  1. I had a band to sleeve revision on 4/22 @ 245 lbs. 5 months later, I'm 218...only 27 lbs. I saw my surgeon yesterday and HE was pleased!

    Melbourne Chat Thread!!!!

Hey Christie, welcome to the site. I'm also from Sydney and Dr Talbot is doing my revision surgery on the 2nd of April. After going through hell with my last Dr, I must say Dr Talbot was a nice refreshing change. So down to earth and easy to talk to. Seeing as I'll be going into surgery before u, I'll keep u posted on what the experience with him is like.
  3. Plus aftercare can be done by your PCP. Since my surgeon is local, I see both. But I could just see my PCP, if my surgeon isn't available. Susan - I want you to know that your complications are one of the reasons I got a sleeve to begin with. I knew that you hadn't caused your own problems from lack of compliance and so it made slippage real to me in a way that some other poster's issues hadn't. As for standard of care, most insurance companies will pay for a revision no matter what your weight *if* the reason for a revision is a mechanical failure of the first surgery. But they won't pay for it just because you didn't lose enough weight with the first surgery. That's what their policies say anyway. There are a few cases I've heard of where someone was denied for a revision because they weren't heavy enough, so I think some insurance companies don't follow this standard enough though they should.

    Melbourne Chat Thread!!!!

Hi, Well I am going to see my surgeon today and I will learn whether or not I have to have a port revision. Hopefully he will be able to put a fill in today and I will be able to avoid any further surgery. Who knows. It has been stressing me out for the last few days. Welcome to the new people who have come to the thread in the last few days also. Susannah
  5. Actually they do pay for revisions because people did not lose enough. If the person can show effort such as a gym membership, receipts from a personal trainer, WW, OA, etc., that is often times enough for a revision. Usually a two year wait has to be met after the original surgery unless there is a mechanical problem that needs to be repaired. The problem is that most people in this country do not have WLS benefits. Most believe WLS goes hand in hand with major medical and it does not. It's an extra premium for the employer.

    Feeling like a faliure...

Sounds like you are doing everything right, although my doc says target as far as calories should be between 600 and 800 a day, and min of 60 grams Protein. working on your Water consumption will help too. I would not be embarrassed to talk to your doctor. He/she needs to know what's going on and help you figure out why you don't have more restriction. So sorry you are going thru this. I may be in your shoes soon, as I am a revision from band to sleeve, and having sleeve done next month. We just have to come here to talk it out, and realize that it's a journey and sometimes we need help with the journey. don't let your sadness defeat everything. Hang in there, talk to the doc, work on your water, and tell us what he/she says after your appointment.

    360+ pounds?!? help!

@ I was 302 pounds the first day I met with my program director. I am 5'2 and that is 160 pounds of extra (unnecessary) weight I was carrying around, all day, everyday. Two weeks into the program I was moved into "group" meetings and there I met women from different points in the same journey. Until that first meeting, I was going towards Sleeve surgery as it seemed less invasive (it isn't), less restrictive (it is but that isn't necessarily a "good" thing) and didn't seem as drastic (umm, you completely lose part of your stomach, that's pretty drastic). During that meeting I met six ladies who had all had sleeve done and were getting revisions to Bypass. When I asked "why?", they all had a similar story. They never reached goal weight, they were still battling comorbidities and they had horrible acid reflux (worse than prior to surgery). Two of them had actually been LapBand patients prior to getting Sleeved and were now faced with a third WLS. In total, there were out of the thirty people on the program (at the same time I was) 12 of them were Sleeve to Bypass revisions. Those revision stories and the fact that I already had horrible GERD, my surgeon and I decided Bypass was best for me. He also felt that due to my obesity, my obesity related issues and my age, (30's) Bypass was a better fit. I have lost seventy pounds since having surgery on September 9th 2015 and have absolutely no regrets. None. Not a single one and everyday I feel better and better. I am off all my diabetes medicine, my blood pressure medicine and my labs are spot on with taking my Vitamins daily. Which is something I (and many others) should be doing regardless of surgery. Many obese individuals were not getting the right nutrition from the foods they were eating, anyway. I am in no way trying to persuade you in one direction or the other. I am not a medical professional and all I am offering is my story. And the reason I decided to have Bypass over Sleeve. Good luck on your journey!

