2 week No Loss 8 weeks out of surgery

Eat more. Get a new scale. I know "eat more" sounds like crazy advice when you're stuck in a stall, but our bodies have an amazing set of defenses...thousands of years of evolution to survive bad harvests and hunting seasons. When we drastically cut calories and move a lot more than we used to....our biology interperates this as OMG, we're starving to death and must be moving more because we're desperately searching for hard to find food!...then your endocrine system goes....Must hit this body with every hormone and defense mechanism possible to STOP weight loss! (there are also a whole bunch of little hormonal changes that can bite you in the ass after a long period of severely restricted calories to "make up" for weight lost and encourage gain...which is why most people have some regain issues eventually) If it were me.....I'd add calories. Something with fiber. Black beans, potato, a smoothie with some spinach and low fat greek yogurt. All of these have protien, but they also boost your gut microbiota and stop the keto that your body might be interpereting as starvation. Crazy internet lady advice....take what you like and leave the rest. All of our bodies work a little different. Find what's best for you. -
That's awesome that we had our surgery the same day.....I drink my Protein shake in the morning, I've been eating cottage cheese, tuna, yogurt, sometimes I'll eat as much of a high protein lean cuisine as I can. I was trying the protein Water, but it's awful. I don't know what else to do other than up my fluids, plus I get really cranky, but I think it's just because I'm really tired. I'm hoping my body just needs to adjust and that it happens soon. Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App

Do not cut the Metformin ER without checking with your surgeon. Actually for any extended release you need to check with a doctor or pharmacist. Those types of pills/capsules are not designed to be cut or crushed due to the extnded release properties. My surgeon said I can swallow pills smaller than an M&M. For the Actigall, which is a capsule, I take it with warm Water to soften it and with dairy such as yogurt, pudding, cottage cheese so it stays in the stomach longer and acts as a buffer.

Hey guys, Thanks for the support it means a lot. I'm feeling a bit better this morning and I have bean and artichoke soup for lunch, that soup always fills me up right away so I should be fine. I also found these little yogurts that are suppose to help suppress your appetite for 4 hours. (ought to get a good 2 hours a least from them!) Plus I slept in until 11:00am today so I missed breakfast! I drank a yogurt (they have these nice start up ones that are orange and Fiber and some other energy ones that have pineapple and ginseng and fiber) Portuguese are crazy for yogurts so at least I have that. FunnyDuddies: hehe thats actually not a bad idea. I should do what PhotoNut did and photo shop one of my photos to see myself thin.

December 20th surgery's how's it going?
Yael770 replied to Andrew48's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow Andrew! Sounds likes you're doing great! I was also sleeved on 12/20. I moved to mushie food over the weekend. I think I took it a little too fast and today I've gone back to mostly liquids, yogurt and mashed potatoes. I find it hard to take all my meds during the day. I've been cutting them in half, and now it seems like double the amount (lol, it is)! I'm nervous about taking a WHOLE pill! I'm seeing my doctor this Thursday for the first time. His office and my husband's work schedule were hard to coordinate for an appointment any sooner. So far - so good. Googie, what type of shakes? I haven't been given any instructions for Protein shakes - don't even know what products are available....curious to know. Be well! -
Oh that sucks. I had read a few good reviews, and i was hopeful. Meh. I got some frozen greek yogurt and it was delicious!

It's a shame your Bariatric Center didn't provide you with this. My pre-op diet called for: 1. 2 or less servings daily - juice, gatorade, Powerade, or fruit 2. 3 or less servings daily - Jello, popsicles, sugar-free fudgsicles 3. 3 or less servings daily - 1 cup skim milk or 8 oz yogurt (Dannon light, Yoplait light or Colombo light) or 1/2 cup cottage cheese 4. 1 - 2 a day - Atkins or Carb Solutions shakes 5. Any amount of these daily: sugar free beverages such as Crystal Light, Wylers Light, Sugar free Koolaid or Tang, diet Snapple, Fruit2O, Propel, or coffee or tea with sugar substitutes or water--broths (all varieties) and sugar free popsicles and sugar free jello. As you can see, the idea is to reduce your glycogen stores and make our livers smaller, to make surgery easier. So STAY AWAY FROM SUGAR! It's tough the first couple of days, but after that it gets easier--then next thing you know, it's time for surgery! Good luck to you...

