    October Surgery Date

You two have such a thing going I dont want to disrupt it. I too am having surgery in October. The second for me. Just like amylynns I have had lap band surgery. She was more successful than I. I lost about 25 lbs, put all that back on plus 20. Sad I know. I still have the band and will revise straight to the RNY. I have 3 littles, my oldest being 8 and my youngest 15 months. My husband will be around for 2 days after my surgery but someone has to make the bacon while I'm down for the count. I should do fine with my youngest two, my 4 year old will be in preschool in the mornings so I only have to deal with them both for 4 hours each weekday as my husband gets home from work at 3 pm. I can't wait to be done with this journey and see onederland again. Good luck ladies!

    October Surgery Date

They had to change my pain mess because the stuff I was on was not helping. Plus they are giving me a muscle relaxant at midnight. Man that revision sure hurt, I'm sure the increased amount of pain I have is due to the removal then revision. Now on to pass gas, I've been doing good with my liquids and no nausea since they got rid so my pcc (self dosed pain meds) I'm hoping all works out for you Beni.

    Diet Cheating!

Here's the biggest key; you titled this thread "diet cheating". I'm not dieting. A diet is temporary. I'm in this for the life style change. I want to learn to properly manage my eating and portion control. I didn't go through months of preop testing and surgery for nothing. I want it to be the start of a new leaf on life. I'd be more concerned that it appear that except for the Peanut Butter you are eating junk food. You want mashed potatoes? Boil your own. You then control the sodium and other artificial ingredients in it. You have an opportunity to make it healthy. I have no idea what canned meats are, but you probably could eat that if it's cooked soft enough and you're taking your time to chew it slowly. My advice would be to talk to your nutritionist about your cravings and come up with a plan to address those cravings safely. It is possible to out grow your sleeve. I was in a support group with a woman who did and she was trying to convince the insurance co to do a revision to a bypass. I don't think you want to do that.

    Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)

Going for a consult in August 26 for lap band to sleeve revision. I’m very nervous about the pain.
  5. Man that stinks. I would be interested to see what a study of easy breezy vs post -op from hell. It can't be age, because I'm no spring chicken. I really don't understand your doctor not wanting to prescribe a PPI. Mine put me on one prophylactically. Hopefully the new doctor can resolve you issue. There's another poster here who has worse acid than yours. She is considering a revision to RNY.

    Scar Stages Share yours!

I'm over two years post op, and unfortunately I have the luck of not scarring very good. Mine have turned into keloids/hypertrophic? I'm not sure I'm even using the right words...from what I've read aftrican americans are more prone to this...(i'm white). I asked the fill nurse if she thought a scar revision would help, but she said if I'm prone to this, it could easily just happen again...so it seems I'm stuck with a puffy red scar forever. Blech!

    Band to sleeve - reflux

I started my life or reflux when my 4 yr old band slipped. Dr told me when it came out, my reflux would end. Had I known the sleeve itseld causes a much higher incident of relux, I woulda just had the byoass to begim with. Now 4 yrs after my sleeve revision, Im back to seeing the bariatric surgeon on Oct 17th for revision to RNY. That will be 3 wls's. Almost embarrased to say that. Having the RNY at 160lbs - about 20-30 lbs from goal. Sounds crazy. But I cant wait to sleep thru the nite without choking and coughing up stomach acid and feeling my chest on fire. I sleep in an adjustable bed, am on the reflux diet, and take the tp doses of the strongest meds. My GI told me the next stage is surgery. Went to the general surgeon 2 weeks ago tot talk about surgery. 2 choices. Nissen Fundoplication or revision to RNY (which usually CURES reflux). Fter my upper gi last Fri, it was determined I dont have enuf stomach left to do th Fundoplcation. They wrap ur stomach around ur esophagus. So the choice was made for me.... Had I known then what I know now..... Good luck!
  9. Hi I too was in this same situation after having gastric sleeve last year. Mine was due to a stricture in the middle of the stomach pouch. This was found by doing an endoscopy. I was on picc lines and feeding tubes for dehydration and severe malnutrition. My doctor decided the only option was to revise to the full bypass. (This was after he attempted dilation and placing a stent). Having a revision was not ideal but at 4 months out from revision i am glad i did. No more vomiting i have regained my strength and best part no more tubes coming out of my body. Message me if you want to talk more.

