    August Banders

Well we will be the Global August Banders!! I'm Australian Sarah so I work in Kilos and I had to look up what it would be in pounds too! Are you guys all on Optifast for pre-op or do you have a different brand of shakes elsewhere in the world? I think the nerves will kick in for me on the morning I am driving to the hospital. EEEEK! I have my mum flying over from the East coast to look after me for 10 days which I am looking forward to as I havent seen her for awhile. We are a 5 hour flight away from each other on opposite sides of our big island So glad I have more August mates! Catch you soon

    Becoming a new Bander

:biggrin2: My big day is tomorrow August 5th I call today to find out when I go in. I am nervous and ready all in one. I have been waiting for this day to come for a long time now. Weighing in at 216 lbs down 10 lbs have health issues and soon to be on my way to a new and improved me.
  4. After I reach goal I plan on dropping more 10 lbs or so to give me a little 'bounce" room, so it's for the foreseeable future (at least another six -eight months or so). After I decide to maintain, I may have to tweak a bit to steady the scale, but I cannot see a day when I will eat until my stomach says "I'm full." I ate like that for thirty years and ended up obese.
  5. I was banded 2009, lost 70lbs but gain all but 10lbs back. Congratulations on you success with your band. I had alot of trouble with my band it slipped and was consistently throwing up. I converted my band to a sleeve in one surgery 4/10, that's just the way my surgeon does it. I'm happy with my sleeve I'm down 31lbs. Good luck in what ever you decide to do.

    Hashimoto's Thyroiditis

A lot of endocrinologists are now saying that if you are hypothyroid (symptom) then you have about a 90% chance of it being from Hashimotos. I have been hypothyroid for about 32 years, but not officially diagnosed as Hashis until 3 years ago. I've been working on improving my health (and specifically my thyroid health) the last 10 months. The book "Stop the Thyroid Madness" has been a huge help.

    Here I come world!

HW 281 CW 254 SW ___ H 5' 8.5" Tomorrow is the day! Super pumped and no nerves yet. I started my process on 10/22/15 by attending and informational session. Almost didn't continue with the process because my BMI is on the 40 border and thought I'd be "punished" for losing weight prior to surgery and would no longer qualify. Lesson learned; always ask questions!!! I started on a 1,600 calories a day diet for the next six months per my insurance requirements. I have lost 27 lbs. so far! I am hoping to be down to 250 for surgery. I have been on a mostly liquid diet this past week. My doctor said because I've lost more than double the ask that my daily pre-op diet could include two Protein shakes and a Lean Cuisine or similar meal. Last night was a shot of MoM - gross! Today it's all liquid. SF Jello and Water for Breakfast. Lol. Will have bone broth for lunch and dinner. Water, water, water! That's all for now. Just signed up today. Looking forward to learning a lot here and about the new me! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

No artifical sweeteners or processed products

So not true.. Personally, I did/do have a problem with certain processed foods, but there were times (even years at a time) in my life where I didn't include any of them in my diet and still gained weight... You can definitely get fat on real whole foods.. I'm an excellent cook/baker.. I can make you a carrot-nut bread with natural whole ingredients that will make you gain 10 pounds instantly... Especially when you top it with fresh whipped cream... and stay away from my homemade granola.. the highest calorie food EVER. (uh butter, oats, nuts, dried fruits.. sooo calorie dense) OP, Do you use stevia.. there is minimally processed stevia out there or you could buy a plant and just use the leaves yourself. Beware of juicing too early on.. fresh raw juice is very hard on the stomach. I enjoy juicing and was told to wait 6 weeks before reintroducing.

