  1. I've been with my partner for 10 years. It's been a hard 3 months so far. I've lost a total of 43 lbs since surgery and I want to lose another 60 or so. But my partner keeps on telling me that I shouldn't lose thatch weight that I already look horrible, that the back of me already looks flabby and it I keep losing weight I'm going to look like s#$%. It can get sad talking to him. I've been overweight my whole life so hearing him say these things can get depressing. I don't know why see the positive in this process.

    Immediate NSV after VSG!

You lost 43 pounds total including pre op diet. The weight loss is the reason for the drop in BP, not the surgery. You should see other improvements in the coming months.

    SASI bypass

Oh my gosh! You wrote back! Thank you! Thank you! yes it’s done by endoscopy now - totally out patient. I was wondering if you did it as a first surgery or revision I’m doing it as a first - surgeons okay with this! Did you notice weight loss right away, same as other surgeries or is it slower but more permanent ( this is how I understand it) What do you wish you had known Before? Did you loose your hair? I’m paying for it out of pocket so 🤦‍♀️ Yikes! Would you still choose this one over any other surgeries! I was pretty much sold on the outpatient aspect but I’m wondering why not many places do it? I have to fly out of the state I live in to get it done! Still within the Us but I would have liked for there to be something closer to me! thank you again for getting back to me! neeta 😌

    SASI bypass

Hi Neetab, Sorry for my late respons - not here to often! Congratulations and good choice! I have been at my target weight for almost two years now and haven’t had any trouble with food since the surgery! 😍 Feel free to ask me anything and I will try to reply ASAP 😎

    September Surgery Buddies!!

I am 2 weeks post surgery and I just have not focused on food at all. I don't think about what I cannot have or what I miss. I am laser focused on drinking my required amount of water, doing my walking of atleast an hour a day even if I have to break it up over 2 sessions and finally, focusing on the good...the weight that is lost. It is motivating to me to see the weight falling off. I am losing about 8 pounds a week since the surgery after I lost almost 20 in the pre surgery diet. I don't want to ruin that so I focus on anything and everything I can except food. Besides, I cannot eat hardly anything without restriction, so it all works out. Focus on the FUTURE and get away from the past food etc.
  6. The stress (emotional, reduced calories & weight loss) plus all the extra hormones flushing your body as they’re released from your fat does do strange things to your body too. Twice, a blister thing appeared on my collar bone. Thought it was a the beginning of psoriasis or eczema. Turned out to be a herald spot for pityriasis rosea a virus I’d had twice many, many years ago. Fortunately, just a single spot each time this time no others. Obviously the stress, etc. caused the latent virus just to flair a little. Just a thought.

Had VSG on 09/08 and no weight loss

I lost 9 lbs on my pre-op diet and gained exactly 9 lbs from the fluids in the hospital when I went home the next day. I lost 6 of it the first week and another 6 the next week so I was actually -3 in 2 weeks. I didn't think that was fair at the time either. Next month I'll be 3 yrs post op and have had no problem maintaining well below my original goal.

    Weight gain after Bypass surgery

I regained 1/2 of what I lost 😠 I used the Fast Metabolism Diet by Haylie Pomroy. I lost what I had gained & then hit my goal weight over 3 years after my bypass. The diet recommends eating a lot of food each day. I couldn’t do that but I did follow what foods to eat in each phase & did it for 1 month. Then I loosely followed along & kept loosing. We just got back from vacation today. We ate way too many bad things so we are gonna do it for another month starting on Monday (it’s easier to keep track of the phases if you start on a Monday). My whole body felt better & my face waits swollen each morning. There is a very good Fast Metabolism group on FB. They are always very helpful & answer questions pretty quickly. you can always send me a PM if you have any questions.
  9. I experienced some weight gain after Bypass surgery I just want to lose my weight again. Sent from my U307AS using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. FLUID!! Try to not weigh for 3 weeks post-op. I know it’s hard to stay away from the scale, but we all gain right after the surgery. The weight loss WILL happen.

