What are some exercises I can do in bed
vikingbeast replied to FootballMom92's topic in Fitness & Exercise
As others have said, it's best to ask for help from a professional. Take heart—it IS possible, and you'll gain strength which will help with the weight, even if all you're doing is muscle stretches. Everyone has to start somewhere, and you made up your mind to do it—that's the hardest part. -
Try to cut your calories down just a touch and get out and walk every day atleast for a half hour, even if it is in 15 minute pieces at a time. It sound almost impossible to take in that few calories and not lose more weight. Are you closely counting?

Gastric Sleeve to ESG Overstitch?
BabyNewYear replied to NapaGirl's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Interested in this as a possible revision option. I had my VSG in January 2016 and have had a regain of 20 pounds but never actually reached my goal weight. Wondering about the insurance coverage though. Don't want to pay out of pocket if at all possible. Sounds like recovery is much like VSG just without the abdominal incision. Going to get in touch with my surgeon and see if its a possibility for me. -
Morning, new here to the app I like being able to read everyone’s stories. I am going for gastric sleeve October 5 at Alabama weight loss by Dr. Schmitt - anyone else have their procedure there?

There are many, many plans about with different recommendations & expectations. The best advice is stick to your plan unless it’s not working then develop a new plan with your medical team. We have different needs. Our bodies absorb, processes & burns nutrients/calories differently so one plan does not fit all. Discovering what works for you is important not just while losing but also into the future when maintaining. I wasn’t given a calorie goal just protein (60g) & portion size recommendations (1/4 - 1/3 cup slowly increasing as I was able). I was advised low carb but not given any amount to meet or stay below. I did occasional calories checks out of my own curiosity. By goal I was eating just under a cup & less than 900 calories a day but now (28 months) I eat just under recommended serving size of most foods. I maintain my weight eating about 1200/1300 calories. I don’t exercise. I was encouraged to add snacks a couple of months out & still snack (nutrient dense foods) about 4 times a day to get my protein & essential nutrients in. I remember at my first appointment with my surgeon, he drew a picture of a plate & marked a section as protein & another as vegetables & said that’s how much you’ll be eating in maintenance. It stuck with me & he was right. Scales & measuring cups are vital tools during the weight loss stage. It’s so easy to under or over estimate portions when just eyeballing as you seemed to have discovered. Don’t worry we’ve all been caught by this at some time. I don’t weigh or measure frequently anymore - just random checks & when I introduce something new to my diet. And I study the nutrition panels very carefully of any food stuff I buy pre prepared though I generally make a lot of what I eat from scratch. Hopefully your nutritionalist will be of help. Ask that she sit down with you & go through a week or two of what you’re eating. Ask what is missing from your diet, what you could reduce or drop from your diet, what you need to add & alternative foods you could include. Make sure she understands your lifestyle as well not like the one who gave my pescatarians a diet full of meat as the protein source! Good luck.

Had to clear out my closet a bit again - 17 summer dresses, skirts, trousers, etc. and yes predominately black I know. 😉 Most I bought 12-18 months ago when I’d thought my weight had settled - ha! They’re all 1-2 sizes too large - waaaah! I’m keeping all but 3 trousers because they’re excellent quality or pretty timeless (3 dresses are from my archive collection bought around 2006/7 & I’d wear them today if they fit).

Any April 2021 surgeries?!
ahayden78 replied to KidaandRoux's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was taking them as well but stopped. I am so bad about taking stuff. Im taking the gummies for hair and also the multi vitamin by them. I find it much easier to take gummies instead of the chews. My weight loss is slow I’m down around 60lbs. Seems like I have stalls but I still lose inches. I’m ok with it coming off slowly. I’m worried about loose skin. So far so good. -
VSG 1st month
brenda.vandruff@yahoo.com replied to Katherine Velasquez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had lost 36 lbs at my 6-week checkup. Another woman who had her sleeve done the same day had also lost 36 at 6 weeks. That may be a guideline for you. Liquid and soft foods, concentrate on protein, drinking before and after by 30 min, remembering your stomach can only handle up to 2/4 cup, throwing up, that all makes the weight go. Likewise, why would you ever ruin a perfectly good oatmeal raisin cookie with chocolate chips? Oatmeal raisin cookies are my favorite, but I also like chocolate chip cookies. However, I prefer each in its native form. Edit: For the record, I'm still in the weight loss phase. The closest I get to cookies is the occasional Bel Vita wafer. -
Hi. I’m about 5 months out. I’ve lost 53 pounds. I’m kinda short so the weight looks like a huge difference on my body type. I have weeks that stall and don’t see any weight loss. So far I have been able to eat just about everything ( in small amounts) with no reactions. I do wish I was loosing weight at a faster pace but Slow progress is still progress.

