  1. I wonder if it has to do with increased constipation. I was almost never constipated before I started the high protein pre-op diet. Now (10 weeks past surgery) I am ALWAYS constipated - no matter what I try! :(

    Yogurt brands

    Mix sugar-free pudding mix into plain yogurt. It gives it a cheesecake texture and you can control the amount of sweetness by adding small amounts. Smoosh up berries or other fruits and add to plain. My NUT told me foods had to have 10 grams of sugar or less, so I use Chobani Hint, they use a tiny amount of real sugar and fruit. It does have more sugar than something like Triple Zero, but I have remained in ketosis with it and it hasn't encouraged cravings. The artificially sweetened yogurt literally makes me want to vomit. I wonder if you could mix half plain and half artificially sweetened to create not-to-sweet, not-too-sour.

    Well, I haven't talked to my surgeon's office yet, so it's not official, but I saw my approved pre-auth on my insurance portal and it's dated for 1/17/19 so I think I have a date!   4. My surgery date was August 16. I weighed 265 lbs on surgery day, and as of this morning, I weigh 198 - so I've lost 67 lbs in 4 months. I went through a period where I ate whatever sounded good, and didn't count my protein - and then my hair started falling out. Reading the responses to this thread, it sounds like it's just something that happens around this time if it's going to happen, so maybe a coincidence? Either way, I'm tracking my protein again and making sure I get at least 80g per day. I try not to eat anything that doesn't follow the 10 calories/1 gram of protein rule. I'm not exercising at all, beyond walking around work and playing with my kids. I get between 800-1100 calories per day right now. I'm wearing smaller clothes (a pair of pants I bought at the beginning of October are now falling off me), but I don't really feel like I look any different. I feel more bones under my skin, and my tailbone gets sore more easily when I'm sitting, so I know I have less "padding", but I think it's happened so fast my image of myself in the mirror hasn't caught up.
  5. I don't have the answers to your questions/misapprehensions. I would think it depends on the degree of broken-ness of your metabolism, and so many other factors such as: 1. Sex 2. Age 3. Activity Level 4. RMR 5. Amount of LBM and whether you actively try to build muscle 6. How big was your surgery (if you have a malabsorptive element, how big is that) 7. What year are you post surgery 8. What you eat to make up those macros. A calorie is not a calorie. 9. How your hormones are 10. How much you sleep 11. How much stress you have 12. What kinds of medications you're on I could go on and on and on...but probably won't.
  6. Hi. New to this community. I’m just about 6 months out. Lost 55lbs. I’m only 4ft 10 inches, so real hard to loose. I’ve been at a stall this month, but no weight gain. Having gallbladder surgery tomorrow. Kind of bummed. Glad to have found this site.

    Help!!!! I’m hungry 😀

    My surgery was 12/10. I was hungry yesterday for the first time. My sister is 2 years post-op & has been super helpful. I had a slice of the Laughing Cow Babybel cheese and that did the trick. It's super soft and my surgeon approved it under my full liquid. For breakfast today I had cream of wheat but I made it with a vanilla Adkins Plus Protein shake instead of water/milk.   11. For this reason alone I bought a new Calendar Journal for 2019. I am only 5 weeks post op, but i know tracking is my downfall. I am not always on my phone to be using the app to log food. I work all day, and have ballroom dance classes right after work and get home late. I need to be more stringent on tracking now.. or i am going to be that girl in support groups not understanding why i am not losing, but yet not having a clue as to how much i am eating.

    How did your family and friends react?

    So wow, I told my Dad last week I was having the surgery - now he's just so awkward. But I'm hoping it's just him. He had called tonight (which btw, is very unusual since we've primarily communicated via email for the last 10 years). I think it was his way of being supportive. I asked how things were going...and he said "Well, me and your mother are both stuffed. She just made this amazing pot of gumbo." Then all I heard was gurgling. He was choking from embarrassment b/c he had somehow talked about FOOD and I guess he thinks that's now off limits...he got so flustered he accidentally hung up the phone. Ten seconds later he calls back and said he just wanted to call and wish me and my husband Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays..! So that was fun...LOL. Oy!!!!!! : \ And THIS is why I have told so few ppl. I probably can handle the conversations - it's the PPL AROUND ME that cannot!

    Take it easy. You’re allowed to go through the emotions and feel, you’re only human right. You’ve taken a major life altering step and this is just the beginning. There’s so much more great things in store for you. I was sleeved October 5, 2018. My starting weight was 277 surgery date was 247 and I’m currently 207. I’ve hit the dreaded 3 week stall. My emotions have been everywhere. I take it one day at a time. Also I won’t be returning back to work until January 7, 2019. My job can be stressful and I knew I’d need the extra time to take in all the changes. When life gets “cruddy”, think about how far you’ve already come. Hope you feel better..

