    August Exercise Challenge

oh ceradad - that makes much more sense. i had an appt as well w/my PA this am, and well i need to eat more...so i had .2ccs taken out. i ate more yesterday than i had in a while, and todays workout went well w/out me feeling like a SLUG. today - 1 1/2hr trainer sesssion: 40 min run/walk (5min run/1min walk - so on) plus ladder drills & sprints afterwards back/shoulder weight training - apparently i have bad posture; so "we're fixing that"....:smile2: ab routine PS - ceradad - great year, really!!! & for me ...i dig the NSV's just as much as scale victories...congrats!
  2. Ok, so like many people, I have a birthmark. Mine is a mole tucked so far up my thigh I have literally only seen it when contorted, and it has never seen the sunshine. So today I am wearing some silly underwear which fasten at the crotch, and after I pee I am hopping around trying to re-fasten things, when I see myself in the mirror (dont allow them at home), and notice a new mole on my leg. I'm at an age where these things happen so wasn't thrown, until it occurred to me that it was a familliar size & shape! So I check it out, and as the lbs have shifted so has my birthmark!! What was once very hidden is now sat at the top of my leg clearly visible, even in granny knickers! A very odd, and unexpected NSV!

Congrats! I know how wonderful the feeling is. I think the NSV motivate me more than the scaled victories. Melissa Lea

Back from Vegas with an NSV

Congratulations on both the marriage and the NSV!
  6. NSV: No seatbelt extender for me on the plane! It was snug, but I could pull the loose tab 3 or 4 inches if I needed to; it's so nice not to have to ask for that extender! Vegas was WONDERFUL. I've honestly never had so much fun, and as "silly" as it was to get married on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise, it ended up being a very meaningful, religious ceremony, and a memory I'll treasure for life. Here are the wedding photos taken by the Star Trek people. http://images.mellette.net/wedding/bridge Jonathan

    I MUST BE DREAMING!

You are smaller than you realize! Thats an awesome NSV!!!
  8. I'm starting to see more posts from folks with stalls, or gaining some weight back, or I'm 'X' pounds away from goal and I want to kindly remind everyone that weight is a number. It's the way the medical community determines success/failure with weight loss surgery. It should not be our way of determining success or failure. Stop getting on the scale. Focus on the non scale victories. We have them daily. You just have to be aware of them. Even with myself being in the maintenance stage, I still have NSVs. I just am not always aware of them and then when I am, it's as good as the first NSV. I've been on this forum for more than two years. I provide my stats just so other morbidly obese folks can see that WLS works. No other reason. I don't weigh myself anymore. I know by what I've eaten, how I'm doing. I know by the fit of my clothes, how I'm doing. I know I'm successful because I can walk again when I was almost wheelchair bound. I know I'm successful because I am healthier than I've been in almost 20 years. I know I'm successful because I look people in the eye again. I know I'm successful because I care about how I look again. I know I'm successful because I am actually out there dating again. I know I'm successful because I can take trips with my family and not be a burden. I know I'm successful because I can put my leg up on the bench in the shower and shave my legs again. I know I'm successful because I can sit in a chair with arms. Shall I go on? Do you get it now? As the weight drops...quickly or slowly or in a non-linear fashion, we experience all types of NSVs. Focus on those. Enjoy your lives, you are making choices to be better. Even if you falter, you can get back on track. You have the tools so know that every day is a new beginning and today is the day to pay attention to how much healthier/happier you are now than before. Have a good day today and be kind to yourselves. I'm heading out in a couple of hours to see my new grandson born this past Thursday. I can get on the train with no problems, climb the stairs at the train station without worrying if I'll make it or not, not worry about how big the hospital is because I can walk without pain, and hold the baby in my arms and know that I will be the most active grandma this kid will ever know. Come look for me....I'll be the little lady in the park climbing the monkey bars with her grandson in a few years. That my friends, is success.