I'm so interested in what folks have to say about this. I too had the sleeve and my Gerd disappeared but now 3 yrs later and almost all my weight gained back in the past year due to personal loss that caused depression my Gerd is back worse then ever before. So I've been thinking about revision surgery. -
Any April 2021 surgeries?!
Brianna97 replied to KidaandRoux's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I turned 5 months post op September 14th. I lost 81 pounds so far and 3 pounds away from my goal weight but wouldn't mind losing more or maintaining my weight. No regrets from surgery I do suffer from minor complications like with occasional severe heartburn. Also the foamies from slightly overeating or drinking too quickly after lunch which leaves me with severe nausea and my mouth salvating for hours until my food digest. But overall im very happy I had the surgery -
Any April 2021 surgeries?!
Luna Girl replied to KidaandRoux's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I count myself as one of the lucky ones too. No major issues, a few minor ones...occasionally heartburn - which goes away within minutes when I take medicine, early on, I did get sick a few times, but haven't done that since early weeks of solid food. Still cannot eat scrambled eggs, but can tolerate chicken now. I have had some hair loss, but my hair was so thick before, that seems like a blessing...as long as it stops in the next couple of months. I still wear the vitamin patch because the large pills are hard to swallow and upset my stomach. But that was the case before surgery, so not sure that will ever change. Most days, I am not hungry. Have to make myself eat for fuel but that has been liberating. The whole idea that food is fuel and not mindless consumption. My better half has been very supportive and has even came along for the ride of clean eating...and lost 25lbs himself. He's tall and honestly did not need to lose weight, but he says he feels better. I have 15lbs to goal, but honestly, if I didn't lose another pound, I would be happy. I truly wish everyone the best outcome and life long health and happiness! Exudos194, how are you doing?? 😊 -
VSG 1st month
Amy Braun replied to Katherine Velasquez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also discouraged about my lack of weight loss. I'm 64, so I'm wondering if age has something to do with it. That and total irregularity (no movement at all, in spite of multiple laxatives being taken!) My surgery was September 1. Before the surgery, I had lost 15 lbs. The first 10 days after the surgery I lost 10 lbs, but not a pound since (11 days). I am increasing my activity and up to walking /or stationary biking 40 minutes a day. I hit all my protein grams and water goals, and consume between 400-600 calories. I know people say this will get better, but I'm afraid my age and digestive woes are working against me. Any older people have trouble making this work? I'm not going to give up, but I started at 288 and should be seeing more progress. -

Wow! Congratulations on achieving your weight loss goals! I can't believe you did it in a year. I'm so happy for you! -
I had the sleeve done and weight was 345 at day of and now I'm down to 233 but I agree with you if had to do it again I wouldn't. Even now it's still a roller coaster. Some on and off days.

Hey everyone! I'm sure there are many posts on here for revision but I'm in need of some help. I'm 7 years out of VSG surgery and am embarrassed to say I've gained everything back. The only excuse I have is life got in the way. I've been in touch with my surgeon and have been discussing revision surgery. My issue is, I do not have the same insurance (Aetna) now that I did when I had my original surgery. I'm having a hard time finding an insurance that will cover a revision. My current employers' plan does not even remotely cover anything bariatric wise so I'm hoping you fine people can give me some info of where I can turn. I thought I found a decent multiplan but I've since been told they do not cover bariatric surgery either. Thank you all for your time.

From what I have read on this forum, this is def not the norm. As a sleeve patient myself (3 years post op) I average 1800-2000 calories a day, and have been maintaining my current weight for over 2 years (and I'm 5'2", 115 lbs) Everyone will have different maintenance calories depending on a whole slew of factors. Each person needs to figure out what that is for their own individual set of circumstances.

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?
nubianqueen0402 replied to phenomenally_me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Tiffany, I am about 4 weeks out. I had a hernia repair as well. My weight loss has stalled as well. I have noticed that it usually takes about 2 days then it goes down about 1 pound. Warm water is good for constipation. It works almost right away. I have been having a hard time finding things to eat. I can’t stand the smell and taste of the protein shakes or anything else. Been drinking zero Powerade. -
Who lost a lot before surgery?

I bet you didn’t lose as much as many of us on pre op because you had already lost the water weight from dieting. -
Post VSG Hair Loss
lizonaplane replied to Rey Rodriguez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had short hair at my highest weights. I am not a big fan of when women have long hair and put it up in a messy bun or sloppy pony tail and I don't like when my hair is in my face, and I think having short hair looks a lot better on a fatter face, so I've had short hair my whole adult life. Takes way less time to deal with. -
I was just told to “try to lose some weight” but it was pretty low key. Don’t stress about it. Stress makes it harder to lose. That said, I had to talk myself down multiple times, convinced I was doing the wrong thing. I’m pretty sure it’s the right thing now I’m on the other side, honestly.

Lost all of my 2020 regain in the past 2 months!
RoryJeanne replied to _Shane_'s topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
This is me right now! I've only gained a couple pounds but the bad habits forming I know I need to change! So your post has given me much reassurance!!! Thank you! -
I lost all hunger and all interest in food until about month 5 post-op. Not uncommon. And it was WONDERFUL! I wish my hunger and appetite had never come back! It was so liberating not to think about food - ever. And so easy to lose weight when I didn't give a flip about food! Savor it and take full advantage of it. For most of it, it does eventually come back, and then things get a lot more challenging.