    Democrats vs republicans

Washington (CNN) -- President Obama blasted Senate Republicans on Monday for blocking a small-business assistance bill, calling their opposition "pure partisan politics." The country needs a "full-scale attack" on economic sluggishness, he said at the White House. "While we have taken a series of measures and come a long way ... too many Americans are still looking for work, and too many communities are far from being whole again," he said. The president also said his economic team is "hard at work" on a series of new measure designed both to spark short-term hiring and lay the foundation for long-term economic growth. Among other things, Obama said the administration will continue to push for an extension of middle class tax cuts, new incentives for clean energy research and development, and initiatives to help rebuild infrastructure. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, released a statement immediately after Obama's remarks criticizing the president and Democratic congressional leaders for dramatically increasing the size of the national debt while doing little to restore stronger economic growth. "Instead of growing jobs as promised, Washington Democrats have grown the size of the national debt, the federal government and the unemployment rate," McConnell said. "It's no surprise that most Americans think the country is on the wrong track and that Democrat policies have failed to do anything to fix their top concern, the economy." Growing economic jitters amid new signs of a slow recovery remain a top political issue in the runup to November's midterm elections. The U.S. economy sputtered to a near stop in the second quarter, according to estimates from the government released Friday, although the slowdown wasn't as bad as many had feared. The nation's gross domestic product, the broadest measure of economic activity, was revised sharply lower to an annual growth rate of 1.6 percent in the three months ending in June. The initial reading had been for a 2.4 percent growth rate in the period. The bill currently stuck in the Senate authorizes the creation of a $30 billion lending fund. The Treasury Department would run the program, which would deliver cheap capital to community banks, defined as those with less than $10 billion in total assets. The idea is that community banks are the ones that do the bulk of lending to small businesses and so by pumping capital into them, it will get in the hands of Main Street businesses. Other key components of the bill would provide $12 billion worth of tax relief for small businesses between 2010 and 2020, according to an estimate from the Joint Committee on Taxation. The bill also increases Small Business Administration loan limits and extends loan sweeteners through the end of the year. It offers several tax cuts for small businesses, to both encourage investment and entrepreneurship. The legislation also provides $1.5 billion in grants to state lending programs that can't rely on depleted state coffers for more cash. This bill is paid for and doesn't add to the deficit. The republicans are always yapping about small business but when they have a chance to vote for this bill they don't. More evidence that they just want the economy to get worse to improve their chances in November. How very sad that some will be duped to voting for these people. And to Mitch - I have this to say: This is the best you've got? Pres. Obama slams you for holding up this bill even for a vote and all you can do is say the democrats have increased the deficit? Hey, Mitch, why don't you tell us how much the deficit will increase with that unnecessary tax cut for the rich you support? Huh? What's that I hear? The silence is deafening.

    August 2013 surgeries

My revision is set for August 21st!! After 5 unsuccessful years with the lap band I am switching to the gastric! I cannot wait to start this new chapter!
  12. I had a lapband and like you only lost about 30 pounds. I was revised to the sleeve last year in May, and I'm already under my original goal.

Out With the Old--In With the New!

