sleeping position
italian-girl replied to betty20032001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me about 4 weeks to sleep on my stomach. I got a body pillow and slept on my side cuddling it and draping my foot over it and that seemed to work but I had to lay on my right side to do it. But the first two weeks I slept in the lazy boy recliner as that was much more comfy -
I'm eight weeks. I do fine with fruit but bad carbs also make me sweat and really sleepy. I had my gallbladder out too so that could be part of it.

Information Sponge - Tried it all...banded 2 weeks!
hmm33502 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have tried every weight loss method, diet, plan, doctor....anything to lose weight. I am a 32 year old female and I have been over 200 lbs since middle school. I have been banded for 2 weeks and am patiently waiting on my first fill (my doctor won't fill for the first 4 weeks for healing). I am hungry, but I can already see the tremendous difference in my ability to discern the right portion sizes. I am calorie counting so that I don't over eat with an unfilled band. I welcome any suggestions for the future, any success stories, any information at all! -
What If I Can't Change After Getting A Lap Band?
cheryl2586 replied to Fat_Librarian's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you even willing to change is the question not whether you can? I think that you dont have a choice to change your eating habits or it wont work. If your not willing to change your eating habits out of laziness then I would say no dont waste your time. I mean what is so hard to change. You dont have to cook to have success. My husband is out of town a lot and I dont cook except eggs for breakfast. I take one day out of the weekend and prepare my meals for the week. Crock pot stuff mostly and its not that hard really and I eat a lot of salad almost every day. Its not hard to change you just have to be willing to do it. -

Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My one week stall finally gave way too! -
My son had vertical sleeve two weeks ago. He is having difficulty with Protein. He is lactose intolerant. He is not having cramps in his stomach but intestinal. He is taking lactaid now and has gone from mixed protein (shakes, etc) to clear protein. It is everytime he drinks it. Any suggestions? Thanks

I had my second fill on Thursday, April 10th - made the two and a half hour drive across the desert to my doctor's office in Be'er Sheva. He was half an hour late, and although I had the first appointment at nine p.m., I didn't make it out of there and back to my car until nearly ten. The fill itself was nothing - lie down on the table, a swab of local anaesthetic, needle in the chest for a few seconds and button up my shirt on the way back out the door - but I had to stay and drink two glasses ofwater to make sure they went down. I made it home by 12:30 am. This was a 2cc fill, so I'm up to 5cc in a 10cc Swiss Johnson & Johnson band. It's very tight. I've slimed up saliva a few times, but it seems to be loosening up a bit even though I haven't even thought seriously about trying to eat. I've been on liquids since Thursday, which means I haven't had anything to eat in three days. Having been on liquids for a week after the surgery has become a point of strength I keep coming back to. So much of our eating is by choice, isn't it? Out of want, not need. When I think I want to eat, sometimes I remind myself that I made it a whole week on liquids and nothing happened to me - so do I really need whatever it is that I want? Now I'm back to liquids, and I know I'm not going to start eating again until I feel ready, until I can get thick liquids down without bringing them back up. It's amazing, meanwhile, how I'm nearly never hungry, and how much more clarity and presence of mind I have when I am not thinking about what I ate, what I'm going to eat, what I would eat if I could, etc. Go Nymphs! - Bandpal

Okay so I have hit another 2 week plateau so I asked my trainer to take my measurements. I get too hung up on what the scale says and it really messes with my head. The measurements really help me keep all my hard work in perspective. I surely have am proud of this.

I have had 5 fills, 4cc-2cc-2cc-.5cc-and on Fri the 17th 1cc more, in my 15cc band. It is HERE! The sweet spot, that is! I did liquids for 1 day, mushies for 1, and today back to food. I am a lil nervouse if im too tight. NNothing hurts, but I can even feel the water taking its time thru the band! I have been losing atleast a lb per week, but I think that will turn to closer to 2 lbs a week now. A half a grilled chicken breast fills me up now, and it wasnt even that big to begin with. I am so excited. In 12 lbs I will be less than 250!:wub::smile:

How do you get at least 64oz of water a day? I can barely manage half of that. And dehydrated?
Ambwee replied to Ambwee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My stomach can't handle Protein shakes right now. The ones I love before surgery, make my gag and I can't get more than a sip down because it taste so horrible and it makes my stomach turn and hurt. Is this normal at first? I'm only 1 week and 4 days post op. -

