Missing the "Full" signal

Hey no problem! I just want to help you figure it out too. My surgery is tomorrow. I've seen a lot of people on here say that you don't start feeling full until you move onto purees. 2T is 1 oz, and the NUT also said take 20-30 mins to eat and then wait 30 mins after that to sip water. Maybe try slowing down? Maybe you're pushing too much through the sleeve and that's maybe why not losing as much? By no means am I any type of medical professional, I'm just trying to bounce some ideas around. You're what 9 days put now? Give your body some time to adjust, there were iv fluids and meds in your system. Plus I've seen on here the 2-3 week stall, maybe you started yours early. Have you taken measurements? Maybe that will help instead of the scale?

Where are my August Sleevers?

I'm still here. almost 9 weeks out. Was in a 3 week stall that finally broke over the weekend but still not happy with what little I have lost in two months. I am exercing like crazy too hoping for improvement!

Hope all the August sleevers are doing well!!
3. okay y'all. tomorrow on the 18th i'll be exactly a month post op. which is exciting for the most part. im in that annoying 3 weeks stall first of all which ive been reading about lately. i saw my doctor last week which he said was early to have an appointment but they set it up so i went anyway. he told me i wasnt getting enough calories per day. im supposed to be having atleast 1000 a day he said by now but i've only been having like 300 a day. as everyone who has had this surgery they know what i mean when they dont actually feel hunger anymore. which is still super weird to me. but almost every single time i eat i vomit. it doesn't hurt that bad i just know that its weird and i dont like it lol someone please if you have any advice on something i can do to get proper nutrition in without vomitting everytime i eat that would be awesome. i've been lacking on my Protein shakes but i'm working on it. any advice would be appreciated.

Plateau for the last few days...help!

Since the day of surgery I've been living in fear of the dreaded 3 week stall. I hit 2 weeks tomorrow and start mushies next Tuesday. I'm praying the 3 week stall isn't too devastating. I joined a gym today and start working out tomorrow so (prayerfully) that will help give my body the boost it needs to lose as much as I can before the 3rd week arrives. @@twinmommy83 keep us posted on your progress. Other than our heights our stats are so similar it will be nice to have someone to chat about this whole thing with. good luck!!

Any Washington State Sleevers?

Yeah! I love Dr. Landerholm!!! Woohoo. I'm in Lake Stevens. 3 weeks post op as of today. I'm down 15 pounds and have hit my "3 week stall," but I know it will pass. You are going to love everyone there. Jillian is a sweetheart, and Bridget is really nice too. Dr. L really cares...he never talked down to me and treated me like he would treat his family members. They have such respect for their patients. I went to a few different clinics and doctors and never felt the same respect as I do at PSSC. Good luck and keep me posted. Maybe we can all go out for tea or something. I drink iced tea and hot tea like it's going out of style now lol...before it was coffee

3 weeks Post-Op Question

I have not had surgery yet. But I can't tell you how many places on this forum that I've read about the dreaded 3 week stall. From what I've read it's normal. They say to stick to the plan the surgeon and nutritionist gave you and you'll be back to losing weight again in no time. I'm sure a veteran loser will have more to add shortly. Stay positive and keep your eye on the prize! Oh! and don't weigh yourself everyday. Hide the scale! =)

DISAPPOINTED & ANGRY

Thanks - this is why I love this forum - you get help from people who've been where you are. My problem is, I compare myself to 3 others that I know closely who just blew it out of the water. It's not happening that way for me. But as ALL of you have and are saying : we're all different. And... I did not know about the dreaded 3 week stall. What a relief to know about this. One thing I would like to know, just for extra help is : ideas of what to eat during the puréed stage. And what most of you are doing to get your protein in. Anything anyone could tell me, I would be very grateful ❤. Again, thanks for slapping me back into reality ????

DISAPPOINTED & ANGRY

Good advice here. I mean really, you HONESTLY think with the amount you can eat right now it's possible for you to gain weight? Because it's NOT. You are in the dreaded 3 week stall that 99% of us go through, and your body is just adjusting. I stalled and gained too, and guess what? It ended and now I'm back to losing. I also know it wont be my last, and because of that, I only weigh once a week or so now. Stop driving yourself crazy and put the scale away and stick with the program. It will work, I promise

DISAPPOINTED & ANGRY

Have you ever lost 12 pounds in 3 weeks previously? Is it the TOM? Are you, could you be retaining water? Could you call the NUT for some perspective? I would also think for this that have had many attempts, I would say the body/metabolism needs time to catch up and that you've entered dreaded 3 week stall. Everybody had it, or so I've read here. There is actually a physiological reason for it.

