Are There Any Single Sleevers Out There..

Yup single and mingling! I have never dated another bariatric patient before.
  2. well my PICC line is gone, I am back trying to eat enough to justify its removal, my surgeonthinks i can do it, his CNP Valerie thinks I can do it, even my ombadswoman Kelly at Option Care,my former TPN. company, even Tomkitten my son tho,is I can do it, seems like only 1 person. thinks I can't- ME! Oh well I will keep on with my vitamins, minerals and whatever. Try to eat my mini- meals, and pray I am going to be okay for my endoscopy which isn't until April 12th. Nobody seems to really care or give me any emotional support until then, so I will do what i can, if I can, for myself,by myself and cry myself if and when it all goes wrong. You see, I feel I'm beating my head against a brick wall, and everybody else who should be paying attention is dancing around, patting each other on the back, and telling each other what a great job they are doing for Frustr8 and not a one ever looks my way while they're doing their little Victory Dance. I don't even have a clue what I weigh now, counted on that monthly weight check-in,I am hoping 260, 265 tops. I am Apathetic toward food, nothing tastes good, nothing sounds appealing, might as well eat 2 oz of metamucil every 3 hours, I sip 2 oz of fluid every 15 minutes in between and wonder how I got locked into this life of futility. Not what the shiny fancy Bariatric Folders said this would be . And my food mood is not very happy today. 6 months on Tuesday and I think I still resemble the barrel more than the barrel racer. I know we have each our own path but today it's mud and pea gravel. This Cowgirl has the Blah Blues and I don't see a Happy day of Joy in my immediate future.

Okay so correction to prior statement. My bloodwork was not for the Bariatric surgeon it was for my nephrologist 😅 so once you finish classes: they contacted me to set up surgeon consult and that’s it. he will give his yay or nay. I was nervous that I wouldn’t be approved because I started at 310 and at my last class we did our weigh in and I told them 304 (It was that time of the month) but a few days later I was 297. So I’ll just have to give him an updated weight when we have our chat. did you guys do a last weight in? Check your lo message center? It’s odd that they would call some and not others.
  4. I have just arrived home from our 14 day holiday. We had it booked pre- covid and the company allowed us to continue postponing the booking until we could go. It was a All inclusive type holiday where you stay in a big resort and everything is at hand which suits us when travelling, my husband needs a wheelchair. We were a little nervous of the airports and flying as it is such a hassle with a wheelchair. It all went quite smoothly except for the times I was stranded with a hubby, wheelchair, two suitcases and two bags and a large handbag. At times it felt like I was the puzzle where you have a river to cross with a bag of grain, a hen and a fox. I wore the bags like a bandolero, pulled the suitcase and pushed the wheelchair with my stomach. Oh the joys of checking in at airports. I ate what I wanted, which being me, was always the best fish, seafood, cheeses and a vast amount of serrano/ parma ham. They made their own cookies and bread so these never got bypassed but in small amounts. I even had butter and ice cream. I drank strong coffee with liqueurs and some long cocktails. Usually one or two a day. A few times I felt really drunk when the bar tenders had made the cocktails stronger than the last. It was not a good feeling but I found something to eat and then the alcohol was absorbed quickly. I was a little worried to get on the scales this morning. Pre surgery, I could put almost a stone on in the two weeks [14lbs] a lot of it was water weight around my swollen ankles. I weighed in at exactly the same and TMI moment, had 8 days of poop inside me. So may even loose weight when the medicine kicks in [ or is it out ? ] So te he he another win win for my bariatric surgery
  5. Hi Rakiki, We're all in the same boat. Last time I called at Dr. Savoie's office, his secretary told me he was suppose to start his surgeries in a day or two. I was curious, so I called the surgery department and they told me they hadn't receive any files from Dr. Savoie yet. I also heard the hospital wasn't a 100% ready for those kind of surgeries yet. It seems it won't be for now at least not before April and even then. Sorry, I wish I could have better news. For me two but if I can suggest 2 books I read that really helped me to know more about the before and after lapband surgery and dealing with the emotionnal part are those 2 books. The Emotionnal First + Aid Kit, A Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery by Cynthia L. Alexander, PsyD and Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding, Achieving Permanent Weight Loss With Minimally Invasive Surgery by Jessie H. Ahronni, Ph.D, A.R.N.P. (really good book). I got them at Amazon.ca but you're close to Chapters so maybe you can get them there if not, they probably get them for you. Clempier, Beresford NB
  6. Wow, all of you amaze me!! Jacqui, I have been following your posts for a long time and YOU motivate me! I look at you in the bikini and wonder if that will ever be me!! You've very inspiring, no wonder your motivation is intrinsic and not material goods. Unfortunately, I work really good on rewards LOL Newlifekp, you have some great motivators. I also love the compliments and, guess what, we are planning a vow renewal for our 25 year anniversary in August, 2013. I'm really hoping I can meet my goal by then! Trystelle, a rescue dog is awesome! What a treat he/she must be. Very good point, saving your dog's life while extending your own - way to go! Speck, so true. By the way, you are doing awesome! You women are truly incredible!
  7. Gosh my doctor has done hundreds of lap bands and hundreds of sleeves and over 200 band to sleeve conversions. The only complication he has ever had, in all that time, was when one patient took a handful of vitamins (several months after surgery) and aspirated them. It became a very life-threatening situation and he had to be opened up to get the vitamins out. I have no data from a hospital or clinic where hundreds of bariatric surgeries are done each week, but I'd be willing to bet that they do not have a large number of incidents of wound infections. Perhaps it would be smart if someone who has a vested interest could do some research and see how many complications are considered "acceptable" and how many are condsidered "excessive." I do not even know how many actual posts there were of patients who had contracted infections or who had a leak who posted here. Perhaps Can. can tell us. If the doctor is doing a lot of surgeries per day, then Sandy might be right when she says that the clinic has not experienced an excessive number of problems.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