NICU-RN replied to Ambwee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Try different Protein shakes. I use unjury - available only from unjury.com I find it the best tasting one of all those I've tried. I did notice that most things tasted differently after my surgery. I am unable to eat any pureed foods for the same reason you are unable to drink Protein Shakes - my stomach revolts. So I am existing on 3-4 protein shakes and a popsicle a day until my next visit in 2 weeks. Good luck. -
Surgery This Thursday, 4/5/12! A Little Introduction...
NewMissB posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone...Britt here from NY. I've been lurking around reading posts here for a while, and all the supportive people on this site really helped inspire me to go through with getting banded. I've been overweight since I was a child, and always the heaviest in my family. Lap band was never something I considered simply because I felt like it was "giving up," and that being banded meant I was weak...which is exactly what everyone else thought of me, and why I didn't want to give in. I have completely changed my opinion in this regard, and know that I am taking a step in the right direction to get myself healthy, which DOES NOT mean I'm weak, rather it means I'm strong enough to admit that I can't do it on my own, which so many people can't admit. I'm less than three days away from surgery and I have many different emotions going through me right now. I'm scared, excited, nervous, determined, and confused. Will my liver be small enough? Will I be able to handle the pain? I'm terrified to wake up and find out that my liver was too large and I couldn't have the surgery. I've been doing opti for two weeks, and have cheated once or twice the first week, but only with a small piece of low fat cheese, or a bite or two of a banana. I have only lost about six pounds, which I think is good, but hearing what other people have lost makes me think I should have lost more. My doctor didn't specify an amount of weight to lose prior to surgery, so I'm super nervous that I won't be able to get banded! Is there anyone else who didn't lose a lot on Pre-op but still had no problems with getting the surgery, or their liver being too large? Thanks for any help you can give me, I appreciate it! -
lucky losers (march 09 bandsters) - what do you eat when you go off mushies?
ndhill3 replied to KarenInOhio's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, I was banded on March 9th. After mushies I pretty much ate what I wanted but was very careful to take my time and chew chew chew! I had lean hamburger with steak sauce or anything that would make it moister, chicken breast with barbeque sauce, etc. The key is to eat chicken, etc with kind of a sauce on it to help it go down. Vegetables, I've tried about all of them. Like I said I chew my food so much it's liquid substance. But I also feel it's how much restriction you have. I'm at the end of my 5th week and I'm hungry and can eat whatever I want. Which is not good because I'm maintaining a 30lb loss not losing anymore. But I go for a fill tomorrow. I would watch fibrious foods just in case. And I found out a lot of information online and from talking to other people. Hope I helped somewhat and good luck!!! :sneaky: -
I'm 5 weeks out and haven't seen my youngest daughter in 4 weeks....she goes to college. She came home and said OH MY GOSH MOM you LOST A LOT OF WEIGHT...WOW I can really tell! You are looking good...I didn't think you would look that good already! LOL I wanted to say GEE THANKS but instead I did my "STRUT YOUR STUFF WALK" and gave her a BIG HUG AND KISS!!!!! I MISSED my BABY!! LOL That was my FEEL GOOD MOMENT!!! I hope EVERYONE has a GREAT weekend.

Hello everyone, I am a newly banded person and so far so good. I was banded on October 9th by Dr. Rumbaut in Mexico. Just from the liqiud diet alone I have already lost 30 pounds and loving it. I have a long way to go but it sure was a nice start. Getting back to the soft food was nice because that three weeks (1 pre op and two post op) of liquid diet is a killer. Next week I get to go back to all regular foods. I am vry glad for this forum so I can talk to other people who have had the same procedure because I have only told very few people what I have done. It is not that I am ashamed of getting it done but maybe more of a failier of not being able to lose weight on my own. I am not really sure how to feel actually. Anyways, maybe I am a bit confused!!!

Okay well this is my first time being on here, I posted on obesityhelp.com and found this site aslo. To begin I had lap band surgery on Feb 18, 2009 and started out at 274 on surgery day. I weighed myself and I only lost 16 pounds down to 258. A week after I had surgery I flew back overseas to go back to work the flight was fine. I have had good days eating and bad days. I didnt work out much in the Month of March or Arpril. In March I was still sore I guess because of the flight and my incisions hadnt healed all the way. In April I felt much better but I was doing to much working out because 10 to 15 minutes I felt real tired and winded so I toned it down. I finally got into a routine and got up to 20 to 25 minutes on the elliptical. At the end of April I took on a step aerobics class MWF which last about an hour and doing another 45 minutes later on in the night. I also work out on T-Th for 45 minutes the extra work out is on the elliptical. Even with all this working out I just wanted to know is it normal not to lose. I havent had a fill since my surgery and was thinking that was the reason but I dont know. Does anybody have any answers.