Thanks for the advice, I had a few more meals (2oz each) today because I was so hungry, but feel discouraged about going over the 600 calorie goal. I'm eating cottage cheese, 15g protien sugar free Greek yogurt, soft cheese, sugar free Jello and yogurt. That's what I eat most of. Pre-op today
starbuckscoffeegal replied to starbuckscoffeegal's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm good. I'm down 24 lbs I'm on the mushy food menu now Still not back to work. I'm hoping to have enough energy to go back to the gym tomorrow. I've tolerated most everything I've eaten. My shakes are good and I can do cottage cheese and yogurt. I tried eggs and that was not fun. But I had the band a few years ago and couldn't eat eggs with that either. Where are you in your journey? -
If you have a Kroger or Fred Meyer near you, I would suggest trying some of the CarbMaster Yogurt. It's a great source of protein/low carbs and very filling (if you add 1/2 scoop of unflavored Protein powder, you get even more protein and no change in taste). This is hard time, but follow your instructions. They were written to help you heal and maximize your weightloss. As noted above refried Beans were AWESOME when I got to the puree stage. Also, try pureed chili and Campbell's Beef Vegetable - they are higher in carbs, but the little you eat shouldn't be a problem. They have a lot of flavor and can satisfy that need to "eat" real food. Best of luck!

Yes. I am ashamed. I ate a cup of nonfat yogurt with 1/8 cup of brown sugar and cocoa. Boy was it good but it wasn’t worth it. I felt much better physically the rest of the day after that, but I got on the scale tonight and I weigh 5 pounds more than I did this morning. So now I have lost a net 7 pounds instead of 12 in 6 days. I’m not going to kick myself over it. For now I guess I’ve got to continue the keto journey even if i do not feel well most of the time. Because I’ve passed out once and almost again yesterday, I am going to call the general doctor tomorrow to schedule an appointment before surgery. Because I don’t think things are right with my body. The bariatric clinic says it is not the diet but I am not convinced of that. It may be that some people just cannot do well on a plan that has only 10 grams of carbs per day and 700 calories. I mean, I am 65 years old.

Yesterday was the big day! I can't believe it is behind me now. I'm quite sore, but already so much better today than yesterday. Yesterday my left shoulder was my worst complaint (as I've heard many times and thought I was prepared for). Felt like someone had vice grips on my trapezoid muscle! Man, it really hurt. Today it is hardly anything though. My tummy is pretty sore today. I just took off my bandages...that left me a little weak in the knees, I must say (I'm kinda wimpy in that area). I really felt like I was going to pass out, so I put off my shower till after my 2nd protein shake thinking that I might feel a little stronger. I walked the house yesterday a lot to help the gas. It must have worked because I feel the gas is 95% gone. I know tomorrow will be a better day than today. Hard to get 64 ozs. of liquid in, especially with all the napping I'm doing. Yesterday I really fell short - today is going better. I just had about 1/3 of a frozen Yoplait "Whips" yogurt...it really tasted good (saw a commercial for freezing them). I highly recommend them for a little treat. I kinda felt like I needed the sugar as I literally had no calories yesterday and thought that might help with my energy for a shower along with my 2nd protein shake. I lost of total of 16 pounds on my 2 week preop. I'm sure I won't be losing much more this first month. I'm going to focus on healing and getting my protein in and I really don't care about the scale at this point. I'm having reality checks like, "I can't believe I actually went through with this!" I feel so optimistic...like it all makes so much sense. I know I made the right choice. Even after reading that recent post on LBT (the night before my surgery) about the woman who died from complications. I'm sure there is a lot to that story and we don't know all the facts. I just focused on the facts that I knew for me...I had done my research, knew the facts about lap band surgery and stayed focused on my goal. Looking forward to my progress and getting through the next month of healing so the real party can begin. Thanks to all who post on here for getting me through this decision!!!:tt2:

Nov Sleevers Where Are You?
BigGirlPanties replied to CoCo41's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
only a week? i have to do 2 weeks!!! the dr should give you some things you can have... high protein and low carbs... slimfast has a low carb version for a quick an easy "take with" ... I was told to get carbmaster yogurt from Kroger and a list of other things like sugar free popsicles -
I'm post op 4 weeks. I've lost 23 pounds since surgery. Over the last week and a half my stomach has grown more and more sensitive. There are very few things that I can eat without throwing up. I'm basically back on full liquids and even then, I throw up. Today I was only able to keep down 2 oz of cream Soup and 1 oz of yogurt. I'm also having trouble taking my Vitamins. I'm taking Zofran for nausea but it only helps a little. I've called the doctor's office twice and the nurse says that this is normal, but I'm not sure it is. This morning, I had to pull over three times during my commute to work and all I had consumed was a few sips of Water. Thoughts?