    Strong woman

It's been a while since I have posted. I frequent the forums, but only read the ones that stand out. As of today my weight is 239 pounds. That is 72 pounds since I got sleeved. I can definitely feel my strength returning. I can lift, and carry things. I can go up and down the stairs without a problem. I can do an hour of cardio plus weight training and still go on with my daily routine without having to take a nap. I fell great! I think besides the occasional migraine from my neck tension all is well. I think it is time for me to get that much needed massage. I deserve it! I haven't been as strict with my eating habits as I was in the beginning...I do admit. I definitely still make an effort. Where I lack in effort is preparing my meals and eating every 2-3 hours. I think if I ate every 2-3 hours then my metabolism would speed up. I've upped my carbs to about 100...sometimes 150. It is not necessarily low carb, but I can feel my body needs it when I work out. My workouts are way more productive and I don't feel light headed when I get my calories, protein, and carbs in. I don't really eat bread. I tried it a few times, but I just didn't like how it made me feel and pretty much avoid it now. I love quinoa! It tastes great with some chicken. As far as my hair loss goes...I chopped my hair off. It was annoying me and now it is much less noticeable. It is still falling out, but not so aggressively as it was before. I am not too attached to my hair so it was no big deal to chop it all off. And it is summer so it is much cooler. Some nsv's I don't need a daily nap My feet shrank I can do lots of cardio I don't avoid stairs Last month I only lost 10 pounds...I went on vacation for 2 weeks and didn't work out or eat right. Hopefully I can lose 15 pounds this month
  12. I think the majority of us 'sleevers' were nervous to some extent. I was actually fine and dandy and excited up until 2 days before hand. Then I got super nervous and anxious. I actually went and hugged my good friends and told them all how much I loved them (just in case of course lol). But the hospital told me I could take a xanax prior to showing up to calm my nerves and once they put me out, I woke up sleeved Nerves are normal but there isnt one thing I regret about getting sleeved except that I didnt do it sooner. Congrats to you! 10 days and youll be on the 'losers bench'.

    Raging mad!

That is great news to hear! I got mine done from Snyder 10 months ago and have lost 60 lbs and counting! They really are good! I hope it works out for you! If you would like information about them or just need help you can send me a message! I'd be glad to help!
  14. Hi, had surg on sep 10. No pre surg diet, just no food or water after midnight before surg. Went in at 5:30 am. Surgery about 8:30. Went fine in hospital 3days. Clear liquids 24 hours after surg. Full liquids 48 hour after surg. 2 weeks after surg step 3 foods. Soft mushy. 4 weeks after surg any foods I wanted to try as long as nutrient dense. No sugars obviously, protein, soft veggies and fruits. Lost 15 pounds ast two weeks, scale got stuck, lost two more pounds 2nd 2 weeks, now have lost 23 pounds total. Got sick twice, both times eating crackers with tuna. Think I ate too fast too, not thinking about what I was doing ( eating ) and didn't chew well enough. Went back to work 6 days after surg. Felt good, no brain power though. Realtor so stayed at my desk and answered questions. Now that scale numbers are moving again I feel better, I was a little depressed, but stuck to plan. Feeling good walking 35 mins a day, not cleared for lifting or full workout yet. Lots of support, hubby not sure this is a good thing, but still supportive. Size smaller already!

    Monday 5/15

I have to say I am excited about weighing in tomorrow.:whoo: I'm in the groove of this walking now and it feels good. I really want to add more but once TTC begins I know it will help. I see my body changing a little at a time but I love seeing the numbers coming down on the scale. 459----398---394--- and tomorrow is going to be 390 then 389--385---380---379---375 I just like looking at that number. My birthdayand bandiversary goal 375. At last weight in I was 19 pounds away. :Banane09:Tomorrow should be 15 pounds away. I can do this. I have 54 days to my bandiversary. Thank God for all of my support:grouphug:, LBT, MD LB Suuport Group, my child, my friends. They keep me motivated!!!

    Caffeine? Husband?

