Hiking & Camping VSG Food Ideas
Pescador replied to #BirdDog's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you are hiking sounds like you will need beef jerky, trail mix, and light items for food. The GenePro protein powder is about one T. Of powder and would mean x with most anything. I have never hiked, but I loved camping in the motor home. I need a cooler and more than I can carry, so good luck with your hiking!!!! -

I was exhausted and barely getting my fluids in. After surgery I was unable to drink protein shakes, thank god for unflavored Genepro that you can order on Amazon or get at GNC. -
Any actual stats or research on Genepro protein?
JamieLogical replied to Mrs_O's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The only "studies" are ones they have done themselves. I have found no third party confirmation of their claims. If you want to use GENEPRO, I would advise counting it as 15 grams of Protein toward your daily total instead of the claimed 30 grams. Logically, it's not physically possible to fit 30 grams into 15 grams. Grams are a measure of mass. The claim is that their specific formula of protein is absorbed and utilized by the body at a much higher rate than "normal" protein supplements, thus you allegedly get the BENEFIT of twice as much protein in half the mass. But again, there are no independent studies to prove their claims at this point. So you would be totally taking it on faith and running the risk of only getting half as much protein as you think you are. That's why I recommend counting it as just the actual and real 15 grams of protein. If you are getting the "benefit" of more protein because of their special process, then great, but at least you can be sure you are still getting your minimums in by counting it as only 15 grams. -
Hello [emoji1309] what should I bring w/ me to hospital? Will b staying overnight. What was helpful to you on your stay? I'm thinking of getting a binder, sounds right up my alley, I guess I'll ask hospital if they give one if not I'll invest in one. Protein, which best to get, I think I'll get an unflavored so I can add to stuff. I've heard of genepro & un-something? Sorry I'm all over the place here! I hope I'm posting this correctly 🤷♀️Surgery day 4/12/18 I'm 241lbs

unflavored protein powder recommendations?
mrsmoons replied to Miss Topaz's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I use genepro. 1 scoop has 30 grams of protein and is flavorless -
Following. I just drug out what's left of my old bag of unflavored Genepro in hopes of upping my protein to break my month long stall. I also went onto their website because I may need to purchase more and also noticed the new stuff. Curious if anyone has tried it.

Anyone try bulletproof collagen protein
RickM replied to Sosewsue61's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
At least they aren't being too fraudulent, as they state on the label that it doesn't count toward your RDA of protein, so at least they are a half step above Genepro on the honesty scale. Considering the other fadish stuff they sell on that site, I would walk away quickly. Supplement Facts Serving Size: 2 Scoops/5 Tbsp (24g) Serving Per Container: about 21 Amount Per Serving Calories 90 % Daily Value* Protein 22g 0%1 Sodium 75mg 3% Hydrolyzed Collagen 24g ** * Percent Daily Values (DV) are based on a 2,000 calorie diet. ** Daily Value not established. 1 Collagen Protein does not count toward the FDA recommended Percent Daily Value for protein because it lacks one essential amino acid: tryptophan. -
Protein recommendations!
TheRevisionedVagabond posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've just hit 5 weeks post op & cant seem to shake this stall for crap! Its been ongoing for about 2 weeks now & it's frustrating but I KNOW I'm not getting in the recommended Protein. Please suggest some protein brands & flavours you use to help get your goal in! I've tried the Syntrax nectar but only Fuzzy Navel & Carribean Cooler. Wasn't a fan of the former, but the latter is really good! I'm not looking for something with a weird after taste or anything like that. Bonus points if I can put it in Water (to make a protein rich "crystal light") or even if it's *truly* unflavoured. (Heard about GENEPRO but don't know much about them) Lay them on me! Protein recommendations!

I know many have said it before, but I would be lost without GENEPRO. I put it in everything I eat. You won't regret it! -
Protein powder recommendations?
Dreamingofhealth replied to boosh10's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I just ordered GENEPRO... I haven't really tried anything else, but I've heard it dissolves in almost anything and you can use it in hot or cold foods. I liked that it only takes one TBS for 30 g of Protein compared to some powders using 1/4-1/2C for the same amount of protein. I will test it out and give you the feedback as soon as it arrives! I failed

I cant tolerate Protein Shake! 3 days post op!
Meg55 replied to leonelbreton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@leonelbreton You might want to try GENEPRO, it is more expensive, but the scoops are smaller, the mix is finer, and you get 30g of Protein. I ordered from Amazon..... http://www.amazon.com/Musclegen-Research-Genepro-Medical-Servings/dp/B00K6OSDYA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1455942223&sr=8-1&keywords=genepro You should find it much easier soon! -
I looked it up when I saw your question. It looks expensive to me. Check into GENEPRO.....30 grams of Protein in a tablespoon. It is oderless and tasteless. I also mix it in my Crystal Light Lemonade (don't like sweet drinks). You can mix it with hot or cold..... they send you little packets so you can carry it with you.

