My band mommy looks HOT! I will post my pictures on Feb 9, which is my 6 month bandiversary. Yesterday was a huge NSV day. You all know that I have been struggling with body image issues, but I think I had a bit of a break through yesterday. We went to Wal-Mart last night and some of their clothes were marked down to 3.00$ and since that is cheaper than our thrift stores here I bought a few shirts. XL are starting to be a little to big so I thought I could go to a L. Well they didn't have larges in all of the colors/styles that I wanted so I decided I would get some mediums that I would shrink into. So I came home and tried them on and lo and behold some of the mediums actually fit. I will have to lose a few more pounds for all of them to fit, but I couldn't believe that I was standing in my living room wearing a size medium shirt. To be honest, even when I dreamed of what my smallest size would be when I lost the weight, I prayed that it would be a large. I don't ever forsee being in a small on the top because I really do have a wide rib cage. There is not much fat left on it and bones aren't supposed to shrink! But I can't even make a goal for the size pants that I will be in. All of this is unimaginable to me. For the first time last night I looked in the mirror and I didn't see myself as fat. It was earth shattering in a good way. Well I am sick as a dog. I think I caught what my BF had and it is terrible. I can't think and I am trying to plan for a sub and it just isn't working. Usually I strategically plan the days that I am absent so sub plans are easy, but when it happens that I am actually sick and need to be gone, sub plans are a nightmare.

Kartrina, I think it's a great idea. I'm not sure I can find a before pic of myself. I've been a camera-phobe for many years because I didn't like the way I look. Now I'm more comfortable. Taking a photo of myself and putting it on display will be a big NSV for me. I'm sure my hubby's jaw will hit the floor when I actually ASK him to take one so I can post it here.

    NSV's for the Merry Losers

I know this is a thread for NSV's but I just had to share with someone my great news. I began my weight loss journed the middle of February last year. I didn't begin pursuit of the lap band until the summer. I dieted on my own from February until the end of May. I joined an Optifast program at a local hospital on June 1 and ate nothing for 14 weeks, just drank their shakes. Then I spent 7 weeks reintroducing food, losing along the way. I finished that program in the middle of October and didn't have surgery until December 6 so I continued to diet on my own. Prior to surgery I had lost 68 pounds. Today when I stepped on the scale I had reached 100 pounds. I could scream it from the rooftops. I would never have believed it a year ago. I finally have less to lose than I have lost already. I am halfway there.

Manatee... I did the closet purge recently too. I got rid of everything that didn't fit. After I hung up all the clothes I own that do fit I had over 60 hangers leftover! I'm trying not to spend too much money on new clothes, (losts of clearance rack stuff) 'cause I don't want to get too attached...hopefully the current clothes will be too small someday soon!?! The really great part was I got to give a bunch to a friend. She recently went through breast cancer surgery & treatments. The meds she has to take for the next 5 years made her gain weight. She's a single mom & with medical bills and all, it was great to be able to help out a little. I guess that counts as a NSV. Sue

My watch keeps slipping all around my wrist and I think I need to have a link or two taken out of the band - more NSVs everyone!!
  10. Morning Vi's~ Terry~ First of all...PURPLE POWER for your mom. I remember those hospital days...hang tough. And when you get down about your weight...think of me! Forever 250:mad:. I too am unable to participate in your eat great day. MIL is on her way over...w/ her friends! She called Wed and asked what I wanted. She makes this (food porn) kickin' meatloaf w/ extremely lean beef and it tastes like salsberry steak. Not too bad...until you add the German noodles, gravy and potatoes...no wonder. I did have a MAJOR NSV yesterday, but was tooooo fat and pissed to write it yesterday. I went through closet (all my fat old clothes go to MIL's friends daughter) and got rid of 10 pairs of pants. I officially have 4 pair of jeans (2 blue and 2 black) and one of the black pair are already too big, just don't want to give 'em away yet. I actually tried on the pair I wore the night I met Susanne...and not only did they fit...they were slightly big!!!!! I tried on clothes that 9 months ago I couldn't get up my thighs...and they fit! So (pizza meltdown aside) I don't give a shit what the scale says...I am losing something! Maybe it is the exercise. I know it is not the pizza. I know I could use a little fill. But, I am not willing to live like I did, PB'ing all the time. I couldn't eat food...that is not good. I'd rather eat, and I can't deny that the portions are sooo much less. I think of Kat...who has been successful but can still eat food. Sorry, PB'ing is not for me. Well, off to get ready for the crew. I am having a small get together tomorrow...think I am gonna do Chickentisers and little foods like that. I don't wanna have left overs and don't wanna do too much work. I have so much to do cause I leave Tues @ 2pm for Disneyland Hotel! Have a great day/weekend everyone! I am so thankful to have such wonderful friends in my life! Judy~ Sadly I won't be able to go to Mass on Wednesday (I usally never miss Ash Wednesday)...but I am gonna start thinking about Lent. I may add a walk everyday to the routine instead of giving something up. Not sure yet! xoxoxoxoxoxo

