    Food Before and After Photos

Made a salad for dinner as I’ve been craving veggies and carbs the last week. Roasted bok choy and parsnip with bulgogi seasoning and avocado oil with pan fried veg’n chicken, romaine, hard boiled egg, and Italian dressing. calories was for the whole thing that I clearly didn’t eat.

Covid Post Op and Weight Loss Stalled

I’m 16 months post revision for GERD and 2years out from VSG. First symptoms 9 days ago, tested positive on the 20th. Even while moving less and eating more calories I’ve managed to somehow lose weight. Symptoms include- extreme fatigue, sinus congestion, migraine, dry cough, diarrhea, and some body aches. Edited to add- you’re right on track for a stall as well being almost 6months out. That might be part of it along with the inflammation that Covid causes.
  3. Got infected Dec 10, recovered pretty well; didn't get terribly sick, mostly just fatigue and muscle aches plus a fever for a few days. However, my GI tract has been all kinds of messed up. Lost - at least - 3 lbs in less than two weeks, and probably 5 (not at home with my scale right now). Food just backs up, I have diarrhea, I barfed last night - a full 30 minutes after eating and with no food even remotely digested. It's ... not great. I don't want to lose more. It's not that I can't eat anything, and I can probably sneak enough calories in to keep my weight up, but how annoying is this. I'm literally having to resort to bread with butter (which also doesn't sit well, never has) in order to get high-calorie, easy-ish to absorb, food in. Anyone else had this COVID symptom? I developed a full-body rash, too. Itchy af.
  4. Just had VSG surgery on Dec 17th. So far down 13.5 lbs in 1 week . Can’t wait to see the results of my journey! Good luck to everyone on here. I’m impressed with my progress and recovery so far. I had minimal pain/discomfort and practically no gas after surgery. #blessed

    Falling off

I really need some advice for the last three months I’ve really fell off the wagon how do I get that mindset back I’m only 8 months post op 90 pounds down I’m not sure if I should go with a meal plan or what please no judgment
  6. Did you meet with a nutritionist before your surgery? For me, I could not even finish a scrambled egg 4 weeks post surgery. I concentrated on trying to get my protein in. I made smoothies with Big Train protein frappe mix( it tasted like a Frappuccino). It was hard for me to consume chicken, so I ate a few bites of tuna salad or cottage cheese.
  7. How much food should I be eating four weeks post surgery gastric sleeve

    Bread

I choose to limit my intake of bread, pasta and rice, but my post op plan included toasted bread from week 4. I tried it and didn’t have any problems with it.
  9. This is really helpful. I've had dreadful upper backache for the last couple of weeks and I never thought of muscle imbalance but of course there's less of me now so that makes sense. Also definitely investing in some new bras. Thanks all!
  10. Hi there - First post ever! I had surgery on the 15th of December, released from the hospital on December 16th. Feel pretty good - but having a lot of trouble with the protein requirement which is making me very tired and weak. I hate the shakes and got permission from my surgeon to drink the protein water instead. Now I'm beginning to develop an aversion to that. I go back to the doctor on the 27th. I'm hoping - hoping! - he'll release me then to start eating soft foods. I'm still on liquids only. How quickly were you able to eat soft foods? I see a lot of people eating eggs and yogurt far more quickly than the 2 weeks I've been told. Also, how soon do you start to feel...."normal" again? I just feel so weak and fuzzy.
  11. I had my RNY three days ago and everything went well. I’m still really sore, but the pain is manageable with pain meds. Still belching gas from surgery out, and hoping that will stop soon. I’ve been content just drinking water. I don’t feel any hunger at all, and that’s been a relief since I was starving during the 2 week Preop liquid diet. I would like to know when the pain subsides. Everyone keeps saying it gets a little better each day, but when is it gone?

