    FEEL GOOD NSV

I'm 5 weeks out and haven't seen my youngest daughter in 4 weeks....she goes to college. She came home and said OH MY GOSH MOM you LOST A LOT OF WEIGHT...WOW I can really tell! You are looking good...I didn't think you would look that good already! LOL I wanted to say GEE THANKS but instead I did my "STRUT YOUR STUFF WALK" and gave her a BIG HUG AND KISS!!!!! I MISSED my BABY!! LOL That was my FEEL GOOD MOMENT!!! I hope EVERYONE has a GREAT weekend.
  2. Hello everyone, I am a newly banded person and so far so good. I was banded on October 9th by Dr. Rumbaut in Mexico. Just from the liqiud diet alone I have already lost 30 pounds and loving it. I have a long way to go but it sure was a nice start. Getting back to the soft food was nice because that three weeks (1 pre op and two post op) of liquid diet is a killer. Next week I get to go back to all regular foods. I am vry glad for this forum so I can talk to other people who have had the same procedure because I have only told very few people what I have done. It is not that I am ashamed of getting it done but maybe more of a failier of not being able to lose weight on my own. I am not really sure how to feel actually. Anyways, maybe I am a bit confused!!!

    What do I do???

Okay well this is my first time being on here, I posted on obesityhelp.com and found this site aslo. To begin I had lap band surgery on Feb 18, 2009 and started out at 274 on surgery day. I weighed myself and I only lost 16 pounds down to 258. A week after I had surgery I flew back overseas to go back to work the flight was fine. I have had good days eating and bad days. I didnt work out much in the Month of March or Arpril. In March I was still sore I guess because of the flight and my incisions hadnt healed all the way. In April I felt much better but I was doing to much working out because 10 to 15 minutes I felt real tired and winded so I toned it down. I finally got into a routine and got up to 20 to 25 minutes on the elliptical. At the end of April I took on a step aerobics class MWF which last about an hour and doing another 45 minutes later on in the night. I also work out on T-Th for 45 minutes the extra work out is on the elliptical. Even with all this working out I just wanted to know is it normal not to lose. I havent had a fill since my surgery and was thinking that was the reason but I dont know. Does anybody have any answers.

    Food's Hold

As a young child, I grew up poor. We rarely ate out or got special treats. As I got money of my own, I spent it on the foods that I wanted but could never have. I am sure that this was a large part of me becoming overweight. Everywhere I would go, I would think about food. Where would I eat? What would I eat? I almost felt like I needed to eat everywhere that I went, even if I wasn't hungry. I think it was because I could eat in these situations, where as a child/teen I would have never been able to eat. Fast forward to my 3 week post-op experience... I went to a baseball game last night for a buck night special. Hot dogs, beer, pepsi, and popcorn were only $1. Its a good thing I am still so close to surgery, because it was hard to refuse these items that really are on the top of my favorite foods list. It rained, which I think helped too. At least that way I didn't have to smell the popcorn. Food has such a hold on so many of us. Its a daily effort to remember why we had surgery and why we are changing our lives. Let's all drink a Protein shot to our successes and move on from our failures.

    incision pain!

Mine looked pretty much like yours. I had one bigger incision that had quite a bit of bruising around it, and it took almost 4 weeks for that bruise to go away completely. I think it is normal.

    Hospital affer 6 weeks

i'm on the track, but the tunnel is nowhere in sight!!! lol it is a daily thing, every day is different. I'm having a hard time w/my changing taste buds. What used to be tolerated and good sometimes is awful and undigestable. Example? Applesauce. I used to eat the natural unsweet MOTT'S applesauce daily. Post op, wk3 I tried, it tasted weird and texture was ick! I just gave up and stuck to jello! I have reverted to my week 2/3 stage foods just to be able to eat/stomach some substanence! Sigh...it's a long road, but i'm on the wagon rolling along...keep your chin up and don't be afraid to take it slow. You have to go at your own body's pace (and tastes!) You're going to find your way, i know i'm still looking!

    Hospital affer 6 weeks

I feel awful for you! I had such a horrible time when I first got home too. I hated the taste of everything, food and liquids. About the 4th day after surgery a good friend of mine came and took care of me to get liquids in me so I wouldn't be hospitalized. If it hadn't been for her I would have been admitted. She cooked a turkey for me! I couldn't eat the turkey right away but the broth!!! OMG! It tasted wonderful and I literally lived on the turkey broth for the next following 2 weeks! The point of me telling you my story is to let you know that you need to just keep trying different things until you find something that you can eat or drink. TRY, TRY, AND TRY SOME MORE! You are going to be just fine....Good luck on your journey!

