Hello, I didn't have a revision but I choose Bypass due to already having severe GERD. My surgeon explained that it was very likely my GERD would remain the same if not worsen and that bypass would likely reduce or completely cure it. Almost 4 months out it seems to have CURED IT! I have had no signs of anything acid reflux/GERD related. I was on 2 prescriptions plus eating tums daily. I am off of ALL GERD medications and have not eaten a single tums since surgery. I am so pleased about that because it was miserable! As far as weight loss, I have lost 73 lbs since surgery in a little over 2.5 months. I am 6ft tall. Stats are on the side panel too if people set them up. Good luck- I hope your acid issues are resolved! -

Hi everyone, I have a revision scheduled for 8/8 which is almost exactly 4 years after my VSG. I have had acid reflux the whole time and it’s been way worse the past year. As far as weight loss is concerned I only ended up losing about 40 pounds at my lowest and I’ve gained back about 15 of them. I am hoping for no more reflux and some additional weight loss. I know it’s slower the second time around but I’d love to hear your stats. Things like your gender, weight loss amount with revision, duration it took you to lose, reflux situation…. Me: Female, 43, 5’4” start of VSG: 255, lowest: 214 start of RNY: 228 (hoping to be at 220 by surgery date) -

agree with the others. Slower weight loss seems to be the norm with revisions. On top of that, you're getting close to a normal BMI. The closer you get, the harder it is to take weight off. You may just be in a long stall (they do seem to become more frequent and last longer the closer you get to a normal BMI), but if you want to keep going, you can always drop your calories. However, if your body is happiest at your current 179 lbs and doesn't want to go lower, it'll be a constant struggle to keep it lower than that (dealing with that myself....). It can be done - but it will be a struggle. I've kind of thrown in the towel at this point. My weight isn't as low as I'd like but it's acceptable. But still, there are days... -
Sleeve to RnY Revision

I'm curious if you did the sleeve to RNY revision. If so, when? I had it done the day after Thanksgiving 2021. Reflux was gone immediately. I've lost 60 lbs. I lost it pretty quickly, I'm maintaining for over a month now. I was a little freaked out having problems with stopping the weight loss. I did the same thing with sleeve surgery in 2010. I can eat often, but very little at a time. I struggle with meat, an ounce is safe, maybe 1.25 oz, after that, it will end up 'sitting' between my ribs and 9 times out of 10 I'll have to throw up to get relief. Surgery was in Nov, then after a sonogram and endoscopy I had my gallbladder removed in March. (They also discovered a very large marginal ulcer. (What the heck is that?) I had to take a liquid medication 3xs a day and they did another endoscopy 6 weeks later. Ulcer went from very large to large. Six weeks later another endoscopy showed it was healed. Now I'm just focusing on trying to not lose more weight. Gaining 10 lbs would be fine. I'd like to stop there and maintain just under 150. How realistic is this, maintaining from now on. Sadly, sweets and some fried meats (catfish, chicken fried steak) are easy to keep down, mashed potatoes too. I have to weigh meat, and sometimes then it still gets to me. What's up with that? Any advice, insight etc would be greatly appreciated. Share you story with me if you've had the sleeve to bypass revision. -
Hi, I too am a band to sleeve revision. I just got insurance approval today so they put me tentatively with a surgery date of August 2nd. I’m also an educator and start back to work on Monday. I’m really nervous about missing work so close to the beginning of the school year. I think I’m going to see if they can move the surgery up a little. I’ve already started the pre op diet so hopefully the doctor will agree.

Yeah, I’ve heard the same thing - comparatively a slower rate of loss post revision & less weight loss. And that they can eat more than they did in the early stages post their first surgery. Maybe because your tummy isn’t changed again with the revision just where it joins the intestines??? You’ll still experience stalls which is what this may be or you could have reached your body’s set point - the weight at which it is happy. -

I have heard on here that the weight loss is definitely slower after revision than the first time around. And it can sometimes be less than the initial surgery. But everyone experiences super slow loss those last few pounds. -
On 2/15/22 I underwent revision from VSG to RNY due to hiatal hernia and reflux issues. My surgery weight was around 230 lbs, actually a few less due to three days of liquid diet. In the 5 months since revision surgery I've lost about 40 lbs, but have been at a steady weight for over five weeks. I'm currently around 15 to 20 lbs away from my final goal. I had a post surgery follow up with the surgeons office and they just suggested I try to stay closer to the dietary guidelines. I probably was a little short on protein but in the couple weeks since have worked diligently to increase protein and reduce carbs. Yet the scale hasn't moved. Looking for experiences from others who had revision without a large amount of weight to lose. How did it go for you? Is this just a stall or my new normal? Should I expect to continue to lose, or am I pretty much at my new set point after five months? -
3/30/22 - Weight 317. This is the highest I've ever been. I call my fried that has had the sleeve and revision (Duodenal Switch) surgery. I set an appointment to meet with his surgeon on April 12. 4/12/22 - Weight 313. It's my first appointment with the surgeon. They weighed me at 316 lbs with clothes on. The doctor suggests the Gastric Sleeve. The staff explained the process is somewhat determined by my health insurance. I will need to see the surgeon for a total of 3 office visits (each one month apart), and we scheduled follow-up appointments for May 10 and Jun 10. I need to lose weight before each visit. They said if I think I have gained weight to call and postpone the office visit until I can show a loss. I also need: Blood Work, Medical clearance from my doctor, a Psych evaluation, clearance from a Cardiologist, a visit with a Dietician, and An EGD to examine my esophagus, stomach, etc. Yikes. What did I get myself into?

