    After you early Jan patients get your stomachs transformed (congratulations!!!!) And are feeling strong enough, I'd love to hear your recommendations for what I should have on hand for my first week at home.
  2. It really depends on you. I was able to drive 2 weeks out. I take a pillow to allow pressure under the seat belt that helps me . It’s supposed to be if you can bend your legs to your stomach with minimal discomfort

  4. Wondering when you could drive comfortably after surgery. My surgeon says I can make the 2 hour drive for my one week follow up. That seems fast
  5. My date is on Feb 3rd, I’m in Toronto and they have been cancelling non urgent surgeries now I’m scared mine will be postponed. Fingers crossed, I’ve been on the optifast for the last week and really don’t want to have to do it all over again.

    Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)

    UPDATE: So as per my Nutritionists suggestions that I listed above in my last post, for the last 3 weeks I've been strict with logging my daily food intake, keeping my protein AT LEAST 60-70 grams a day and my carbs around 50 and my calories around 800. I've also been trying to keep my water intake up. In the beginning I was unsure of what exercises I was gonna do. I was trying to think of things that would work my entire body, help build muscle (esp. in my legs and arms), but also wanted to do cardio. Combining all that was also a suggestion of my nutritionist. She didn't want me just doing cardio. Last week I made sure to do the treadmill and/or exercise bike several times a week. I also contacted a trainer that I saw online and asked for some advice based on my situation and he in turn sent me some info and suggestions that he said he has all his clients start off with regardless of their abilities. So this week I started that program. It consists of 3 days (Mon, Wed, Fri) of weights and in the first week and one day of cardio for 25 mins. The reps and sets stays the same for the weights for the 4 weeks, but the cardio is slightly increased as the weeks go on. By week two I will be up to 2 days of cardio for 30 mins. But to be honest, I plan on doing the cardio on the two off days from the weights starting in the first week. Maybe more. I've also been tossing in some work with weight bands. Anyway, prior to all of this I was consistently weighing in between 246 and 248. Despite having gotten down to 241.2 on Oct. 25th. So since sticking to this I did get down to 239.4 on Dec. 19th. HOWEVER, I have been consistently weighing in each week since, between 240 and 241. So, the gap from my lowest weigh in is at least a lil closer than what it was doing before. But still not sure why I'm not actively just losing still when I have at least 50-60 more pounds to go! My nutritionist said she wanted to see me if things didn't improve after a few weeks so I'm unsure as to whether I wait it out a lil longer or contact her now. I may wait since I just this week finally got some sort of exercise program going. The first two weeks after talking to her I did not so I wanna give it some time. Oh and, last month when I checked my inches on Dec 4th, I had only lost .25 since the previous month. That was it!!! Well yesterday when I checked my inches I had lost 3.7 more (two of which were from my stomach and breast)!!! So, maybe things are starting to go in the right direction again and I should give it a little more time. I am hopeful and sticking to the plan. Guess we'll see.

    Why Are Scales so Fickle?