    Finally Seeing Results

I was banded on 3/9/10 and got down to 222lb before being diagnosed with breast cancer on 1/17/11, Spent 90% of 2011 going through surgery, recovery and chemo and ended back at 243lb. Joined Weight Watchers on 10/20/11, Joined the "Y" on 1/3/12 and started the FitLinx program along with 30 minutes a day of cardio. Just hit my first WW goal of 10% of my weight lost - down to 218! NSV 1 - Although I'd heard all the talk about how exercise helps you have more energy, sleep better and relieve stress, I always was "too busy". Well, I'm still "too busy", but realized that there are things that can wait, like housework and catering to my hubs needs. Putting my health first needs to be a priority especially if I want to be around for the long haul. NSV 2- Last band adjustment was Nov '11 - any further adjustments were understandably nixed by my WLS until after I finished treatment and got the okay from my oncologist. I got that okay back in October, but haven't felt the need to go back. My restriction is good but more importantly, I've learned to realize what true hunger is and what's emotional eating. NSV 3- Kudos from my trainer: Jill - Congratulations you've reached a milestone with your Strength training lifting 100 000 lbs! It is your commitment to regular strength training that got you here. Great job! Adrian 2012 May just be the year I finally reach my goal! <a href="http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/waosz4T/"> <img border="0" src="http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/waosz4T/weight

Hi everyone, I have not posted in awhile, I have had many things going on. I was suppose to have my first fill today however the dr nor his nurse could find my port. So I have toschedule for teh flouroscopy. He wanted me to schedule next week or 2 weeks, however I leave for vacation on 3/22 -4/1 so I will not be able to get until after I return. My Dr's comment to was you don't want this before vacation anyways. I had gone back and forth but the nurse convinced me to have it (it did not take much convincing). I guess a higher power had other plans. I did not loose nor have a gained. I was the same. I have been having some other medical issues since surgery that have been getting worse. I started with right after surgery the outside of my left thigh was/is numb. The Dr had order an EMG/NSV to check nerve responses. While I was waiting for this test, a couple of weeks ago I began not being able to feel when I go to the bathroom (sorry for being graphic). So the Dr order and MRI. it should that I have a central disc protrusion, the Dr. still wanted me to have the MRI to find out how bad the nerves are. The results of the EMG/NSV is that there is no muscle response in the left foot and that there is abnormalities in pertty much up through a portion of my back. The worse in the foot. Since I resently had a few surgeries on teh left foot I need to have another MRI of the left foot and ankle to make sure that a nerve was not servered during the surgeries. Also the protrusion in back is not what's causing the numbness in my leg. My primary care asked that I also see a neurologist for a 2nd opinion. So I have my MRI tomorrow morning, then next Wed I have my appointment with the Neurologist and then when I come back from vacation I will have to have my fill and I also have another appointment with a urogynecologist who preformed surgery 12/26, from which I have not been allowed to do any aerobic excercise, weights excetera. The only thing I can do it walk on the treadmill. On a positive note when I actually am able to get my fill he told me that he make sure that the band tightens so that I do not have to keep going back and will have go restriction with the first fill. He ususlly does 4 cc then 2 then 1 in the 10 cc band which is what I have.

    What's NSV Stand For?

Thank you for filling me in. My NSV for this month is I've admitted to myslef I am not a failure - but merely on my WL journey without the proper tools - thus Lap band, Thanks Alex - I always enjoy your posts.
  14. Am not in the best of moods as I write this. It's 12:18am, I've had a busy day and I cant get tucked up nice and warm in my bed.:phanvan Why? :Banane59: Well, I live on a pretty little square in Athens, it has trees and a fountain and makes me happy. It has a downside though...we live above a store. Doesn't belong to us. It was rented out before Christmas and the guy made a taverna! It didn't bother us too much until he decided, to drum up business, he'd have live music on a Saturday night.:think Drives me nuts. I'm on the 1st floor and his little stage is right below my bedroom. So I thought I'd come and waffle. (waffle to me being writing about anything, everything and nothing in particular.) I'm having a good time with my mum visiting and she is being really good at motivating me to get out and walk. We went shopping today..the first time I've ever been to the local shops with her. We were going to go into Athens to Monesteraki which is the place below the Acropolis but Athens was closed off today. :faint: There was a big anti war rally and no taxis would go near the place. We will try and go on Tuesday instead. I'm doing OK and the weight loss continues to be steady. I get weighed Sunday mornings (tomorrow) so I'll see what the new total is and if I'm happy with it. I haven't been an angel this week...nibbled a few chips and a piece of chocolate but I haven't been a disaster either. I have walked each day and my back is definitely easier. I wore some jeans today I couldnt wear before. They are still not perfect but wearable! My knee support bandage fits better now too which is the silliest NSV but hey I takes what I can get That's about it for now...maybe later!
  15. Those sound like a ton of NSVs! Great job!

    A towel is fashion! NSV

I loved that story! I have a dumb question. What does NSV stand for? I can't figure it out!