I am currently on my fifth bag of GENEPRO. I had my bloodwork in October and I am right on target. After my surgery I got where I could not drink any other Protein drinks. They were just too chalky and I would gag on them. I tried several kinds.....ISOPURE left a terrible metal taste in my mouth..... whey shots were just horrible....could not stand Premier....etc. This is been the best for me! It might not be for everyone, but it is for me. I make a big tumbler (Bubba Jug) every morning with Crystal Light and keep it on my desk and sip on it. After lunch I usually make another big tumbler full. I get my protein in and my Water at the same time. If I put it in my coffee....I mix it with the creamer....zap it in the microwave and then add the coffee....it mixes better and I like my coffee hot. I have mixed it in yogart, pudding, sprinkled on food.....etc.

Can we talk carbs?
Clementine Sky replied to magoosmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dietician recommended steel cut oatmeal for breakfast, with a splash of milk, cinnamon, Peanut Butter, or a little fruit to jazz it up rather than adding in sugar or syrup. This article discusses some of the benefits: http://healthyeating.sfgate.com/benefits-steel-cut-oats-2053.html Trader Joe's sells frozen steel cut oatmeal that is surprisingly good, and nice for a quick, 1-dish breakfast. Sometimes I'll use a crockpot to make my own batch for the week. I prefer them cold (odd, I know) with some Fair Life milk. You can stir in an unflavored Protein powder like GENEPRO, or even a flavored one that enhances the oatmeal. Definitely avoid the packaged flavored oatmeal, like those by Quaker Oats. As for how many carbs to have in a day, I think it's really individual. I was advised to aim for around 50 grams to 100 per day. I've been successful with rapidly losing weight on low carb diets, but I've never had success at sustaining that weight loss. It's too restrictive for me, and I think it is for many people. The type of carb also matters a lot, of course. I try to get most of mine from fruit, vegetables, oatmeal, and things like crisp bread. Carbs are a good way to get in some fiber. -
Best Unflavored Protein Powder?
BigViffer replied to PepperCat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have no recommendation for unflavored protein powder, just about anything is decent as long as it is not Genepro. They were just recently successfully sued for their misleading marketing practices. There is not 30 grams of protein in a serving. They used to say that magically compressed the protein then they changed their story to say that it is the equivalent of 30 grams of protein because of the rapid absorption. Here is a better post about it because I don't feel like typing it out all over again" -
Isopure and GENEPRO Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

The two things that have saved me are: 1. Isopure RTD Protein drinks available at GNC stores. Now, they don't taste the greatest, but they are much more palatable to me than Protein shakes right now. 2. Unflavored Protein powder (I have both Syntrax and Genepro). I add it to everything...broth, soup, pudding, etc. I would really like to try the Syntrax nectar drinks!

I never want to cook anymore. When I first had surgery I was pretty interested in trying new recipes (mostly along the clean-eating line), but now that I literally take 4 bites of anything and feel full, I just have become uninterested in cooking. I find myself eating just anything with protein to get my tummy full and then move on. It's just me and my hubby at home now, so cooking for only 2 was something I was struggling with before, but now that I'm cooking for 1 and 1/4 it's a real challenge. I miss food and miss good meals. An example of my eating is yesterday I had coffee with Genepro protein powder for breakfast, a protein shake for lunch, and some cottage cheese with carrot sticks for dinner. I also ate a few nuts for a snack. I want a hot meal for goodness sake that isn't going to get thrown out because there's too much. Anybody else going through this or have ideas for me?

Besides water, what do you like to drink?
ichabodny replied to Horseshowmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Man, you guys are so lucky for not having been soda drinkers! That was my largest addiction (coke zero and diet ginger ale). I've pretty much evened out now on many things for taste coming back and bits of head hunger but I think the killer right now for me is when I see a commercial or show with a nice big glass of cold soda-forget the food! lol. That's my craving these days. I really do live on genepro mixed with my water and a few drops of sugar free water flavor. I take protein but I found after my labs that my body wasn't taking all the protein I was eating and the surgeon said to try to add more of the genepro for now because our bodies will never take in what everything we take down now. The genepro gives me some filler with my water and it's the best I've found for all the protein needed. Never could take coffee with the gerd I still have but I wish I could for the shift I work! -
Oddball here - dislike Premiere - Thoughts?
shedo82773 replied to tinytummy17's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
HERE HERE another one that doesn't LIKE Premier Protein. I had to drink it 2 weeks before my RNY and 4 weeks after. I had "the back door trots" the whole time. At my check up I was told that I was Lactose Intolerant!! Gee Thanks!! I mean it was BAD!! Also, I commend anyone that likes and can drink Isopure junk!!! I LOVE GENEPRO unflavored protein, I add it to my coffee every day. I also like Atkins products. I just wish I had found the GENEPRO a while ago. Also, like was said above your taste will more than likely change after your WLS. BEWARE of buying to much ahead. -
Give Genepro protien try (available on Amazon). It's got 30 grams of protein in 1 tablespoon and is easily mixed into any liquid hot or cold. It's been my lifesaver! I don't really like "milky" protein shakes, but can mix it into 5-6oz Vitamin Water Zero or Crystal Light without changing the flavor or the texture. Do that 3x a day and you're covered!

phase 2 if you cant tolerate protein shakes... any idea on what to do?
JennsinCA replied to Castle coburg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on my second bag of genepro protein powder. It is my safety net when I can't get all my protein from food, which is often since I am still learning to balance food and water. I made beans and ham after Christmas and I was adding it to that. I also still have lite and fit yogurt on hand to add it to either in the morning to Jumpstart my protein for the day or at night if I don't hit my protein that day.
