Can't Get All My Protein In

Is it really "unflavored?" Does it have some flavor? I tried some of the nectar mixes and they taste like pure protein with a little bit of flavor =P Jess...Surgiversary 9/19/12

    2 weeks post op

I'm 10 days post op and I'm starving... I'm hoping once I get my first few fills this will subside... Also does anyone with polycystic ovaries still have a hard time losing the weight? That was always my problem and the medication that was given to me for this is also suppose to help lose weight becuz of the insulin resistance but this medication has awful side effects and I hate taking it... Ugh I hope there's light at the end of my tunnel.....
  3. :confused:Hi guys. I haven't been on this site in years. Sorry about that. I had LB surgery in Nov 06. The first 24 months I lost 50 lbs (which felt great). I would have been thrilled to lose 25 more and be done. I was too tight and had fill removed to be prudent. I have had at least 10 fills over 18 months and not getting appropriate restriction. Now I'm wondering if I have a leak as within 2 weeks of no restriction after last fill, there was less fill in my band. I was given more and asked to return in 2 weeks. If still no restriction, they will do fill under fluoro. So...does anyone have experience with leaks? I have tried to find info. Looks like if it's the band it's a big deal (replacement--but those are 5% of the time. The more common appear to be tubing or port. The port surgery seems reasonable and relatively simple. Help??? 8. It all depends on how we define "a normal human portion of food." Last night, hubby and I went to a restaurant with several adult grandchildren and a grandson's girlfriend who's from France. She ordered a "light chicken salad" and a glass of red wine. When her order arrived, we were all gobsmacked at the size of her meal. I apologized for the American-sized portion, and she said, "After living in the US for 10 years, I'm used to it. But it's at least four times the size of a French restaurant portion." And here's a timely article in this morning's New York Times with pictures about what 2,000 calories of some common restaurant portions look like: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/12/22/upshot/what-2000-calories-looks-like.html?emc=edit_th_20141223&nl=todaysheadlines&nlid=40256033&abt=0002&abg=1

    Band Has Failed

Hard chioce. The LB does have a greater risk of side effects, slippage, erosion, rejection. It's bound to have problems again, even if its 10 years from now. Sleeve is a good alternative to the GBP, lower risks as well. But you will have to weigh the pros and cons and decide from there. Hard chioce! Great job on lost thus far!