RANT:::: Thinking my pre op yesterday was going to be a breeze I should have been a little more prepared for just something to not go as planned:( I had an endoscopy in 2015 which the nurse a few weeks ago in my bariatric office said should be fine and she would consult with the dr to make sure and that NO news was good news. Well when the office called telling me my cardiologist had not sent the clearance letter they also asked about my endoscopy.. which of course I said I was told it was ok to use the 2015 per the nurse. So after I left yesterday I had to call the gastro office to have them send consent to the other office -- Not that easy because they called this morning playing phone tag telling me that the gastro dr said NO NO NO I had to do another test or she would not send any consent for clearance OMG!!! Really!! So I was able to get an appt for 4/3 and within 15 minutes that appt was taken away because my procedure has to be done in a hospital not at the alt. location because they would not accept me with health issues:( So before the office closed I FINALLY was told it would be tomorrow morning. More time off just what I was trying to avoid. Hope everyone else has better luck, I just thought I was so much better prepared, and they pull this extra stress on me when I can't eat... Mean just Mean ha ha! RANT OVER:)

Guys who started over 400 lbs.

I began the bariatric process last summer. I thought I remembered it being in June, but it was actually the beginning of July 2015. I weighed 478 pounds. On high blood pressure & cholesterol meds. Been suing a CPAP machine for 10 years prior. Had a herniated T-12 disc, spinal stenosis and severe advanced arthritis in both knees. I had the sleeve surgery in mid October 2015. Surgeon also repaired a large umbilical hernia at the same time (third surgical repair for the same issue). I weighed 422 lbs on the day of my surgery. Hospital stay was short....released the next day. Came home and recovered. Slept in a recliner for the first couple weeks. I highly suggest this, too. So easy to get in & out of....and very little stress on the abdomen. There have been absolutely zero complications from my sleeve surgery. The hernia repair is not doing well, but I was advised to think of it as a temporary repair that would have to be addressed as the abdominal muscles were no longer being pulled outwards by excess fat and gravity. I go back at the one year mark to see where I'm at with the hernia. I feel good....great on some days. The back is healing on it's own. Arthritis is more tolerable. Blood pressure meds are cut in half. I don't snore near as bad. I used to take 800 mg of Advil twice a day just to get around......now I go through most days without taking any. I exercise by walking and through some light weight training. I am limited in the movements I can make due to healing back and pending hernia stuff....but I get around the gym and do the stuff that feels good. I now, for the first time since high school, weigh under 300 lbs. I am closing in on my goal weight and have high confidence that I'll beat it and live at a lighter, more lean weight. I'm very happy with all aspects of the progress and can say without reservation that I would do the sleeve surgery again without a seconds thought. My surgeon has given me very simple yet effective instructions to follow and as long as I do so.....the scale number keeps getting smaller. I'm very grateful for this. My only regret is not doing this sooner. Much sooner. You are doing the right thing in doing your research and making sure you are getting the best from your surgeon and best nutritional advice upfront. The sleeve is very easy to live with and the weight loss is is going to happen for you.

