Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
Jai D replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Try using Genepro. It’s the unflavored protein powder and can be added to anything. I add it to my protein shake but don’t just add the powder. First dissolve the powder in a small amount of room temp water then add to your protein shake. 1 scoop is 30 grams. I’ve been using 2 scoops plus the protein from the shake helps get your protein intake up there. Im noticing many surgeons give different instructions for the post op diet. I did days 1-3 on clear liquids, now I’m on full liquids (pudding, drinkable yogurt, jello, water, sugar free ice pops, broth, etc) , however I snuck in some ricotta with some drained picante sauce on day 7 post op and I handled it pretty well. My tummy felt different but so far nothing has made me sick. I’m so ready for real food like egg salad and an English muffin and I haven’t even technically hit purée phase. My purée phase allows smashed up chicken but 7 days later (day 21) I can go to soft foods. The ricotta cheese w/picante helped me to feel satisfied, not just full, which was a treat. -
Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?

Hi there - First post ever! I had surgery on the 15th of December, released from the hospital on December 16th. Feel pretty good - but having a lot of trouble with the protein requirement which is making me very tired and weak. I hate the shakes and got permission from my surgeon to drink the protein water instead. Now I'm beginning to develop an aversion to that. I go back to the doctor on the 27th. I'm hoping - hoping! - he'll release me then to start eating soft foods. I'm still on liquids only. How quickly were you able to eat soft foods? I see a lot of people eating eggs and yogurt far more quickly than the 2 weeks I've been told. Also, how soon do you start to feel...."normal" again? I just feel so weak and fuzzy. -
I have similar kinda profile though low calories for now because of the full fluid phase. I just spoke to my dietician today and I think she's okay with my Carbs and fats profile. On our program, we have to get all our proteins from whole foods and since I am vegetarian, most of it comes from dairy products like milk, yogurt and cottage cheese. And dairy products come with good amount of carbs. Hence my carbs and protein profile looks more or less similar. Because no protein powder, I think my carbs won't be as low as other programs. So hopefully it works for me as I continue with similar trend.

I do not like cottage cheese but if you like savory you could maybe add some ranch seasoning to it?? I add that to plain Greek yogurt and it’s a great dip for veggies but while I was on earlier stages I would just eat a teaspoonful to have something savory.

Thank you!!!! 💛💛💛💛I actually never thought that eating would ruin my weight loss. I would love to eat more. I’m honestly not hungry at all. I haven’t begin to feel hunger yet. I have to set alarms to eat. My surgery team told me that I don’t have to eat more, just make a few tweaks to what I am eating. For instance, adding peanut butter to my apple sauce or yogurt to get the calories up. Or adding low fat Mayo to my tuna instead of just eating it with a little pepper. I do eat 5-6 times a day. I think when I’m completely healed, I might start to feel hunger and be able to get more in.

My program requires me to drink 4 ounces of protein shake between meals for a total of 12 ounces. For meals I am having chicken broth, light yogurt, Lactaid

What phase are you in right now? May help us all give better suggestions. I think at 3 weeks post op I was still in the FULL LIQUID stage. Possibly moving into the PUREE stage but I know each person and plan is different which is why I asked what stage you are on. Having said that, in my LIQUID stage I was consuming: Protein drinks, broth/cream soups, sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello and pudding and yogurt. In my PUREE stage I ate things like ricotta bake, refried beans mixed with a lil shredded cheddar and sour cream or a little spicy guacamole, yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, etc. Some of these things are just as inexpensive as Ramen and will most likely meet your protein needs better and keep you full longer. But of course if you've already bought what you could and can't spend anymore for now then it is what it is. Just keep some of these other suggestions everyone has given you in mind for when you can make an additional purchase of food in the future. I wish you the best of luck!!

An option for a low cost, high protein low fat meal during your rough patch can be canned tuna, chicken or salmon. I put the tuna and chicken with a teaspoon of mayo and 2 teaspoons of greek yogurt with some onions, celery etc. It is really satisfying as a meal, very high protein, and only about 150 calories.