    I’ve gone through all that and then some! I had anorexia which turned into bulimia when I was a teenager so I weighed myself obsessively. It was an instrument of absolute torture and it breaks my heart when I read about others struggling with scales as well. Please don’t let it get to the point where it has that much power over you that it begins to negatively affect your life. Nothing about the semblance of control you feel you are grasping at when obsessive weighing starts is any sort of actual control. Your body does what it wants and your weight loss is happening regardless of you weighing yourself so often or not. It’ll only drive you crazy and make you unhappy. I’ve been ordered by my surgeon to only weigh myself once a week (forever!), and have been able to stick to it. My husband knows about my history and keeps an eye on me as well ☺️ If you or anyone else would like to chat about this for some support, please do let me know. 💕
  10. Hi all I’m 16 days post op and down 15lbs which I’m ok with. I lost a stone pre op in the two week liver shrink diet as well so 29lbs altogether. The only day I haven’t lost was yesterday when I went on a short gentle hike but also struggled to get all my fluids in. I’ve ordered some protein shots as I hate the protein shakes. I’ve also got some unflavoured protein powder now as well and that’s ok but the flavoured ones are too sweet for me, I’ve never been a sweet tooth even before the op. im also going to only get weighed on a Monday from now on as daily is too tense for me!
  11. 14 days post op today I just can’t believe it has already been 14 days! I finally started loosing again. I did a 4 day stall. My sister had bypass 25 years ago and her daughter did too 5 years ago thank god because even though I had the sleeve I don’t know what I would do without my sisters help and wisdom! I am down 11 pounds since surgery which my sister said is really good especially since I only had 80 to loose preop. I guess I am more impatient than I had ever realized lol I hope everyone’s doing good - feeling way better today but my port site above the belly button still hurts a lot for some reason. - I am going to only weigh in and do measurements on Weds from now on. Btw - I was 41 inches in my waist preop and today I was 35 inches in my waist! I think I’m pretty sure where I lost most the weight from! Have a great week everyone!

    February 2022 Surgery Buddies

    I don't know when my surgery date is yet, but I have a TNE appointment today. Then next week I get to talk with my dietitian and nurse practitioner and then my cardiologist. Hopefully after all of those appointments, I will get to get my surgery date. Hopefully at the end of January beginning of February. 😁💜
  13. If you just had the surgery a few weeks ago, you are likely in the 3 week stall. It happens to almost everyone. You will start losing weight again. As others have said, it's completely possible to lose weight and gain it all back. You have to follow the rules of the program, but the restriction is there to guide you... for a time. Hang in there! It's a head game as much as anything.

    Weight gain or standstill

    Lesson I have recently learned the hard way... I had GP on 12-21-21, surgery weight 316lbs. I dropped to 300lbs in 1.5 weeks and was thrilled, and then stalled there for a few days. I did some reading, asked a provider and was given this advice.... 1. Weigh yourself weekly, not daily 2. Understand that this is a journey and lifestyle change, taking your weight is like taking a snapshot or polaroid of a moment of the journey. Sometimes it is nice to track progress, but it doesn't change the journey you are on. 3. WLS is a tool, not a formula. Your body will change based on not only WLS but food/water intake, environmental conditions, etc... Follow the guidelines and recommendations, don't sweat the small stuff, and the weight should drop over time. I woke up this morning and felt skinnier, but based on this advice did not stress about some number on a scale. Hope this helps! I'm new and learning but it really helped me.

  16. Okay, so it's been two full weeks on the WW program and I've lost 3 pounds. I'm happy with that rate of loss and feel like it'll increase now that I'm transitioned fully from a no-carb diet to a more well-rounded diet as there would have been a period where I would have gained weight when reintroducing carbs. Overall it's easy to do, kinda fun to track and measure and explore. Plus you can't beat the variety of foods you're allowed to have. Anybody else doing WW?
  17. My heart goes out to you. Please find a new better counselor that'll help you and keep regular two week appointments or something to stay in check. Check with your insurance plan to see if they cover addiction recovery programs. I suffer from Clinical Depression and Anxiety Disorder, so I know about using food to mask/treat my problems and while that's not alcohol like you're talking about (I don't drink) it's a similar "addiction" and coping mechanism. I take antidepressants and participate in regular counseling.

    Am I really gonna lose weight?

