Wish I never let sweets back in
NYJenn replied to KCgirl061's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I haven’t tried it again because I craved it, I did so bc it was available, or it looked good, or I thought I deserved it...or any other silly excuse that I told myself -
I'm 30 days post surgery at this point..I have to say I am super depressed right now bc even though I am doing EVERYTHING I have been told to do to be a success at this, I am NEVER seeing movement on the scale! I am so over it to be honest..people have asked..well how much have you lost since surgery..and I have to look at them all dumb and say NOTHING! Then they get all judgy..well are you doing, this, this, or this??..think I was better off mentally before I did this.

My insurance changed! I started my journey November 2018, with a consult with my (then) surgeon at Riverside Medical Clinic. With my (then) insurance, Anthem Blue Cross ***, I only needed 3 month (12 continuous classes) supervised nutrition/weight classes. As of now, I finished 10 out of my 12 classes. Last week I found out my insurance changed to Anthem BC PPO and they now require me to go to a Dignity Health Facility to be covered 100%. Well okay... I call my nearest Dignity Health bariatric surgery center to find out more. I was told at Western Bariatric (St. Bernadine -- San Bernardino, CA) that I needed 6 months of classes and basically restart my journey. I started to bawl my eyes out! I'm 25 (November birthday) and I'm getting real close to end of my insurance coverage under my parents. When I had started my journey, I was hoping to have my surgery by March or April. So, I'm worried about having my surgery before my cut off. Anyway, I sucked it up and started making calls. I attended their Seminar, where we filled out new patient packets and made copies of our insurances. The next step is to wait for a call to schedule my consult with their surgeon. I was told that the consult would count as 1 of the 6 months of weight classes. Does anyone believe they will accept my 3 months of classes Ive already taken? (and maybe only need 3 more months to meet the 6mo requirement?) Will they consider the original surgeon consult from November 2018 too (as part of the 6 months wight management?) I'm honestly hoping that Western Bariatric will consider my start (Nov.) to my current (Feb.) for a total of 4 out of the 6 required months. I didnt want to be set further back, but ill take whatever they'll take and Im hoping for the best! Can anyone can give me some insight? Similar situations? Anyone go to Western Bariatric? I'm really anxious.

You won’t cheat. You can’t bc if you do your liver won’t shrink like they need it to. They need it shrunk so they can better visualize your liver. Take this as a lesson in will power bc after the surgery this will be your new life...a birthday of sorts. You can do this. Follow all the rules so you can have the best outcome. Good luck and you can do it!! (My pre op was liquids only too so I know how hard was and is going to be for you) Focus on the prize girl...A new beginning. Best of luck and you can do this -

That’s what I’m trying to stay away from is the opinionated comments. To many times people jump to conclusions before educating themselves and assume things that aren’t true. I know people talk and it could possibly get out their but for now that is only my immediate family I’ve got 3 people to point a finger at if it gets out. Those 3 people also see how hard I’m working on this also and what I’m sacrificing and what their sacrificing by me being the main cook in the family, so they best be sweet and never criticize their “Momma” if they plan on getting fed. I am married, so I don't have any experience with dating after WLS. However, it is obvious that dating gets easier after WLS in the sense that you will have more dates. While you may look more attractive shedding some of those excess pounds, the fact that you feel better about yourself will make you more appealing to prospective suitors. The change in self-esteem and confidence is a big factor in improving your love life post-surgery (there are actually studies that have been done on this). That same boost in self-esteem an confidence can actually have the opposite effect for married WLS patients, who develop more confidence and are no longer willing to put up with their spouse's BS (which usually pre-existed the surgery). So, you should expect finding dates to be easier after surgery---maybe not the first few months when you need to focus on recovery and getting into the swing of your new lifestyle, but certain a few months down the line.

Had my sleeve end of July 2018. Yes it got better for me. Never had heartburn before in my life (aside from my two pregnancies). It did go away after about 4mos. I just took Tums with me in my purse and that helped me. Hope it gets better for you like it did with me. Think of it this way...for me the heartburn made me really question every little thing I ate bc of the repercussions (heartburn)

I too struggle with a big sweet tooth. Best bet is to not buy candy/desserts...instead buy sugar free pudding or sugar free jello. Bc your pouch only fits so much a few spoon fulls should get your pouch satisfied and quench that sweet urge. Doesn’t mean that occasionally you can have a bite or two of a dessert but my suggestion would be to not have that stuff regularly or kept in your house where temptation can creep up on you. Keep strong and do the best you can do...everyday is a learning exp and trying to retrain your brain and bad habits. Bad habits have been the hardest for me as well...specifically sweets...skittles etc. I’m a work in progress too. I struggle daily too but I just try my best every day...sometimes I succeed and sometimes I fall down...but I get back up and tomorrow is a new day. Good luck and YOU CAN DO THIS!!😊👍🏻

