Overall how have your moods changed?
Steve Ney replied to WannabeH's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Right after my surgery in Feb 2015, I felt great. I had a little bit of anxiety about a month later as the weight loss slowed down and that feeling recurred several times as the weight plateaued for a few days over the course of the following several months. At the sixth month point in August, I was very happy with the progress. I had reached a weight that I was satisfied with. Then in mid August, I had a bowel obstruction which required a resection and revision of the gastric bypass and ended up in the hospital for three weeks. Since then, I've had three additional partial obstructions which resolved without surgery. It has been a roller coaster ride since August and I have sunk into depression. Or rather the underlying depression which always seems to be there, came to the surface. I'm back on psych meds. I do not regret having had the surgery. I'm in a much better place and can do so much more than I had ever done before. I have a positive and hopeful outlook for the future, at least when the symptoms of the depression aren't weighing me down. I think overall the feelings you feel will be all over the place and will depend on your physiology, history, progress, situation, and outlook. The best thing I've found to do is to live each day as it comes. -
I had a similar problem. This was about 7-8 yrs. after a revision. Ended up having surgery for a hiatal hernia. Showed most of my anatomy (gastric pouch) was above the diaphrahm. Anyway, it solved the problem.

Help needed to add another ticker and change surgery status
Katja posted a topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
Hello Friends! I had a lap band done years ago and have a ticker here showing that and my status as lap band patient. I now have had the revision from lap band to bypass and would like to add a new ticker and change my patient status. Can anyone give me the directions on how to change all this? I can't find it anywhere and don't remember how I did it 14 years ago! If anyone from Bariatric Pal sees this, please include an instructional section to the website. Thanks! -
Not to be too graphic, but I just found out I need a port revision. My port flipped...and I think it was a wild night that may have flipped it!! Maybe not, but that's the only time I have been aware of "feeling" my port since I had the surgery. So if something feels uncomfortable, stop and try something different!!

Revision from Gastric Sleeve to Gastric Bypass-due to acid reflux?
ren0318 replied to ren0318's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
GmaDiana Thanks for the response! So you've not had any issues then? That's great. Where were you weight/health wise before you had the revision? Was anything different eating wise afterward? The Dr. said my pouch might be much smaller... Thanks Bearhugs for the words of encouragement! -
Revision from Gastric Sleeve to Gastric Bypass-due to acid reflux?
ren0318 replied to ren0318's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Ortego07, thank you for your reply! I'm having problems responding directly to responses. How far into your sleeve were you when you had your revision? Also did you lose more weight? How long were you off work? What about hospital stay? Sorry for all the questions! Thanks Ren Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Hi Jane, I'm having my sleeve surgery on July 13th. I am having revision surgery from a slipped band...Just a few questions which i haven't been able to find the answers to so far - How long does the surgery take? I will probably be having open surgery as I only had an operation last year but I guess the operation duration will be similar to laparoscopic won't it? What sort of pain can I expect (don't worry about telling me it all!) and will I be on my feet straight afterwards? Were you tested for leakage in any way before you left hospital? I could do with a step-by-step guide of everything to expect including my diet afterwards etc.! Many thanks for you help and hope you are doing well. Helenxxx

