Any August 2019 people out there?

As @vovo2013 mentioned, I would get the sleeve because of the reflux. I didn’t even have any issues with reflux but after my sleeve, I developed severe GERD and I’m now revising to the RNY mainly because of GERD. Whatever decision you make, I wish you great success and health!

    WLS and Clothes

I cannot answer your question as I haven't bought anything but socks and underwear from WM in many years, I have to buy FR (Fire Retardant) clothes for my work so I just wear those jeans for everyday clothes as well, shorts, sweats, shirts, etc...I buy online. BUT, I just wanted to give you a huge congrats!!!! I know the feeling as we have almost the exact same stats. I was up to 420 in 2015, am 5' 10''. I was up to a 54 waist also. I am currently in a loose 40 and saving pennies for some 38s. I had a bunch of stuff, down to 36 because I had lost down to 190 but when I gained a bunch back (up to 330) I got pissed/depressed/whatever, and gave all my smaller clothes away....again. I had my revision from sleeve to bypass in June and now having to keep buying all these clothes all over again. Anyway, congrats on the amazing weight loss, keep it up.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I'm getting sleeved in Puerto Vallarta on December 12th. I will be revising from the band to sleeve. CW is 254 lbs and I'm 5'4" and 33 years old. My highest weight pre band (2005) was 293 and I got down to 209 for a split second before my band slipped and was then replaced. My GW is 150-160 lbs. Looking forward to getting to know you all while we anxiously await this new journey
  4. Highly recommend Dr Ponce De Leon in TJ, MX his price is $4500 ($5000 revision) There are a lot of excellent drs in TJ. PM if you want more info. Good luck on your search

Let's Check In November 2012 Sleevers!

As we all embark on this new journey. IT IS OUR TIME!! I have the upmost respect, hope and appreciation for all of you regardless of being new to WLS or revision. We all know each others sturggle as we have all been there. I want you wish you all blessings and the best along this road although it will be tough for some and not so much for others I will do my best to be a shoulder to all who will need it because Im going to need it. I thought I could do it alone with the lapband but that was not the case. I find it you need to know the struggles and success of others to help you along the way. Its nothing like having family but its more benefical to have somebody that knows what your going through especially in the weight game. All be blessed and happy journey to getting to know the new you... HUGS B.
  6. Staple line leak for 1st time WLS patients is low. Staple line leak for revisions from band to sleeve is much higher because the staple line goes through a previously scarred tissue and scar tissue doesn't heal like un-scarred tissue. I trust my surgeon, she's been the one of the top surgeons in our state for almost 2 decades. She would have referred me to another surgeon if I really wanted the band to sleeve revision. But after her explanation as to why it's not a smart idea, I agreed with her and decided that revising to something that's riskier wasn't the best idea. So, I went with the RYN because that staple line does not transverse the scar tissue created by the band, thus, no increased leakage potential. Clearly it's each patients choice. But knowing about the band to sleeve revision's potential issues is a good thing.

Perspectives on Losing Fast & Slow

Thank you for sharing that. That's really helpful. I don't have my surgery date yet but I'm in the last leg of my approval process and i know my process will be a long road too. When i attended the class for the RNY surgery i felt uncomfortable just because i felt others were wondering why are you here. I am a revision patient due to GERD and the damage it's caused internally. I need to lose at least 90lbs and to me that's a significant amount. But to others not so much. So i fully understand that we all have different journeys. I guess the important thing is to know your journey, don't get discourage when others lose weight at a faster pace than us and celebrate each accomplishment. 8. There is an article in Newsweek, July 25, 2011 issue called 15 Leaders in Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Ortiz appeared to me to have the most experience of all of them! Because I did consider staying in the states and getting my revision from band to sleeve and use my health insurance. In the end I chose to go back to dr Ortiz because I like him, the center was familiar, he ONLY does bariatric surgery and he has a lot of experience plus the ICE rating. The surgeon in my city just started doing bariatric work in March 2013, and still does general surgeries as well. I included a pic of the article but if you can't find it on the internet I could scan it for you. Good luck making a choice!
  9. Hello again OCC Sleevers! I have NOT been able to speak to drs again, but through the grapevine it appears that the sleeve is the recommendation for lap band revisions. I am looking at a surgery date of either Monday of April 14 or 21.... Anyone from here having surgery those days? Also, this is a huge group of posts... Anyone remember which ones contain all the best pre-op info or where is the best place to get it? OCC sends a bit if limited info on the pre diet, but I know the forums are where the details are Thanks for support and replies to this post Rhonda

Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the OCC

My husband and I are both being sleeved (me - lap band revision) the 29th at OCC. Anyone else getting sleeved the same time and surgeon?
  11. they must have revised their prices then as when I was 'shopping around' for a band surgeon in June they were more expensive than TLBC. I hear good reports on both clinics

    Band slipped

Good luck If it was me I would get the band replaced, just because it slips once doesn't mean it will happen again. Or i would revise to a sleeve. I know that there is no way I could maintain without some kind of help. Why did you go for the upper GI if you had no symptoms? What made the Dr think that the band had slipped?

    September sleevers wanted!

hi - I have a 9/21 date - but plan to call on monday and take the 9/7 date if it's still open. I am a revision from band to vsg - and have 100 pds to loose
  14. i was banded march 2008 and revised to a sleeve in 2010. i lost a total of 100 lbs and had a TT in may and they took 6.1 lbs of skin. prior to my TT i wore size 10-12 and now i wear 4-8, depending on where i shop
  15. It's a very personal question. I was at first leaning toward the band, then gastric plication, and I ended up doing the sleeve. I found a lot of people have complications with the band, and there are so many other costs involved (fills, follow up appointments, getting the band removed etc), I decided against plication because it doesn't remove grehlin and I couldn't imagine having a tiny stomach capacity but still being hungry all the time. I felt the sleeve was best for me because it doesn't re route other organs, it has a short 'down' time, and also because it can be used as a stepping stone surgery, so in the future it is still possible to get revised fairly easily to the DS or bypass if VSG is not 100% successful. I felt that I wanted to do something that was not overly invasive or complicated, and that I wanted a surgery that I could recovery quickly from. I felt all around for me, VSG fit the bill. Here are some charts that helped me early on to compare the different weight loss surgeries available. Maybe they will help you too. Good luck on whatever you decide! http://www.bariatric-surgery-source.com/types-of-bariatric-surgery.html#Comparison

I have failed my band - SUPPORT GROUP

Hi Beth, I am SOOOO Glad to hear the fill went well!!! and hopefully you have some good restriction that will help with the quantity restriction. I dont have good restriction right now hence I can eat as much as I can, so I am working, fighting daily to keep my calories in place. I just had port revision and once I heal, I hope to get a fill and more restriction. But I definitely am getting full with 2 cups of food which to me, is still good because on my pre-band days, I could eat a 12 oz steak (always medium-well) with mashed potatoes and corn on the cob or veggies and wipe the plate CLEAN!!! :grouphug: Let me know how it goes this thanksgiving with the Snacks and if you are able to stick to the goal of a little of everything. I havent had to face the food demons yet as we havent had dinner yet - I will keep you posted!!! GOAL for today - To write everything I eat down even if I didnt do as well - have to write the good and the bad and to stay within 1500 calories. LapBanders - What Multivitamins do you take and where do you get them from???? Thanks for joining me Beth - we can do this. Any other strugglers out there??? :grouphug:

    Brigham and Women/Faulker Hospital

Nota I was so worried about you and I am glad that your surgery went well and you still have your band. How you doing now? We were never sure when my slip happened but I was living with it for a long time, I was unfilled and still had major pb issues on solid food. I wasn't an emergency like you were as I waited 3 weeks for my revision and new band. BTW I had the old 4cc band that they no longer make...interesting isnt it? When I'm having a hard time losing I sometimes think that getting by-pass would be so easy but like you I chose this surgery for a reason. I'd rather not have all of the major complications that come with the other types of surgeries. If the band somehow fails me again I may consider it but for now I am healthy. Oh and it helps that the person that I knew who had bypass that made me second guess myself... has gained back weight. Not sure if I can go to the next meeting