    Pre-approval frustration

Today is day 8 after I have completed all of my doctor's requirements for the surgery. Today is day 4 after the day my doc's surgery coordinator should of submitted my papers to the Insurance for approval. As of 3pm today - Insurance received nothing. I still can not reach the 'right' person at the doctor's office to find out why. Doctor is on vacation second half of Feb, and I have to have 2 weeks of pre-op diet... That means February surgery is most likely out of the question. I now understand why NYU docs require psyche evaluation from all patients - they don't want us to go mental on them from all that delays.

    Flying

I used to love flying when I was younger. I grew up in Alaska with family in Texas, Indiana, and new Mexico. Flew all over the country, regularly. Flew intermittently through my 20s for business and vacations. For a number of reasons, I hadn't flown since before 9/11 so my business trip this week has been my first foray on a plane with the tsa nonsense and the whole carry on luggage nonsense. I now hate flying. And it's only partially because the plane seats are so freaking tiny. 17" across... I looked it up. That's nuts. And not just for wide loads like me... most athletic men have broader shoulders than that. No way to have any speck of personal space. I'll lose weight after the surgery and not have to squeeze my butt and thighs into a seat, but it's not going to make me any shorter or do much about my shoulder width. My knees were touching the seat in front of me and the head rest was in my shoulders. And that's not even considering the dammed tsa. That was a nightmare. I will be fixing my name on my passport and getting pre check as soon as humanly possible when I get home. I also think I'm checking a bag next time, because trying to pack for a week business trip in a roller is just nuts. I'm not sure where I was going with this, but needed to rant somewhere. It was a miserable airport and flight experience, I don't care for hotel stays, and I get to endure the airport and flight again tomorrow. Geez. sent from mobile device

    Getting Ahead Of Myself

Wow- 8 weeks until solids is a really long time. I spent one week on full liquids, one week on mushies then solids. I had no problems. However, I agree with others who are saying to call and check with your doctor before advancing your diet. Good luck!

    Tomorrow...

I'm seeing my surgeon for pre-op consult. We're going to set a date for the surgery (hoping for the week of the 20th, but will take sooner if offered!) Just so excited, scared, relieved, inquisitive, determined....*sigh* I could probably go on for days. I'm just ready. I'm ready for this weight to be taken off of my shoulders...figuratively and literally. I can't wait to be sitting on the losers' bench with all of you post-op'ers.
  14. I am only just over 3 weeks post so I can’t really help however I did see a reset diet to follow if you need to get back to how you were eating post op. Do you have Pinterest?

    Isnt it strange.....

I have noticed that same phenomenon.....my co-workers ttell me, "You have got to stop!!" and I will have just regained 3 pounds!!!!! Go figure!!! I am sorry you are going through a down patch and plateau. I hope it passes soon as you are too nice a person to be worried and depressed. When I stall I evaluate my journal and find all the "little" places I have slipped up and often find they add up to the problem. Best wishes and good luck. Mimi PS...where did your avatar go?

    Hunger pains

Oh I know this feeling! It happened when I was about two weeks or so out. I let myself get TOO hungry and it felt like someone was stabbing me with a knife. I will NEVER make that mistake again! I am glad you found the cause of yours and hope they don't ever visit you again
  17. Wow I don't see my surgeon till 2 weeks post op! Funny to see all the different orders from different surgeons on these forums

    FINALLY GOT MY DATE!!

