  1. You're actually on one of the worst days hate to say. Days 2 & 3 for me were worse than day 1 but I slept as much as possible so didn't have to deal with it too much. Each day will get better

    APPROVED!! Travel question

I travel a lot for work and also for pleasure. I was told no lifting a suitcase for 4 weeks, so I've told my boss I can't travel for four weeks. I haven't had surgery yet, so I can't tell you if four weeks will be enough time. Do you have to take a "heavy" suitcase? Can you pack light? I always do carry on for work.

    APPROVED!! Travel question

Please discuss with your doctor. I had a similar situation. He was more concerned about flying too close to the surgery due to possible blood clots. It does seem that 6 weeks would be enough time....but ask the professionals.
  4. was there a period after surgery when you felt fuzzy-headed and had difficulty focusing (on anything that wasn't related to your surgery and recovery)? I've read that many people feel tired for a few weeks, and had difficulty working full days for a while (going to bed right after work). But how was your concentration after surgery? How long did it take until you were able to give 100% mentally? I anticipate surgery for late June/early July. I can work from home some, and I'm definitely planning not to work at all the first week after surgery. But then I need to focus on a big project with an August deadline. It's a desk job, not physical, but does demand a lot of written analysis and focus. If it matters for recovery time, I'm pretty fit (daily cardio) and have a low-ish BMI. Thank you for all your insight and tips!

    5 Weeks Out

5 weeks out I was eating purees. Any Soup ... I pureed it. My fav was smoked ham & lentil. Great Protein, healthy carbs and bold flavor. I also did chicken veggie a lot, too. I transitioned to turkey chili and also enjoyed clam chowder, but the ham and lenil was my go-to. I was so desperate for flavor and that fit the bill. As time moved on, I pureed less and less to transition my stomach to more solid foods. Worked for me.
  6. I had 1 pair of white Capri's, that are the same size as the ones that are falling off my butt, finally fit TODAY ! Different company, so made smaller. These are like Linen, they breath. So in this Heat Wave, I thought I would try them on again "they didn't fit last month" Well with that 6 Lbs. that I lost,,, they fit ! This is the last of my big summer cloths. After this,,, Gee Whizz, I have to buy all new cloths :welldoneclap: My Heart is breaking wright? Wrong ! I earned that, and I'm looking forward to this. So I guess by the end of next month maybe "cause I go in for a fill next week" later. I will put all my big size 22 cloths, in our clothing exchange. So I will be looking forward to some cloths from there too. Just sharing the good news. Shirley.
  7. Im finally on the postop team. Had surg on 4/16, so Im 3 days postop. First day waa ruff, but each day gets easier. Little less pain, more soreness and crampy than anything. Wish I could pass this gas...and Im walking to help. Any suggestions how u pass gas?
  8. I have always had issues with sleep and take a couple of prescription medications. They helped maintain sleep through the night until now. Im only a couple of weeks postop. Now I take my medications and go to bed at 11pm and i am up by 4am. Could it be lack of activity or mental stimulation or just normally after surgery? 9. Today is my anniversary and my husband took me to our favorite restaurant. The waitress was looking at me crazy. I ate 1/2 crab cake and 3 spoons of soup. I was so full. I was sitting talking to my husband and just thinking last year at this time I would be able to eat 2 crab cakes ands whole bowl of lobster soup for a starter and then eat lobster dinner. Thank God I am on the other side.

    Day 3 after surgery.

