SassyNanny replied to DuckieXD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Premier Protein drinks. costco is cheapest. I like Choc and Vanilla. Drink them cold or heated. I use GENEPRO unflavored powfered protein still. I mix it into soups, SF pudding, eggs, drinks etc. I get it on amazon. Since a serving is one Tablespoon it lasts a long time. I drank cranberry juice the first week post op. How can I take 70g of protein a Day HELP!
xochtlem replied to leonelbreton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Syntrax nectar, Isopure, and GENEPRO are my best friends. I just started puréed food yesterday and was able to get most of my Protein from food. For bkfst I made a green strawberry & spinach smoothie with coconut Water and a scoop of Genepro. Each scoop is only a tbsp and 30g protein. You can add it into anything, it's great. A lot of times I add it to unsweetened applesauce. Then for a mid-morning snack I used a Hillshire Snacking pack (grilled chicken bites) and puréed the chicken with the honey mustard dipping sauce. Each pack is 15g protein and 120 cal. It was delicious. lunch was a pack of lemon pepper tuna mixed with a couple tsp mayo, puréed. That was only about 123 cal and 18g protein. And dinner I puréed some grilled chicken and hummus, with a couple of pitted kalamata olives thrown in. That was about 200 cal and 20g protein. In between all of that I drink as much water or Syntrax Nectar (if I need protein) as I can. Some days I don't hit 64 oz but I try to get as close as possible. Syntrax makes it easier to hit liquid and protein simultaneously. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Easter... What the heck am I gonna do!?
SassyNanny replied to bigguy928's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved Nov 18. For thanksgiving I had a quarter cup of mashed potatoes thinned out with gravy to a soupy consistency. It was delicious after several days of sweet Protein drinks and juice. Of course it gave me the runs. For Christmas at 6 weeks out I had some mashed potatoes and a couple of bites of cheesecake. I loved the smells of the prime rib but had absolutely no desire to eat any. I go to restaurants with friends all the time. Last night before the theater we went to an Italian place. I ordered caprese salad. I ate a slice of tomato and all the slices of fresh mozzarella cheese with balsamic. My friends had full meals and lots of bread. No one even noticed what I ate or didn't eat. I had absolutely no desire to have bread and the only thing I felt jealous about was their ability to drink something while they are eating their meal. I'm not trying to be strong, I really have no desire. Once you realize how little you can eat you will find that no matter what your triggers are you can't do much about it. During the rare celebration times (3) I have had small amounts of cake. Baby shower I split a small cupcake with another guest. It didn't make me sick. It didn't make me crave sweets. If it did either of those things I would just skip it now. I swear I am not struggling with the desire. Who am I??? I love it. There is always something on a menu that will work so I can eat out and not feel stressed out. I've split meals with friends and then eaten half of my half. At 4 months I can eat a little more. Sometimes I can eat a small chicken breast in one sitting. I'm saving so much money on food it is unreal!! Good luck with the holiday. Whatever phase your Dr has you on just pick a food that fits that category. Scalloped potatoes? Eat your serving size of 1/4-1/2 cup and stop. I took my vanilla premier Protein Drink at Christmas and heated it up with a little nutmeg on top and felt like I was having hot eggnog. Try adding unflavored Protein powder ( I get GENEPRO on Amazon)to your Water with Mio or Crystal Light drops in it. No one knows that you aren't having a cocktail. Eat before you go and again when you get home to finish up your protein. You got this! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I prefer unflavored, so I can control the type and degree of flavoring. Currently my favorite is GENEPRO, but it does seem too good to be true. Otherwise, it's Syntrax. unjury is a close second, but Syntrax dissolves better. I have been flavoring my shakes with combinations of sugar-free/fat-free Jello pudding mix, cocoa, PB2, and spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon. I tried Torani syrups, but they gave me a headache. I've since ordered Monin syrups, but haven't tried them yet. You can also put the unflavored Protein powders in Soups and broth.

I had my surgery this morning (12 hours ago) and I feel fantastic
SassyNanny replied to newme1234's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great News! Take it slowly. Ramp up to the Protein and Fluid goals. If you need help with getting protein into things like applesauce, Soup or yogurt try GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. 1 tablespoon has 30g protein and 98 cals. I still use Premium protein (Choc and vanilla) premade drinks from costco. 30g 160 cals. Couldn't have kept my protein high without these 2 products. Best Wishes!! Newbies - how much liquids/protein are you getting in?
amandastearns replied to xochtlem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sassycat, I have not tried that but I always buy genepro (flavor and scentless) with 30g and add it to my fluids when needed. I've been having a hard time with protein and now my levels are low and required to get 105gm of protein daily. Adding this to my fluids really helps. I buy it on amazon and it can be added to anything! I also add it to my yogurt! -
Unflavored (or preferably flavorless) protein powders
careya123 replied to farooforever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've tried GenePro, Syntrax, and Unjury. GenePro is my favorite, but it does seem too good to be true. Unjury is fine, but my heart races when I use it. Have no idea why. Syntrax is my #2 favorite: it dissolves quite well before you even start stirring it. Go with Syntrax. -
Unflavored (or preferably flavorless) protein powders
Bufflehead replied to farooforever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used Syntrax Nectar. But the truth is, unflavored isn't flavorless (it's just protein without vanilla or chocolate or whatever added to it), and you are going to taste it, particularly in something really bland like cream of wheat. You'd probably be better off with chocolate or vanilla protein powder in your cream of wheat, since the protein taste is masked. I know a lot of people love Genepro and swear it is tasteless -- I personally think Genepro is a complete scam and if a reputable, independent lab tested it they'd find it was made of talcum powder and ground up houseplants, so I can't recommend it. -
I'm with UalreadyKnow! I just throw some unflavored genepro powder in my coffee and go! Good luck!