November Surgery Buddies!!!

Sleeved 11/29 Down 20 lbs at one week appt. Started on soft diet. On soft diet 2 weeks- down 10lbs. So far so good. I noticed that I fell back on my Water once I started on the soft, and I could tell. So I worked on that and back up. I'm comfortable at 3-4 ounces of Protein but that's as far as I can get. I'm severely lactose intolerant so I can't eat "regular greek yogurt". But I found this yogurt by Ratio its Keto friendly and it doesn't bother me at all.its a thicker consistency and definitely filling. 4 oz and I'm done.. I use Isopure for my Protein Shakes it's whey isolate and doesn't bother. I can use Atkins but not everyday. It's a process learning what works and what doesn't. Definitely not boring!! [emoji23] I went back to work on 12/20 and was exhausted. Today was a little better not so wiped out but still tired. I hope everyone has a blessed holiday. Nannette -
Hello, I had sleeve on 12/16 and my weight has not moved much and today I noticed it's back up 3lbs. I lost 13lbs on pre op but nothing after surgery. Is this normal? I'm feeling discouraged. I've been on full liquids. I get my protein in the form of shakes and yogurt. It's hard to get fluids in but I am doing that too. Any advice or help? Pre Op Liquid Diet - surprisingly doable
Sunnyway replied to ladygodiva's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is on December 21 and today (the 19th) I started the "clear-liquids only" prescribed. I can have clear-liquids only tomorrow and then nothing after midnight with surgery the following morning. Fortunately, my clinic is pretty liberal about what is a clear liquid. I can have coffee and tea (no milk or cream), low-cal fruit drinks like Ocean Spray Diet 5, broth, sugar-free fruit-flavored drinks and sugar-free sports drinks, plus sugar-free Popsicles and sugar-free Jello. I made up three batches of the Jello to have on hand. I'm drinking a cup of one of these clear liquids every hour and so far am not hungry. I will have one day of clear liquids in the hospital post-surgery, then start full liquids the second day in hospital, continuing at home through day 7. Full liquids will include strained cream soup, milk, greek yogurt, vegetable juice, Cream of Wheat, broth. Mid-morning, mid-afternoon, and evening, I'm supposed to add 4 oz of high protein drink. Good luck to you, Surgery Buddy. See you on the Losers' Side! -

I had mines in the 10th. Each day gets better but I’m struggling to finish my protein drinks. I got a few sips in and my stomach began to feel like an alien was crawling out of it. Needless to say, I threw up the shake 😏. I’ve been trying to incorporate yogurt but I start to get those pains and I stop. I’m going to stick to broth, water and small amounts of protein shake but I just ordered a protein supplement where each shot is 18g of protein. I may be doing this until I can tolerate a shake. Good luck and I’m happy to know your tolerating stage 3 purées. That’s a big accomplishment!! ☺️ -
I make rolled oats in my instant pot and portion it out in one eighth cup servings. When I eat it, I usually mix it with a spoon of fat free Greek yogurt and a few frozen blueberries. I’m getting ready to make some more and freeze it since the portion size is so small. I started eating it at the purée/soft stage. I use Souper cubes for freezing foods in small portions.

Good evening, I just came back from my run, it was pretty good. 4miles out and back i worked from home so i spent much of my day thinking about cookie dough LOL FML i am trying to kill the fat girl that lives within, I had 2 protein shakes,1 protein bar, some crackers (say 4/5), and 2 low calorie chocolate flavor yogurts, two cubes of lamb 4cm x4cm, about 3ltres of water and a lot of coffee so thinking about 1200 calories or so, which is a lil high but w.e will weigh tomorrow and see what its hitting for, hoping to wake up under 180. My dr has you take a lansoprazole capsule with your first meal. I’ve been doing this everyday and haven’t had any problems with an upset stomach. When cleared for mushy/soft food, I had an egg with cheese for breakfast or a couple of spoons of oatmeal with a little yogurt.

