Miralax vs. Milk of magnesia or others? Help.
R.Smith replied to Gaelsmom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had surgery July 27th. Still can't go with out taking something. Also I feel like my bowels just are not working right anymore.... TMI but like I don't have any muscle to go. -
I used to wonder that as well. Today I am 7 weeks post lower body lift. With the binder I have to wear I can't wear a bra or underwear (sorry if TMI). But you can't tell by the clothes I wear. So today after my shower I tried on for the first time some low cut panties I bought prior to surgery. I truly started crying because they fit like they should on my newly flattened tummy. I always had a large roll that caused a gap and the tops of panties would roll under my "roll". This was not an easy surgery or recovery. But for ME it is worth all of the money, time and pain. Even though I had to apologize to all of my good friends for the pic I took and how I elated I was when I texted it to them! ????

What Foods are Prone to Dumping Syndrome?
snickysnack78 replied to Sunshine3073's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
The only thing that has made me dump so far are baby raw carrots. Worse thing ever. Not to give too much TMI, but its a bad feeling when you are throwing up carrot and you can still feel it in your throat afterwards.. NO BUENO! -
Had my surgery on 9/1/15. --Arrived at hospital at 9AM --Registration done and arm band applied by 9:15AM --Off to Lab for pregnancy urine test by 9:40AM --Back to lobby waiting for nurse --Pre Op nurse came for me about 9:50AM --Changed into hospital gown --Vitals and medical history taken --OR nurse came with same questions --Surgeon came in to explain what I should expect --Anesthesiologist came in to take medical history --OR anesthesiology nurse came with more questions --NP from surgeon office came in to discuss post op diet and medication --Wheeled to OR by 1PM --I do not remember anything after that --Woke up in room nauseated as hell. --Started sipping Water from the medicine caps but I just kept throwing up --Walked around the floor 2 times --Discharged at 11PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 2 ===== --Stayed in bed nauseated and in pain --Got my nausea medication and felt much better --Difficult to keep stuff down Day 3 ===== --Feeling better --Sipping water --Having popsicle --TMI (Passing gas) --Belching so much. --Sat up and did this Day 4 - Day 7 ========== --It has been hard to get the 60g of Protein but I am getting in at least 30g --Walking around comfortably but there is that gravity pull on the incisions that kind of hurts --I have been having plenty of sugar free popsicles --Stopped taking pain meds already --Occasionally taking the anti nausea and vomit med...as needed --Enjoying shower, the glue on the incision is still on. Day 8 ==== --(TMI) finally had bowel movement, was about to start taking milk of magnesium! --Down 10lb since surgery day --Planning on thickening my fluids (soups) a bit from today --Definitely worth all the pain that seemed like would never end. Hang in there, I can definitely say it gets better everyday.

Lapband and social life
pink dahlia replied to tinamarie81's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tinamarie, I forgot add something about eating /dating. Im not single, but if I was dating , and dinner plans came up I wouldnt say anything about WLS either. Tmi for a 1st date, etc. However, the few times someone's commented about a small appetizer ive orderd as my whole meal ( and sometimes I can't finish that !) I just casually tell them that I ve had some stomach issues , and that eating small amounts slowly every few hours is better for me. No one cares, we move on to other topics, and if a guy is really interested in you he's not going to care about your eating habits ! He's going to be wanting to talk and have a good time with a healthy, confident, attractive lady ! You !!!! Just sayin ' ! -
Any May 26th Sleevers out there?
mtraverse replied to scoutmom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am doing great!!! Was sleeved in May 26th. Three month follow up was on Friday. The surgeon who I saw(not mine.????) told me I have lost 65% of my excess weight and he was saying I was doing good but then corrected himself and said very good. He doesn't give compliments easily, so it was a big booster and made me feel so proud of me! It def. put me into such a great mood and really revitalized my eagerness and excitement about surgery! My NUT also said I am doing great but she says that all the time. Love her! Have had a couple terrible eating days throughout this journey so far. Both directly related to period week. ( TMI) but I managed to regroup and recover from both. It is very challenging mentally to do that to myself. I need to learn so much still. I am excited I get to eat salad again, been a long time. Had one on Friday night in fact! It was Fabulous!!!! Downsides for me have really been mental. I physically feel great! People are forever complimenting me which is so sweet! My brain still needs to catch up to what I am doing! Hope you all are doing well, feeling well and losing all you expected. Btw I was 255.6 on my first visit with doctor a year ago. SW was 204.7. And CW is 165.4. 90lbs total and almost 40 since surgery! Getting closer to my goal daily/ weekly/ monthly!! -
So I'm 7 months post op and the last 5 days have been super annoying. First it started with the worst smelling gas ever (tmi I know). Then it was a gurgaly stomach with tons of gas. Now it's burning in the stomach!! Any opinions or suggestions would be very cool!