I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
Frustr8 replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Well say Hi to another, I had my RnY September 5th, 2 weeks in I started saying "Something is Wrong", they discounted me at first, I was impatient, I should know I was still swollen inside, my surgeon had said I could progress to Stage 3 foods, every time I tried. it came right back up, only could handle broths in and other fluids, even choked a few times on applesauce with my meds ground up. Finally, I suspect to shut me up, they scheduled an Endoscopy on October 12th, well Surprise Surprise I had a stoma stricture, that's why nothing was getting through, plus I had multiple ulcerations in my jejunem, and I grabbed a hold of that Tornado's Tail and I'm still riding it. Multiple endoscopies, still strictured, they have tried twice to dialate it but it kept tightening back up, end of November, November 28th in fact, I was not digesting my p.o. protein, malnourished, dehydrated, and my happy hoo-hah and me got to be a return guest of the Bariatric and Gastrointestinal floor 10 Doan for 6 days, fed by IV the whole time, on November 28th a PICC line was installed, TPN was started and I am still on it 2+ months later, 12 hour feedings, 12 hours off every day. I have graduated to 1 token pureed meal a day, odd days a Protein shake, even days homemade pureed soup with extra protein added, this month instead of strainining out veggies I can pureed them into it, but bulk of nutrition is TPN stills Lost 3 pounds mid- December to mid- January, must have been close to a stall because if Doctors scales are correct I dropped 8,3 pounds January 16th to 25th, so although my weight is dropping a lot slower than the beginning, it still decreases, down over a 100 pounds from my life highest weight in October 2017, maybe 50+ s8nce surgery, so that's a lot better than I expected. Starting to resemble 2 of my dead relatives, don't recognize ME anymore but am going to keep hanging around and losing until I find out WHO I AM inside. Might take a year to 18 months to reach my goal, but now I know I will live long enough to do it! March 2020 I am going to be dy-no- mite, just wait and see!👙😛👚👖 -
Cleaned out my whole closet and drawers this weekend. Tried on some capris I wore a week before surgery at Universal...they were so big on me. Def made me see the results even more that way. I wasn’t sad getting rid of my big clothes. Someone saw me today in Target who hasnt seen me in a while and asked if I was “ok” bc of the weight diff. Once she found out I was ok she said I looked great. Think it’s just that I look very diff. I don’t feel like I look sickly at all But guess when you see yourself in the mirror day after day it’s hard to see all the changes someone who doesn’t see you all the time sees.

Well insta___adventurer I'm pleased for you, that is a very nice loss since July, looks like you may be in Onederland before long. And when you are please post, I'll be cheering for you! Currently my next baby goal is 250, I'm 260- something, maybe 268, maybe a little less, I lost 8 pounds in one week if the doctors scales are correct, only lost 3 mid December to mid-January, but I'll take it anyway. Kinda sad, before surgery I was heading toward death by obesity, the end of November either I wasn't using the protein I was eating or I malnourished myself, ended up hospitalized for almost 6 days, and gained a PICC line for TPN nourishment through an site in my upper left arm. Dang it, I couldn't even lose weight correctly, guess I could not do THAT right! So now I'm losing slower and healthier, but still on a losing path.12 hours fed through my portable pump, 12 hours to run errands, make a stab at housecleaning, cooking for Tomkitten, microwaving my small p.o. intake, I alternate days, odd days it's a protein shake, even a homemade soup slightly pureed with protein powder. But the majority of my nutrition is TPN to allow my ulcerations in my jejunem and stoma- strictured pouch to heal. Before long I expect they will be weaning me off the supplement and back to varied foods as soon as they say I'm healed, maybe 2 more dilatations? But I am trying to be peaceful, accepting, approaching it in a calm manner, my surgeons have a plan, they know they can handle this challenge, so I know I can too. Finally found another prtein shake I can stand, strawberry Ensure HIGH PROTEIN. Actually tastes pretty close to Strawberry Quik & Little Frustr8 used to 💘 that stuff! One of the few Without that fakey evaporated milk taste I grew to HATE. I used to enjoy Premier Protein until my verdompt Wal-Mart deleted all flavors except vanilla and chocolate. And NEVER buy their house brand Equate, that stuff is nasty and foul-tasting. One of my September friends spilled Equate on her floor, neither the Car or Dog would lap it up, and she told me '"Poochie even eats garbage and he wouldn't touch it "so animals even think it's BAD.

Surgery Cancelled to A1C being too high
aisuru113 replied to Ohiogirl14's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would take a long look at what you are eating and drinking. Don't do that BS food funeral nonsense, throw in some more exercise and check your blood sugars every day to make sure you are keeping on track. -
The fluid did not come back but I ended up back in the hospital Bc my intestines were very inflamed.