    Thread Killers

Ah, That was actually the best attempt yet to kill this thread. Make a deliberate and snide "for real" attack. Bravo. I say that now we just charge on madly and ignore that snide-aside and try and kill this thread in a much more entertaining fashion. *steps up to the plate* I recommend RNY Revisions for everyone!!
  19. Hi Giselle; At my clinic TLBC it costs $16,000 incl Gst. for the Lapband and any proceedures for life. At SWLC in Mississauga its $17,000 plus Gst. don't know how long you are covered for subsequent fills and revisions(if necessary) DrWatkins Gastric Band Surgeon Join Date: Dec 2007 Posts: 98 We adjust all bands (including the new Ethicon REALIZE band) at our Chicago clinic in Oak Brook, IL. September sleevers wanted!

I'm scheduled for my revision on September 27th!! Would like to lose 140....but would be thrilled to lose 120~!!!! Debra
  21. I work for insurance and also have Highmark pa, it all depends on your benefits and if your employer chose to cover revisions. If they didn't choose yes or no either way, it would come down to medical necessity and medical policy. If you call your insurance, they will send you the medical policy just for reference. I have failed my band - SUPPORT GROUP

I had my lap band done in 2008. Since then I have lost weight, gained it back, lost weight again, and then gained it all back again. I believe the weight loss that I have experienced has been due to me starving myself, not to the band. Starving myself is not sustainable and as soon as I start to eat regularly again, I gain about 30 pounds. I am currently at my highest weight (even pre-band. I was banded at 202 lbs) 206 lbs. I have had some trouble with my band. I can only be filled about half-way before I have trouble getting food down. My band doesn't have much liquid in it and it causes me to vomit/pb frequently. Right now I still vomit a few times a week even though my band isn't filled much. Food gets stuck daily for me. I used to have terrible guilt feeling that I had failed my band. Everyone knew I had the band done, so why hadn't I been able to lose a substaintial amount of weight and keep it off? Why was I such a failure? Well, after doing some research, I have come to the conclusion that I haven't failed the band, THE BAND HAS FAILED ME!!! Surgeons are starting to find that the band isn't as successful as they thought it would be. Many people are having their bands revised to the gastric sleeve and some RNY gastric bypass. My surgeon is at the top of the field, a famous weight loss surgeon. His staff is nice to me, but they make me feel guily when I go in. I need to eat less and less, they say. My surgeon recommends for me to eat 900 calories a day. 900 calories! This is madness!!! I am now in the process of contancting a different surgeon about gastric bypass and gastric sleeve. I have severe obstructive sleep apnea, high LDL cholesterol, and have stopped menstruating (I'm only 32). I believe my weight is a contributing factor in these issues. Ladies, I know that some of you feel you could have done better. You feel you could have followed more of the rules, eaten less, snacked less, starved yourself, whatever. But, I want you to seriously consider this idea that maybe the band isn't all it is cracked up to be. Maybe it works for some and not for others. Maybe, the band has failed you!
  23. HI there I go to South San Fran Kaiser and I'm having my revision surgery on 6/18 to the sleeve. I only have to pay my $20 copay for my surgery as well. I was banded in 2008, had a baby in 2011 and since then nothing but issues any time we try to fill my band. It has taken me 3 years to say yes to revision based on my own worries but after putting back on most of my weight I know it's time. We did document everything we did, new upper GI, fill/unfill band, went on the pre op diet and still had issues and I believe because of the issues I was able to get approved so quickly (decided on 4/29/14 and got my date that same day for surgery).
  24. I should add that per the terms of my insurance, I paid $500 for the band to sleeve revision through Kaiser.

    January 2013 Sleevers?

Congratulations on the 12 pounds! That's excellent!! I can't wait to have my surgery. I recently, since the holidays have gone back on the myfitness pal app and I am really trying to stick to a healthier diet and more mindful eating. Ever since losing the band it opened up a new world again of eating for me and i could eat everything again.. ( very bad) You should be happy you didn't have to experience that with a 1 step revision surgery. :-)
