    Annoyed and frustrated

They're just being parents, it's what they do....I would, in a non-rant moment, say something like 'I know you guys are worried, and I appreciate that, but I'm an adult and I've made my decision. I am nervous and scared and would appreciate you supporting me in this'. If that doesn't work then I'd use the 'if you don't have anything once to say then don't say anything at all' line Likely....they mean well....they're probably just scared . GOOD LUCK!!!! HW 312, pre-op (lap-band) 294, pre-op (RNY) 255, surgery date 2/11/13, goal weight 154, current weight 221.6

    Skinny Models Banned in Spain!

MADRID, Spain - Spain’s top fashion show has turned away a slew of models on grounds they are too skinny — an unprecedented swipe at body images blamed for encouraging eating disorders among young people. Organizers of the pageant, known as the Pasarela Cibeles, used a mathematical formula to calculate the models’ body mass index — a measure of their weight in relation to their height — and 30 percent of the women flunked, said the Association of Fashion Designers of Spain. The association said Friday it wanted models at the show running from Sept. 18-22 to project “an image of beauty and health” and shun a gaunt, emaciated look. The decision was made as part of a voluntary agreement with the Madrid regional government, said Jesus del Pozo, a designer who is part of the association, said Thursday. Last year’s show, also called Madrid Fashion Week, drew protests from medical associations and women’s advocacy groups because some of the models were positively bone-thin. 'Mirrors for many young women' This time the Madrid regional government decided to intervene and pressure organizers to hire fuller-figured women as role models for young girls obsessed with being thin and prone to starving themselves into sickness, said Concha Guerra, deputy finance minister of the regional administration. Fashion shows, Guerra said, “are mirrors for many young women.” Del Pozo said this was the first time skinny models have been snubbed at a major international fashion show. Ryan Brown, director of marketing and public relations in North America for the Elite modeling agency in New York City, agreed. “It is very unprecedented,” said Brown, who has nothing to do with the Spanish show. He welcomed the decision, saying “I think it is great to promote health.” Madrid’s show, which features mainly Spanish designers, is not as prestigious as catwalks in Paris or Milan but “it is not at the bottom of the pile,” he said. Hoping to change the industry The impact of rejecting skinny women would have been greater at those other glitzier venues. Still, he said, “I am sure the industry is taking note.” The body mass index is a tool for doctors who study obesity. It is calculated by dividing weight in pounds by height in inches squared, and multiplying that total by 703. If the resulting number is between 18.5 and 24.9, the person’s weight is normal. Below 18.5 they are underweight. In the case of the Madrid show, organizers rejected women with indices under 18. Brown of the Elite agency said fashion shows reflect the tastes of clothing designers, who for now prefer the Kate Moss look as opposed to the curvier dimensions of models such as Cindy Crawford in years past. “They don’t want voluptuous girls any more,” he said. “It would be nice if fashion got back to that.”

    Dizzy

Lilee84, How many carbs did the doc want you to have, and what was your actual intake? I stay in a constant state of ketosis, but I am not dizzy. I typically have around 40 to 50 grams of carbs per day. My instructions from the surgeon were to have under 100, but I lose weight better keeping the intake down. To the original poster, are you on any blood pressure medications? If so, they may now be too strong for you. I've had to cut back on mine.

    September Post Ops

Your weight should start going down after a few days of leaving the hospital. Your body still has a lot of swelling and fluids from the iv. Keep sipping your Water. I did great the first week and lost 11 lbs. second week has been a lot tougher and I've only lost 2lbs because I'm having a hard time getting all of my fluids. Just keep sipping!

    Post Op Port question...

The only way I even know my port is there is if I push pretty hard on the incision. I surely have never been able to see my port sticking out. My doctor did mention too that after a big weight loss that sometimes the port does have to be revised. Hope this helps.

    Sit-Ups/crunches

I can also always feel my port. The more weight I lose, the more prominent it is under my skin. Sit ups were painful for me up until 5 months post op. i think I'm weird. LOL. My doctor has given me the "ok" now but I proceed with caution. She said occasional port soreness is normal, especially after ab work outs so you may need to ice the area afterwards. Take it very slow and if it starts to hurt, stop and listen to your body.

    Before Consult Weight

Hello. So I have made the decision that I want LapBand. I have been to the information session, recieved referrals from my doctors and I am currently waiting for my June consult appt. I am questioning..my current weight -- should i just maintain my weight or continue to try to lose weight, im thinking i def should not gain any more weight. Any thoughts or ideas you have to offer would be great. What did you do when you were waiting for your consult?
  15. Okay, so maybe I'm jumping the gun here, but I was sleeved one week ago tomorrow. Apart from losing the four pounds I gained in the hospital, I have lost......wait for it........1POUND! Am I doing this wrong? I'm working hard on my protein and staying hydrated. I'm walking 15 to 20 minutes a day. Help! I lost 50 pre op. but only one pound post.