Stuck and severely depressed. Need help.
meyouus posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. I'm 3 1/2 months out. Lost 40 lbs before surgery and 30 lbs post-op (month and a half) then absolutely nothing. I've been 305 for two months almost. It's like my scale is stuck. Probably I am. I must be honest, I don't think I'm getting enough Protein in on some days, most of the time I'm spot on. I drink like a fish. Water, diet green tea, decaf (yes, I subtract that from my daily intake), Propel, herbal tea, decaf tea. Drinking is no problem. I eat a cup, cup and a half of a protein laden meal at meals, but I do not eat my recommended Snacks all the time. t's really hard to eat. My NUT said something about Grehlin and that my appetite will return. But I'm out 3 1/2 months, when will I start losing weight! Should I go back on liquids for a week? Or fast for three days? Or what? All you guys are losing massive amounts of weight, and I am literally stuck on 305. I feel like this surgery was a flop. I feel like a failure. I lost enough weight that my Pulmonologist took me off all forms of supplemental oxygen. THATS awesome! I'm trying to walk the halls at work without my Rollator, and I'm doing better. No where near normal, but better. I walk kinda funny. My coworkers know I had the rny, and are waiting for me to lose all sorts of weight, but I'm not. I'm embarrassed and ashamed. If I were gaining, I'd have something to look at, but I'm not. I have NO food sensitivities, no dumping. However, if I eat to fast or not chew enough, I throw up the stuck food. No diarrea. No constipation. TMI here: my bowel is always a light beige, if that means anything. Doc put me on an anti-gall stone med last month. Its supposed to be for 6 months. Help? I'm stuck and severely depressed. -
Getting Nervous!
wantingabetterlife replied to sbagby1960's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
TMI, I've had the hemorrhoid surgery too and believe me....if you made it through that, you can easily handle this! It was far worse than VSG. -
I'm trying to get more informed everyday before my surgery on Thursday, but all this talk of dumping and frothing are really making me nervous! It feels like the more I know, the less I really do! I guess you just have to experience it yourself. ( TMI) I've had hemorrhoid surgery, and after that, I believe I can handle this. I'm also afraid my family is going to get sick of this process before it's over.

I was sleeved on mon the 24th. I did clear liquids tue and wed. Full liquids day 3 to 7. I have had some cravings for real food then take a bite of anything or drink and craving goes straight away. Had a couple dreams of eating and worring that I ate too much of thw wrong thing!-lol I'm doing pretty good getting protein in. I've added extra sugarfree flavoring to premade premier protein shakes that have 30 grams protein each. Definately hard to not drink fast when you feel thirsty. Probably tmi subject but I think belly pain feel a lot better if things started moving! Any thoughts on that?

Unexpected Period during strict 2 week liquid diet.
theother_onefoot replied to melissa0218's topic in The Gals' Room
The two week diet actually made my body freak out too where I was just kind of bleeding but enough to require feminine products (sorry, TMI?) and subsequently made this period technically 17 days long. How miserable! So I had surgery when it was still the end of the cycle -- thankfully, and yes, dealing with tampons was a pain. Especially with having to pee so much from the IV fluids. Just hope your body gets this period completely out of the way before surgery! (: -
Any August Sleevers?
Awjones28 replied to DrewzWife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lol!!! I'm home ! Virtually pain free. My 2yo keeps trying to touch my stomach . I have the On-Q pain catheter in the larger incision . I can take it out on Friday or before if I feel so inclined. That's the only thing that really aches besides the gas. TMI , but I can't pass it!! I've been walking every 2 hours but it's a no go. Oh well. Time to finally lay in my own bed and try to get some rest since there was no rest to be had at the hospital. They get you up every 2-4 hours to walk. Plus all the usual poking and prodding. It starts about 6 hours after recovery. I'm excited about this new journey! Yours is coming soon! -

Finally got my surgery date! August 17th
Margie122 replied to Margie122's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Guys, I don't know how you went back to work today. I'm still so wiped. You must be made out of VERY STRONG STUFF! I am struggling to get in all the water, it's a real chore. The other struggle is the vitamins....vitamin with iron at breakfast, wait 2 hours calcium, wait two hours another vitamin with iron, wait two hours another calcium, and finally after another 2 hours another calcium. This is in addition to getting in enough protein. It's exhausting - mentally and physically. GOOD NEWS (and maybe TMI) but I now can say I am no longer constipated! WOO HOO. What a relief. I did two days of Miralax. It wasn't painful, thank goodness. I'm just wondering if I should keep the Miralax up or wait? I'm not on any heavy pain meds. I might just see what happens. I did some walking today. I also got a ride up to a place called "Nashua Nutrition" in Nashua, NH that just sells bariatric shakes, bars, vitamins, etc. I bought some cream of "broccoli" soup, and two boxes of hot chocolate. One is regular hot chocolate, and the other is "assorted flavors" like mint, etc. I thought it might be nice to have a hot drink in the morning. I'm getting a little tired of drinking/eating sweet things. At least I will be able to add more savory stuff in 10 days when I meet with the NUT. Hope everyone is doing well. -
Help ! I haven't pooped in 7 days!
jcrob replied to jcrob's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm am passing plenty of gas ! I am drinking all my fluids and my stomach tells me that I need to go and I can almost feel it back there but I won't come out ! Sorry for the TMI I am walking everyday ! A mile are more everyday. -
I know this may be TMI but, I feel like my breath is gross. I should call my surgeons office, but I was just wondering do any of you chew sugarless gum or suck on sugarless mints ? I am afraid to get to close to anyone LOL

