing first or you will resort to these behaviors after the surgery. Stopping junk carbs will keep the cravings down, if you keep going back to them it just starts all over again. Give up one thing each week and build on that - I quit soda 1st thing - none, not even diet. Then - no fast food - none, zero. Then gradually let go of starchy carbs - no rice, etc. You may lose a few pounds, or stay the same. The most important thing is to realize food is just food, it will always be there, there is plenty of it, you will have a bite or two of your favorite foods during maintenance. This diligence is forever. You can do it.