    June surgery

I am having a really hard time following this preop diet I keep cheating! I guess I'll make sure to follow it starting Tuesday since my surgery is the 2nd! Also, getting nervous a bit since I am a revision from lapband I keep thinking I am going to wake up and they tell me sorry we couldn't do it all at once. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    June surgery

I'm June 7. Revising from lap-band which was removed on March 16. The process has taken well over a year. It feels a little surreal now that it's really getting close.
  11. I just had a port revision a few weeks ago (mine was tipped and they couldn't access it). Mine is right on the waistline, so I'm no help to you there, but I wanted to reassure you that it's a pretty minor operation and I was feeling great within a few days. They didn't use general on me, it was conscious sedation (they give you something to relax you through an iv, but don't put you out). I don't remember a thing. As with most things, it varies from doc to doc. Some will do it with a local right in their office. I was happy to be put down - less nerve wracking if you ask me!

    Plastic Surgery Poll

I've already had it all...LOL. I guess that means possible revisions for me. I had full body lipo., breast lift and tummy tuck in 2005. Would I do it again? Only the TT. I wouldn't pay the money for the BL or Lipo again......love the TT.
  13. I was sleeved 17 days ago.i was a revision due to a lap band that had eroded into my stomach. I had it removed 2 months prior to surgery and then had the sleeve. I am on soft foods and really have no appetite . Still having problems getting In enough fluids. My main problem is that I am very tired. Does anyone else have the fatigue problem this time out. I am getting in about 55 to 60 grams of protein Thanks

Current weight: 119. Please revise my goal to 117. I chose 118 because I thought my body was basically finished releasing fat. Apparently not.

    No Complications

I would love to hear more about your experience. I am having sleeve to bypass revision and I am nervous too. Much more than I was for the sleeve.

    Dumping 😭😭😭

17 months post op. Yes I still get sick. I have figured out somethings that will get me but like you said one time for something is okay and then the next time its not oaky. I ended up losing down to 142 from 180 after revision. I pretty much sit at 148. I dont worry about regain anymore which is good. I dont mind the trade off really, it keeps me in check. It does get better the farther out you get just listen to your body. Over eating makes me sick too and in the beginning I could not feel a thing until it was too late and I was already sick. I really have to be careful.

    Dumping 😭😭😭

I'm a little over a year post-op revision and I still have "dumping" episodes a couple times a week. It was MUCH WORSE the first couple months after surgery. Unfortunately, there isn't really any rhyme or reason to when I dump. Yes, high sugar and high fat items are sometimes a trigger, but overeating anything can have the same result. I get hot flashes, then severe bloating followed by diarrhea. But, dumping does keep me honest when it comes to watching what I eat. And I have to be super careful about my eating when I'm not at home!

    NSV and SV!

I am beyond ecstatic. I am now below 300 pounds! I started at 540 pounds on October 29, 2015 when I started this whole journey. I had surgery on May 29, 2016 at 480 pounds and Now, 10 1/2 months later I weigh 297.8! I have not had a 2 in the front of my weight in FOREVER. I only have 98 pounds to go until I hit my goal! (Which may change, I'm more going for a clothing size goal now more than a number goal ) I used to have to be on oxygen all the time because I was so fat I could not breathe properly. Now I can walk for over an hour with no break and not be out of breath! I am so extremely happy with my progress! I used to HATE getting my picture taken, it was the WORST. Now I love getting in front of the camera, I ASK for pictures to be taken! This is the craziest thing for me. I feel pretty for the first time in a very very long time. I started out at a size 6x (36-38) and now wear a an 18/20 on top and 22 on bottom. I even wear leggings now! I have a large hanging skin on my stomach which I am having removed on June 5th! I will need a revision surgery when I get to goal but I am very excited for the surgery and the relief it will give me. Here are some before and after pics for you guys!