Lower-end BMI Sleeve Surgery. Any others?

I began with a lower BMI as well. Currently I am 4 weeks out. My surgery was Sept 8th. The 1st month was brutal. In the beginning I felt amazing! Then the exhaustion kicks into gear. Of course it didn't help that I also ended up with a horrible head cold 2 1/2 weeks post-op. But, I'm fully recovered from my cold now. I'm finally at the point where I feel like I can function like a normal person and am feeling amazing again! The dreaded 3 week stall is over, for now anyway. This has been the best thing that I have ever done for myself! It's me time! Time to get me healthy, happy and regain my self confidence again. Even on the hardest days, I never once regretted my decision to get the sleeve. I'm so excited for what's a head!!! Good luck to you on your journey as well!

17 pounds in 9 days!

Hi Carla, Very normal. The hospital pumped about 8-10lbs of fluids into you during your stay and surgery so you lose that right away. Additionally, you will lose your glycogen stores which is basically sugar that has been modified for energy for use in your muscles. On average a person has about 2lbs of glycogen in their muscles, and to store that, about 8 lbs of Water. When your body is starving, it dumps its stores of glycogen and with that, the water that suspended it for use. Not to take away from your joy because it is really exciting to have any loss, but be prepared for the dreaded 3 week stall. For some people it is shorter than others but for most it lasts at least a week or two of no weight loss, and sometimes even gain while your body replenishes and rebuilds the glycogen stores. After the store, you should expect anywhere from 2-4lbs weight loss weekly during your losing phase. Make sure you are getting in your Protein so that your hair doesn't fall out later.

Hiatal hernia repair

Hi. I'm new to this site but had my VSG 8/14/14. With the liquids, you are doing the right thing with trying different temperatures. You may want to take smaller sips. At one point my sips were just getting the tip of my tongue wet. What really helped me was walking while I drank my Water. I don't mean a stroll. I was moving my legs! The moving helped the water pass without feeling like someone kicked me in my chest. May I suggest that you put the scale away. You are three days out from surgery. Standing on the scale every day will do nothing but drive you batty. I still don't have a scale in my house because I am compulsive. I would weigh several times a day if it was right there in my home. In the beginning I just waited until my surgeon visits to find my weight. I was never disappointed. I didn't have that dreaded 3 week stall everyone gripes about. I weighed in the doctor's office during the week 1 visit and weighed again during the week 3 visit. Guess what....the weight was down. No stall. After a few weeks, I picked Monday as my official weigh in and just plot my weight once a week on a graph. Some people plot their weight once a month. This way I don't get caught up in the day to day fluctuations your body will make. Before surgery I wrote a list of NSVs I wanted to achieve. This way I could Celebrate something in the event the scale doesn't move from one week to another. Who cares that I didn't lose 1 pound this week because I was able to button a pair of pants that I haven't worn in yearssssss!!!! Just find other ways to celebrate.

Day 14 Post op and weight stall?

I'm 14 days out and I have stalled for 2 days as well. You are right, it is discouraging. It's not related to started puree because I started that stage close to a week ago and my weight loss stayed consistent. Maybe we're just starting the 3 week stall early. Hopefully it doesn't last long.
15. Sleeved 15 September, dropped about 22lbs since then but it looks like I've also hit the 3 week stall. Not too discouraged as it's coincided with moving to pureed foods and walking 2 1/2 miles to work each day so I suspect (hope) it's partly adding muscle from exercise while still losing fat. My clothes are still feeling looser.

SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!

Sleeved 9/9/14 was wondering if going to the gym would be a good idea, if so how much would be ideal? Bandages finally off as of yesterday stuck at 3 week stall.
17. So in week 3, I didn't lose anything. The sunday going into week 4...7 lbs down! So anyone in week 3 flipping out...don't. Week 4 will move right along. Having that said..I messed up today. I am in Protein phase and have eaten so much grilled chicken, I'm gonna be one soon! So I had a piece of jerk chicken...yes. spicy food. BAD IDEA! matter of fact..terrible idea! I feel so sick right now. It all came back up. I learned my lessson..."stay in your damn lane. Follow the diet plan". So if this describes you, or something you're thinking of doing...don't!