I'm doing the pre-op diet really get now. Surgery in two weeks from yesterday!
  19. Has anyone been on the rollercoaster where it seems like your sleeve loves a particular food and then as time passes all of a sudden it doesn’t.? For example, my sleeve “liked” the crumbled Jimmy Dean turkey sausage for breakfast. Today, my sleeve did not like it, not even the taste! I didn’t eat this every morning but the few times I did I had no problems and I was excited that I found something I could eat. Then today I ate a soft scrambled egg white and the sausage and I got extremely nauseous and stomach upset! This is so frustrating! I’m only 5 weeks since vgs, does things eventually stabilize?
  20. I’m almost three weeks post op and I am having the hardest time sleeping. It takes me forever to fall asleep and then I keep waking up in the mid of the night- wide awake. I’ve been taking 10mg of Ambien, but even then it doesn’t work for me like it did prior to surgery. Is anyone else having sleep issues and does anyone know why??? I know I’m having pain and have a hard time getting comfortable, but that can’t be the entire reason for this erratic sleep pattern.
  21. Just got my date! Excited but pensive. I am a low BMI and thus a self pay, but my comorbidities make me feel like I just have to do it. I've spent most of my life rather slender until my thyroid threatened my life and it was removed. Add 75 pounds quickly and you get HBP, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, sleep apnea and an emergency gall bladder removal--all in four years! My stats are: Age 53 Height 5'6" BMI 34 SW 200 CW 200 Goal 145 Fantasy Weight 125 Good news is I don't have to pre-op weight loss and I only have to do special Meal Replacement shakes for three days prior!
  22. I haven't seen or talked to my band doc since early July, when I had my last fill, which was my sweet spot for awhile. I was feeling good. In late summer/early fall before I was preg, I noticed I was slowly being able to test the band and eat more quantities/types of food. My weight loss had slowed for sure by the time I found I was pregnant in November, but I always experience a little "loosening" of the fill in the weeks that follow it, and my weight loss also slowed because I was less motivated to behave and diet like a good bandster, so that's all my fault. I lost 50 lbs before I got preg, so I'm happy with that. My doc said very few of his preggo bandsters needed unfills during pregnancy. A huge amount of us had issues with the band in early pregnancy. Mine was tight for a few days here and there, then fine again. I also had very little morning sickness, which you also have to consider. If you get pregnant and are sick alot, most docs will want an unfill just to protect their hard surgical work in securing the band. As you know, vomiting is known to cause band slippages and other issues like esophagus erosion. I worked with my band, behaving on mushies and smaller meals on days/weeks it was being tempermental. Oddly, I was hungrier the first 8 weeks than I've been the past 4 weeks, which is good because I gained alot at first! Now it has tapered off and I actually lost 2 lbs. I was up 8 lbs in my first trimester! Not good when you want to only gain 15 the whole 40 wks. I still have days where I "slime" and spit up Water when I try to eat a meal, if I rest for a few minutes and try to eat after I "slime", I'm usually fine, but I did actually PB up some food the other day, which hasn't happened to me in 6 months! My band is still tempermental, open and relaxed some days, closed and tight others. I find that if it is tight at the beginning of the day, chances are it will remain that way all day.

band doc an integral part of pregnancy?

my band doc left the decisions up to me (i had been banded 2+ years and he figured i knew my body/my band the best)... in the beginning i got really tight, had unfill, then a fill then completely unfilled about 17 or so weeks (my choice)... im glad i did get the complete unfill due to port placement and where my uterus has grown to... good luck
  24. Getting my first fill on Friday after nearly three years banded. It can't come soon enough. I seem to be able to make good choices one day and then the next, I'm not. I went back for a handful of pretzels three...no...four times last night. I couldn't stop myself. So for punishment, I got on the scale this morning and saw that I was above 125. I swore I'd never put the weight back on but it's now more than 12 pounds from my lowest. I'm learning such a good lesson over this struggle to keep the weight off. I will always have the disease of obesity. I may have it under control at times, but I'll never be free of it. If my band isn't working, I'm going to put the weight back on. Simple as that. I've seen plenty of people post about running into trouble at some point but stupidly felt that I would somehow be immune as my head is/was so in the game. It's hard to admit I'm not Superwoman and I struggle like everyone else when my tool is not working the way it should. If I ever find myself having to remove the band, I won't hesitate to revise the surgery to another procedure. I won't fool myself into thinking I'm doing this on my own because I'm not. I told my sister on Sunday that I am gaining weight back because I need a fill. She is obese and I'm hoping she comes to the realization that WLS might help her as well. She has maintained that my success is about what's in my head, and not around my stomach and that I lost all that weight because I was in the right frame of mind. I'm hoping this shows her that it's not my will power alone that helped me but a combination of making good choices, along with a tool to tamp down the hunger so I could make those good choices. So...today is a new day and again I make the pledge to make the right choices. Here's hoping I can stick to it.

    Zero Carb Isopure - Gnc

Check the price at your GNC. Even with the buy 1, get one 1/2 off, I found that they were less expensive at Vitamin Shoppe. I like the ready-to-drink because of the convenience but they also have powder available. I often split the Isopure into 2 bottles (both 20 oz). I fill both bottles up with a flavored water (many of the Isopure's have a bit of a strange taste to me). I sip on these throughout the day. Gives me 40 oz of fluid and 40 gr of protein throughout the day for only 160 calories....... Makes it much easier for me to get in enough protein and fluid - though I'm struggling to get above about 400 calories/day (I'm almost 3 weeks out and still on liquids only - start pureed food on Sunday!!!!! ).