    Chewing makes food dry

That's a reasonable illustration of drinking with meals and why we should not drink during meals. But, to ensure folks understand what they are seeing... The video food is something that looks like applesauce or something with a consistency of applesauce. When one adds fluid to applesauce one is adding fluid to a food that already has plenty of fluid, causing the week sauce to flow through the funnel. Imagine the same exercise with a ball of bread dough (aka, a dry lump of lumpiness). Ouch. Good luck, Tek
  13. I had a month-long stall around that time, but as said above, your body may simply want to be at the point it wants to be at. You can either fight that or enjoy the great success you've had. Not all of us are meant to be BMI23 and that's okay! I'd approach this with a curious attitude. Try upping your calories, adding protein, try a new form of exercise; do something new in general. See how your body responds. If it stays at this weight, well, then that's your new weight. And that's okay.
  14. Hi there! I totally get it, as I just got my surgery date earlier this week. I had so many requirements from the insurance company so the process has taken me 5 months. I wavered while making the decision, but while I am convinced it's the right one, it suddenly feels real. My biggest fear is not being able to maintain the lifestyle changes needed to get and stay healthy, but this just has to happen. Nothing else has worked, and the weight keeps piling on. So while I can't speak to the pain aspect, I can tell you that I am scared, too. We'll get through it though, and I'm willing to bet it will all be worth it.

    Outshine Popsicles

I’ve been been having these popsicles. I only have them maybe once or twice a week.
  16. It could be that you have reached your low weight point. You could be in a prolonged stall which is more noticeable because you are getting close to goal & your rate of loss has slowed. You may need to up your activity or tweak your food choices a bit. What does your dietician or surgeon say or suggest? Unfortunately, the truth is not everyone reaches their goal weigh. Some lose more, some less. Some regain, some maintain. Remember, the average weight loss at the 5yr point is about 65% of the weight you had to lose. I reached my goal at 6 months but continued to lose for another 10/11 months. I struggled to eat enough to stop the loss. The rate slowed a lot over that period down to about a pound or less over two weeks or more. I’m what is termed a statistical outlier & have beaten the odds so far but I have no idea what the future will bring. Congratulations on the weight you have lost. Whoo hoo!
  17. I'm close to 4 weeks out and I was told by my nutritionist no more that 800 calories. I barely make that sometimes. I can't imagine 1100 calories right now. I be sick. Nannette

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

I'm noticing the same thing. Food that I once loved the smell of it just makes me want to hurl. I tried a sip of coffee the other day, I'm talking like 1/4 of teaspoon and thought I was going to die. My taste buds are so off. I remember getting into my room from recovery and had a couple of blister's and canker like sores in my mouth. I'm almost 4 weeks (11/29) and most are gone but I have one that is sticking around and think I better go to dentist. Annoying. Nannette

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

I guess I am still on the 3 week stall that everyone talks about lol I haven't lost much on my full fluid phase and I have 5 more days on it. Have lost about 2 pounds only last 16 days.
  20. Being heavy really destroyed my knees and hips. Now they are getting closer and closer to being normal. I have now lost 158 lb and It took 480 days. That number 158 lb happens to be how much my lady friend weighs. So, 480 days ago my life was as if I carried her on my back day-in and day-out, 24 hours a day and seven days a week for all of the preceding years. That is very sobering!

Struggling with eating and water intake

Hi Angelica, I had my sleeve on 12/7 too. I had same issues you had when I started full liquids so I backed off and stayed mostly with clears and added protein shots (which are only 3oz and 25g protein) because I just couldn’t do 2 full protein shakes. This week I’ve been feeling good and finally getting over 64oz of fluid each day! Christmas Day I can start puréed foods and I’m wondering if I will have trouble in the beginning like when I started the full liquid stage. How are you doing this week?
  22. Fly out to Vegas on the January 7th. Surgery is on the 11th. Anyone else going to Las Vegas for their surgery that week? I'll be the fat guy. You can't miss me. ;-)
  23. I encourage recording your body measurements. When I hit stalls and started to question my weight loss, recording body measurements reinforced me.
  24. Hello everyone!!!! It has officially been 1 month since I I went gastric bypass. I am currently down 32lbs. On my surgery date 11/23/2021 I was 276lbs. Today I am 244.6 lbs. This month is been CRAZY. Especially the last week or so. I’ve been extremely week, but speaking with my RN and dietician we determined I’m not getting enough calories and I am in ketosis. I will be speaking with my surgeon today as well just to see if there is anything else that he would add. Besides the lack of energy, I feel pretty good. I had an issue with acid reflux, but a little Prilosec and zofran cleared that right up. I also have been put on monthly B12 injections. Just giving a one month update. 💛💛💛💛