I so envy you all the food choices that we don’t have here. BUT - I am coming to the USA in September, Baltimore. So, once I know the hotel I will be sleeping in, I think I can place some orders and have them delivered to me there to bring home! I have been thinking about your calories post, a lot. I am still losing a kilo a week, I am below my best gastric band weight - which was my goal but I have revised the goal downward to the top of the BMI ‘not overweight’ range. I know I should, by surgeon’s predictions, be losing at half this rate by now. But I find myself loathe to let my calories go over 700. I have been considering that it might well be very easy for me to simply replace one eating disorder (overeating to deal with any emotion whatsoever) with another (caloric limitation and obsession)... So - thanks for raising this thinking for me, too. Will my relationship with food ever be normal?
  14. Day 3 is in the bag! Boom! Done, baby! It was hands down, the hardest day so far. I think maybe it's because I expected it to be the toughest day--since that's what I so often read? But it's done. And I've made progress. Thanks to my fairwell tour of BBQ, I was up 4-5lbs on Sunday morning--so I started the liquid diet 1 day early, to see if I could mitigate damages. Yeah--it was TOTS worth it. This morning I'm down to 228.2lbs (-5.8lb loss). Yay for me! Thah crahps ah sayuved!!! I heard back from my RD. She will allow me to add up to 28g (1oz) of condensed cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup to 1 of my daily meals, as long as all the other meals/snacks fall strictly into my guidelines. That's good and bad. It's good cuz I now have a tiny bit more variety. It's bad because it means that psychologically, I'm still saving my "best meal of the day" for dinner, rather than eating it earlier in the day. Often "best meals" contain more calories/carbs/fat, "fill in the blank" and often, they are bigger and heavier. And it gets eaten around 7:30pm...so, just sayin', that may be a behavior I need to visit and revise post surgery. I found an intriguing recipe for Banana Joe Smoothies yesterday on another site. As I "understand it" Banana Joe refers to mixing banana protein with coffee. They made a smoothie, but last night I was too hangry to care, so I just made it into a super quicky iced coffee. I'll post the recipes below: Creamy Beef and Mushroom Protein Broth (Pre-surgery Approved by My RD) Makes 1-2 servings 29g Isopure Unflavored Protein Powder 2fl oz Fairlife Milk, fat free 28g Campbell's Healthy Request Cream of Mushroom Soup 8fl oz Beef Stock, unsalted (Kitchen Basics) 1 pckt Herb Ox Beef Bullion, sodium free 8fl oz water 1/8 tsp granulated garlic 1 pinch dried parsley pepper/No Salt to taste Mix unflavored protein powder with milk and condensed soup until it makes a paste. Nuke the beef stock, water, and spices until burning hot. Slowly pour protein mixture into the hot soup, stirring constantly. Make sure everything is dissolved and well combined. Enjoy as 1-2 meal replacements. Nutritionals: 211 cals; 39g protein; 2g fat; 10g carbs; 0g fiber; 10g net carbs; 3g sugar Banana Joe Iced Coffee Makes 1 serving (HEEEEEUUUUUGGGGEEEEE) 11fl oz Premier Protein, Bananas and Cream flavored RTD shake 12fl oz brewed decaff coffee 6g whole psyllium husks (optional) 4-7 drops liquid vanilla stevia (Vitacost) ice (and lots of it) Mix it all together. Make sure there's a crap ton of ice. Add a straw and enjoy. This should occupy you for a LONG while! Nutritionals: 160 calories; 30g protein; 3g fat; 5g carbs; 2g fiber; 3g net carbs; 1g sugar (counts do not include the psyllium fiber since I omitted it last night) Here's MFP food log for Day 3. What I'm finding is this early out, I'm just not feeling deprivation. I feel like I have "enough" variety and a wide enough array of sweet to savory that my palette isn't getting jaded by a bombardment of sweet. I will tell you, it's odd how satisfying a cup of broth with a bit of granulated garlic is feeling. Between meals, it really keeps me satisfied--as did the sf cherry popsicle yesterday afternoon. It's the little pleasures. Right?
  15. Omg! Just got call yesterday that insurance finally approved lap band to sleeve revision! I'm scheduled 12/15 which is less than 2 weeks. Starting my pre-op diet now & freaking out that I've got so much to do with Christmas coming & so little time.
  16. I am doing well, seem to be progressing nicely. My weight loss has been a little slower than some, but I've heard this is common with revisions. Since stating my 2-week preop edit on 5/9 I am down 23 pounds.

    Similar scars to sleeve surgery?

