February 2022 Surgery Buddies
fourmonthspreop replied to MeganMyers's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine on Feb 14th so I'm 5 weeks and 3 days out. I felt pretty good about fluids and protein until like 2 weeks ago drinking water and feeling pain/restriction, especially when it's room temp. Using a straw and having ice water seems to help me get it down better. I actually gulp in a lot of air when I don't use a straw. Most teams tell you not to, even mine but I feel gas pain in my chest without the straw. I'm doing really well with protein though and get 70-80 grams a day through about 700-800 calories. Rarely do I get to 800 cals though. I noticed on days when I have eaten up to 800 cals I feel nauseated at night so I try to not go over 750. It's a small difference but weird enough I can really feel it. I eat 3 small meals a day, one snack and a protein shake. My dietician has me eat 2 oz of protein every 2 hours during the daytime. I'm taking vitamins well, no hair loss...yet? I do need to take nausea medicine in the morning because maybe 4 times a week I wake up with the instinct to dry heave. I don't know why but I've always felt nauseous in the mornings, even pre op. I find that I can either focus on food or water but not both. When I drink 64 oz of fluids, I eat less and miss my protein goal. When I reach my protein goal, I drink less fluids. I find that balance to be really difficult to deal with and get right. I wonder when that'll be easier? It's also tough with the 2-hour eating rule and then the 10 min before 30 after drinking rule. I'd basically always have to have food or fluid in my mouth all day which isn't realistic for me. I've lost 29 lbs in 5 weeks. I don't really feel it yet/still feel like a big out-of-shape lump LOL. I think I'll feel the weight loss when I hit the 240's. I have my one-month post-op tomorrow with my nurse practitioner. Looking forward to it. P.S. Is anyone still dealing with constipation and ROCK HARD stool? I am on prune juice, Metamucil, colace and occasional senna tea. I go almost every day but it's incredibly forced, usually bleeding occurs or I need to slap on a pair of gloves and take it out (I know TMI I'm sorry ) . I'm going to talk to my team about it tomorrow but I'm so done with it. It also causes me a great deal of nausea. Wondering if anyone else is dealing with this and what you're doing to make it better? -

Question... This might be TMI, but how often are you having a BM or going number #2!? I didn't go for 11 days after surgery and have only gone one other time in the last 16 days. I'm drinking Miralax daily, but I just wondered if this was normal. Thank you! -

Constipation - Warning TMI
fourmonthspreop replied to Donna2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know the struggle... trust me. I almost went to the ER because the amount of blood but turns out it was from the hard stool. So long as the blood is fresh - it's likely just from the straining/hardness. This is def TMI but I reached the point of slapping on a pair of gloves and taking it out myself. Sadly this intense constipation is common after weight loss surgery. You'll need to find a supplement and or medication routine that helps you pass things better. Try asking your care team for advice. I have in my arsenal right now senna (smooth move) tea, milk of magnesia, psyllium husk and prune juice. I also try to each some veggies with my protein, whatever I can stand. Make sure to drink a lot of water and try switching up your protein shakes. My ensures were causing a lot of the constipation initially. Good luck. I really know the pain. It will get better eventually. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Anyone had issues after surgery with really hard poop? To the point it hurts to poop, like pooping razor blades and then my bottom bleeds afterwards. Bottom only bleeds after a painful bowl movement. 3 weeks post op. Any advice?
-
Hi there. I had a revision from sleeve to mini bypass about 6 weeks ago. In that time, I've had quite a bit of diarrhoea and loose stools. Sorry for the TMI. It's really gross to me, too. My poop is green and smells UNHOLY. Is this going to last forever? I traveled to the Uk over the weekend and I was concerned about toilet access. Can anyone advise? Thank you.

Hi everyone, sorry about the TMI but just had a Q about constipation after surgery. Can one use castor oil as a laxative in place of store brands if their are issues going on a regular after surgery.

Pre op stuff and what did you feel like when you woke up from your bypass surgery?
fourmonthspreop replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks! Totally understand if it's TMI but it is lower GI or upper GI gas or both? Do you have to go to the bathroom a lot after in the hospital? Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hi guys, abit TMI but I’m currently 9 days into my pre op LRD and I’ve noticed my bowel movements are not as regular as I’ve known them to be previously. I can now go 2 days without passing. Is this expected due to the little amount of calories ? Has anyone else had or have the same issue ? Thankyou!