    Surgery Tomm - Gastric Sleeve

My BMI was 34.3. Sleeved (self-pay) in July 2020 at age 67, and have lost 51 pounds. My weight loss has really slowed down (maybe a pound/month now), but I am SO GLAD I went this route. I am about 10 pounds from goal. One of the best things I have ever done for myself. ZERO REGRETS.

Weight Loss Stagnation 10 Months Post-Op

I personally eat a lot of salad now (I’m 10 months out as well)- Leafy greens have a ton of good nutrition to them and are lower calorie to boot. And I like that they fill my stomach- that’s what I’m after! I frequently will eat a salad with chicken breast. At ten months out we don’t need to be as paranoid about making every bite as nutritionally dense as possible. Eating a good variety of non processed foods is your best bet. I find that I keep on having to catch new ways I’m unconsciously eating more calories than I should- grazing on nuts, eating multiple snacks, eating super calorically dense food, etc. It’s possible to eat a very healthy and nutritionally sound diet that a nutritionist would love and still be eating too much of it and gain weight. My end goal is still to lose weight, so I’m eating with that mindset first.
  13. Hello! I started in May 2021 with my PCP doing the medically supervised diet. Next month will be my 6th and final month and I have lost 10 lbs. I need to lose another 6 lbs to meet the 5% weight loss requirement. I’m in San Diego and my hospital is UCSD La Jolla through Healthnet Medi-Cal. In these past months, I have done a chest xray, esophagus xray, esophageal impedance test, blood work, EKG, met with surgeon, met with hospital bariatric doctor and I just had my psych evaluation. The last thing I need to do is a sleep apnea test. I called to make an appointment for a consultation and the next appointment isn’t until March 2022!! I am so frustrated since I’m almost done with all the requirements and I was hoping to have the surgery in the next few months. I spoke with my coordinator and bariatric doctor. They said I can be put on a waitlist if there are any cancellations for an earlier date. They also suggested I call my PCP to see if she can get me a referral to a sleep clinic outside of UCSD. Waiting to hear back from insurance for approval. If they say no, I am changing insurances. I asked my coordinator if the sleep apnea test was a requirement from my insurance and she said no! The bariatric doctor at UCSD requested I have one done. Not sure why though? I don’t snore or have issues sleeping. Ugh Does anyone know if I do end up switching insurances, do I have to start over or will everything be transferred over? I do not want to wait until March 2022 :(
  14. I gained 6 lbs overnight from the fluids they put into me. But I've also been peeing like a racehorse. Just stick to the plan.
  15. I gained 10 lbs. from the day I was admitted to the next day when I left the hospital. Took awhile for all those fluids they pumped into me to exit my body. As long as your calories are low, and you're following your surgeon's plan, it'll come off soon.
  16. Let me stress that I am consuming plenty of water, exactly enough protein, and I’m following the full liquid diet to perfection. I’m using sugar free, lactose free, fat free, high protein milk for my protein shakes. I’m eating sugar free jello, and low sodium, low fat soup that is blended and strained. I’m active, up and moving around… but I’ve lost nothing. Literally, nothing. What is going on?
  17. I had it done for Gerd/esophagitis. My surgeon didn't touch my sleeve either, he also did a standard procedure (RL 150cm, BPL 60cm) when I asked him about length. My insurance would not cover it if he did anything out of standard procedure. Since my 10 day pre-op and surgery early August 2021, I've lost 30 lbs. It is currently faster than my weight loss with my sleeve. Some say they have far more restriction with their VSG than RNY after revision. That is definitely NOT the case for me. I have far more restriction now. My VSG surgeon was conservative and made a larger sleeve (~300ml), every surgeon/person is different.
  18. What are you actually eating? My weight loss stalled for quite a while and I was worried I was just done but then I became more careful with watching what I eat and making sure I get protein and the scale moved again. I'm also really confused that your GP apparently diagnosed you with something but you don't know the name of it. If you do actually have a condition that causes you to gain weight then you need to seek treatment for that.
  19. @ms.sss My GP wasn't sure, but based on my diet and weight issues, she figured that had to be the case. What little I did find about it mentioned that it's not unheard of in people who are of Belgian/Irish descent. Both locations are prone to famines, so what was a life saving trait is now a malignant one in their descendants. I've never found a name for it when looking either. I'm going to try Keto again for a week or two and see how I feel. My doc recommended it as a way to restart my weight loss, so we'll see how that goes. I really appreciate your input!