    Midband???

I have the midband. It takes a contrast/saline solution for fills. The self filling issue was resolved by adding the contrast to the saline. I was given a 6cc fill at surgery and to date have not needed another one. I have been at my sweet spot to the tune of 92 lbs lost. I am beginning to consider a slight increase as I seem to have be stalling here at this weight. I've only lost 3 lbs in the last 4 months. I seem to lose and regain the same 3 to 4 lbs never dipping below the 92 mark. I chose to have a midband because of the statistics showing very low risk of slippage or erosion. As there is no real aftercare in my area for bands, I'll need to go back to Tijuana for care. Since I'll have to travel so far, I wanted the band that was at the least risk for complications. So far so good!

When can i start working out?

Jill pill 6 months no weights? I would double check that with them...that seems like a really long time.

    My story, so far

you lost the "easiest" weight on your own, and then some, before the surgery. if you hadn't done that, your initial post-op loss rate would be much higher. but you did everything right and still losing almost 20lbs/month. you're right on track. if you're struggling to stay under 900cal, i would suggest eating more solid proteins like meat. avoid soups as they clear quickly, leaving you hungry again soon after eating them.
  19. I need help and support, I seem to be back to gaining and really have been for a year now. I had a hard time year and few months ago and have way strayed off the program, I made it down to 255, yes, from 420 highest, BUT, back over the dreaded 300. Now, I just need ask for support, I am challenged by eating large meals, not huge as 4 years and 5 or 6 years ago, but enough to gain small each month. cheese has been a downer, it was great when I included bits into a meal but now used to having it and snack in between and have 2 or 3 times that small piece each time, seems I am stuck with this, good that it's not ice cream. Also Carbs, darn feels great but blocks all weight losses, totally throws me off balance for losses of any kind. Any kind or hard words will help now, so, say what it is I need to hear, please !!!
  20. Hello everyone. I was banded on 6/23/08 and my story is no different than most. I am 66 y.o. and had tried everything that was ever published to lose weight. I have been obese since age 13. My surgeon is Dr. Paul Ross of Spartanburg, SC and he is a true blessing for me:regular_smile:a kinder and more caring person could not be found! I am doing well and have been surprised by the comfort zone I am in. I need to find a way and the time to exercise (walk) more. I have osteo and rheumatoid arthritis and can only walk for 10-15 minutes at a time. I wonder if my weigh loss is comparable to others at this point in my "journey". I have lost 12 pounds in 5 weeks. Please advise. I'm appreciative to this sight and the opportunity to meet new friends. Thank you. Pat