Thank you - I like it. I do not plan on telling my nosey coworkers WHY I am having surgery. Don't feel like dealing with the know it alls that feel the need to give their "just diet and work out" advise that works for them to get their extra 5-10# off. One of my other coworkers recently was sleeved and lost over 100# between the surgery and doing his part by being in the gym first thing every morning working out. "If he would have just gone to the gym every day, he wouldn't have needed the surgery." I told one of them the other day to go carry 100# of weights as they run on the treadmill and let me know how "easy" it is for them. They just don't get it and I don't care to involve them in any part of my journey. I already had my gall bladder removed and had a hiatal hernia repair at the time of my initial lapband procedure (now going for revision to the sleeve). I have reflux issues, so I just read that I can blame that on fibroid tumors that will have to be surgically removed when the peanut gallery sticks their nose in. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App I had fibroid issues in the past and had laporoscopic (sp?) surgery about 10 years ago. I am also using that excuse for myself at work. the scars are higher for the sleeve than the fibroid but I'm sure it'll be fine. I'm more concerned about the excuse of being sore... still haven't quite figured out how to explain the rapid weight loss but they do know I've been on the liquid diet do hopefully it won't look too suspicious Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

    Hate bypass

You will lose weight. I was surprised that I hit the 150s. I never got below 164.8 with the sleeve and fought just to stay under 175. My metabolism isnt the best and I have never exercised through this whole thing because of my back. I strictly lost all my weight following the plan . I did lose 22 lbs after my revision 5 months ago and am maintaining with no problems. Its just different. Good luck

    It's Kats turn!!!!

Steph, I am not sure if I'm happy with my tt nor not. I do still have some upper abdomenal fat. I know you said you have the same. My pannus is completely gone however. If I were to take my hands and pinch the fat on my abdomen I can gather probably 1 1/4 inch still. How much do you have? I am thinking about a lippo revision in 6 months. It will cost me $3k.

    Roll call!

Hi there - great to see this new forum has been started for us! I am into my 4th day post op and am doing well - no pain or discomfort at all, but it is sure making me think alot more about my food choices and getting Water in, esp in these early days. I am a revision and had the surgery over 9 months after having my band removed following a severe erosion. My surgeon did a brilliant job, it took 4 hours to get it all finished because there lots of tidying up to do, but he was determined to give me an excellent result, and that's what I have got. Roll on the next weeks so that I learn how to drive this thing! Cheers Marion:thumbup:

    Cincinnati Bandsters

Hi Ellisa, We do not offer gastric bypass. I would never let anyone in my family have a gastric bypass. No surgeon would ever have a bypass on themselves. Obese surgeons choose the band for themselves and there's a reason for that. There are better operations now. We do offer the ROSE procedure which is an effective non-surgical treatment for patients who regain weight after gastric bypass. We specialize in gastric band surgery and have done nearly 4,000 procedures in our clinics. Dr. Osborne and Dr. Mobley are the surgeons in the Cincinnati office (located in West Chester). They are on staff at Good Samaritan Hospital and Bethesda North Hospital. We do nearly all of our bands as an outpatient procedure - home the same day. We do these at University Point Surgical Hospital. We charge no professional fees for revisional operations if you need a port revision or a slip repair. We are the only practice that has this "guarantee". Dr. Mobley and his wife and many of their family members are banded. All of the receptionists and nurses in the Cincinnati office are banded. We have a call center and all of the weight management specialists are banded. My band practice in Seattle did over 2,500 band procedures. Now I spend a lot of time traveling to our other locations in DC & Chicago and we have other band surgeons around the country that want to join Synchrony Health which keeps us busy. If you travel you will be able to have band adjustments in DC & Chicago & Seattle and more to come. I am also a proctoring surgeon for both band companies. We fix a lot of complications on people that went out of the country for "cheap" surgery. They end up paying way more out of pocket than if they had just come to a high quality practice in the first place. I don't recommend this approach. We feel strongly about offering the best support after surgery possible. At the moment, we do not sign insurance contracts when the reimbursement is below what it costs to provide the service. We have seen several band clinics close down after trying to provide good care on such low reimbursement and we simply won't do that. When those band clinics close down we end up taking care of their patients (gladly). We see many patients that were banded somewhere else and are frustrated with the post-op support and they end up in our practice to be successful. We're not the cheapest. You don't want the cheapest. We're the best. We'll always be in business to help you succeed. Many practices advertise a cheap cash price and then you learn about the hidden fees after surgery. We don't do that. Our price includes everything. It makes us look more expensive than other practices but you pay less overall because it includes everything. We don't believe in trying to be sneaky with prices. We know what it cost to provide the best care and that is what we do. We are working on our website - stay tuned! Hope that helps. Brad