I'm normally (pre-surgery) a steel cut kind of girl, but post surgery I have switched to rolled and quick oats (I mix these in with yogurt and let them sit a bit to bulk up my snack with some extra needed calories). I just was not sure I could handle steel cut in the first few months after surgery. At some point I'll try them again since I prefer the texture by leaps and bounds. One advantage to the non-steel cut oats is cooking times... so much quicker!

Yep, me too. Not a breakfast eater and never was…even pre-op. My first meal of the day is generally after noon. But I do have my coffee (black) soon after I wake up in the morning. Oh, but in the early months after surgery, I used to eat a tablespoon of yogurt to help my calcium pills go down easier…if i didn't, i’d get all sorts of stomach cramping cuz my stomach was empty. Am 3 years out now and the no-breakfast eating seems to have had/have no effect to my weight loss nor maintenance. Good luck! ❤️

Scheduled for Jan 12th and getting cold feet. Is VSG "worth it"?
OutdoorsGirl replied to JennyO526's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m at 6 weeks now and would definitely do a cruise. You’ll be able to eat yogurt, oatmeal, ham and eggs for breakfast. The lunch and dinner buffet and menus will have lots of options for protein and vegetables…especially fish. You’ll be full after a small portion. I haven’t been eating salads because I don’t feel ready for raw vegetables and hard fruits like apples. I would skip dessert, bread, and alcohol. You could bring some protein powder in case you’re low on protein with the small portions. With the pre diet and surgery, you would probably be down 25 pounds by your cruise. -
Thanks for the reactions much better food day today, weighed this morning and a disappointing 185lbs, i used to weigh daily and im going back to that, i think its better for me to keep tabs on my weight. My scale broke about 3months ago when a friend came to visit, and i replaced it about 6week later, it said id gained about 5kg and i thought it was wrong LOL. Todays food was protein shake, protein meal (like space food), chicken (A LOT), low fat yogurt and a half a mars bar, 3 crackers and a lollypop. Calories should be about 1000 for the intake. I had about a litre of water, and about a litre of coffee. ill be going for a run shortly, 3 to 4miles maybe i realize i eat because im bored, im working from home because of covid and currently in the UK, nothing really going on out here. will write again tomorrow, im buying myself a gucci bag at 10lbs weight loss because i need the bag and body.

I made puréed hard boiled eggs thinned with yogurt and skim milk. I still have a bit of a funny feeling in the same spot but not enough to stop me from eating. Thanks for much for helping me find a way to eat something that isn’t protein shakes! ❤️

3 Meals vs. 6 "Meals"
summerseeker replied to LouLouM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In the Uk its not as usual to use chemically sweetened drinks as America. A glass of milk with added dried milk powder or yogurt, whizzed in a blender with a banana and peanut butter seams to me to more natural and wholesome and at a fraction of the cost. It is wrong of you to bring doubt and misinformation into any ones plan for recovery. I have full faith in my team. They have me for the next two years. -
9 days PO VSG- Hunger? Reflux?
Sunnyway replied to DarkSoul's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Those you describe (cramping, painful, and makes all sorts of noises( gurgling, sounds like growling) are not hunger signals. Hunger signals are totally different post surgery than they may have been prior to surgery. Just keep up with your protein and fluids on schedule and you'll be fine. If you have insatiable craving, have a 1/4 C of fat-free Greek yogurt. If you are consuming a brand of yogurt with fruit that contains sugar, you may be getting cravings because of the sugar. The sooner you go sugar-free fat-free the better off you will be. I'm surprised that your surgeon opted for the sleeve knowing that you have reflux. Gastric bypass usually resolves reflux and GERD. -

Avocado and prawns. Dhal. sloppy scrambled egg, refried beans. egg salad, tuna salad, yogurt, milkshakes. By adding stock or low fat mayo or yogurt to the above to make them as runny as you can manage. Good snacking
