If you are post surgery it could be your hormones going wacky on you. Mine did a bit and I just didn’t want to do anything for a couple of weeks but then it leveled out. How long Have you been seeing this therapist? Do you like them? Sometimes it is good to be reminded that we have good stuff going on in our lives too but I hope that is not really all your therapist is offering you in terms of help. Are you upset about something specific or just feeling down? If you are having a hard time with the loss of food like lizonaplane mentioned, the bariatric therapist may be better equipped to help you through that. If you do not feel that your therapist is helping you then try someone else. I went through several until I found the right fit.

I agree. I was sleeved March 9 and also started with a low BMI. I am 9 pounds from goal (and top of “normal” bmi) and seem to be almost stalled there. I am going to try adding exercise before reducing calories any further but I am eating a lot more than you at 1000-1200 most days.

I had a loop duodenal switch (SADI) and took off 5 weeks as the surgeon recommended. I was really bad off and in/out of the ER the first two weeks. Later I’ve been dealing with other things like gallbladder pain, trouble swallowing… let’s just say I was so thankful I took the time off. I would have been in pain trying to sit in the office all day and needed a lot of time to push fluids and food. Hell it’s still hard 7 weeks out to work and take proper care of myself. Y’all who took off just a few days amaze me.

Sorry to hear about the stomach aches and headaches. I discovered this past week stevia gives me headaches. I’m surprised I’m not as hungry anymore. I think after day 3. My stomach is like too much liquid when it comes time for water. I hope you feel better soon.

Is this normal? I got a period (a pretty heavy one) about a week after my surgery in September and since then, nothing. I'm 39, I'm not on any kind of hormonal birth control (and not sexually active so I'm NOT pregnant). I've never been formally diagnosed with PCOS but it's been suspected. My mother went through menopause really young (early 40s). I don't have any children. For the first few months following my surgery, between some new food sensitivities and just general adjustment, I had problems getting enough food in my system (I was running on maybe 200 calories a day because it was all I could comfortably ingest). I wonder if that has something to do with it but now that issue has been largely resolved and I'm up toward 600 a day and hitting my protein goals most of the time (and able to get all my vitamins down too!) so I thought this would have been resolved by now but nope! I wouldn't be heartbroken if I found out I was going through menopause already, but I just wanted to ask the brain trust if anyone else had this experience or not?

Lack of WLS buddies?
lizonaplane replied to Dlited's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There is a zoom group with MyLevel10Life. They are just switching from Facebook to some other platform for the group itself, but I find it really helpful! It meets twice a week. -

Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?

Anyone who may have seen my previous posts would have heard that I had a really rough time for the first few weeks after surgery. A lot of pain and bruises from the incisions, a lot of difficulty with any kind of food (be it liquid, pure or softs) and various mental problems that come from such a monumental change in your life (no more using food as a comfort from life anymore!). Im now 4 weeks post-op, and happy to report that things have improved significantly. Im doing much better on pretty much every front and as a nice bonus, im down 17kg (37.5 pounds) since surgery day. Sending loads of love and positivity to everyone on here, especially those who may be struggling. Things DO get better. 😀 -
Do not eat only 680 calories a day. That is not healthy once you are that far out. I'm not sure what calculator told you that, but it's not realistic. Did you set it to lose a lot of weight every week? Talk to your nutritionist. It is harder to lose weight as you get thinner, but 3-5lbs a month is a LOT when you are ten months out and very close to a healthy BMI (I am your height and 141 is the top of "normal" BMI.). What you do needs to be sustainable; drinking tea instead of meals is NOT sustainable, and not healthy. I'm 4 months out and I am eating about 850-100 calories a day, which is within the normal range for 4 months out, per my nutritionist.

Oh god I miss guzzling water!! I have a fibre supplement I got from my pharmacy it’s called ‘ Ispaghula Husk’ it’s an orange powder in individual sachets and I have one a day mixed with water. It’s helped ease the constipation! However I’m still only going once a week. I try to have weetabix a few times a week for breakfast - I can only manage 1 though. they say to eat more fibrous veg! But when you try and get the protein from meat it doesn’t leave much room for veg! Constant battle lol 😂 drinking and eating is a strange one… I do try and avoid it. Sometimes I do sip water but it can bring on some pain so try to avoid it as much as I can. But yes agree.. it’s hard to eat and not drink at the same time!