    New and Need Advice

I used Health One for my loan. It is 0% interest for 6 months and then is a fixed rate of 10% after that. I am trying to pay off as much as I can in the first 6 months, then I may transfer the balance over to a low interest major credit card I have. The interest on that is 5.2%. What will be your total cost for the surgery? I used Dr. Kirshenbaum in the Denver area. He only charges $9950 for everything. Many people travel there because they are self pay. Do you have a major credit card that you could charge $10,000 on?
  11. Hello, I am posting some before and after pics starting weight - 375 today's weight - 277 date of surgery 4-24-12 first two pics are my wedding day - 2/19/11 last two pics are me in the same wedding dress today 8-9-12 not posed the same way in the pics...but there is a very big difference
  12. My husband had a co worker who we used to go out with him and his wife like once or twice a month... since surgery I havent seen them.. even have invited them a few times. Its been three months since surgery and this weekend we are puppy sitting for their dog. (the dog is one of the puppys from our dogs litters) Last night they were supposed to come pick him up b 8:30.. well at 10:30 the call and say they got bumped from their plane.. HAH i know better cuz they had to volunteer or were late. So now.. its gonna be tonight, or tomorrow or whenever I guess! Boy sure can tell they arent my friends!!!!!!!!! I am so serious about it being only since surgery... before that things were soooo different. Oh yea.. and my older sister too ever since surgery *poof* funny thing is she wanted surgery and thought it was her big secret from my parents.. until her insurance denied her. we live in the same town .. last time I told her about a loop i her insurance company and she says to me, "well I decided I can do it the right way" HAH that makes me laugh harder cuz I've lost like 50 lbs (more i just dont want to stand on the scale) in three months I'm stoked and *getting* to the point I could care less. My life is whats better.. I know I can find new friends. My husband and I are 100x better than we were 50 lbs ago and that isnt his fault.. I'm different and I like myself more so it makes things easier.. plus I can actually HELP do stuff around the house without feeling like im going to die haha now just to get another job and I'll be set. =) ps... I tell everyone about my band. I am proud of my band and the short journey I have been on so far. I could care less what other people think and honestly what does it matter anyway? Anyone so nieve to think its "the easy way" is retarded... I think of it this way.. at least I took the steps to do something about my weight since obviously I couldnt do anything about it on my own.
  13. :help: Hello everyone;I would appreciate some input from experienced Lap-Banders as I am getting really discouraged. I was banded 4/17/06-had my 1st fill on May 31st. I think it was too aggressive a fill or else something got stuck because I was vomiting so9lids and only keeping liquids down. So the Doctor did an "unfill" backk to 2cc(10 cc Band)--I was hungry and had minimal restriction. Had a 2nd fill on July 5th under fluoroscopy with barium and all to 5cc.That was 6 days ago and again have been vomiting solids.Went to the Doc this AM and he removed 1cc-now have 4 cc in there. They said that should be just right. I have tried mushies and have been vomiting again. I like some restriction as the weight loss is good--total of 28 pounds so far--- but I know the goal is to be able to eat small amounts of solid foods and chew well and eat slowly and lose weight. Am I doing something wrong or is My Doc too aggressive with fills. My band area is sore from vomiting as is my throat. I am very discouraged. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.Judy
  14. I am in the same spot. I was banded on 9/15/06, I am not scheduled for a fill until 10/30/06. Is that a long time to wait until my first fill? Should I call the Dr. and ask for a fill sooner, Like 10/15???? What is a typical fill??? I feel like I have absolutely no restriction at all. I am not eating wrong things or eating alot. I want to lose, lose, lose.... Should I call my dr? Thanks Ladies & Gentlemen,
  15. RestlessMonkey

    Did I make a mistake

I just think you're lucky you get mushies at 10 days! LOL I got clear liquids week one, and then got to add in .... protein shakes! (oh wow) but no I agree with the others; if it didn't hurt and it was per your doc's dietary guidelines, then you're fine.
  16. I have always had a problem with overdoing when I exercise. I try to start small and work up gradually but I end up getting worn out and can't do anything for a week or more. This lady tells you how to build up after WLS. She said to increase the time by 10% per week. I hope this works for me. This is an excellent lecture for those new to the band or exercise. It is called "Lecture on Importance of Exercise Immediately After Weight Loss Surgery Weight Loss Surgery http://www.dynamic-progress.com/exercise-video-lecture/ http://www.youtube.c...t=FLFNut9fnDIMQ

    woes....

Hi I am Danielle and I got banded on Oct. 4. First 3 weeks were fine but as soon as I was able to eat real foods my appetite increased and I am still at the weight I was the day I got my staples Out which is 10 pounds lighter. I basically been dieting on my own but it is hard because the reason I got the lapband was to help my portions Cause once I get started a girl can GO, so its getting frustrating. My first fill is Nov. 14 hope things getting better

    I need Coffee!!

The only way coffee could stretch your pouch is if you drank 10 cups at a time or drank tons of it on top of eating food. Whether or not caffeine is bad for you is like everything else - there's good and bad in it. It actually has a protective effect against diabetes for example. Its jsut another case of moderation being the best way to go. Somethign I dont practice myself. I love my coffee. But thankfully we have decent instant coffee here so I dont guzzle huge quantities of high caffeine brewed stuff. My doctor is fine with coffee.