MyFitnessPal doesn't like how much I eat

@@LittleBill they've heard it all from bariatric patients. It's in their FAQ. They know that some people, including WLS patients, are under doctor's supervision and are cleared to eat VLCD, but they will not change their program. It's not worth anyone's time to bug them about it.
  12. It's normal to need cardiovascular and pulmonary clearance for bariatric surgery, has nothing to do with your insurance. Every bariatric patient where I work needs medical cardiac pulmonary psych nutrition clearances for surgery. I would say that's relatively standard And remember the risks for cardiac and pulmonary problems with being obese is a large part of why insurance companies cover bariatric surgery to begin with.

Hello fellow sleevers. I had my surgery last week on Thursday 11-9-17. I'm in Colorado. I just got this Bariatric Pal app 2 days ago. How do you choose a photo and out your info at the bottom? Sent from my SM-G925T using BariatricPal mobile app

    March Sleevers

Started my "all shakes" diet today. Piece of cake. Sure the temptation is there to eat a spoon full of ground turkey my kids cooked up but im quickly learning to direct my attention to something else....like a shake. Was surprised to hear from the bariatric nurse today that ill be in the hospital for only one night....which made my day. For some reason i had it in my mind id be in for 3 nights.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

So this Pilates studio I go to is right next door to a very popular breakfast place. In fact, this place is known to have an hour or more wait on any day of the week and I always have to hunt for a parking place if I’m having a morning class. Also, this week is spring break which is making it even busier than usual. Anyway, this morning just as I was opening the door to leave class, I almost walked smack into my bariatric surgeon and his family as I’m heading to my car. He apparently has the week off because he always does his surgeries on Wednesdays and was taking the fam out to breakfast. It was funny to see the look on his face when I announced that was my 3rd Pilates class of the week and to tell him to “enjoy breakfast, I’ll see you in May for my 3 month follow-up”. 🤣🤣🤣

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Sheribear--it would be great to get a comparison! I was also told I could switch to any iron supplement and start taking capsule vitamins (versus the softchews) as long as the multivitamins are bariatric-specific vitamins. I don't mind the softchews, but they are expensive. Anyone have a good multivitamin capsule to recommend?

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I completely understand the regrets. Knowing all I know right now, I would probably still have the surgery, but my side effects are not as bad as some of you (thank goodness the Miralax--after 6 doses and 3 days--is working on my horrific constipation, but only in small doses over two days now---gotta stay close to a potty). I had my first mandated-by-my-surgeon of three meetings with the bariatric support group sponsored by my nutritionist. It was a mix of folks who are considering the surgery, those about 9 or less months out, and those who had the surgery in the last couple of months. Much of the talk centered around whether to tell friends and coworkers about the surgery. Tonight we have dinner with a small group of friends where I know the host will have delicious steak and top-notch wine. She always makes the same dinner when we come over because it's my family's favorite (steak, mashed potatoes, buttery brown mushrooms, and asparagus). My brother and his wife will be there, and they know about the surgery, but the host and her husband do not. I will have to just go with it and see what comes out of my mouth when they notice I'm obviously not having cocktails, wine, or steak. I guess I'll find out what I say if asked as I doubt my brother will mention it (although I have not told him NOT to so he might). Someone in the support group said once you tell one person, sooner of later everyone will know so I guess it's just a matter of time. I suppose the most compelling reason for NOT telling folks is because I don't want "having gastric bypass" being associated with my identity....that is, people saying: "Oh, I know her, she's the one who had bariatric surgery." What do y'all think of that? Do you think it becomes true of someone who has had the surgery? Is it a stigma? Thanks.

    Women!