As a young child, I grew up poor. We rarely ate out or got special treats. As I got money of my own, I spent it on the foods that I wanted but could never have. I am sure that this was a large part of me becoming overweight. Everywhere I would go, I would think about food. Where would I eat? What would I eat? I almost felt like I needed to eat everywhere that I went, even if I wasn't hungry. I think it was because I could eat in these situations, where as a child/teen I would have never been able to eat. Fast forward to my 3 week post-op experience... I went to a baseball game last night for a buck night special. Hot dogs, beer, pepsi, and popcorn were only $1. Its a good thing I am still so close to surgery, because it was hard to refuse these items that really are on the top of my favorite foods list. It rained, which I think helped too. At least that way I didn't have to smell the popcorn. Food has such a hold on so many of us. Its a daily effort to remember why we had surgery and why we are changing our lives. Let's all drink a Protein shot to our successes and move on from our failures.

Mine looked pretty much like yours. I had one bigger incision that had quite a bit of bruising around it, and it took almost 4 weeks for that bruise to go away completely. I think it is normal.

Hospital affer 6 weeks
MsLissa12 replied to moviemom05's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
i'm on the track, but the tunnel is nowhere in sight!!! lol it is a daily thing, every day is different. I'm having a hard time w/my changing taste buds. What used to be tolerated and good sometimes is awful and undigestable. Example? Applesauce. I used to eat the natural unsweet MOTT'S applesauce daily. Post op, wk3 I tried, it tasted weird and texture was ick! I just gave up and stuck to jello! I have reverted to my week 2/3 stage foods just to be able to eat/stomach some substanence! Sigh...it's a long road, but i'm on the wagon rolling along...keep your chin up and don't be afraid to take it slow. You have to go at your own body's pace (and tastes!) You're going to find your way, i know i'm still looking! -

I feel awful for you! I had such a horrible time when I first got home too. I hated the taste of everything, food and liquids. About the 4th day after surgery a good friend of mine came and took care of me to get liquids in me so I wouldn't be hospitalized. If it hadn't been for her I would have been admitted. She cooked a turkey for me! I couldn't eat the turkey right away but the broth!!! OMG! It tasted wonderful and I literally lived on the turkey broth for the next following 2 weeks! The point of me telling you my story is to let you know that you need to just keep trying different things until you find something that you can eat or drink. TRY, TRY, AND TRY SOME MORE! You are going to be just fine....Good luck on your journey! -
Pre-approval frustration
Russian_BANDit_inNY replied to Russian_BANDit_inNY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today is day 8 after I have completed all of my doctor's requirements for the surgery. Today is day 4 after the day my doc's surgery coordinator should of submitted my papers to the Insurance for approval. As of 3pm today - Insurance received nothing. I still can not reach the 'right' person at the doctor's office to find out why. Doctor is on vacation second half of Feb, and I have to have 2 weeks of pre-op diet... That means February surgery is most likely out of the question. I now understand why NYU docs require psyche evaluation from all patients - they don't want us to go mental on them from all that delays. -
I'm 4 weeks out and i'm only doing the treadmill at home, can not lift weights yet, only walking,so listen to your Dr and have some patience

I used to love flying when I was younger. I grew up in Alaska with family in Texas, Indiana, and new Mexico. Flew all over the country, regularly. Flew intermittently through my 20s for business and vacations. For a number of reasons, I hadn't flown since before 9/11 so my business trip this week has been my first foray on a plane with the tsa nonsense and the whole carry on luggage nonsense. I now hate flying. And it's only partially because the plane seats are so freaking tiny. 17" across... I looked it up. That's nuts. And not just for wide loads like me... most athletic men have broader shoulders than that. No way to have any speck of personal space. I'll lose weight after the surgery and not have to squeeze my butt and thighs into a seat, but it's not going to make me any shorter or do much about my shoulder width. My knees were touching the seat in front of me and the head rest was in my shoulders. And that's not even considering the dammed tsa. That was a nightmare. I will be fixing my name on my passport and getting pre check as soon as humanly possible when I get home. I also think I'm checking a bag next time, because trying to pack for a week business trip in a roller is just nuts. I'm not sure where I was going with this, but needed to rant somewhere. It was a miserable airport and flight experience, I don't care for hotel stays, and I get to endure the airport and flight again tomorrow. Geez. sent from mobile device

Getting Ahead Of Myself
vlp1968 replied to CarrieBrownsville's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow- 8 weeks until solids is a really long time. I spent one week on full liquids, one week on mushies then solids. I had no problems. However, I agree with others who are saying to call and check with your doctor before advancing your diet. Good luck! -
