    Is this normal?

That's funny I felt the same thing during my first week. I drank 64oz of water like it was nothing and wondered if the doctor forgot to sleeve me. Wait another 2 weeks until you can finally eat, you'll see

    Late period...

    Anxiety Surrounding Eating

Here is what helped me: I ate 2 teaspoons every 2 hours. I am still unable to even eat 2-3 oz of food at a sitting and I had my surgery in November. Take your time, it is a new BABY tummy. They don't eat much when they are first trying foods either.
  4. Wow @ Thanks for the detailed reply. I have a few hundred questions. What is the plan going forward With the doctor? Like I know if i got it locally there is a 2 week checkup a 1 month check up a 2 month and a 6 month. How did you research the doctor Outside of here before you went? My problem is getting comfortable with the concept of Mexico and being so far from any emergency help . But my procedure is out of pocket etc So I will be going to TJ or Cancun not sure. Other questions are, How long did you have to take off work? and How long do you have to be by the surgeon?

    Set back?

I am 3 1/2 mos postop. I still have trouble with water. It feels heavy or something. I have better luck with cold crystal light lemonade or warm tea (not too hot).

    Sleeping sitting up

Same as above a slept in a recliner but I did it for 3 weeks as I am a side sleeper normally and would not have handled that (I tried after 1.5 weeks and went back to the recliner)

    New to lapbandtalk

Hello, I am kinda new to posting, so here it goes. I will be getting my band on 12/29/08. I am so excited and anxious. I have been in the process for amost 2 yrs. Mostly waiting for ins. approval. I have lost about 60 pounds on my own but still have a long way to go. I don't have a problem losing, mine is keeping it off. So I hope this band will help me stop this cycle.Looking soooo forward to a healthier lifestyle I had my 50th b'day in sept. I have 3 adult daughters and I think I have been a good role model for them except for my weight issues. I wish you success in your journey and hope my surg goes as easy as your did.

    The fill...who cares?

I saw a doctor other than my surgeon for maintenance, who said he'd remove all Fluid and measure it before putting any more in it. Knowing is important because it let's you and your doctor know how much of an adjustment can be made. Sadly, I had to go back to my surgeon for a fill, and, without knowing what was in my band, he added more. I haven't been able to keep food down, barely keeping liquids down, and I'm going back to get out of this red zone. Luckily, because it's within a week of my fill, they aren't charging for another one. I always wondered what would be the big deal if your band was too tight, you'd just lose weight faster. Uh uh. It's miserable. I can burp up Water, can't even keep down liquidy mashed potatoes. It's been almost a week of this, and i don't think he'll could be worse... Be informed, know what works, and encourage your doctor to do the same. Or find another one.
  10. Tomorrow will be two weeks post op and today I started my mushy phase. I was excited and nervous. Made myself a scrambled egg with a little 2% cheddar cheese on it. I was able to eat the whole thing, chewing slowly in about 15 minutes. It felt different going down than the shakes and liquids did, but it sure was yummy!! My stomach feels full, it feels a little different than it did after the shakes or broth. I am just sitting down for a while letting it settle before I drink some unsweetened ice tea with unflavored Protein in it and take my walk. I was expecting to only be able to eat half of the egg though?? I am not worried though, I am quite happy that I was able to eat it ok. I am going to try turkey and swiss rolled up for lunch and then the ricotta bake for dinner. We will see how the rest of the day goes. And of course in between I will be drinking my Water. I am just so blessed and happy that my recovery has gone the way it has so far. I only had trouble with one Protein shake I tried not sitting well with me, (but I didn't throw up) other than that all the shakes and Soups went down really well. I find I can drink my water at more reasonable rate, I don't have to take such little sips anymore. That I like. So I am hoping in this next phase I do as well. Come on Sherman (that is what my daughter named my new stomach) together we can do this!!

    Set back?

Wow that's so weird I too am feeling very suck to my stomach the way you described. I was sleeved 3/18. And the last two days have been very rough, I feel like any water is making it worse, but I know I have to drink it but don't want to. Am also on medication since hospital for nausea, but today at my desk I want to go get sick but don't want everyone to hear:(
  12. I am sure most of you remember the good banana pudding!! with the Nilla wafers and banana slices and sweet banana pudding? I just stumbled on to a tasty yet safe way to simulate it!! You'll need: 1 box sugar free Jello instant banana creme pudding 2 cups 1% milk (or whatever milk you can use) Apple Cinnamon Soy chips (I found Revival Soy Oh My Apple Pie in 1 oz bags) Make your pudding according to instructions on box. Than simply layer it with the Soy chips as you would use Nilla Wafers. Or if you are feeling lazy like I do, DIP THEM lol It's simple, it's sweet, and it has about 15 carbs 3 sugars and 140 calories. Plus the soy chips have protien 7 grams per bag!! I hope all enjoy!!

    Weightlifting questions.

I'm hoping to get back to the gym in the next week. It's been way longer for me since I've been in the gym due to health problems, but looking forward to getting back into it. NSAIDS are definitely a no-go anymore. There's way to much risk in getting an ulcer post-op. It sucks because I loved my ibuprofen as well. Tylenol will hopefully help a little. Stretching and hot showers used to help me get through it. DOMS is a b!tch...lol

    Weightlifting questions.

I'm the exact same way with muscle loss. I used to lift off and on, and I've never been this weak. The number 1 thing to deal with the soreness is to keep working out. Once you get used to it, the DOMS will only be bad when you increase intensity. My first week back, I hurt all over. After that, only bothers after a major workout, and it's never as bad as it was at first.

    Question

Fluids are more important than calories right now. All fluids count, not just water. Try some Gator Ade...it has electrolytes and some sugar to help give you a boost. Little meals eaten frequently is the key, but as long as you can get fluids in, don't sweat the nutrients too much right now. Your body has a store of nutrients that would take a few weeks to deteriorate significantly. Sip, sip, sip!