Imma Post Here Anyways - Mini Success
Frustr8 replied to mousecat88's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Patience is a virtue, but at 73 the rest of my vitue is long gone, living on grit, determination, 12 hours of TPN a night and hoping my story will end as well as my Bari-Bud 🐭🐱(aka MouseCat), so so proud of Her success! Oh got to believe it's only a Matter of Time, never planned to be like this 5 months out from surgery. And oh it started out So Good , 2 weeks in. my stoma strictured, the ulcerations started , they should have known , I already had a gastric ulcer I named Hector in the stomach part bypassed, went in with DX of Gastritis, took me off my PPI Dexilent, put me on their ineffectual Omeprazole, may work for many, never did for ME and I have been hanging on the tail of a tornado every since! And when will it END, IDK but sure wish I did! So I chug-a-chugging along on a limited Stage 2 diet, liquids and thin purees once a day, sustained largely on the calories and nutrition from TPN fed through a PICC line in my upper Left Arm. Been there for 2 months yesterday, possibly for 2 more months, at least that was the last recommendation I was given last Friday at my EGJ, 9th endoscopy lifetime, 6th at OSU. Well to be technically correct Transnasally July 2013 EGD June 2015 EGD December 2017 those 3 were at my local Community Hospital KCH in Mount Vernon EGD immediately prior to RnY surgery September 5 2018 by Dr Needleman EGJs because post RnY duodenum is no longer accessible, only your jejunem, the 2nd section of Small Intestine Those were October 12, October 26, November 9th, November 28, that's when I was bad enough I was hospitalized and PICC l8ne inserted next day, all these done by Sabrena Noria MD, my surgeons partner who just 💞doing endoscopies. And lastly January 25 2019 by their Senior Resident Noah J Stinson MD, Dr Noria was over- booked, I guess. He wasn't too bad, this time they attempted stretching my stomal stricture part way, did it work permanently? Doubtful, Dr Noria tried in October, snapped right back where it was before, a virtual pinhole that lets only liquids through. Does THIS happen often? Oh I am so dang special I nearly stink, and I did not request to be! I WANT to be like all the others out there, my surgery day twins are on Stage 4 or Normal diets, and I'm lagging behind. Wahhh!😪😥💦 -
Good afternoon, my name is Mousecat and I am a cat addict. I live alone and I just have to give a public forum shoutout to my two kitties for being my crutch through all the post-op BS (and life BS in general). I have an (almost) 10 year old boy named Mouse who I rescued from a Baltimore City shelter at 8 weeks. He was very sickly and I nursed him to health. He has been everywhere with me and is my rock. My other boy is Nugget who is a year and a half and I found him in my mom's backyard at 3 weeks old and bottlefed. He had a number of near-death scares and I am embarrassed to say how much $$ I spent keeping him alive. He is my goofy boy. I just don't know what I would do without them. Mouse know when I am sad or sick and will be glued to me the whole time. Nugget is a derp and makes my home joyful. Any special fur kids in your life? I am so grateful for their furry little existence.

Minimal weight loss in the first 6 weeks
JB29 replied to Jaxie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in the same boat for a while- I read everything I could get my hands on and almost everything said the same thing....to be patient. And to be honest, I wasn't happy about that bc.....come on!!!!!! I was eating around 450-800 calories a day and I thought for sure with the severe deficit I'd see some great losses. Nope. I stalled at losing only 30lbs in the first weeks (preop/postop) for nearly a month. I started to increase my calories- I began to eat more times during the day, which quite frankly scared me to death. After I did that- I've had steady weight loss (67 lbs total since 11/29). The last thing you want to hear is to be patient, but stick it out! -
To snack in between meals or not to snack
Kris77 replied to Kris77's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I heard that too. In my coffee I’m gradually switching from sweet n low to truvia. Right now I’m at two truvia and one sweet n low. I use to be three sweet n low. I did read to try and stay away from artificial sweeteners. Today I am logging what I eat. I stopped doing that and I’m going to start back up. Hoping that helps me not snack. I think the snacking is more habit bc it happens mainly when I get home from work while cooking dinner and later in the evening. -
So I was sleeved on 7/23/18. SW:238, Pre op weight 221, CW 162. Goal is 138. I've lost 75 pounds and have been doing good with weight loss. I recently order a couple cookbooks and I noticed in it said that you should not snack and to only have three small meals a day. The small meals are fine but I mainly snack to get more protien in as I know I don't get enough daily. Curious what others do. Part of me says I'm doing good bc the scale is moving in the right direction...but the other part of me thinks am I doing something wrong...last thing I want is months down the road to slowly start gaining again. Biggest fear is gaining all the weight bk and looking like a failure...... Advice?

I just had my surgery on the 24th. I’m in British Columbia, Canada. I had the sleeve in February 2017 and just had a revision due to acid reflux. I was initially with a doctor in Victoria, who was useless. Went to see him for 7:years and went nowhere. Appointments were maybe 3 minutes long if you’re lucky and I live 8 hours plus a 2 hour ferry ride away! Switched to Dr. Sampath in Richmond in the summer of 2015. Had my orientation in October 2016 and sleeved Feb 2017. Amazing man. Covered by medical services plan in BC as health related. Was over 300 lbs.