My all in one Bariatric Choice chewable wafer supplement has Iron in it~ and it is like sucking on a candy- yum But just in case your tiredness isn't from low iron, the nurse at my clinic always says that if we start to feel that way to start charting: 1)how much Protein we are getting in 2)how many fluids 3)how often we are taking our Vitamins and are e taking enough? She said that often we will find that we aren't doing what we are supposed to be doing and that's why we get really low energy. Also~ my sister had extremely low Bs. It affected her very badly with low energy. She ended up getting a B shot every week. She said she felt so much better right after getting it too. If it continues def go to the dr and see what's up! I hope it passes quickly, I hate that feeling
  21. Thanks so much for the info! I've never heard of Built Bars, but will look into them. I have a bunch of Premier Protein shakes onhand, but was told they're off-limits as they're not on the "recommended" list for my specific bariatric program. Sucks because they are 30g of protein and I figure it's better than nothing. I follow the protein first rule as well, but as I mentioned, I can only eat so much of it before I'm full/very uncomfortable. BTW....glad I'm not the only one who can't stand Unjury! LOL! I keep getting told by my dietician and doctor that it's not that bad...YES, it is! LOL!!!

    Vitamin Patches- Do they work?

I use the Multi Vitamin patch from the Bariatric Pal store. I have had great labs. I put one on in the morning and it is there until the next day. I have even taken a shower with one on and it stayed put. I have them on a monthly subscription along with my Protein hot chocolate. Am thinking of getting other Patches for some of the other Vitamins I need to take.
  23. I used premier after my sleeve surgery but find my stomach won’t tolerate them after my recent revision to bypass. I highly recommend trying these samples. https://store.bariatricpal.com/products/syntrax-nectar-protein-powder-trial-sizes-17-flavors-to-choose-from?vec=eyJ2ZVRwIjoiRk9SVU0iLCJ2clRwIjoiTU9TVF9QT1BVTEFSIiwidnJJcCI6IjEifQ%3D%3D my favorite is the chocolate truffle and I tolerate them very well. I would be Leary of a one per day vitamin. Iron and calcium will counteract each other in certain doses. Also check with your team as they may require you to start on chewables. I take the bariatric fusion. Bottle says take 4 per day but my dr assures me that if I take two twice per day I will get the same results. I like that I don’t need any extra d3, iron or calcium with these. good luck!
  24. I have Lincare, they have been super, not one problem anywhere. The tech, Chico, who taught me the little ins-and-outs my sleep, lab forgot, clear through the misc. little monthly changes of. nose pads and filters. The new items are here just when promised, they check, with me monthly to make sure everything ok. Now if my bariatric care team functions as well I will be a super happy camper.😛
  25. cb 1986 tis me, your friendly old as the hills poster. Anesthesia and sedation is pretty cool these days. Not at all like the bad old days when you puked until you swore your toenails were going be next thing coming out. A sisterly FYI, ask for the antinauesea patch, goes behind your ear, works as smooth as A hot knife through butter. You might get a little blurry vision afterwards, most people don't, but you weren't going to perform brain surgery for a few days anyway. Oh I'm not going to say there is no chance for nausea, but 8 to 5 you won't and those are ok odds at the track. Dread is usually worse than the actual thing, and bariatric surgery is one,of the v smoother ones around. You want it to go nice and easy, well surprise they,do too and the whole staff is devoted to making that happen . Do you think they want you telling your friends Dr Whopplemeir and Blessed Confusion Hospital. are a,bunch of total idiots. Nope, they care about you but they also care a lot for their reputation and budget, every goes good, you praise them and the money keeps coming in. Something, goes bad and you tell people, the revenues fall off. Well that's how things go in the world these days. If surgery was such a fearsome thing I wouldn't be a candidate myself. Yep you heard right, I'm having surgery also. At the great or bad age of 72, depending on your viewpoint I will be receiving a RnY bypass at OSU in Columbus Ohio. And I sincerely believe it will make a wonderful change in my,life, I am being given a good chance of living long enough to be a nuisance to my family and the Western World. I came into third world screaming and with red hair, hair is still red and I'm not leaving without a fight. I still can influence the world🌏if I'm given a chance! Hang around, the best is yet to be, come watch with me!👍😛