Last advice

Immediately after surgery (well, the next day ) : Walk, walk, walk, sip, sip, sip. Someone said those words to me, and it was my mantra for days! Walking really does make you feel better! Do it as soon and as often as you can! And sip all day long to stay hydrated! Weeks after surgery: Head hunger sucks. I hope you don't get it, but some do. Work through it by staying hydrated and finding the liquid Protein you enjoy the most. When you get cravings, read, walk, knit, do WHATEVER you can to divert your attention to how bad you want a cheeseburger! Realize that this liquid phase doesn't last forever (well, it did for me, but that's another story), and as soon as you start more solid food, the head hunger subsides. Also remember that you really won't feel the restriction from surgery on the liquid stage, so don't worry You will feel it once you start more solid foods. The dreaded 3 week stall will happen. Maybe not right at 3 weeks, but a stall will happen. Don't panic. It's normal. Follow the plan and it will end. Like Lipstick said, take pics to see your progress! You will see although you may not lose on the scale for a couple weeks, you will see the difference in the photos! Good Luck, good healing and congrats on your new life!!
19. VSGLiz, I feel your pain. I was sleeved on 09/10. I lost 25lbs in a blink of an eye...for the past 2 weeks, NOTHING! so frustrating. I know there is the 3 week stall, but i think my stall is going to last 3 weeks! its insane!! Have you talked to your surgon about it? Im almost afraid to ask mine, I don't want him to think i'm sitting around eating chocolate all day or something, but if I don't get out of this stall, i'll go crazy!

Sept. 8th & 9th Gastric Bypass surgery.

I am so happy to announce that I put my scale away this morning.... After getting on it of course. I am a everyday weigher and I have decided not to get back on the scale for 2 weeks. So I "hope" I can stick to it. I figured this would be the perfect time because of the "3 week stall" talk among the boards. I just hope that the scale moves a little while I'm on hiatus.
21. I'm five weeks out and just regaining my energy. Definitely sleep when you are tired...that lets the body heal itself. But keep up with the Protein shakes and your Vitamins. And make sure you start eating solid foods on the timeframe your doctor set. Solid foods with protein and some carbs in the form or vegetables are really helping the energy factor for me. I just started eating solids this past Sunday. Remember, your body thinks you are trying to starve it, so it will go into defense/survivor mode. Kind of left over from our caveman ancestors who might have to go long periods before getting their next meal. The body knows it uses less energy when sleeping, so fatigue is part of the process. And the 3-week stall is a real thing for most sleeved patients...another way our bodies take over. It knows fat is needed to keep us warm and it's easy to store for future use. Once you're past the liquids and purees...the "starving" phase...your body will balance out and know you're not starving it. Then it will go back to burning fat for energy. Get lots of sleep this week before you go back to work and just keep up with your Protein drinks. This too shall pass.
22. I was sleeved July 10 my highest weight 264 day of surgery 258 and now I'm juggling between 225-229 I'm super depressed that I'm not losing. I'm at a 3 week stall. I don't know what to do

Sept. 8th & 9th Gastric Bypass surgery.

So.... It has been 3 weeks post op. How is everyone doing? I have heard sooooo much about the 3 week stall that I have decided to put my scale away starting tomorrow... Just for about 1.5 weeks. I am one of those ppl who will stress over not seeing it move.
24. I have a lot of other health issues and I think the first dr was going for the band because it is something that could be reversed if need be. He does all of the surgeries. I somehow seemed to get him on call when I ended up back in the hospital a couple of times. He did a friend of mines sleeve and her husbands bypass and they have done fine. My dr just kept telling me to have patience because he felt like my hernia repair was a little tight and needed time to loosen but I felt like it must be a stricture. I even told him a couple of weeks ago things were tightening up again and he kind of acted like that couldn't be the case. I am so thankful for the first dr. He is the only one that is listening to me these days! He is being pro-active at this point and even admitting that none of them appreciated the fact that it could have been a stricture so early in the game. You know I lost some weight prior to the surgery and the rest after. I also had a 3 week stall.
25. Well folks, I've read about it over and over and over and over again....3 week stall. It won't happen to me I said. Well it's a for sure thing. Been stuck now at the same weight all week and it's really really frustrating. Especially when my doc says a guy my size should be able to drop about 20 lbs a month in the beginning. Incision pain starting to get better and I've gone to the gym, walking on the treadmill, moving more, nothing seems to help. Been following the rules, eating about 600 cal per day consistently. scale is just being a lil B**** at the moment. ???????????????????????????????? ???????????????? Praying for a better week 4! I realize it's not a sprint and I'm committed, just darn frustrating.