Vaginal discharge 2 weeks after vertical Sleeve surgery
Queen22 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
TMI but for the last month or so; I have been having a yellow discharge; it doesn't smell fishy. My VSG surgery was on 11/29/2021. This discharge is coming down excessively feels like day 2 of my menstrual cycle. I have to wear a normal pad. I had covid so I was not able to see my gynecologist until now. My appointment is tomorrow. I'm worried about what's causing the vaginal discharge. Has this happened to anyone else? -
Awful diarrhoea 2 days post gastric bypass
RouxEnGravy replied to Doodle41's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Surgery was 1/5. Liquid waterfalls started 1/8, I think. Still happening as of this evening. TMI but have gone 8 times today. Taking an Imodium in the morning because this simply can't continue. Haven't asked my Dr yet. -
Hi everyone👋🏻 6weeks post op now and started my second period since the surgery yesterday(sorry if tmi!!). Im just so thankful my period has returned after years of issues with it and PCOS! But since it started i have massive chocolate cravings!! Theres a sugar free chocolate that someone recommended for me and i tried one little square of it and it agreed with me so well im close to binging on the rest of it🥴 Just let it melt in my mouth. But obviously i dont want that happening! The chocolate cravings have literally only come on as my period started😭 Any tips or advice to manage these cravings?

Hi, food anyone NOT have a pre-op diet? My surgery is 1.18, RNY. pre-op is 1.12, but I have no pre-op diet. I'm ok with that, but I'm also thinking about the TMI stuff. Getting constipated from food, maybe cleansing my system? I stopped coffee and caffeine, but I'm just wondering who didn't have a pre-op diet, and if you did try to do something? I was thinking shakes, high protein and start cutting carbs, only to make it easier on myself? Thoughts? Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
chiquitatummy replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Lol, this is one of my fav NSVs too. I'll take the TMI a little further even (because if we can't do this here then where else?) and share that I can't get over being able to see between my thighs when I sit down, that there is "space" and a visible kitty cat. lol!! -
Anyone else having VSG end of Nov 2021?
summerseeker replied to Elaine77's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My surgery is 24th Nov. I have done 2 of 3 weeks of the pre op diet. I am in the UK and we seem to have docs with different diets here. I am allowed Milk, veg, yogurt and fruit. It works out at about 1000 to 1200 cals a day. I am sick and tired of the veg prep and the boring menu. Its cold here so I want warm food. My poor husband hates my farts TMI. I can look at my doctors photograph and call him an absolute b*****d and a torturer and please would he end this and move my surgery forward to this afternoon Anyone on a more restricted diet has my complete sympathy, -
I feel really defeated and upset. Sorry this is gonna be a negative post but I dont know what to do anymore. I had my surgery (vsg) September 28th (in another post I mixed up September and October) and recovered very well, very fast. Hardly any gas pain, no incisional pain and so far no vomiting. As thankful as I am about all that that pretty much sums up all the good things there are. First of I’m hungry ALL THE TIME!! In fact my cravings have never been this bad. I think about food 24/7!! Then the moment I smell food or prepare food my hunger vanishes and gets replaced by feeling incredibly nauseous. I can only eat something once then it grosses me out. Because of this I avoid eating and - as stupid as it sounds I’m well aware of that - I get scared to eat because I dont want to be miserable. I can tolerate everything fine but the smell is just awful! Speaking of awful I have the worst and most disgusting bad breath of my life!! No matter how much I brush my teeth and floss my mouth my family can smell me from down the hall. I feel so gross! If only I was loosing weight I’d accept it all but the kicker is I’m not losing any!! The first two weeks I lost 25lbs. Week 3 and four I lost 3lbs and since then (two weeks!!) I’ve been stalling. I’m so frustrated!! What makes matters the absolute worst (sorry this is tmi) I can’t 💩!!!! I havent gone in 15 days!! I’m seeing a nutritionist, who has prescribed me stool softener but nothing happened. I’ll probably have to go back to the hospital over the weekend to get a stronger laxative (talked to the surgeon on the phone today). I didnt expect to have regular bowl movement as before but feeling constipated for two weeks is really no fun. I’m telling myself at least once that’s out maybe my weight will finally drop? Some more context: My surgeon’s plan calls for regular food after day 4. I didnt follow that guideline because it scared me and ate soft foods till aprox. week 5 focusing on my protein intake. I weigh my food though I feel like I can eat a lot. So far I consume around 300-400kcal a day. I had to eat out once for work where I had bread with cheese. Other than that I’m very diligent with my diet. My water intake could be better but I’m constantly sipping on water and cant get more down than 1 maybe 1 1/2L a day. I feel like I’m being punished because I lost (and gained back) 100lbs three times before with very restrictive diets and my body is so used to “being starved” so it’s not playing along. I keep reminding myself my main goal isnt weight loss (though I need and want to) but to stop yoyo dieting in such excess. It’s hardly comforting though because I’m really really frustrated. I’m sorry to be so negative! And I’m sorry I wrote so much but I need to get it off my chest. Have any of y’all had a similar hard beginning? Does it really get better? At this point I can’t imagine it