Had surgery on 12/22. in 17 days, I lost 25.3 pounds. Now I have gained 1.4 pounds after a few days' stall. I sort of stopped tracking my food as I should have been, so am going back to that today. Pushing water and protein. Supposed to be eating 5 small meals a day and drinking one protein shake right now. Mostly able to do that...but I don't always feel hungry so I have to push myself. No issues with getting the protein numbers in. Been pushing fluids like crazy the last few days.

OMG, I ended up with Covid in my second week, I know how you feel about being set back. My incisions and stomach started hurting again when I had covid and still aren't great now. I don't end isolation for another few days. -
Sure. You are only about 3 weeks post op? So still really getting used to it all.. I would say with time your tolerance for sweeter things may return. I was always a savoury person! You would be guaranteed to find me at the sandwich’s and sausage rolls at a buffet!! so I don’t miss it as much as others maybe do. Have you looked at savoury protein shakes? Using plain protein powder? Like mixing in with soups? (Perhaps that’s what your already doing) protein is always a worry: even now I have to make sure my meals are protein rich.. because I still eat such a small amount. I struggle with fibre, that’s my downfall. Which has caused some very painful incidents with toilet habits!! So now I also have a fibre powered drink once a day. At first it seems overwhelming, but it becomes a way of life. 🙂 babybels, chicken fridge bites, protein yoghurts.. that’s how I managed. To be honest sometimes even now I don’t reach protein goals as I should. just keep trying best you can.. your stomach will feel much better as time goes on and you will be able to manage much more. i went from drinking 2-3 litres of water a day pre op! And now I can barely manage 1litre Across 12 hours! But it’s getting easier. 🙂

Heart valve issues anyone?
OutdoorsGirl replied to liveaboard15's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have AFIB and was able to have surgery. After the surgery, my heart rate was really high and my regular medications weren’t working. I ended up in the hospital an extra week until they were able to get the rate under control with more medications. The cardiologist will sign off on the surgery if it will benefit your condition. Weight reduction should also make heart procedures safer if you need to have them in the future. I’m seeing a heart specialist next month and expect that I’ll need to have a procedure to get my heart rhythm back to normal. Hopefully January will be a good month for weight loss. Good luck to you. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
OutdoorsGirl replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I hit 2 months from surgery yesterday. In the first month I lost 12.5 lbs. and in the second, 4.5 lbs. I stalled in December and only lost 2 for the month. Nothing I eat bothers me as long as I watch the portion size, chew a lot, and eat slow. I do get hungry between meals and eating slow is kind of hard for me. The sleeve definitely helps to reduce portion sizes, but I have to be diligent since I can comfortably eat anything. I hope everyone is having success. -
I took my pain pills about 2 weeks after my sleeve. I tolerate them very well.

Hi everyone I am in Aus and just came across this page. I am sorry to hear peoples operations are getting cancelled. Mine was booked Jan 6th and while I was in admissions they were saying as of the 7th elective surgeries were getting postponed so I was so lucky. I had the gastric bypass and It’s now the 11th here so almost a week later and I’m only just starting to feel more awake and mobile now. For the first few days I was knocked out with all the medications I think. I hope everyone is doing well in their recoveries. And for anyone on their shake diet - you can do this, I lost 11kg on mine!

8oz of soup 1 week post op?
DaisyAndSunshine replied to BumblePhee's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
1 week post-Op, recommended serving of fluid for me was 125mls to 250mls (8 Oz). So I don't think you should worry much. I think I was able to do 8 ounces too on certain occasions. And I think it's because fluids pass right through the pounch. Food on the other hand post 4 week post-Op, I can more or less tolerate about 4 to 6 ounces depending on what I eat (4 week post-Op and beyond). Solids will kick your restriction at a smaller amount while semi-solid to fluid consistency, you can tolerate a bit more. -
March 2022 Surgery Buddies
doobie31 replied to LilaNicole20's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Got a March 17th date a couple of weeks ago. Very excited and nervous. And very hopefully it doesn't get postponed for one reason or another. That would be so disheartening at this point. -
I had my gastric bypass surgery on January 4th and I’ve just transitioned to full liquids. I’m sitting here sipping my soup, and my NUT said that I would only be able to handle 4oz or so of any food, but I’m not feeling full at all. I’m super worried about like, popping my staples or something! EDIT: I made myself stop just because I was concerned, but what is normal?