Yes, entirely normal when you're afraid of what might happen if you eat! I've only dim memories of the post surgical phase, it was over five years ago now, but I've recently had a bowel obstruction and that was pretty darn painful. I was 3 days of nil by mouth in the hosptial, then onto post procedural fluids. It took me 2 weeks to get up the courage to move off mushies, and only at the urging of my surgeon and oncologist who were threatening sustagen (urgh) because I'd dropped to 58 kgs which is well and truly in the underweight territory for me. I was really scared of a recurrence and felt quite sure I could live on mushies indefinitely, lol. But naturally everything was absolutely fine. Post lapband - you might find your weight does strange things as you move through phases. I mean you've done pre op - and probably had significant weight loss - then pre surgical fasting, then a while with no food and then liquids, move onto mushies or solids and your weightloss will most probably stop, that's if you dont actually gain a couple of pounds. Be logical - you CANT gain 3 lb of fat overnight, its physiologically impossible, you know its got to be Water weight. Dont let it get you down, try not to weigh yourself daily, stick with the progam and you will succeed at this, but know that weight doesnt drop steadily, logically or predictably week by week and prepare for that fact
  14. First of all, I am a Family Nurse Practitioner. I have worked in the medical field since I turned 18 years old. I have struggled with obesity since my early 20's. When I found out my SIHO insurance would not pay for Gastric Sleeve or any other type of obesity surgery, I was very upset. My friend who is an RN started looking at surgery in other countries. I was not sure about trying surgery anywhere except in the US. We both did a lot of research and I finally settled on somewhere I had already visited before. Puerto Vallarta is where I visited on a Cruise. We arrived at the airport on June 8th, 2015, my best friend Sarah the RN and I were met by the cab service that Dr. Hidalgo and Jerald the p.t care coordinator set up. The very nice man took us to our hotel and told us when our driver would meet us the next day to take us to the Hospital. The hotel was beautiful, our room was very nice. The next day when we got to the CMQ Premier hospital I could not believe my eyes. It was so new and modern I was in shock. In the back of my mind I was scared that it would be some type of a sham. Dr. Hidalgo met us down in the lobby and welcomed us. English was never a problem anytime during my visit there. My surgery was excellent. The hospital was so clean and the staff so friendly I would go back there anytime. For you medical professionals. They even did a "time out" in surgery to make sure who I was, the surgery I was there for, reviewed all my medical HX, allergy's, and asked everyone in the surgery suite if they thought there was any reason the surgery should be canceled. After my surgery if I needed anything, my call light was answered in a minute or less and not by someone though and intercom, but my nurse in person. Never seen that in the US hospital. I was up an walking by late afternoon and did so well I was able to be discharged home the next day after I passed my leak test and ate my first liquids. I was back to work in 3 1/2 weeks. I am doing great and have lost weight at a safe pace. 37 lbs. so far. I eat a very small amount and I am full. Not like before when I tried to diet and always felt hungry. I am taking Vitamins as required after surgery and doing better now 2 mts. after surgery getting enough Protein down. My energy level is so much better. I had terrible GERD before surgery and coughed all the time. I blamed most of it on my Asthma. I am coughing about 75% less now and do now wake up in middle of night with acid in my throat. I believe if I had not had this surgery with a BMI of 49 I would of not been able to live a long life, my BMI is now 43 and I feel great. I have not had any problems at all. If you decide to do this, just make sure you read all their before and after surgery information pages. Try to find someone who also has had this surgery so they can be your surgery buddy you can talk to after. This always helps. I can just not say enough about the TEAM of Professionals, that took care of me. Thank you so much and God Bless You All.
  15. I had the same thing. The yellow bruising is a bruise that is healing. My bruises weren't all gone until about 2 1/2 weeks post op.

    Hours away

Definitely. I think my biggest challenge has been to stay away from those bad slider foods. I have done really well, so far, staying away from them. I don’t buy them for the house, because if I do I—we, meaning my family and I—will eat them. However, in the past couple of weeks an old family friend has returned (she is like a sister to me, an aunt to my children) and she is constantly buying and bringing junk food to the house since her return. I have stalled since she has arrived because I find it difficult to stop myself from eating them. They are so addicting and unfulfilling. I finally—this morning as a matter of fact—gathered them all up and threw them in the trash and I called her and said, “DO NOT bring any more junk, please!” Other than that, it has been smooth sailing. I MAKE time to exercise, even if I have to get up at 4 a.m. I buy healthy foods, stay away from bad carbs. I don’t miss the old greasy, unhealthy foods. Usually, when I eat something unhealthy, it is planned and accounted for and I don’t feel guilty about eating it. Post-op is difficult for anyone. You have to adjust to the restriction and you have more restriction because of the swelling due to surgery, but it will soon pass. You will adjust. You will discover there is a new, healthier you underneath, and you will love it! I truly hope and wish you the best. You can message me anytime if you have questions.
  17. I am finally in the 30's with my BMI, 39.8, and excited. So not sure if that is or is not an NSV, but I'll take it. I know I post how slow my weight loss is, and still feeling it could be better, but excited BMI is in the 30's. I think when I first started, May 2014 my BMI was 49. I did my 6 month requirement for the insurance, which finished in Nov 2014, but had a work injury on my knee and fractured my wrist, so took a break from the program, then started up again April 2015 and finally had the surgery 8/3. Thanks to everyone for their responses, and I love reading these posts and everyones experiences.
  18. I lost a total of 18 lbs pre-op, in a span of 6 weeks. After the first three weeks, the NUT asked me to increase my Protein and take it easy, because I had met my first half of the requirements.
  19. What type of machine do you use to purée the tuna and picker juice? I'll need to be doing this in about 4/5 weeks.