    I had the lapband in 2009 and due to complications had to get it removed and got the bypass all fairly quickly and I had the revision on 12/15. I struggled with post op diet until this week when I started to eat some puréed foods but I am just not losing weight. Emotionally really frustrating that I went through all this and not seeing results.
  19. Originally I started at 315, got sleeved in late December 2016, made it all the way down to 195 in about 7 months or so. I had several major issues in a short amount of time, including losing my job, having a health issue with one of my children, starting my own business and then losing it, so I had a lot going on and didn't focus on keeping with the program. When I started my two-week fast at the beginning of November 2021 in preparation for revision surgery, I was about 293.
  20. Not sure if your age but are you still menstruating? I lost 13.5 pounds post op in the first week but 2nd week and now 3 rd week I lost nothing, but week 2 was before my cycle and week 3 was my cycle.. I’m waiting for my body to get back to normal hormonal levels. I stopped weighing myself daily because it was messing with my head. I know during surgery it was my ovulation time so I expect to lose weight again after my cycle is over up until a week after ovulation and then stall again. Everyone is different but ppl don’t correlate their cycle with their weight loss stagnation or progress enough. Just mu opinion. Once you understand your luteal phase and follicular phase I find this helps tremendously. Best of luck!!

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

    It is really hard when the scales don't play ball or we don't lose as much as we want. I had a few gains over the holidays and man that is hard to take when you're pretty much sticking to the letter of the law. But - stalls and gains will always end if you stick to the plan. Slow steady weight loss is just as good as big whooshes and probably better for your body. I have lost 19lbs since the day of my surgery 7 weeks ago, and only 11 of those have been since I got out of hospital. But every other year since the dawn of time I would have gained 5lbs over that sort of time if I wasn't on one of my never ending diets. So WE ARE WINNING! Some just win faster than others and they're really lucky 😊
  22. Firstly, you have done so amazingly well this year PLUS you've seen where you're going wrong and are doing something about it, so I have no doubt at all that you will lose those last 30lbs. Everyone here has given really good advice so as a fellow sugarholic I would just echo that, especially the cutting out of all sugar, all slider foods, and going back to basics - either yes, re-set your diet with a 2 week pre-op diet stint, or straight back to 3 meals of: protein first, veg next, carbs last (or not at all) and protein-heavy snacks in between if you need them - your greek yoghurt sounds ideal. I go for slices of chicken or turkey or even ham because they are easy to carry about. Or a hard boiled egg if you're really hungry in between meals. For work lunches I love soup (heavy on the beans/lentils etc so you get your protein) or a chicken salad. Don't forget to load up on fluids before you eat and no drinking at all for at least half an hour after - if I forget and drink soon after eating I get hungry again quickly too!     Anyone for October 2020?

    I am post op bypass 13 months ( surgery was 10/07/2020) ) and am I now drinking alcohol every night . I have gained back a few pounds Like 8 and am scared to death. I feel like I am heading back toward terrible habits and need to regain back control now. I am working with a Psychologist that's not very good for PTSD issues and major depressive disorder. I have got control of that but I have now a new problem= alcohol! A year ago, I would never think of drinking on a week night or much at all but now it's become my new addiction and it leads to me over eating and then the dreaded weight gain. I have now drank every night for the past two months and I can't seem too let it go. This had never been me before as my family is filled with alcoholics and I could never understand it and now I do? It kills pain and drowns out so much. It definitely affects me differently after surgery and takes very little to have any affect at all. I am drunk or affected at sip 3. It is such a great escapism and good lord with Covid and the way of the world all I want to do is escape in a legal way and alcohol is legal. I am on disability and have a lot of pain issues and the doctors and psych's try to say its a lot mental / PTSD/ Stress related but they haven't lived in my body. I have had over 15 surgeries and have had many scars and all kinds of mesh - They don't live this body and don't feel my pain. They tell me I need to learn to live with it. Well hell , I am doing the best I can and alcohol does a great job of dimming that. But I know I need to find a better answer and am looking to my community as I know I can't be alone in my pain or journey. My New Year's resolution is to get back to that person that doesn't drink in response to pain. That learns to deal with it. That get's her weight under control in the meantime. Sending out an SOS to my community and asking for good advice or just shared empathy to know I am not the only one and that we do not travel on this journey alone.

    Painkillers

    I am a nurse. Go to the ER. You should not be in severe pain 7 weeks post op I have had multiple C sections and major abdominal surgery in the past and my pain was gone or tolerable after 2 weeks.