    No One In The Sixties?

So glad to see other tough baby boomers here! I'm 63 and am having band to rny revision on Monday. I went to the hospital this morning to have my pre-op tests done and to finish the paperwork. Nervous and excited! I wonder how much our age factors into complications and recovery. Any ideas? Good luck Glennr--you are just a few days after me. Vicki had her surgery yesterday. Granny, you are an inspiration and give me hope for great results--even at our age!! (don't you just love that expression...)

    Had Surgery On May 17Th...

I was sleeved on May 19th, but I was a revision patient, from a lap band with plication to VSG. It was an emergency surgery, but we had been planning to do it: just not as an emergency! So, this post-op diet is not my first rodeo. I have found take out Soups to be a godsend these past few days. Yesterday I called my favorite Chinese food spot and ordered egg drop Soup. It was the most delicious thing I have ever consumed I think! Theirs is chicken broth based and very thin, so it has the favors of the green onions/shrimp, but none of the hard to digest items. I also had some of my favorite broth based tortilla soup from a local Mexican place one evening. Maybe this will help some of you, as it has for me. Also, let me pat you all on the back for choosing the VSG rather than doing a band. I am so glad to have that thing out: it never worked properly for me, and I can already tell this procedure is going to work so much better for me. I lost weight with my band, but only because it turned me into a bullemic, basically. The best treat this week: a "gourmet" Popsicle shop just opened up in town! Good timing, I would say!
  21. I'm a revision and I have hypo-thyroidism. I'm 4 mos post op and have lost 52 lbs total and 48 lbs to go. I don't lose as quickly as some, but I also think it's because I have less to lose. This makes a huge difference.

    June 2014 Dates!?

Congrats to everyone who has commenced their journey, I've not yet posted but started reading bp as the nerves are setting in, I'm having rny on Friday 6/6, I'm in Australia. I had a gastric sleeve in 2011 and needed revision, I could eat too much fro day 1 and reflux was horrible so this is the only solution for me. Lucky I have a great surgeon although he is never the chatty one, he breezes in and out and always minimises concerns so never get the support and reassurance I would like at the moment. I've joined the Facebook post op group so hope to speak there soon. Looking forward to starting to hear from people as they come out of surgery. AJ

    JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP

Hello Everyone! I hope I can count as a July Sleever. I had my surgery on June 30. The hardest part so far was the fact that my cousin's birthday party was June 29th and I could not eat anything. I still can't believe I did it. I was a band revision to sleeve. I started at 355 (my highest weight was 391). I am down 30 lbs since surgery. Unbelievable! Funny thing is, I am not hungry. This is very strange for me. I eat because I know I have to and when I feel weak. I am working through this mentally. I am still attracted to food, the sight, and smell. However, I do not crave it anymore. It is as if my mind has already adjusted to the fact that I do not have the same stomach volume as before. This is so great that it's almost scary. Scary because this can really work! If I do what I am supposed to do, and learn to have a different relationship with food, I can have a normal body weight. Finally! Thank God!
  24. With MGB doctors usually bypass 5"-9" of the intestines. And I was just wondering what will happen if the doctor fixes a much shorter loop like 0.5"-1"??? The reason I'm asking is because I had a MGB at a BMI of only 33.. I had it done only after my doctor convinced me that it's a better option for me than VSG and I trusted him. Now I'm losing weight so fast that at 8 weeks out I'm only 5kgs away from my goal weight. I've consulted another doctor who surprisingly advised a revision to normal RNY!!!! I know a reversal of MGB (getting my stomach back) is an option but I had major bleeding complications following my MGB surgery and I'm thinking maybe just a revision to a shorter loop could be a better option! I'm currently having no problems in eating nor in getting 70 grams of Protein per day. I average around 1000-1200 calories and drink around 50-64 ounces of Water. I take in my Vitamins everyday. Yet I'm still losing so much weight and sorry for tmi but my stools are very greasy! So I assume I'm not absorbing any fat! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