    Still thinking

I am a week post op and it was tough. I dont regret it per say but sometimes feel like it is just not going to work for me. I guess it is fear. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. I'm 3 weeks out and I "gained" about 1.5 lbs and haven't lost anything in almost a week. It's not possible that I've gained any real weight, I'm not consuming more than 500 calories a day. I guess I'm just rolling with it, see what happens over time!
  22. I am sort of in the same place. I have been making poor food choices, overeating, and not exercising. I have lost 80 lbs since Dec and am 15lbs to onederland, but have been slowly gaining (about 3 lbs back now) and am freaking out. I have been out and about, and really trying to eat smaller amounts, but have found myself grazing. I would love to go get a fill, but I think my restriction is fine. I still have discomfort occationally, and am worried that if I get a fill, I will be too tight again. I really should do the pouch test, but I get so hungry lately that my stomach hurts. Granted, the hunger is 4-5 hours apart like it should be, but that is when I eat a good amount of food. When I eat less, I am hungry in much less time (1-3 hours). Should I try for another fill?

    Why all this noise??

i have a ton of noise! Gurgles, belches, you name it. I am 3 years post op, had to have my gall bladder removed and another fill about 6 mod. ago. The noises really picked up then. I am going to get back on gas X to try to help quiet it down.

    In testing phase

I hear you! I am 4 weeks post op now and I have 2 mantras: "I'M NEVER GOING BACK!" and "IT's JUST NOT WORTH IT!" (when tempted to taste or take a bit of something not allowed.) This is way too much work, money, and risk to throw it away. Use this pre-op time to really clean up your eating. After surgery, you want every bite to be as nutritionally dense as possible, and as healthy as possible. The "New you" deserves nothing less. Get rid of the artificial sweeteners, colors and flavorings. Get rid of the soda and caffeine. (Caffeine may come back later, but you may find you feel better and more stable without it and really not want it anymore. I LOVED coffee, but can't even stomach the thought of it now!) Absolutely get rid of the sugar! ALL sugar! Get rid of processed food. Cook it yourself. Get rid of simple carbs/starches. Minimize wheat or get rid of it altogether. Learn to enjoy other whole grains like quinoa, brown rice, millet, teff, amaranth. Learn to enjoy veggies - LOTS of veggies! They will be the life saver of you success. Of course, get rid of alcohol and tobacco. If you can start making these lifestyle changes NOW, you will have a much easier time after surgery. Recovery is hard enough without having to cold turkey off addictions like sugar and caffeine. Use this time to really EMBRACE the changes. Each change you make means you "WILL NEVER GO BACK!" As far as temptations go, yes they are there, but..... "IT'S JUST NOT WORTH IT!" I had to fix a full Mexican meal for a family party, make muffins for work, and cake for a birthday party. I did take a couple of tiny tastes to check for seasoning, but then I spit them out. I remind myself that my time will come to have some of these things, but not right now. Each choice you make is a choice to "go back" or "never go back." Remember that a slip up one day is a mistake. A slip up 2 days in a row is called RELAPSE. Just get back on board immediately. I found that keeping my food journal is critical. I plan all my meals (as tiny as they are) the day before, so there is no guess work the next day. We got ourselves where we are by a lot of bad choices over a long time. (Even if we thought they were good choices at the time with the dieting, starvation, and other crazy stuff we did to wreck our metabolisms and disrupt the normal hormone pathways.) It will take a lot of GOOD choices to rewire our brains and reframe our thinking about food - what is wonderful (veggies) and what is poison (sweets and simple carbs.) We can do it! Let your OCD and rules work for you!!!!!