Anyone else have a staged surgery lapband removal and waited for vsg months out?
kristenmh replied to peanut2772's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's totally normal (it happens to almost all of us) to stall between weeks 3 and 5 post-op. I'm also seeing a trend of stalling again around month 5. Most of the March 2017 sleevers I know report stalling about 5 months out. It's true that revision patients lose slower -- I made a very conscious decision to throw everything I have at losing wait in the first six months. I started exercising (walking) 2 weeks post-op. At month 5, I'm doing cardio (elliptical) 4x a week, weight training 4x a week and doing yoga 2x a week. My calories are hovering between 800 and 1000 a day. As my weight loss has started to slow a bit, I've just started experimenting with Intermittent Fasting. I figure the harder I work during the "honeymoon" phase, the more likely it is that I'll have good habits to sustain me as I approach goal and maintenance. -
SLOW RECOVERY?
slikchik10 replied to bandtovsgdone52813's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too had a revision (5/20). Although mine has gone very well...I have been off work for 3 weeks and in the last week I discovered that being out that long was good. I teach middle school and decided to pop in for the last day's awards ceremony. I was wiped from just doing that. Then yesterday I went to wrap up my classroom....again, wiped out from something so piddle. I even conked out both Sat & Sun by sleeping most of the day away. And today would be my back to work day but we're out now. I can't imagine the classroom right now, whew! I say all this because I have to remind myself I'm healing from major surgery even though it didn't cut me wide open. My 45 yr. old body needs time. I rest when I'm feeling bad and move when I'm doing well...listen to those signals. You & I both know why we did this....otherwise choosing the band in the first place wouldn't have happened (6yrs. ago for me). I want permanent change and I have to work on it a day at a time. You've mentioned you've been through a lot, but think how much you're gaining through these lessons....patience, listening to the body's signals, etc. All things we've not really done before this experience. Chin up...know there's a bunch of us out here trudging along with you and wishing you well. Good luck! -
I am scheduled for sleeve revision to bypass May 2nd. Who else is having surgery and would like to support each other?
-
Welcome! Oh my gosh I’m sorry you had to have revision surgery but sounds like you caught it in good time and you’re on the mend now. I keep telling myself this soon shall pass! I’m on soft/purée foods now and so far so good. I still need to drink one shake a day to get my protein numbers.

Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?
cinward2001 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well, considering that I'm 2 days post-op from band to sleeve revision...yeah, I'd have WLS all over again. I was happy with the band for almost 7 yrs and expect to be happy with the sleeve. I've BEEN living my life eating smaller amounts, having to monitor what goes in the mouth, etc..but as the band stopped "helping," the weight was creeping up. Plus, I'd had a lot of scar tissue form and reflux, so it was time for the band to go. But you know...even WITH my prior experience with WLS...having to do a month of liquids, etc...it's not easy. I don't truly want to eat anything and KNOW that the weightloss is important, but there's still a bit of grieving. Accepting that I still needed help, that I simply can't eat whatever I want and still maintain the weight I want, etc...WLS will never be an easy "out" for anyone or any easy road. It just makes it doable. -
Hi! I'm not technically a December sleever but sooo close, my surgery is scheduled for November 30. Dr. Jossart is my surgeon. I was originally going to be sleeved on 9/26 but ended up with my band removed (I'm a revision from a lap band to a sleeve), and my gall bladder out. I am so excited and I look forward to hearing about everyones journey and successes.

I am scheduled for band to sleeve revision on Jan. 23! I start my liquid diet (Barissentials) on Monday Not looking forward to that, but 2 weeks is minor in the grand scheme!! Sending blessings to all of us January sleevers and am glad there are so many of us to support each other!