Since I've had my RNY, my bathroom excursions smell like lingering death. I have to use 'poop-porri' or whatever it is called, plus a spray. I dread going at work....thankfully I'm pretty regular and don't need to worry about it too often. I have always assumed it was because of the protein powder (I still use 15grams in my oatmeal every morning)..and the smells are somewhat similar sorry TMI. I hadn't seen a lot of posts regarding this, just a lot of posts about constipation or diarrhea...so I thought it was somewhat normal but it wasn't a hot topic lol. Now I'm wondering if there is something wrong with us :S

How many of you had diarrhea post bypass? How long did it last?
EmKat posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Warning: TMI. Hi all. I had my gastric bypass on 10/6 so I am 16 days post op. I am having diarrhea to the point of incontinence and have resorted to wearing a pad to prevent any accidents. I’m so mortified. My diet has advanced to soft foods like scrambled eggs, yogurts cottage cheeses, etc. My surgeon is very liberal on advancing the post op diet. I don’t have dumping because it happens at random times. This is completely new for me. Before the surgery I had just the opposite issue and dealt with constipation occasionally. Just wondering if anyone else had a similar problem. Thanks in advance. -
Any October 2021 Surgeries?
Kaguragetshealthy_87 replied to devotion's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Ok did the preop testing today...and I promise I was so ignorant! So had a oxygen test with blood from my wrist which is the worst place I ever gave blood. Then I had an ultrasound and some x-rays and drank some terrible fizzy stuff and had to roll all over the bed to take pictures. Ugh at least the girls were really cool about it and didn't make me feel uncomfortable. (TMI: It came out and I was fasting) After all that went to preop and did an EKG and was cleared for surgery and then hit with the bill $5000 something. So now I'm grasping at straws to get at least half paid so I can have this surgery done. I faith in the Lord and this is something I want to get done so bad and I've already kicked out at least $1000 for surgeon fees. This is covered by insurance but just wasn't expecting the hospital portion to be so much. Oh well. Just wanted to give some insight because I really was ignorant. -
Dumping for 4 days straight? Need advice.
HajEddie posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 1 week today post sleeve and hernia repair. Everything was great until Sunday. I had a few sips of a chocolate protein shake and OMG the stomach noise could be heard 3,000 miles away!! And 10 mins later running to the bathroom. So ok I had a dumping episode no biggie. But it has been going on for 4 days! I have literally had 2 jello cups since Sunday and a lot of water and propel. I know TMI but this is so bad I have to sit in the tub for 15 min to be able to walk. My below parts are raw, bleeding, and very angry. I have ruined sheets, bath mats, and 8 pairs of undies. Today I’m loosing my mental ability. I called my doctor and they totally blew me off and said sleeve doesn’t get dumping and you probably have a stomach bug. Ok but could you maybe see me? Nope. I have an appointment at urgent care today but they will probably be like woah this is beyond us! Any suggestions please. Thanks!!!! -
Revision surgery 9/8/2021
scollins707 replied to scollins707's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Today is five weeks exactly, and I am down 21 lbs. Last week was weird; for some reason, I gained a few lbs, and then within six days, I started dropping an lb a day. My dietician would like me to stay between 80-100g of carbs, which I was reluctant about reading other revision experiences, but I am happy to say that I am still losing at 80g daily. I can eat many things without issue, but only if I eat them in small portions. Pooping is weird... It smells, often loose, and I have had some oily moments (TMI), but it is definitely diet-related. I have noticed that I have gas early in the morning and have to poop first thing, so that is something to keep in mind if you are considering revising to SADI. -
Today, I am officially one week and a day post-op. The first 2-3 days by far were the worse and even caused me to have “buyer’s remorse”. But for anyone thinking about surgery, do it! It gets a little easier each day. You do have to learn to be patient with how your body initially reacts to anything you ingest. Is the diet post-op boring? Absa-freaking-lutely! But I can definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel. Thus far, I have lost 15 lbs, I am astonished. Those 15 lbs have allowed me to drop a size to a 16. I haven’t been able to get down to that size since 5 years ago, before I had my first child. Everyone has those shorts or clothes that you hang on to because you are determined to fit back into them. This week my NSVs were fitting into two pairs of shorts I have been hanging onto. I am so happy! Another NSV (TMI topic) is that I am fully back to being “regular” on my BMs, makes me feel a little more normal since it took about 4 days after surgery to have one.

September Surgery Buddies!!
lavila7046 replied to happilylacey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you for that insight, my surgery date was 09.27, however maintaining the liquids are very hard as I always feel full after a few sips, I know I’m dehydrated as my urine had changed color ( sorry TMI ) however I’m just unsure is that normal to be dehydrated even though you can barely get any liquids down? And if I force it I feel bloated. -
Tmi sorry! Had a small bowel movement today and feel a little better. I will contact my team and see if they can help at all. Thanks for the reassurance, it's nice to know I'm not alone! Sent from my MAR-LX1A using BariatricPal mobile app
