What revision did you have?

I'm nearly a month out from my revision. I lost a few lbs of water weight shoeing the first well and and some then NOTHING. I'm doing everything by the book and I'm deeply frustrated.

Amazing weightloss! I was a band to sleeve revision on 4/27/15 and have went from 211 down to 174.... so u are doing awesome in my book! It is hard for some ppl to take off the fat suit mentally. I agree with previous reply. ... buy an outfit that truly fits and take a picture. Look at it over and over, remind yourself that this thin person has been there all along!!!

@@lyndsayc21 If you haven't already take a class on the differences between the surgeries. One big reason to consider bypass over sleeve or lap and is whether or not you suffer from reflux/Gerd. The sleeve and band can make this illness much worse potentially requiring a revision to bypass down the road. In some cases, the sleeve and Lapband caused someone who never got reflux/Gerd to get it. Bypass in most cases cures this disease. If you don't suffer from reflux/Gerd then the sleeve may be the right choice for you. I have seen many many people lose just as much weight with the sleeve as one who has bypass.

Hey y'all! I had my revision from a lapband to a sleeve on Monday.I agree with teitei636's description of the pain. When I was in the hospital, it felt like I had done too many stomach crunches. The gas pain that I'm feeling whether I'm drinking something or not feels like muscle spasms. Don't get me wrong, it hurts. But I think I was expecting to feel like I had been cut and that's not how it feels at all. -
Lap Band & port removed 4 days ago with post op picture

Overall, RNY has been positive! With anything there can be setbacks. I developed a ulcer early out but that resolved. I had some issues with fatigue which hopefully is gone for good. The usual issues you probably see on the forums such as constipation, taking Vitamins daily and watching nutrition intake is ongoing at this point. I am 10 months out so I am still learning my body. I am not in maintenance phase yet. As far as weight loss, it's been good. I'm about 20 pounds from my goal weight. I don't know what your food vices are but I cannot tolerate any high sugary foods which is a big deal for me. I did have the revision & removal at once but I think it's great that your surgery date is coming up. At least you will be healed like you said and ready for the bypass. BTW my joint pain, high blood pressure and pre-diabetes is gone so it's been good. You will have to experience it to totally understand what I mean but I feel if people need RNY it's a great option. That's awesome! How did you develop an ulcer? What were your symptoms? Were you on any antacids prior to revision? My biggest weakness is sugar, especially ice cream. Which Calcium supplement do you take? I have been taking sublingual B12 and Vitamin D as a liquid drop. My current Multivitamin is a one a day gummy but I know that I will most likely have to switch to a chewable with the RNY. Which ones do you take? Do you have problems with constipation with RNY? I definitely don't want that to occur. I have a history of diverticulosis, with my first attack about 1.5 years ago and that was horrible! I take a Fiber gummy daily for that too. What do you do to prevent that? That is great that you are feeling better! 20 pounds to goal is awesome!!! I bet you are so excited! -

Hi Everybody! I was sleeved back in 12/2011 by Dr. Wynn. I'm considering a revision as I feel like my weight loss surgery failed. At my peak I lost 35 lbs. Over the last 4 years I've slowly crept back up. Thinking about going to the support group. I didn't do my follow ups like I should have because I didn't feel like I was doing a good enough job. Anyone know of anyone else who had a revision due to reasons like my own? Thanks!