    Storytime: So at the behest of my beautiful pacific coaster (you know who you are 😉 ) I'm taking applications again. I agree to a brunch date with this guy that 10yrs older than me. Not a big deal. He seemed nervous because I look how I'm supposed to (apparently Catfishing is real y'all) & down to earth and genuine but he talked about NOTHING but past failed relationships the ENTIRE DATE y'all. I had to redirect him constantly. I lost interest in conversations but never even noticed. I just ended up eating my Panera turkey chili. Towards the end I tried to turn it around to see if it could be salvaged because he wanted to see me again, but y'all- baggage. He seems nice but not my type of nice. I have no time to mend broke hearts and wounded souls, I have to be in Brazil in 2019. What do I do? Try a second date or respectfully decline if he asks again? I left it as tentative.

  18. Went in and they took some blood, I got changed, the nurse asked a billion questions. They had me pee in a cup. Talked to the dr, anesthesiologist, etc. They hooked up my IV. Couldn't find a good hand vein and had to go the bend of my arm (which sucked because the next 3 days in the hospital, any time I bent my arm, the IV machine beeped at me. Nurse finally told me what button to push to shut the dang thing up!) Wheeled me in, told me they were giving me some sleepy time meds, I said this stuff works fast! Then I woke up in the recovery room. I got a catheter, but I slept the whole dang time anyway. I got out of surgery at about 2-230, and didn't get a room until 10! They told me that if I was in recovery more than an hour, they would get me up and moving around... they didn't I literally slept the whole day (pain meds do that to me). I don't remember them taking the cath out, but I know it happened. I had some gas pains on the second day. I was nauseated. Threw up when they gave me liquid pain meds, and that made me pee myself. So that was fun. Other then that everything was good!

Like🐭🐺(mousecat) I too had to be there at 5Am for a 7AM surgery time, first thing on my Dr Needleman's surgery schedule at Ohio State University Hospital- Wexner Medical Center, sound like a big name- You ought see how area it really takes up. But they made me feel like I was the most important, indeed like I was the only patient. Signed in at front door, had my own person to deliver me to the designated pre-surgery area, once there I changed out of my clothes and in to their patient gown. And then I tinkled, see we had a pact going, if I would void as much fluid out as possible, I would not have to be "cathed", worth it to me. Got comity in my bed, and then, since I was Surgery #1 Dr Needleman brought in the bulk of. the surgical team. That was so very nice of him, in the back of my mind was the niggling worry since this was a teaching hospital I might be someone's practice dummy. He promised it would be him and him alone doing what needed done. Promised when they bring you in I'll wave. Didn't have to do that for me, but it was so cool he wanted to allay my fears. And my anesthesiologist was named David, said I could him Dave if I liked. Stayed until I was relaxed, Dave might have slipped so Happy Juice in while we were talking, but it was okay. And in deference to my age there would be a pulmonologist and cardiologist also there, you see I was and maybe the only 72 year old patient he would have. His bio said he had done 70s before, one of the reasons I chose him. He is also the chief of Bariatric Medicine and Metabolic Weight Loss, a full Professor in the College of Medicine, trained many bariatric surgeons in the Midwest. I had said to myself" Frustr8 You are going to have this chance, your one chance, you deserve it, grant yourself THE VERY BEST possible. Like my buddy above I also have had multiple surgeries, but OSU was the first place to have non-swerving, non-wobble gurneys. Now others have said the Operating Theatre was cold, mine wasn't, that they are going to strap you down , strip you, place your arms in a crucifixion postion, nope none of those things happened. They offered to help me slide over onto the Operating table, nope this old girl can still do a few things herself. And this was the first one I ever encountered that I didn't feel I would immediately roll off the other side. And although they were super efficient, it was still quite relaxed. There was Dr Needleman over to my left,waving vigorously, yeah he really WAS THERE! And over on the other side sitting on stools was my cardio and pulmo guys, and they saluted. Then Dave tu led blankets that were warm around me, said Are you comfty, and called me by name. I said" Yes I believe I am" and that quickly I was asleep. The very next thing I knew I was in my room on 10 Doan, stretched like I was waking up from a summer,nap, except I had oxygen on and EKG leads on, but I felt good, no nausea, no tenderness, being a little of a Doubting Thomasina, I flipped my gown up to make certain they had done surgery. Figured if they had I would be heavily bandaged, nope no ABD, just 6 little criss-cross steri- strips and one in the top of my navel. Now I knew why they told me to scrub my navel well, he likes to use them. Since I had a scar on the bottom from my tubal ligation some 30 years ago, he used the top, until the swelli,g went down a little I had a kissing navel. Never had pain, my tummy was as flat as when I went in so no residual gas to expell. And I was expecting to feel like too many sit-ups, can't say I had that either. I did get to stay until Friday, because of my advanced age(on paper- I am not that old physically, PO's my PCP greatly, think I didn't break down and fall apart yet. All his Gloom and Doom was for naught!) But mine was so good I would not fear another, but Praise God a RnY is One and Done. Yeah the thing I used most was 10 foot long charging cord I got at Staples, comb, brush, chap stick and Biotene. And I will also Welcome You to the Kangaroo Klub. Why Kangaroo, you might ask ? Because, honey, we all now have pouches.😝👼😝