So I am about 2.5 weeks post op and over the weekend I have been itching all over my body. My forearms, legs, neck, even groin (sorry, I know it is tmi). I have a rash on my neck but I don't see a rash anywhere else. I just itch intensely. I'm getting well over 64 oz of fluid. My lips are also a little swollen and I have bumps on the bottom lip. I thought it might be a Coldstream but it isn't presenting like one. No constriction of airway or throat. So it doesn't seem to be anaphylaxis. Anyone else have these issues post op? I've got a call into my surgeon's office bit thought I would ask here as well. Thank you for any input!

Finally got my surgery date! August 17th
TLCRC3SexyMom replied to Margie122's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah back to work tomorrow as well. I am setting my click earlier so i can get all my vitamins in before I have to get kiddos (1 and 4) ready for school. I have only my liquid pain meds at night so I can turn over without the pain(pulling). I was shocked that I actually was asleep on my stomatch. Working on getting these liquids(water) in along with my protein shake(EAS). I was surprised that these past 2 nights I have been getting hungry. I warmed up some miso soup about less than a 1/2 cup and felt full. I tried out my cup with a straw today and I don't get gas as quickly but I still take my liquid gas -x. Honestly I would rather burp than pass gas.. (TMI sorry). Hubby goes in on 9/21 so he is watching me like like a hawk. He really has been wonderful. I am going back to the gym tomorrow so I will you guys know how that goes. Overall today was 8/10. 10=good day. This has really helped me so much. -
TMI Warning 6days post op - diarrhea
swoman2 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was doing really good until last night. I had explosive diarrhea. Last night was awful! I'm still on clear liquids, so I only had broth, SF Jello, SF Popsicles, and crystal light but for some reason I had this episode last night. Has anyone else experienced this? -

TXTinana replied to Margie122's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Another TMI bit perhaps, to top everything off this week I just got my period about a week and a half early. Maybe that explains why I have been a little extra crampy today :-/ -
Finally got my surgery date! August 17th
Margie122 replied to Margie122's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone. I'm still in the hospital and will be discharged tomorrow. Looking back at some of posts when I first got here....I can't believe the misspellings, etc! I blame it on the drugs I was given ???? The plan is to make sure I can tolerate taking medication orally rather than by IV. I feel so much better now. Although I wish I could go #2 (sorry if TMI). I'm not in pain with constipation but I would like to go. I am not weighing myself yet. I'm going to weigh myself when I see the surgical team for my first post-op appt on 9/3 -
Ok this may be tmi for some but I'm freaked out because I have my period and my surgery is tomorrow. Can I wear a tampon? Is this going to a problem with the catheter? I have PCOS so my periods are unpredictable and I had no idea I'd get it now. :/

Converting from Sleeve to Bypass?
superslim replied to snowkitten's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I will be four months out on the 23rd. I had a rough start not because of the surgery itself but because I got pneumonia and became serverly dehydrated was basically miserable the first month. That being said, I've lost 30 lbs (which puts me 10lbs from my goal) It's slow but that's expected. I can eat anything/everything and my portion size is really much larger than it should be for someone who has had 3 surgeries! But it's the mgb that keeps me losing. Nothing and I mean NOTHING I eat stays with me too long. I'm in the bathroom A LOT! sometimes as many as 8-10x a day. It's worse when I make bad food choices but really with a 9' bypass even good foods pass through pretty quickly. I've asked others and not everyone expereinces this and it's not really dumping (though I have had that too) because I don't get sick with it or sweat or stomach cramps at least not often. Hope this isn't TMI but it's worth knowing I think because I wasn't prepared for it to be like this! I will try to answer any specific questions you have... Who is doing you surgery? My same surgeon is doing my surgery in Belgium, paid by myself like yourself, Been doing a lot of research on it and I think it's the way forward for me I'm scheduled for October 12/15, I can't give up now I've been through too much, sleeve didn't work for me band did but way too much trouble even thou I loved it,so I take it you are happy you went ahead and got bypassWow, your story really does sound like mine! Yes, I'm happy, no regrets so far. Haven't had my labs done though but I am taking my Vitamins. The weirdest thing for me is that even though most days I literally have no restriction and can eat average portions, sometimes i get stuck and it feels exactly like it did with the band! Small bites and chew chew chew has always been a struggle for me that sounds good to me as long as it works, I expect life change with wls and I'm prepared for it, I have no problem chewing or staying on mash foods forever lol, do u feel hungry at all?