Im two weeks pre op for the sleeve,
InfiniteButterfly replied to angelca's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hmm...my two weeks pre-op was a liquid diet and I easily lost 10 lbs on it. Protein shakes, and up to six servings of cottage cheese, cheese sticks, yogurt, sf pudding, V-8. I know everyone's pre-surgery diet requirements are different though. -
Wanting a chewy chocolate protein bar
Maggie1955 replied to BINABINA25's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 12 days out my plan allowed me to have low-fat cottage cheese, yogurt, unsweetened applesauce, low sugar oatmeal, low fat string cheese or Babybel cheese, tuna salad, and chili. Surely one of these foods will satisfy your food craving. -
I'm supposed to be on clear liquid for a week and then all liquids for another week then pureed food for another week.. I was wondering, since I can't really drink much and I've only been on clear liquids for 4 days, what would happen if I start drinking yogurt 5 days post op? I've noticed some people were on clear liquids for a few days, I've done lots of research and it seems ok.. but I just wanted to get other opinions. Looking for ANY way to get more protein in.. thanks in advance!

Your meal plan is probably dependent on the type of surgery and the directions from your doctor and nutritionist. Since you are posting under the gastric bypass surgery section, I would assume you had a Roux-en-y bypass. The direction I received when I had that surgery was: First 4 weeks - full liquids Weeks 5-8 pureed foods Weeks 9+ solid meals I would suspect that trying to eat a turkey burger at two weeks out will be extremely hard on your new stomach. In the full liquid menu for Protein, recommended sources are yogurt (plain, no fruit variety), low fat cottage cheese, low fat cheese, Beans (refried, pinto, navy, kidney, lentils, great northern.) A separate requirement is protein supplement. This begins on day five following surgery and after you are passing gas regularly. This requirement is 75 to 90 grams of protein per day. This requirement is different that the volume limitations on the meal plan. Generally in the early stages most individuals meet this requirement by drinking Protein shakes.

VMS1990 replied to VMS1990's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess I was never really told how much protein to have in a day. I always choice my high protein meal first. Turkey, chicken, Greek yogurt, cheese. Eggs. I feel great, lose weight like I should. I just nervous I don't want to be malnutrition. Lol. I do three meals. One snack. I have started doing protein bar as well. -
Sleeve November 6th - Looking for a Buddy
Robert Christopherson replied to Hertz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also was sleeved the 6th. 4 days in the hospital. Hiccups, neausea and vomiting. I got out Mon night, today I had an over easy egg. I had a hard time. The surgeon came in while I was vomiting and said take your new stomach for a spin. Good times lol. I'm OK just slight dull achy pain water no problem or yogurt, and pureed chicken for lunch. With an isopure chaser. -
I'm 4 weeks post op and can't meet my liquid or protein goals. Pretty much anything I eat with the exception of yogurt gives me the "foamies" for hours! Obviously while I'm puking I'm not eating or drinking. When I can eat I'm not supposed to drink 30 minutes before or after. I'm suppose to eat 6 times a day and I might eat twice. The goals are 100 oz liquid and 80gr protein. On a good day which is few and far between I might get 45 protein and 70 liquid. It's very frustrating. I think I'm being punished for having an amazingly easy surgery and recovery. Anyone else finding it impossible to meet their goals??? And yes I am chewing and eating super slow! It takes me almost an hour to get down 4oz of soft food.

Milk and yogurt. I am fine with cheese and the whey protein sits fine too.. It was terrible you could hear my stomach from across the room.

HELP!! Pre-Op Diet!!
jazma replied to Amber Danielle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to go on a 3 week liq diet, after that and still doing I drink Protein Shakes and one meal a day. I eat chicken stirfry like crazy, hamburger patti with no bread and salad or FF cottage cheese. I eat alot of yougurt (lowfat) and drink Water all day or crystal light. I am very creative with my Protein drinks I mix small ice cubes, milk and choc or vanila Protein powder in the blender and then add SF coffee or Irish cream or Hazelnut syrup. I might toss in some fruit or yogurt depends on my time limit. I drink this on my way to work and its good and very filling. Hang in there you can do it and look at the long range goal