    September Surgery Buddies!!

Y'all...... Surgery is next Tuesday (9/21) and I'm starting to question it alllllllll. What if I fail? What if this is just another thing I screw up and end up NOT losing weight, or worse, gaining weight? What if it doesn't work for me? What if I'm one of those people who loses 20lbs and then stops (not to negate a 20lb loss, that is GREAT, but its only a drop in the bucket for me)? I will never be able to forgive myself if I spend all this time and money and put my family through the stress of surgery, just to fail again. I'm not scared of the surgery of the rest of the pre-op diet or the work required post-op. But I am TERRIFIED of failing again and I'm not sure how to get out of my own head. Anyone else spiraling? How do we break the shame cycle? ETA: Yes, I've done therapy and it was very helpful. Not currently attending, but am working through a self-paced program specific to binge eating/ food addition and shame. I know this is in my head and I'm taking steps to work on it, just crowd sourcing some encouragement.

    Day 5 post op- struggling.

This made me snort. I'm on day 9 pre-op liquid diet and this is exactly how it feels. Not jazzed about this stretching on post-op, but the thought of little fat eating Pac Man style weight loss makes it a little easier to manage.

    Carbonation?

If it causes you pain, don’t do it. Carbonated drinks will Not cause your stomach to stretch out or any old wives’ tales that are perpetuated in the weight loss surgery industry. I’m down 85lbs at 5 months and drink 1, very rarely 2 cans of caffeine free diet soda a day. Make sure you’re still getting in the majority of your fluids from better sources and not having sides such as acid reflux and you’ll be fine. Also wanted to note that diet soda can be a trigger for some when it comes to binging. If this is the case, also stay away.
  23. The "10oz per meal"...do you know how many calories these meals consists of? At 10 months, weight loss is more affected by caloric value vs volume/mass. A 10oz salad is just a fraction of the calories of a 10oz burger. If you can, try tracking your food intake and see if this is where you can make some changes. Track it for say, a week straight and you can get an idea of your average intake. Reduce if necessary. Calorie intake is *usually* the issue if a stall lasts longer than a few weeks (months?). If not, I'd probably suggest to consult a medical professional to see if you have any circumstances that pre-dispose you to being heavier. Good Luck! ❤️
  24. Hey Everyone, I hope you're doing well. Here's a bit of background on me before I get into my current dilemma, if you don't care about that, skip to the TLDR at the end. I'm a 27 year old man and I got my surgery last year. I've always been heavy (the last time I was less than 300 lbs was in elementary school) and I wanted to live a longer, happier life. I talked with my doctor and she said that Bariatric surgery was the best option for me. I went to one Bariatric clinic and was basically treated as a number, so after six months of prep and almost $1k, I left them and went to a Bariatric clinic that a family friend had had good luck with. I had better luck with them and was able to get my surgery ~ 4 months after my first visit with them(vs almost a year with the first one). My finance(then GF) and I actually got COVID three months before my surgery, though it was not horrible for us. My hospital stay was fine and my recovery went pretty well. I had issues with the liquid diet following the surgery, but after that I was fine until now. Read after the TL;DR for my current dilemma. TL;DR: I'm 10 months post-op and my weight loss has stagnated. I'm prepping ~10 oz per meal, though I usually don't finish it, and have been doing that for about a month. I do about 20-30 minutes on a peddle bike (under my desk) per day. My doctor recommended Keto for me (which I tried pre-op and lost 90+lbs, though it was terrible for me psychologically) and I started it today. I was wondering if anyone had any tips to push past the wall I'm stuck on. Thanks for any advice. Paul
  25. Hello, I am 4.5 months after Sleeve surgery. I am very happy with the weight loss. I know hair thinning is common. I am seeing (for about 4 wks now), a substantial increase in my thinning. I am doing all I think I can. Noixin hair products, Rogaine, Biotin. My team says it is normal and will regrow. My question is....anyone experience this and did it regrow??