@@Trayjay33 I completely agree with you about the insurance thing. How have things been going with your RNY? It sounds like you were able to get your band removed and RNY in the same surgery which is great! My insurance company is making me do this in 2 surgeries. They still consider the revision as a whole new surgery and I have to go through the 5 month supervised physician diet, which I have been doing since April of this year. I knew their requirement, so now I really don't need to wait. I am just waiting to give my body time to heal from this removal. How has your recovery been and any problems along the way? How has your weight loss been? -
Yep. I just got mine removed 5 days ago and so glad I did. I had so many problems with GERD and initially wanted to revise to sleeve, but based on my history of GERD, my surgeon says that the sleeve would cause me to continue to have the same reflux and heartburn due to the high pressure of the sleeve so He recommended bypass and after thorough research, and I am an RN with several friends who have had both sleeve and bypass..... and numerous conversations with my surgeon, I will be revising to gastric bypass in November. The removal of the port has been the most painful. I stayed the night in the hospital due to pain control because he also removed the scar tissue around the band as well. Adhesion removal can be painful. I was on IV Dilaudid every 4 hours, IV Toradol and Norco in the hospital. They switched me to percocets and I have been fine on those. Take a pillow with you to hold against your tummy to splint the incision so you can cough. Also get a start on taking some over the counter miralax to help with constipation because pain med can cause things to slow way down, on top of the anesthesia. I have asthma so I needed breathing treatments and I used my incentive spirometer every hour while awake to exercise my lungs which helped me greatly! They leave the incisions open to air and seal them with Dermabond, a type of glue. I am healing quite fast. Here is a pic of my incisions. He did a total of 3. The biggest was where the port was. Make sure your decision is yours and also listen to your surgeon and what will be best for you. The next few months will be the hardest, however I still feel restriction post op.

This is gonna sound nuts, but I think I want to remove my Lapband
Dream4tc replied to Lapbandster's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just had my band removed 5 days ago. It was painful, but so glad I did it. I have not had any reflux, heartburn or vomiting which has been just amazing considering, I had endured that for 9 consecutive months due to complications from a prolapse and then slip where my band was sitting sideways and was up nearly on my esophagus. My insurance paid for my removal after there was imaging confirmation from an Upper GI and esophageal manometry. There was quite a bit of scar tissue removed and that in itself is painful. I am on percocets currently but pain has improved and so thankful that it's gone. I actually have relief and no more vomiting. I drank a glass of orange juice today for the first time after 4 years. I had not been able to drink any juices or eat any acidic fruits since the band due to too much acid. I will be revising to gastric bypass in a few months after I heal from this -

@@Dream4tc insurance companies sometimes make things difficult when one would think our health would be the priority. I am another revisionist (lol). Even though I was in the usual pain post-op I had a relief from having that band removed that I can't describe. It was like a weight removed from my intestines even though the band was empty for a while. I ended up staying in revision surgery longer because of multiple adhesions. Regardless of what I have been through with the RNY, it is worth it no regrets. I had the lap band in 2012 lost about 30 pounds and suffered with vomiting and pain up until my revision late last year. Congrats on your upcoming revision. -
I had lap band and port removed on 8/10/15 due to complications from prolapse and then slip 9 months later, all which had cause me to vomit everything I ate. I had lap band for 4 years. Lost 80 pounds. Since removal, I have had NO reflux or heartburn which has been amazing. I haven't had much of an appetite and have had pain at the port site, but pain has improved every day. I had gained 8 pounds due to surgery, but have lost 7 pounds over night last night. I am now on a soft food diet until my post op appt and have been logging my calories on fitness pal and using my Vivosmart activity tracker. I have been focusing on protein to keep up my energy level. Drinking water, premier protein shakes, low fat cottage cheese, and eggs with some grape or orange juice when my head feels "swimmy". I plan to revise to gastric bypass based on my surgeons recommendations in October/November after I heal up from this. I can't wait to get back to Zumba after clearance from my surgeon. I will work my butt off to keep my weight maintained until my revision. Here is my most recent belly pic. It is healing and I am allowed to shower. The biggest incision still hurts but pain has improved. See my belly face? The 2 small incisions are the eyes and my actual belly button is the mouth LOL. Belly is still swollen, I am sure it will go down soon

Considering revision to sleeve from band
chimboree26 replied to LoisinStA's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just had revision surgery--band to sleeve-- on 8/11. I'm doing very well. I stayed two nights in the hospital. Glad I did it. The 2nd day post-op was the worst for me, due to nausea, not pain. -

I am now going to revise to the gastric bypass; I guess I should have had this surgery in the first place!! You are doing the right thing in tackling your weight issues and revise to another one. I think the band was a bad idea for most and you will read here that many revise. Best wishes to you -
Lap band to sleeve revision in 2 surgeries?!