    South Beach Diet Tips

SouthBeach Diet Tips and Guides The SouthBeach Diet is different from the Atkins diet in that it is not a low carbohydrate diet. Regardless of which phase you are currently in, you should follow these recommendations: Drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water, decaffeinated beverages such as club soda, tea, coffee, or decaffeinated sugar-free soda every day Limit your intake of caffeine-containing beverages to 1 cup each day Take one multivitamin and mineral supplement daily Take 500 mg of calcium for both men and women under the age of 50, and 1,000 mg for women over the age of 50, each day Eating can be both pleasurable and healthy as long as you eat the proper foods. All the meals in the SouthBeach Diet consist of healthy combinations of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Dishes can be made by anyone and the ingredients can be found in most grocery stores. These foods will satisfy your hunger without depriving your system of the low-quality starches and sugars that caused problems with your blood chemistry in the first place. The SouthBeach Diet does not involve counting calories, fat grams, or portion sizes. This plan was designed to be simplistic and will help you understand the principles of metabolism and put it to work for your own body. A major key to success with the South Beach Diet is the Glycemic index (GI), which ranks carbohydrate foods based on the effect on blood sugar levels. When you start adding foods back into your diet in Phase 2, keep your focus on low-GI foods such as apples, berries, grapefruit, high-fiber cereal, and whole grain breads. Preparing For The Rest Of Your Life Mindset Change for South Beach Diet You have learned what the South Beach Diet is, how it works, and what to eat. Now, you need to get prepared to change the way you eat, for life. Start by accepting that the first couple of weeks will be a big change but one you will not regret. The first morning of this diet, you will eat a breakfast that may consist of a two-egg omelet with two slices of Canadian bacon, cooked in either spray canola or olive oil. In your old life, you may have toasted bread or a bagel and had fresh fruit or fruit juice to go along with your omelet. However, with the South Beach Diet, the bread will have to wait. Most people have been conditioned their entire life to add bread to meals. You have toast with breakfast, sandwiches on bread for lunch, dinner rolls with dinner, and cake, cookies, or pie for dessert. However, during Phase 1, you will have to forget about the bread. It may take a few days to leave old habits behind but keep in mind that it is during this time that your body’s inability to process sugars and starches is being reversed. After trying numerous diets, most leave you feeling hungry, is one of the most difficult aspects of any diet. A common denominator seen with overweight people is that most of them skip eating breakfast. When this happens, blood sugar drops, which then increases the desire for bad carbohydrates to escalate until lunch when the entire meal is blown. Planning for South Beach Diet Planning will help you stay away from snacking or substituting things that are not healthy and could cause weight gain. Remember that once you start into Phase 2, carbohydrates will start being introduced back into your diet along with fruits. You also need to remember to eat your mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks, even if you do not feel like it. Some of the greatest low-fats foods to incorporate into your planning include cheese and yogurt to replace the fats since they have no bad carbohydrates. In addition, the sugar is found in the lactose, milk sugar, is one of the things you can have with the South Beach Diet. The South Beach Diet is a lifetime change, lifetime commitment, and a lifetime of health and vitality! How Does The South Beach Diet Work? As mentioned, the South Beach Diet is unique, successful, easy, and works in a three-phase process. Unlike many other so-called diets, with the South Beach Diet, simply substitutes your bad carbohydrates and fats for good ones. After trying this, you will be amazed by how well and quickly it works. South Beach Diet Phase 1 South Beach Diet Phase 1 lasts for two weeks. During this first phase, you will eat normal meals of chicken, beef, turkey, fish, and shellfish, lots of vegetables, eggs, cheese, nuts, and garden salads using 100% olive oil for your salad dressing. Each day for 14 days, you will eat three, well-balanced meals. While eating until your hunger is satisfied may go against most diets, with the South Beach Diet, it is part of the plan. Trying to lose weight and become healthy by depriving the body of food makes no sense. In addition to the three meals each day, you will also eat a snack between breakfast and lunch, and then again between lunch and dinner. Even if you do not feel like eating these snacks, for the South Beach Diet to work, you need to, and after dinner, you will even have dessert. Additionally, during this phase, you can drink all the coffee and tea you want and be sure to drink lots of water. You may be thinking that this is a lot of food - it is! With most diets, you deprive your body, eating only small portions of foods that are unappealing. The change you will make during this phase is that you will cut out all bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, baked goods, fruit, candy, cake, cookies, ice cream, or sugar. Keep in mind that these eliminated foods will be added back into your diet, starting in Phase 2. In addition to taking these foods out of your diet temporarily, you will also need to avoid beer, or any kind of alcohol. Once you start Phase 2, reasonable amounts of wine can be added back in. Instead of feeling overwhelmed about the foods that will be taken out of your diet during the first two weeks, stop and think about this for a minute. To achieve a life of health and lose unwanted weight, two weeks is a small investment to make. After all, you are worth it! The first two or three days will be somewhat challenging, but breaking any bad habit starts out a little bumpy. Once you pass this small hurdle, the rest of the time will go by quicker than you think. When you see the results that these changes bring, you will be glad you did not give up!

Do I have an eating disorder?

You can try using BetterHelp and stating in your intake form that you are specifically looking for someone that specializes in eating disorders. I tried to do that, but I didn't really have much luck because I have a history of other issues that they picked up on. You can always switch therapists with them. I just stuck with the person I was matched with because it worked well enough and it turns out I don't really have an eating disorder, I just eat too much too often and take medications that cause weight gain. Good luck!
  23. So, I haven't even had my initial consult yet with the surgeon (seminar is July 2 and they won't let me schedule the consult until after I attend the seminar), but I am wondering about the pre-op diet and nutritionist that is part of the pre-op process/insurance approval requirements. If you end up losing weight, do they then discourage you from the surgery? I'm just curious to see how it went for those who have lost weight as a result of the pre-op nutritionist advice/dietary restrictions? I'm just worried that somehow, I'll be given a "no" at some point. Thanks for any insight!
  24. wow, you went on vacation and lost weight! Awesome!
  25. Hi. Working on my "required" 6 months of weight managment with my regular MD. Had my sleep apnea testing, my heart tested (was put on baby aspirin for chest pain) have tried to lose weight (yeah right a whopping 5 pounds in 4 months) and had my appointment with the nutritionist (she tried to scared the crap out of me so I wouldn't go through with it). I have two more visits then my insurance "should" cover the lap band. I'm planning to have it done in July. I'm SCARED. :nervous I'm hoping this site will dissolve my fears and give me the confidence to get my life back. Up until age 31 I was a normal weight. (125 to 138) The thyroid then threw me a curve ball. I'm still not convinced a lap band will help with a thyroid problem. Any of you out there have success? I'm currently at 255 and want to get back down to 140. I have a cute little sun dress in a size 12 as my goal. Will be having surgery in Victoria, Texas.