    4 weeks Post Op and gain

    It is totally normal. I had my surgery on 11/8 and on 12/2 i gained 3 pounds. I figured it was because my time of month was due to show up since it last appeared on 11/7.. it never showed up (till today lol) but i was about til 12/10 that it went back down and i am losing since. I think it may also have to do with your body catching up to you, can be dependent on bowel movements and water retention if you had something with salt. Just keep doing what you are doing and you will see it come back off.

    October 2018 Sleevers

    I'm super jealous of you guys that are losing sizes. Sleeved 10/3, down 30 from surgery, 45 from pre-op. Still mostly in the same pant size - the legs are just baggy. Although it appears I *may* be getting into my larger 22s rather than a 24. I know I'll get there and I'm super happy with my #s, just not seeing it play out in my inches/clothing.

    Weight gain

    My 2 cents, Log your food - you cant fix what you don't measure. No snacks- log your food at the meal time and don't eat at non meal times Eat from the 3 walls of your grocery store and remember to pay at the 4th stay out of the middle of the store as much as possible limit your sugar intake to 10 grams or less per day limit your carbs to 75g if your maintaining your weight and under 50 if you want to lose weight. Never eat if your not hungry Dehydration can make you feel hungry so drink more then drink some more.
  23. I hear ya! You know, it's kinda like a Maslow's Heirarchy of needs for weightloss: 10. Lose weight to experience more complete self-actualization and to be able to give back to others more freely/energetically. 9. Lose weight to create a better interpersonal relationship with your SO (better sex, more fun being together, etc) 8. Lose weight to feel more confident in yourself and the interactions with other people. 7. Lose weight to feel good about yourself in your new clothes. 6. Lose weight to fit into smaller clothes/save money on clothes. 5. Lose weight to be able to fit into smaller areas that normal people fit into. 4. Lose weight to fit into society/your job easier. 3. Lose weight to be able to move better. 2. Lose weight to keep from adding to the list of obesity related diseases. 1. Lose weight to put existing obesity related disease into remission. The heirarchy starts at the bottom #1. And as you move up the ladder towards #10, you're experiencing more and more external rewards rather than the core benefits we're all looking for. You know? I would think a psych would be able to understand this? *scratches head*
  24. Ok, here's my manifesto to myself to get back on track with the losing rather than gaining the Christmas 10: I know in the early days pre-WLS, there wasn't much livin going on. I was isolating, felt bad (terrible), slept bad, and it was an all or nothing focus to eat as nutritionally dense and calorically light as I could. No cheating, no booze, no party of any kind. We just worked, ate, slept and watched a lot of tv. I wasn't even exercising at that point! I had very few clothes that fit, very few shoes, and didn't want to be around people cuz I felt like I was under scrutiny all the time--especially eating out in restaurants. And we never really got into fast food that much cuz of Mr. F's allergies--so there was no drive-thru to hide behind. But now we have many social invitations/obligations and business networking things and I have my new thrift shop wardrobe and I feel good in my skin/clothes. I feel like Mr. F. is proud to be seen with me and like I've turned the clock back about 20 years. And I'm happy and am feeling SO much better physically and sleeping quite a bit better too. And so I don't want to just sit home and watch tv and isolate--especially towards the weekend! I can do S-W, but Th-Fri-Sat, I start to get itchy feet! And I know it's not so practical at Christmas to change this up again and revert to the old isolation-straight-and-narrow gig, but I CAN go back to the menus that made me lose. And start eating some of them again! At least from S-W and maybe even Thursday! I CAN negotiate new rules of engagement for being out and about on Fri-Sat. Rules that don't ruin the rest of the week but still allow me to socialize and be with Mr. F. without totally going off the rails. My goal to get back on track is to shake things up again so that things are fun and interesting again in the diet/weight loss/scale game! I'm still gonna do some IF, maybe even ADF with calorie restriction, but mainly go back to the menus that worked. I will also try to get back down to my ticker weight by Christmas. I think that's do-able. I will take the big holidays "off" but not in between. I'm gonna go post this as my reminder over on the challenge thread too. LOL.

Challenge Starting weight: 148 Current weight lost: 186 Losing or maintaining weight: maintaining Fitness/exercise goal: 3 times a week to start: 15 min at a time Total weight loss at the end of challenge: (Post January 1st 2019) no more than 3 pounds Exercise has been my biggest challenge, due to pain issues...I want to start there..... Looking to maintain/not drop below 145 pounds as well. Thanks for the challenge.