Alcohol? Hey Vegas Girls this ones'for you!!

I would be very careful with drinking so soon after your surgery. If you are eating mushy foods, a glass of wine might be all right. I wouldn't try it on an empty stomach, though. Your system probably won't tolerate as much alcohol as before surgery and it might still be extra sensitive. As far as drinking later on, it is not prohibited, but can irritate your stomach. The one thing that I held on to as long as possible was the early committment to eat right and follow my new banding plan. I hadn't even tried eating bread or noodles until this past month. (I am 4 months out.) Keeping that initial motivation going as long as possible has been very successful for me. Now that I have given myself permission to try more foods and treat myself occassionally, I have to fight the temptation to over indulge. Take it step-by-step and you will do fine with all the new choices you will need to make in the weeks to come.
  18. I thought it would be good if we shared Protein shake recipes. That way we could try new things to make Protein shakes taste better. Apple pie shake 8 oz. Water or unsweetened almond milk 1/2 scoop unflavored Protein powder, 1/2 apple powder from Mott's, 4 tsp of torani brown sugar cinnamon sugar free syrup Key lime pie shake 8 oz water or unsweetened almond milk or skim milk, 1 tsp of sugar free lime Jello powder, 1/2 scoop unflavored protein powder, 3 tsp of lime juice Orange creamsicle shake 8 oz water or unsweetened vanilla almond milk, 1/2 scoop protein powder, 1 tsp of sugar free orange Jello powder Peach pie shake 4oz unsweetened vanilla almond milk, 1 scoop unflavored or vanilla protein powder, 1 tsp of sugar free torani peach syrup, 1 tsp sugar free torani brown sugar cinnamon syrup

  20. Thanks for the encouragement. I'm not known for my patience! I was hoping for even a pound or two down just to give me that extra bit of hope. I feel tired all the time and I know my body is lacking in something to keep me alert, but I don't know what to do. I'm taking vitamins, B supplements, calcium and I'm very hydrated. I would think that my body would be content and was to get rid of some more fat, but alas it does not. I guess it's hard to evict a long time resident. I suppose I need to focus on my mid range goal of another 25 pounds by Christmas Day when we leave for a week of skiing and I have to fit into a new pair of ski pants that I bought a size too small. That is my main focus. My old ski pants aren't flattering, the new ones make my ass look good! Now if they'd just fit around my waist. Perspective- keep everything in perspective. I think I'll go out and get a manicure and go shopping today. I'm treating myself for the past two weeks that I have done well. I did lose 11 pounds after all. Better than gaining.

    Cleveland Clinic HELP

Hi Marsha, I had the exact same experience. I started the process in July. I was not able to get appointments until Sept for the Esophageal swallow. I live in Jacksonville so I have to fly down to Ft. Lauderdale. I then had a problem with Dr. Fromkin the cardiologist at the Cleveland Clinic who would not take my stress stest that was 367 days old... I fought with him for over 3 weeks. He demanded I retake my stress test which added another 2 weeks on... Then after I started calling in October I was told I would get the call back... meanwhile.. I was told about one woman being out with a family emergency then another one was getting married.. and I was told my date would be in February.. I blew a gasket because I was losing all my Insurnace benefits which were going to pay 100%... I wrote letters to Dr. S and to other staff members.. and I cried alot.. Then I was told I was on a waiting list and if I got the call I had to be down there.. just like someone waiting for a transplant... then I got the CALL... I was called last week and was told I had to be there the day before Thanksgiving.. see another surgeon.. not the one that was going to do me and see the anesthesiologist..and my surgery would be Dec 2nd.. like I really want to fly in and out of Ft Lauderdale the day before Thanksgivving.. the most traveled day of the year!! so... Now I am having second thoughts and am scared to death with all the negatives I have been reading... so.. hang in there.. February is not that far away.... I am in the twilight zone and don't know what I am going to do.....

Two days ago it was my birthday. I recieved a beautiful flower arrangement from our youngest son in NC. I also got a phone call from our oldest son, who's on TDY in Qatar. We got to chat for about an hour...so cool! Three days ago hubby and I went to my second support meeting at Wood County Hospital. This meeting was alot more interesting than the one in May. Any of the post-op patients who wanted to, were invited to go to the front of the room and share their story. Some also answered questions. I met a gal who had the VSG less than 1 year ago and has lost 150 lbs so far. Her mother, who was there, had a VSG one week before this meeting. Neither of them went to the front of the room. These meetings are almost exclusively discussions for the GBP patients. This is a little disappointing for me, as I want to learn as much as I can about VSG.

    pre-op diet

Carmen Perhaps if you know exactly why your doctor put you on this pre-op diet it might help you stick to it. I'v heard of diets to shrink your liver (1/3 of its size) to get the stomach easier, less complications during sugery. Try to hang in there, the band will help change life for the better.

tomorrow I start a new life...

Congratulations!! I would be excited too if my process had gone that quickly. Mine took about 2 months and I have been banded now for 1 1/2 weeks. It has definately been a experience. Be patient with yourself!
  25. Best to wait for surgeon's call back. There could be few factors, contributing: 1. age factor 2. previous back/disc problem 3. thyroid 4. prolonged lying in one position 5. surgery gas 6. drainage tube site I had my pain post surgery, in my left front/side due to large drainage tube. It eased off after drainage tube was removed. Some pain lasted for few days post release from hospital. My back pains (chronic on and off for years) are caused by previous tearing/injury, and my thyroid disease. With thyroid treatment these pains have majorly eased off. So, I hope the surgeon has called back by now (I am in a different time zone), and that your Mum is finally getting relief from her back pain. Best wishes