Worried about getting surgery

You are over thinking it as we all did, I had gerd before surgery I was on 40mg nexium as well as gaviscon liquid and tablets just to keep on top of it. I now take 20mg nexium and that's it and I am not sure I even need that but haven't been game to come off it yet. My surgeon said weightloss would help my gerd which it did. I have noticed the people who get gerd and revise to bypass also had a substantial weight gain as well. I have had zero issues with keeping food and drink down, had a few little omg I shouldn't have eaten/ drunk that so quick but after a few minutes it's all good and you don't do it again lol but honestly I a a week away from 12 months and I have zero problems. At the moment I am recovering from covid and I am suffering from lack of desire to eat or drink and have a bit of nausea but that's from covid not surgery. -
Hi all, I am working my way through my appointments to get my surgery. I am planning on the gastric sleeve as the bypass concerns me about internal hernia and malabsorption issues. I think the sleeve is the best choice for me, but I am concerned about chances that GERD will happen and I will be forced to get a revision to a bypass anyways. Have a lot of people had this issue? I am also worried about some horror stories I have read where people can't eat or keep food down or even eat. Are there a lot of situations like this? I'm probably overthinking a bit, but I know this is not reversible and I want to make sure I weigh all my options. Thanks for any help.

I’m not an august person - I’m having my surgery this coming Wednesday - but I saw in your post you are band to sleeve and I am too, I don’t find too many folks in revision forums having this so wanted to say hello! You are not alone! I fear that tremendously. I am having revision surgery, which means I’ve been here before (or something like this) and I lost over 130 lbs from my highest weight and have gained a ton of it back. Now my gain was pretty much due to the pandemic/getting COVID but I gained it none-the-less. I will say I personally am preparing for this surgery in a way I never could the first time around. These many resources did not exist when I got my lapband. But I joined this app/group for support and if we’re not supporting each other even through our worries and fears how supportive are we really being? So know you’re not alone or being overly negative, you can’t work through your fears if you don’t acknowledge them! And, you can make this work, it’s possible. And I believe it will happen for me, so there’s no reason for you to not believe it will happen for you. There’s nothing particularly special about those who succeed beyond their determination to use their tool and make themselves succeed.

Research Post-VSG/Sleeve GERD. It's a well known somewhat common side effect of the high pressure wls's. If a person develops GERD it sort of forces you to revise to RNY just to have a decent quality of life without GERD. -

I was gonna try fairlife but they’re in the middle of a scandal with how their treat the cows. So currently boycotting but I was sooo about to try it!!! I saw the peach drink online and I was going to buy it but it’s a pack of them and I was afraid if not liking it. My mom just did her revision same day as me. Maybe she will drink if I don’t like. I wish I would have done this before getting sleeves so I’d feel more prepared. -

I had the revision in August for gerd, and I still have the exact sentiments of wishing I just got the bypass in the first place. I think of that often. I was scared to do something "drastic"so I went for the sleeve. Had I known that it doesn't feel any different physically compared to the sleeve, and appetite is far more suppressed for me now... It would've saved me years of pain and sleepless nights from gerd. Most sleevers don't have the gerd side effect but unfortunately some of us are unlucky. Wishing you success. VSG to SADI revision in 2 weeks - what to expect?

I am going in for a revision in 2 weeks and hoping some of you may be able to tell me about your experience. VSG in Dec 2016, lost 70lbs and then got pregnant. Did not gain any back until COVID. I’m now 30lbs away from where I was at my initial surgery date. Has anyone completed this revision? What has your weight loss experience been? Is it a lot slower? I’ve heard many people have increase bowel movements? Have you found less restriction to make it more difficult to lose? To complicate everything my gastroscopy just revealed a significant hiatal hernia which will also likely be repaired at the same time. I’m glad they found it because I’ve had a lot of unexplained chest and back pain since my last pregnancy. I’m a bit nervous about the recovery though. Any info you can provide would be great! Thanks! -

Dont be afraid you can only ask for help I had a sleeve in 2010 on NHS and didnt lose much at all no matter what I did so 6 yrs went by and I went to my doctor and asked could I have a revision surgery I had 2 pr ops then covid hit and in 2021 I had a bypass but the surgeon told me I wouldn't lose more than 3 to 31/2 stone here I am 110 pounds lighter I weigh less now than when I had my son 39 yrs ago so dont be scared to ask for help especially if you have health issues goog luck hope you can get it sorted -
Big pain in one incision on day 3 post op

I’m on day three from having a revision surgery to take out my lapband, fix a hiatal hernia, and have a gastric bypass. I’m doing decently except for when I try to stand up from my bed or my sofa, the big incision on the right middle of my torso hurts like crazy. Burns, stings, sharp pain — more than just “sore” like the other incisions. It takes my breath away. I’m guessing this big incision is where my surgeon took out the port from the lapband and did most of the work, since it’s the biggest and most painful one by far. I don’t remember having one incision be this painful after my two other laparoscopic surgeries (appendectomy and lap band). Anyone else have something like this post surgery where one incision is far, far more painful than the others? If so, how long until the intense pain went away for you?