Hi, on a scale of 1 - 10 for coffee freak I was a 13 !!! I could not go without coffee, typically drinking 4 cups b/4 leaving house for work, then 2 pots of coffee @ work through the day... I LOVE COFFEE. I gave it up... I wanted this surgery so bad and I wanted it to work and to lose weight, I totally and faithfully followed everything my doc & nut said for the first 4 months...then summer came and I figured I have went this long without coffee why go back to drinking it now... my husband does have coffee on the weekend and OMG, it smells so incredibly awesome... I feel once winter comes I will have a cup of coffee, or maybe two.... but I will not go back to being a coffeeholic like I was! LOL... Set a short term goal...comitt yourself to following all your doc & nut recommendations to the letter....and you will see better results... Good Luck!!

    Any November surgeries?

My surgery date is November 10! I am super excited!!!! It's not coming fast enough ????☺️ I was nervous at first when I started my liquid diet. But being on it I have noticed that I'm not hungry at all. So I'm guessing that I was a mental thing! I just pray that the 10 gets here soon because the wait is driving me crazy ????????
  18. My favorites are Syntrax Nectar Fuzzy Navel and Strawberry Kiwi. Mixed with 10 oz water and then add ice. They are both refreshing. I don't recommend the Grape Nectar.

Question for those who have kids 12 or over

I told all my kids. Three of which are still at home (ages 19, 17 and 12) and one that lives with his wife and child. I don't mind that their friends know. The kids did need to know because they had to understand that my eating would change. It has been a family thing really. They encourage me when I start getting annoyed that I can't have some of the things they are eating. Now I have no cravings for most of what they eat and only want my shakes and my meals. They have been wonderful through this.
  20. Tony I'm in Houston as well and I just had my first consult today. Three people I work with have use the same group of doctors so that's how I made my decision on where to go. The name of the clinic is the Davis clinic and it's located at I 10 and Gessner. There's the old Mr. Davis who from what I understand is a little arrogant but it's been doing this for years and he's very good. There's the young Mr. Davis which I don't know much about. Then there is Dr Primomo and he is the one I went with. I'd like him very much. I was comfortable with them and I felt like he was honest and sincere. They do have a website which you can check out. Just search for the Davis clinic and the number is 713–4 86–1755. I hope this helps you. I'm not sure what part of town you live in but if this location does not work out well for you, go over to the sleeve forums and do a search for Houston , you can find additional doctors.

    Are you hungry?

Lady J this is a great question! One I have been exploring at length with myself as well as with my hubby and even in Nutritional and support group. This question is raised often by members and by the Nut when someone says they are hungry. "Is it true below the neck hunger" she will ask.."or is it mouth hunger or head hunger, which also covers boredom and emotional hunger." Last night this question came up when a fellow member said she was hungry, and was snacking between meals or at the end of a long day. I have pretty much driven myself batty with this question. Sometimes I have this internal battle with myself to figure it out. Am I truly HUNGRY or is it a maybe a not quite full and could eat, but not really "hungry" feeling? Am I bored or upset or possibly thirsty??....oh the questions!! I been asking myself them and pushing myself to understand what true hunger and need to eat is as opposed to that "above the neck hunger". What I have come up with so far as my answer is pretty much..feeling the "fullness" or "emptiness" in my belly, and then thinking on a scale of 1-10 what is my need to eat? Then checking to see how long since I have had food or drink has it been 2 hours or 4, maybe 5. Then I think about, did I drink and hydrate enough? Do I maybe just want to "munch" or chew on something because I am bored, or upset, feeling lonely, out of habit...? If all those are on point then I will move on to have something to eat or drink. If it's just a need to chew or fill a gap maybe a piece of gum I can blow big bubbles with like I'm 5! Always makes me feel better (unless it pops all over my face and gets in my hair then I just feel silly) I'm still working on getting comfortable answering this question.... How about you all??? How do you know when/if your hungry?

    Acid reflux

Ok I have had a busy couple of days trying out things. First the worst night I had before posting here was 10 episodes of acid reflux. The best was 7 episodes. After trying and changing teas, adding tums, and trying to stay pretty elevated before bed, I am down to 1 episode a night! ???????????????????????????????? Thank you everyone for your advice, and for the fact you wanted to help. FYI I ended up using lemon-ginger probiotic tea.