    Banded Today

Congratulations! I'm glad to hear things went smoothly for you. My surgeon gave written orders for me to walk 5 times a day after surgery. At first I was shocked at the expectation, but once I got into doing that, it was great!! I set a timer for when I needed to do a walk and would walk 10 minutes. (the first few days it was 5 minutes, but I quickly went up to 10). That is close to an hour walk a day! For me that is over 2 miles...which REALLY shocked me! One reason to keep moving is that it keeps your stamina up. Plus it helps with the removal of the gas they used to bloat your abdomin up during surgery. It also helped with my mood, giving me a sense of accomplishment since I couldn't do my regular activities. It helped structure the day! So, it's one idea I wanted to pass on to you. Walk every 90 minutes of daylight. Take good care of yourself while you focus on letting your body heal this first month. Since I was eating a lot less, I decided to buy all organic foods. Be kind to you. It's wonderful that you've provided this intervention on your own behalf! ~hiddn
  21. OK, so this is the story. I went to get a fill last week. My doc didn't have the right length needle, so she used a shorter one, and had trouble accessing the port because it was so short. She pulled out about 2cc's and that was all she could get. She put in 2.6cc's total (if indeed she was in the port) and I left pretty happy. I immediatley went to get something to eat to see if I had any restriction. NONE WHATSOEVER. I went back two days ago to get another fill. Same thing, longer needles hadn't arrived yet, and she tried to use the shorter ones again. She "thinks" she hit the port on the 2nd try. She tried to pull out the 2.6cc's but was only able to pull out .5cc. It had a little blood in it. So, can you pull .5 cc of liquid out of tissue??? I'm terrified that my band has a leak! She never was "quite sure" she was in the port with the shorter needle, so she told me to come back Friday, when the longer needles would be there, and she would try again. She was using a 1 inch, right angle Huber non-coring needle. I'm also scared about this....could she have damaged the tubing, and CAUSED a leak? I'm thinking if she couldn't reach the port, maybe she couldn't reach the tubing since it is at the bottom of the port... Any ideas???? 22. Okay, Went to my primary today and he's a pretty busy doctor and guess what? I'm his first lap band patient, okay only lap band patient. I went to discuss possibly going back on Metformin again because I had gained back all the weight I lost prior to surgery (25 lbs). I don't know if I broke my ticker or not, I think it's a little depressed though:huh2:. After speaking with the diabetes group here and also the PCOS group some thought that the Metformin might help but as my doctor pointed out when I was on Metformin prior to surgery it didn't affect my weight so why would it now. He wrote me a script for complete blood workup though. Anywho  tomorrow morning I meet with my surgeon for the second time since my surgery 8/07 and will be discussing my issues/probs and see what we can come up with. If I hear try another fill I may . My doctor thinks that since I still have the weight, the diabetes, the thyroid prob, PCOS, the sleep apnea that maybe I may possibly be a candidate for a reversal and/or gastric bypass. I wish he would call the surgeon and tell him to:smile2:. I had those few fill problems in the beginning with no fill because they thought I had the small band and then the 10 hour vomiting festivis (sp, from Seinfeld) and that was on 3/11 and haven't seen the surgeon since. He's a busy guy too and it's hard to get to see him for an appointment these days. So I'm going to ask for a flouroscope (sp) or whatever they can do to actually take a looksee at it in case it was damaged in some way or moved. Not that was the only time I have vomited but it was a major event.:tongue_smilie:(that's the closest one I could find to looking like it was getting sick). So wish me luck tomorrow, I've been a bit  for a while and don't want to give up but it's very depressing:sad::sad::sad::sad: and it's also:blushing: embarrassing. I feel like people must think I'm such a reject because I went through all of this to get the band and totally F'd it up!:frown:. I wish I could be like the rest of you and go through this with flying colors, I didn't expect a quick loss but I expected a loss and only gained:sad:. So anyway I talked long enough and I'm sure you all are pretty  so I'll go now, thanks brandyII.

    Lost-gain-lose again?

I'm not sure how much you (or whomever) regained, but it's very common for us to gain 10-20 lbs in year 3. It's a rebound - and most clinics wouldn't even count that as a true regain - it's more your body settling in to its new set point. Above and beyond that, yes, it would be a regain. Some people lose it, but it's a challenge (and it would be regardless - the closer you are to a normal BMI, the harder it is to lose weight - and that's everyone - not just people who've had bariatric surgery). I'm on a forum with several long-time bariatric patients (some of us many years out), and most of us have struggled with regain - and losing it again. It can be done, but it's a challenge.