1 Year Post OP and I think I am alcoholic
Prestonandme replied to Coexister's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had battled alcohol problems long before WLS also due to PTSD and physical ailments. After WLS I gave up alcohol for a year and a half, but due to a series of crises this year, I began to "drink-medicate" again -- just to escape the terrible feelings of stress, anxiety, fear, and sadness. "It's only a couple of glasses," I'd reason wrongly. But I had two binge drinking episodes after sudden crises that finally provoked me to give up alcohol altogether. The first caused me to end up in urgent care, with elevated liver enzymes. The second caused me to fall and get a gash across my forehead. Because I am an atheist, I wouldn't consider AA. But I was directed to an amazing book called "Alcohol Explained: Understand Why You Drink and How to Stop" by William Porter. All I can say is it is absolutely incredible and since I finished the book, I haven't touched alcohol and don't intend to again. Porter explains what really happens when we drink: the wonderful calming and relief from worries... followed hours later by an increase in anxiety, depression, and hangovers as our brains readjust to the alcohol (which is a toxin). So the vicious cycle begins -- drink to stop the bad feelings... the bad feelings get worse after the drink effects go away... requiring us to drink again... etc. And there's so much more to it, too. Porter does not believe that alcoholism is a disease (the AA model does) but it is a behavior that can be changed through learning, reframing, and changing behaviors. I can't recommend this book enough. Lastly, something I should have been thinking about all this time... Before WLS, my surgeon told me he had only had one patient die after the surgery. The man binge-drank a few times over a three month period and succumbed from alcohol poisoning. His new body couldn't handle the volume of alcohol he used to drink prior to the surgery. We never think such a thing could happen to us but... now I know. -
Am I really gonna lose weight?
vikingbeast replied to Myrandalynn06's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
@MelanatedQueen It's totally the three-week stall. Your body is rebalancing its fluid levels and stuff. While there's some variation (hello, hormones...), generally the rule is CICO (calories in calories out). If you're eating 500 cal a day, there is no way you're not going to lose weight. Even if you're very petite, your body requires a certain number of calories just to exist, and 500 is below that number. If you get through another three weeks without moving, talk to your surgeon, but nearly everyone breaks that stall in a week or two. -
Reverse gastric bypass
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Jennifer ortiz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't thi!k you should get discouraged just yet. Like others mentioned speak to your medical team about the concerns you're having. I didn't have much side effects of the surgery but 1st month was definitely difficult in terms of energy. I didn't even have energy to walk few mins on a treadmill which has gotten so much better now 6 weeks post-Op. Now I can easily do 30 to 35 mins. Even now though, there are some days which are easily fatigued than others. I am sure as time passes, it'll go away too. Plus as you progress, you should be able to tolerate various foods. I have tried other foods, and I haven't gotten dumping yet. So I am sure down the line, we should be able to enjoy our favorites, ofc in limit. As for gross tasting protein, try other brands. And even if those don't work, try to get protein from wholesome foods. On my program, we aren't allowed protein powders or any processed protein. We are told to consume protein from food. I am also vegetarian, so my options are mostly dairy products. And I still make my goal of 70 to 80 grams of protein. So protein powders aren't the only means. Try Greek yogurt or even better *ice landing yogurt*. Both easily available at grocery stores. Ice landing yogurt has 15 grams of protein on 0.5 cup. I can have about 1 cup a day (split) and easy 30 grams in. Then therea are various cheeses, cottage cheese, milk, lentils, beans etc. So many options out there for protein alternative. Good Luck with your journey. -
they usually don't do reversals unless you're having serious medical issues that can't be resolved any other way. talk to your surgeon. They may be able to suggest or prescribe things that help. Plus like others have said, you're still very early out. A lot of this will clear up in the near future. The first few weeks can be tough, but then it gets a lot easier. I honestly don't notice a difference anymore - other than my stomach doesn't hold nearly as much food as it used to.