Are revisions REALLY necessary?
LisaMergs replied to Babbs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I don't know how a person gets obese without overeating on a regular basis! But I have seen those posts too. I have no idea. As far as food addiction, I think I used and sometimes abused food but I'm not one of those that struggled to comply with the food stages/rules after surgery by any means. So I actually don't think I was ever a food addict. But if we are saying food addict is like other substance addiction, there must also be recovery right? Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App I got obese not by overeating, but by having to take 60mg of prednisone a day, monthly decadron IV infusions and the inability to be active due to a debilitating illness. The end result of the steroids? No metabolism. Little to no adrenal function. There are those of us around here that didn't overeat. I'm no better than anyone else because mine wasn't a food addiction, I'm simply saying that there ARE other reasons for serious weight gain and inability to lose it. I personally know several people who had Lap Band and serious repercussions from it. Horrid stuff!! Two went on to have Sleeve, one did nothing after it was removed. The two sleeve revisions have been Ubër successful. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Are revisions REALLY necessary?
this sucks replied to Babbs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So my question is to all of you, how many of you are revisions from LapBand? I tend to get really pissy about people who haven't lived with a LapBand judging me for having revision surgery. If you haven't walked in my shoes, don't judge-you haven't experienced multiple "stuck" episodes where you feel like you will die because you cannot even swallow your own saliva. You haven't experienced the feeling of food sitting in your esophagus, not getting past the band, because the Band has impacted your ability to swallow. My request is that you not be quick to judge what you don't know. Don't make assumptions that band failure is strictly caused by the user. Don't judge my ability to be successful with the VSG because I had a device in place that did not work the way it was supposed to. Don't for a minute assume anything about any of us that are forced to revise-I was prepared for my LapBand surgery and I fully expected to have the band until I died. I was compliant with routine maintenance-saw the surgeon, bariatric Doctor, weight management center staff including dietitian and exercise physiologist for over six years and sought out therapy to address my food issues for three years. I don't need any of you to judge whether or not I was worthy of revision surgery. Bottom line is, if this isn't your journey, don't make assumptions about those of us who are. And while I'm on this, why does it matter to you WHY someone is revising?? Does it impact your life if I choose to revise and I am approved by my medical care team? Just saying... It's getting closer to port revision day, I know I should have done some exercise today but I've just been so tired...I'm trying to kick a cold as well. Well, I hope the port revision is as simple as everyone says it is cuz tuesday is the day! Everyone else sounds like their doing great...I just checked out the weight thread and its amazing how much people have lost since April. I hope after my revision I'll get some restriction and I'll be on my way as well!

Leslie- I added you to my YIM, so message me when you get on it. I am usually online everyday from work. I probably won't be on much tonight because I'm packing and getting ready to go out of town for Memorial Day weekend. I will be online today until around 4:30 when I get off from work. Everything is going to be fine so don't you worry. Try and keep a positive attitude. I know it's hard. My cell is 229-798-2776 if you would like to call and chat sometime. And that goes for anyone in our forum. So try and be patient until your surgery. You will get your port positioned correctly, get your fill and be on your merry way! It took me about a week and a half to have the tenderness from the revision to go away. Just take your drugs and wait it out, before you know it, you'll be back to your old self again! -

Today is the first day I can test my "fill". The revision went great on Friday. So far I have just maintained - that's for the last two weeks. I go back to Dr. B. on 6/24 for my post-surgery follow-up. I'm hoping he will do a fill then if I need it. My stomach has been making some weird noises this morning! How is everyone else? -
Boo Boo Kitty's PS Journey
kareyquilts replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
BBK: I don't think that you should have anyone touch you that you no longer like or believe in. I would take a lot of pictures and document your interactions with this doctor. I think that he has some malpractice issues even if he did warn you have some complications. Did he expain that he would be practice new techniques on you? Did you give your permission? I would write him a carefully prepared letter and let him know that you are not going to settle for the level of care that he has provided and then I would try and make his insurance pay for a revision with some one else. I know that it is messy and uncomfortable to be confrontative, but he's not listening to you and you're not going to get his attention any other way! You deserve to have both of your breasts to be close to the same size and to look pleasing. This guy is not listening to you because either he doesn't care of he doesn't want to be reminded that he failed at something. Too bad! I hope you'll keep us posted and I wish you the best! As far as the Make Me Heal thing goes, I guess I wouldn't do it, but that is because most people think that if you have WLS you have taken the easy way out. People don't understand how much work it is. Maybe you can help change this view point, but you'll have very little input into how the finished product will be represented. You're probably more comfortable with all this than I am, so of course, if you're not worried about what strangers think, than I would go for it! -

Hello all... Well I am surprised, in shock and awe and HAPPY to say that my surgeon was VERY VERY VERY nice today. I told him how I felt and hje agreed and then some! He apologized and said that he did make the wrong choice in surgery. He is going to do a breast revision, tt revision and lipo! If my insurance will not cover it, which it won't he said he will "Eat the cost"!! I am still in shock! He is going to do more than I would have enve asked for but I am certainly NOT going to turn it down! I will be taking some photos ;ater and will post them. They are actually very hard for me to do!I can post all day the pretty me with clothes, but the other is very different!