Hey Katrina, Isn't "1" a beautiful number? Congratulations on making it to onederland. Life is different here--you'll see. I've only been here for a month or so, but the NSV's just keep piling on. I had to put my wedding ring away yesterday as it is so loose I was afraid I would loose it. When I get closer to my goal I will have it resized. That's one of 4 things I want to do this summer: 1. Resize the ring; 2. Get a new driver's license; 3. Get a TT (or at least get serious about it); 4. shoot, I can't remember #4! I'll have to let you know later when I remember. It's gonna be a slow day today--snowing outside AGAIN, and I am so tired of being cold all the time, I'm just going to turn up the heat in here and bundle up. I wish DH would buy a treadmill or elliptical, but that's another story.

Cool...I never knew you were in N.O. I never got to go before the hurricane and so wished I had. I was living in Pensacola during Katrina and got the hurricane end of it. Hubby's uncle lives in Gulfport/Biloxi area and we went back for a visit in Dec. Things are still tore up there. Is N.O. starting to get back to normal then? I am a nurse and wanted so bad to go to N.O. to help but with my name I couldn't bring myself to do it. We got lots of patients from there shipped in to our hospital and their reaction was so horrific when I would walk in and write my name on the board that I nearly started going by my middle name. So I never went. We had enough problems ourselves trying to run a hospital without water and electricity for days afterwards. But by that time we had become pro's since Katrina was our 4th big storm in a year. Needless to say, that was all the reason I needed to move back to my home in Tn. No hurricanes can make it across these mountains. You have lots of fun at Mardi Gras this year! OK...I have an announcement Drum Roll Please (tadatada) I hit Onderland today!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yay me!!!!! Yippee!!!! Can't you tell I'm excited. Haven't seen that "1" since 1993. Wow...14 years ago. Now, grant it, I am .2 lb away from fluxuating back up to that horrible "2" but I won't let that bother me. Oh, I found the neatest place yesterday. I refuse to pay big prices for clothing while I am loosing and my big clothes just fall off of me now so I am always looking for some "temp" clothing. I was driving home yesterday and passed a new Thrift store and just out of curiosity, decided to check it out. Most Thrift stores don't have very good quality clothing so I did not have my hopes up but I walked in and went "WOW" This store was filled with brand name, many brand new, style clothing that believe it or not was mostly in my size. Can you believe that? I am talking about in style, georgous outfits. Could you imagine walking into a store that carried just your size? There was, of course other sizes but the majority of the clothing was my size. That was soooo cool. And I am talking about beautiful suits and things for 11 bucks or less. I wracked up...Bought $76 worth of things and the lady owner was so excited when she found out that I had a band. She questioned me the whole time I was there and even gave me some of the things. Is that a NSV? I would never have been able to wear any of that clothing before..... You ladies have a wonderful weekend. LIFE IS GOOD!!!

November Nymphs Lets Talk Weight Loss!

Craig- Great job, Man! You should be very proud of yourself. Missed being on the board while I was in PA. Don't know if I gained or lost while I was gone. I am going to weigh in tomorrow. Gotta tell you that I worked my tail off in PA. We were buying and loading a 16' truck with all the goodies. Before going on the trip I had to buy some pants. Well, I was down 4 sizes and this size won't last long because they are already getting big. Yeah! Lots of NSV moments for all. Cindy

    Non-scale Victories!

I have a NSV!!! I had surgery October 26th 2007 and did my measurements the day before surgery. I just redid them yesterday (3 months post op) and had gone down 6 (SIX!) inches in my abdomen!!! (around my belly button). That was amazing to me and I had to remeasure about ten times to make sure I hadn't gotten it right. I have only lost about 18 pounds, which is discouraging to me, but that brightened my day a lot!!!
  15. GOOD MORNING!!!!!!!!!! When I woke up this morning I kind of have this ritual..... I feel my belly to see if its flatter and feel for my rib bones and then for my port.... Today I FELT thinner so I was disappointed when the scale didn't show a loss........ but for grins I tried on the NSV size 10 stretch jeans that 4 weeks ago I couldn't pull together enough to button.......... today..... they buttoned and zipped! I put the full set of before and nows up on the thread but here is your own personal version. April 1, 2007 @ 272 Feb 1, 2008 @ 196 (but really I feel like I'm 194)
  16. This morning the scale didn't move but I FELT thinner so I tried on the NSV size 10 jeans.... I GOT THEM BUTTONED and ZIPPED!