    A towel is fashion! NSV

It's not lame at all. I had a similar experience. I grabbed a towel and wrapped it around me just not thinking. Then it hit me. Oh my, it wrapped all the way around. I was sooo excited. I pranced out into the livingroom and showed my husband. He just looked at me. I had to explain and his response was "Good". He didn't get it at all but it was still a major NSV to be celebrated. Congrats!!

I love your NSV and the way you told us about it! Your enthusiasm made me smile so big! So far, the only way I've been able to do this is to buy bigger towels.

@@CowgirlJane i think many people here don't/won't say that they really look great we/you/me are not used to receiving compliments, or saying nice things about how we look jane i'm sure you look terrific, even though you say you look "reasonable" thats like me saying i look "ok", when we all know i'm cute as a button!! 2 piece bathing suit???!!!! how exciting is that!!!! you go bud - strutt your stuff!!! great NSV you've done so amazing, and i love seeing your happy, lovely smile and can only imagine how you look in "real life person" keep up the great job!!! kathy congrats
  21. First of all, congrats on all of those NSV's! I recently had some of the same experiences so I totally understand. The realization that those stupid gowns actually fit me was amazing...in fact, they're way too big now. The first time that happened, I found myself wondering if they finally got wise and invested in bigger gowns for us fat people. Then it happened again at a different office and it finally dawned on me that it was because I am smaller and not that the gowns are bigger!haha... Anyway, good luck with all of the testing! Hope everything goes ok for you!

    Nsv...

I have mentioned before that since being banded I still allow my 1 single normal sized candy bar a day so I don't feel deprived, right? Tonight I decided to make myself work for it. I jogged all the way to the market (a few blocks) to get it tonight. Considering I haven't done more than 10 continous jogging strides in decades I was quite impressed with myself. I'm sure they felt the earth tremors in China but oh-well. Another thing I caught myself doing recently that would not have been attempted for the past several years is climbing up onto things. When I was painting our spare bedroom a few weeks ago I actually climbed up on top of this swinging bench I have so I could wash the top of the window frame. HELLO! SWINGING OBJECT and I was STANDING on it! Did I mention I have terrible balance and fell and broke my ankle 5 years ago? Later that day I climbed and stood on top of the bed to hang a picture. For years I have been worried I would break whatever I put my full weight on but that didn't even cross my mind when I started up this time. I had to curtail water aerobics since December because of schedule conflicts but I am happily heading back to the pool starting next week. I CAN'T WAIT! I have actually really missed that activity.

    Nsv...

Congratulations, Teresa!! I'm still working on the jogging thing--been too chicken to try it at the gym on a treadmill, and it's too cold to do it outside. But I have dreams in which I'm running so I know I'm going to be doing that someday. Wonderful NSVs!!

    I am so happy!

Since I have come back here following my tumble into the weeds for a number of months, I have been doing very well. I have now lost all the weight that I gained plus 1 lb more! But the best NSV I could ever hope for is that since then I have been able to reduce my basal insulin. (This is a long acting insulin that I take once every evening to give me a level of insulin in my body for 24 hours). Three weeks ago I was taking 50 units in the evening and now I am down to 36 units each evening. This is a huge difference in managing my diabetes. Ironically, one of the reasons I fell so hard and so fast was that I felt like a failure because other diabetic bandsters were reducing and even going off completely their meds and/or insulin and it was not happening for me. I was very discouraged. But then I told myself, even if it does not happen that I reduce my insulin, I still must lose the weight. So I resigned myself to staying that way. And now...loook what happened! I am so proud! Yah for the Band!
  25. I had to go to my local radiology office today to get an x-ray. Of course, I went to the same office where I had my pre-op chest x-ray and ct-scans and all my other pre-op radiology stuff. This radiology office is conveniently right across from my WLS surgeon's office, so they are familiar with us 'green binder people' (my surgeon's office and NUT give us all our pre-op info and RXs in a green 3 ring binder, which ends up getting carried to all kinds of appointments during our pre-op period.) It was the same office staff lady and the same x-ray tech lady as the previous times I have been there, both of whom know I am in the WLS program. BOTH of them noticed how much smaller I am looking and BOTH of them commented on it, saying that I am 'doing great' and how 'awesome' I am looking. Neither of them knew my surgery date, so the proof is in the pudding that my appearance has, indeed, changed since surgery. My roommate and husbeast have been telling me that my appearance has changed, as have my co-workers and employees. But for some reason it almost seems to mean more when relative strangers notice and comment. It's nice for it to be noticed! I've been smiling all morning!