    April 2006 Bandits January Challenge

Betty, I think you're goal of being "just overweight" is amazing! You shouldn't be in awe of me -- I'm in awe of you! My ticker is currently set with a mini-goal of 218 because that's the weight where I'm no longer "morbidly obese." I don't think I'll mind being just "obese" -- I just can't wait to leave the "morbid" behind forever. Just a few lbs away now, for you and me both. I can't imagine being "just overweight." I think my final goal is above that! We'll see when I get there, I guess. Boo, a mini-abdominoplasty is where they just tighten the skin and muscles below your belly button. A full abdominoplasty (colloquially called a tummy tuck) is where they tighten the whole abdomen -- from the ribcage down. That involves moving (or sometimes recreating) the belly button and tightening both the upper and lower abdominal muscles and skin. I could definitely use the larger procedure, but my Dad thinks the mini will get me where I want to be in clothes without the risk of the larger surgery. Plus, since I'm still of "child bearing age" and can't say for certain that I won't have a pregnancy or two, he thinks the mini is more appropriate for my stage in life. I can have a revision done when I'm (1) at goal and (2) I have had children (or am certain that I won't be having them). Bluehill, if you don't mind sharing, how tall are you? How did you pick your goal of 145? I keep changing what I think my goal is and am interested in how you picked yours. My surgeon is no help. He just says "let's get you under 200 before we worry about that." True enough, but now that I'm closer, I'm curious....

    BMI 50 or higher

I was banded today! And I had a BMI of 55 when I started my consult a BMI of 53 when I started pre op and up until today I've lost about 20lbs (not sure what BMI that gives me no less than 51 though. I was banded this morning & my only complication was my nausea to the anesthesia. Not even 24hrs later I feel much better! And I think like everyone said you know yourself and what your true needs are. If you know you're commited to the lifestyle changes the band requires go for it! Its a lot easier to revise from the band than it is to go from the other WLSs to the band. Most doctors like many ppl look at ppl with higher BMIs as those who have extremely bad habits & lack of self control/comittment to make the band work so ofcourse they'll recommend faster somewhat easier options but you shouldn't let that opinion sway you. As long as ur healthy enough to go be approved for surgery get what you really want & are comfortable with!
  24. I'm having revision surgery on 12/29 and started pre-op diet on the 15th. I had my VSG surgery in Mexico in 2016 and wasn't nervous at all. After gaining over 100 pounds back (thank you Covid isolation and depression) I decided to explore the conversion which was the surgery originally advised for me but my insurance wouldn't pay for it. I'm really nervous this time and I'm having surgery close to home. Also feeling super emotional about it and trying not to keep internally beating myself up for feeling like I failed! I struggle with the protein drinks so I've been buying the high protein yogurts and I found a zero calorie gatorade with added protein that they did a good job hiding the whey aftertaste. It's not as high in protein as a shake but I figure If I'm getting it in that's what matters
  25. Good Luck, my revision to bypass is on Friday 12/23 ......I'm so excited. I have to do 3 protein shakes a day, I do 2 ready made and make my own shake for lunch in my Ninja blender. Add Better than Bullion to my broths for better taste and I like Sugar free chocolate Ice pops. Since I do not like water I'm adding Cold Enhancers to my 64oz jug which are pretty good and I drink Zero Cherry flavored Gatorade and Propel water......I'm 195 today and Goal weight is 145lbs.