so sorry girl. with you already having the problem i do believe he'll want you to get a revision. -
Hi everyone, this is my first post so please be kind! ???? On March 5th, 2012 I had lap band surgery. My HW then was 371lbs., SW was 350 lbs. And within a year I lost about another 72lbs. After that, I seemed to hit a brick wall, and had issues with keeping things down. Long story short, I went to see my surgeon after another vomiting episode and had emergency gallbladder removal the next day. Ever since then, I had more and more issues with my band to the point where I had to go to the ER and have all my fluid removed due to constant slipping. Since that point my weight gain has sky rocketed from 384, to 391, and now 398! My heaviest weight ever! I have taken full responsibility for going off the handles since my band was deflated, but I am excited for this revision and to get my life back on track. Has anyone else had similar issues? Any and all stories are appreciated, its nice to feel like you're not alone. Best of luck to everyone on their WLJ!!! ????

ryebread replied to ShareeB's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I remember after having my lap band (I am currently preparing for a revision), isopure ready made protein drinks were my lifesaver in the sipping stage. I couldn't stomach a regular protein shake due to the thicker consistency and I was sick of the taste. Isopure is just that, pure protein with 0 carbs and has almost a juice/sports drink taste I'd different flavors. I hope this helps you! -
I'm so depressed. I called my surgeons office yesterday to see if there was any word on my insurance and the receptionist said she'd gotten a call that they denied me for revising to the sleeve. She was goi g to leave it for the woman in charge of the insurance stuff though. I'm so upset, originally I said I probably wasn't going to get approved since my bmi was under 40 and my only complication was vomiting. Then I got it in my head they were going to say yes and now I'm devastated. I keep gaining weight without any Fluid in my band and I don't want to go back to puking at most times, or being able to eat anything other times. My scrubs barely fit me and I refuse to buy larger ones. My bmi is like 37 right now, it was under a little less at my last surgeons visit. At this point I'm almost thinking if they would approve me if I gain a little bit more, but I really don't want to. I'm probably going to start and try to do a 1-2 week liquid diet n Monday anyways because I need to lose weight bad, I'm miserable. Maybe the insurance lady at the office will manage to call and talk them into it. Here's crossing my fingers.

Band to Sleeve and other questions!
tryinagain2day replied to iamshazza's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Best decision I made!!! I have lost more weight and now actually feel full with the sleeve. I was banded in 2012 lost 25lbs then gained 75 back. Finally got revision and loosing at about 2-4 lbs per week. With the band I never found "the sweet" spot and was always to tight or not enough restriction- was like a yo-yo. -
Psych eval - is this normal?
losing_the_band replied to missy5099's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went with www.BariatricPsychEvaluations.com. Granted, it was for a revision, but it was quick and painless and only cost $100. I was on the phone with the psychologist for less than half an hour, and they sent everything to my doctor very quickly. -
? About clearances
losing_the_band replied to Sajijoma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would not recommend trying to do the clearances yet, as most of them have to be done within a certain time period before surgery. You never know if you're going to have a fight with insurance, like I did. I had to go back and forth with appeals for 3.5 months before I was approved for my revision, so if I'd tried to do my clearances early, I would have just had to do them all over again, since they all had to be done within 30 days prior to having surgery. Now, once you get your date, I would try to get them done ASAP, because there might be follow-up things that you have to do that may require some waiting (a sleep study, in my case). I only had 3 weeks notice, and I wasn't going to be able to get in to see my PCP for a week and a half, so I had to go to a new doctor for my lab tests. Luckily, I was able to get everything done in about 1.5-2 weeks (delayed a few days because my pulmonologist required me to go for the sleep study before she would clear me), so now I'm just waiting for everything to be forwarded to my surgeon's office on Monday. -
Steps necessary for insurance coverage of Lap band to sleeve
Pinkgirl1234 replied to Pinkgirl1234's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Was just at the ER...nausea,vomiting....finally had enough. They won't touch me....the band is like doctor repellent....they did a cat scan and it noted a small hiatal hernia!!! this has to count for something. The new surgeon will be able to gauge slippage when he does the fill procedure....hopefully this will all be considered for revision.