any tips for meals or how to add more protein?
SassyNanny replied to change4life's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think those 30g premium bars have 290 cal. The 15g ones are 190. That's a lot of calories and carbs so be careful. I have been adding GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder to a Water bottle I drink a few ounces out of and add Mio drops for flavor and shake it up. One tbsp is is 39g of protein. Water and protein...can't beat that. 98 calories. An omelet for Breakfast with the Protein Powder mixed into the beaten eggs gives me a jumpstart on the protein too. Today I added mushrooms and one oz of chopped deli ham and 1/4 grated cheese it was 228 calories and delish! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I think those 30g premium bars have 290 cal. Coffee and protein?
praying-hard replied to crazyplantlady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The RN from my doctors office uses Medical Grade Genepro, it's tasteless with 30 grams of protein. She said she puts it in her morning coffee. -
there has been a lot of discussions about genepros protein and it's small serving size. I haven't tried it so maybe I will get a sample or too. thanks for sharing.

Sami got her GENEPRO samples, she made a shake this AM, and loved it!!! No taste, no smell and does not change the consistency of what you add it to. You can also sprinkle it on your food! 1 Tbs, is 30 grams of protein!!! You have to google the site that sells it!! Genepro.com Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My RNY was Feb 16. The first thing I noticed was how my sense of smell was greatly heightened. I hate it. I can smell ANYONE'S breath within a few yards of me, and it is horrible. It truly and literally churns my stomach and gives me the heaves. My taste buds have changed as well, and Water tastes yucky. I have tried Propel plain with electrolytes, Polar, and am about to try Fiji. I do like Propel Grape for a flavor, but sometimes I want just plain old water. Crystal Light seems too heavy on taste now. I am also having troubles with Protein. I get nauseous still while drinking. I still only have 1 ounce every 15 minutes. My surgeon suggested GENEPRO, which has 30 grams of protein in 1 tbsp. However, every time I've tried mixing it into a drink, I wound up vomiting later.. I'm supposed to be eating applesauce, and blended Soups, but I'm actually scared to try them, since every time I try adding a new item, I get very sick. I know I can't take new things as quickly as my surgeon's handbook says, as far as the food stages. I obviously have to go slower. This is just so nerve-wracking! @@mBig If you do try Genepro, I would just caution that you should still only count it as 15 grams of protein. It's not physically possibly to fit 30 grams of protein into 15 grams of powder. Their argument is that your body absorbs their protein better, so it's the "equivalent" of 30 grams of protein. Since they aren't regulated by the FDA and there have been no third party studies to prove or discredit their claims, you should take them with a grain of salt. If they are right and your body doe utilize and absorb more of their protein, then all the better. But if they are wrong and you are actually coming up 15 grams short every day, that could add up to a large deficiency over time.

I saw all the posts about Genepro- I've heard this might be kind of a "scam" with fancy wording that may only deliver about 10g of Protein instead of 30. If everyone's healthy and feeling good then I guess it's alright, I'd just be careful. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I began adding GENEPRO Protein powder to my diet a few weeks ago, and have been pleased with it. One tablespoon scoop delivers 30 grams of protein, and it dissolves very well into both hot and cold drinks without adding any flavor or aroma. I don't know if it's a matter of causation or just correlation, but I broke my five week stall shortly after adding it to my daily diet. I've read mixed reviews on here with some saying it doesn't deliver on its promises, but the majority of others raving about it. For me, it's been beneficial and I plan on repurchasing. I'll post the link in case it is of interest to you: http://www.amazon.com/Musclegen-Research-Genepro-Medical-Servings/dp/B00K6OSDYA/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1457587782&sr=8-1&keywords=genepro+protein

Add either GENEPRO or unjury unflavored Protein powder to yogurt, applesauce, Jello, Soup, and thats an extra 30gms of protien. My program calls for 80-100gms a day of protein, and this powder has been great. I still use it and I am 7 months post sleeve. -
How can I take 70g of protein a Day HELP!
amandastearns replied to leonelbreton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could t get with the isopure personally but it's worth a try! Also, I have genepro protein it's tasteless and flavorless so you can add it to just about anything for the extra protein. It comes in handy! -
I bought GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder from Amazon. It changes the color, consistency, and taste of liquids very little, so you hardly know it's there. You only need to use 1 scoop for 30 g of protein. There are no fillers or Vitamins. I mix it with 1 cup of 1% milk or unsweetened almond milk, and 2 tsp of Jello sugar free dry pudding mix. My current favorite is banana cream, but I've also had chocolate and vanilla. They are all great. I also mix the Genepro with homemade chicken broth, which is amazing because it just tastes like homemade chicken broth.

I've been stalled a month please help!
yerawizardamy replied to DrewzWife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you have myfitnesspal? I really suggest using it for about a week, see where you're at and if you can find anything that You should improve on (getting more protein/water/calories/less carbs). Do you have easy access to your nutritionist? When I was in my stall, I sent all of my logs on myfitnesspal to my nutritionist to have her look over them and give me her assessment. Naturally, she said I needed more protein. Either way, it's a good idea to really try and utilize the nutritionist as much as possible. Also, genepro protein powder has 30g per 1 tablespoon - it's amazing! Amazon has it. Check it out, it may help you more than you realize.