    Who's benig banded on 11/20???

Hi Everyone, As I See It At the risk of generalizing, it seems that many of us are within reach of the back door to Bandster Hell. Maybe we haven't found the elusive sweet spot yet (why does the Snitch from Harry Potter come to mind, fluttering in the air just beyond reach), but we are putting in the work, going for our fills, learning how to eat all over again through trial and error and maybe even seeing some NSV's or a little movement on the scale. Let me throw a Bible quote at you, since the Holy Land is my stomping ground: "Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid nor dismayed (Joshua 1:9)". I truly believe that there are great days out there for us, as long as we keep showing up and sticking together. Turning a Corner I have restriction after one fill. I have decided to blend my meals. I just don't have a supportive environment for eating slowly during the week, and I don't want to fight it. I'd rather get the food into me this way rather than dealing with the frustration of sliming and pb-ing in public. I think I'm done fighting the restriction and am ready to use it. I have roughly 3 cups of food a day along with a fruit between meals and clear Soup and herbal tea after dinner. Lately, the temptation to eat at night hasn't been there, and that is a huge relief. I feel I've turned a corner over the last few days and there's been weight loss as well; After having plateaued for a month, I'm down to 249 lbs (no longer morbidly obese!) from 286: a total weight loss of 37 lbs since surgery (I didn't have a pre-op diet). It is good to see the scale moving again. For All of You Firebolt, I strongly empathise with what you said about not wanting to count. I believe that some sort of frame of reference is necessary (cup size, plate size, serving size, or boundaries like not taking seconds) but I have to remember that the only thing dieting and obsessively counting my food intake ever did for me was made me gain weight, which is why I decided on the band! When you think about it, doesn't the band, with it's assorted gurgles, hiccups, and burps give us the best frame of reference at all? I don't mean to imply anything regarding what anyone else is doing. I only know that counting and getting into the diet mentality will only give me grief. Skinny Jill, good luck with Fill III. You are one determined, resolute woman; I would not like to be standing between you and something you want! Marilyn, despite your unpleasant experience after your first fill, I'm glad that things are moving for you, and that you've had some weight loss and pleasant encounters with smaller clothing. Boy, do you deserve it! Keep the good news coming! Marissa, I miss you - what's new?! Let's hear something from you!!! Longhorn, I loved your advice to Ovahkummer. Even when "giving in" to the hunger when restriction is not satisfactory, I've tended to eat less and bounce back quicker than before. I think that's better than assaulting yourself with diet frustration and guilt. Tlwempen, how are you hanging in there until your fill on the 18th? Towens, any more support group meetings? What are they like? Did you get in touch with your Doc after your second fill? And Ovahkummer - how was your adjustment today? I 'll close with Firebolt's words from a recent post of hers - she certainly speaks for me: "Again, I just want to say "Thank You" to each of you who continue to post & keep us informed. This is waaaay better than a "support group" that you only meet once a month. I feel like you guys are good friends now & we share so much together. " Love, Bandpal

    Non-scale Victories!

Thanks Laura - you too!!! It looks like we both have about the same amount to go. It is very exciting that people are noticing how we look now rather than being the invisible fat person (or unisex!). I am very happily married yet it is nice to be noticed :frown: May we both experience many more NSV's!!! wombat

I still can't get my pictures to post, but my avatar picture is from two nights ago when we went out for our anniversary. NSV- My husband said we were walking to the table at Texas Roadhouse and we walked by a table and he saw some guy look me up and down. He said it was the wierdest feeling. He's not use to that, neither am I. He said it was a guy a little older than us (not some old gross dude). I was flattered!

    Share your NSVs!

We're looking in the same direction for NSVs, Steph! I have a suede skirt that I got about four years ago when I lost a significant amount of weight. I gave all my big clothes to my sister who was also losing weight but started off bigger than me. Then she gave them back and I got my beloved skirt back, though it, of course, didn't fit. After my experience last week with another skirt that I had never worn being three inches too big in the waist, I thought maybe I'd try my suede skirt. I was fully expecting that it wouldn't fit but it fit perfectly! It's a true size 16 and being suede, doesn't give a centimeter but it doesn't need to! :hurray: This weekend, I'm going through my closet again. I need to get rid of the things that are too big and bring in a few things that used to be too small. I'm looking forward to it!

Marcy congrats on the NSV with the towel. Aren't the little things what mean the most. Funny how much we appreciate something that others take for granted and actually probably never have given a thought too. Don't know if I could eat the dishes you did but glad you liked it. Glad you didn't get stuck and enjoyed yourself. Sounds like Andrew is paying a little more attention these days. What a wonderful experience we are all having!!
